Slate Bistro and Bar is located inside of Trilogy Golf Club at Power Ranch. It is, despite the guard gate, open to the public. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have eaten all three meals there and they do them all well. In fact, Slate has been nominated for the Best Breakfast in Gilbert 2014. The prices are some of the best I have seen for both food and drinks. There is a full bar as well. Slate has a very nice ambiance and feels as though you are in a nice restaurant without the stuffy air. It is a great place to grab a meal after a round, get a few drinks for affordable prices or have a long meal. The menu has a little bit of everything to hit all tastes and they do offer specials on certain nights. There is even live music on certain nights, usually Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Make sure to call ahead on weekends as they do sometimes close for weddings. They also do offer reservations and while in snowbird season helps. Slate is a really good, consistent non-chain restaurant in an area lacking restaurants. Definitely a good find. read more

WOW...a hidden gem. At least it was to me, but no more! Slate is located within the Trilogy Golf Club and is open to the public. We gave it a try based on the advise of some friends and were not disappointed. We had a small group, 3 couples and we were in the mood for something new. The service was AWESOME, the place was clean and the price was great. While you can wear casual clothes, you felt like you were at a nicer, non chain, type restaurant... I ordered the angus tri tip which came with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables. I believe the price for this meal was around $15. My husband had the friday night special which was prime rib, potato and vegetables..$20. The food was DELICIOUS and it was served just quick enough! We all split some appetizers pre dinner-mozzarella sticks, Spring rolls, Buschetta and Calamari and again, all was really good! Here is some more good news....Happy hour is everyday, all day! WOOT WOOT. I believe all the drinks: beer, wine and mixed are around $2.75- $3.50!!! Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning for the first time there and can away very satisfied. Sat outside to enjoy the Mountain View and golf course but there were only a couple of tables that were completely out of the sun but we didn't mind. We stopped in because we are looking for a place to retire and this community was on our list so we figured we would eat lunch while there. The server was great, we both had the french dip which was excellent, drinks were great, we'll be back if we move to this area! There was a lot of construction going on in Sept. '18 but they have shuttle golf carts that take you to the restaurant, otherwise, a bit of a trek to get there. Very disappointed - the food itself was good. The service... horrible. We are very flexible and understand slow service but what we got tonight was no service at all. Folks at our table and the table near us were begging for water refills ... if you needed anything you had to walk up to the bar to get it because there was no server in sight. Had to even ask the bartender to print us a check so we could pay because the servers never came back out. We arrived at about 6:50 and were told there was an hour wait. We were seated by 7:50 as anticipated and by 8:30 the entire restaurant had been cleared out except for three tables. Some of the food was spicy for the kids, but getting even a single refill was impossible. Staff were so busy trying to clean up for the night (despite the closing time being listed as 9PM) that we were treated far more as an inconvenience to their Saturday night plans than actual customers. Simple gestures like offering water or drink refills would have gone a long way. Heck, mere presence so that we could even ask for assistance would have even been appreciated. read more

I had dinner because they advertised the "Best Prime Rib in East Valley". It's pretty good and the two side dishes were also delicious. The wine list is short but adequate. The only drawback was I was sorted at the bar. The person at the front desk said that all the tables were reserved. Every time I eat at Slate, I leave disappointed. I had the chance to eat there over the Easter weekend. They had Easter Specials if you liked what they had to offer. The waitress was friendly, but you never saw her. I drank my water, then I slowly drank my wife's water and she never came to refill our glasses. My salad was a mess of lettuce white hearts and chunks of cores, about six leaves of green lettuce. You can get a salad at "Salad and Go" for 1/3 the price, it will have more goodies, be twice as big and it will actually taste good. I have yet to find a meal I would order again. This is my third time here. Food is always amazing! Service tonight was the worst we've ever experienced. We were greeted by the hostess, who didn't say anything expect "we're booked for the night unless you want to sit at the bar", which we decided to. Not even 5 mins later, another couple walked through the door, who she greeted and sat at a table right away. Confusing. We were lucky enough to have Andrew serve us at the bar. If you don't know who Andrew is, he's the bartender who just stares without greeting you, doesn't ever smile, takes your order in monotone, and is delayed on refilling your drinks. You're in the service industry. You work for tips. Be nicer to your paying customers. Three stars is because the Chicken Marsala is amazing. read more

Friendly staff even while the site of their location is under construction. We had the lobster Mac n cheese and the shrimp risotto. Both were generous portions, more so the Mac n cheese. My daughter loved the Mac n cheese and she actually had enough left overs that she snacked on it two more times. I would say there is enough for two meals for sure. The shrimp risotto wasn't bad. It had a flavor that was unique (can't pinpoint what it was), but it had full garlic cloves (I did bite into one and had to spit it out, maybe cut it into slices instead?) but the shrimp were good. No offense put I wouldn't order it again. The restaurant had live music which was a nice touch. My first time to Slate was 5/16...they had just reopened. We went for a late lunch to avoid a larger crowd. We were greeted immediately and friendly, and sat immediately in a shaded spot on the patio. We were brought waters and disposable menus right away. I wished I remembered the name of our waiter. He was great; very courteous and prompt. I believe he was covering the entire patio area. We ordered within 10 minutes of being seated and our drinks arrived shortly. Our food didn't take long at all. Out came our mushroom cheeseburger with so many onions ring (omg, yum!), they were hopping off the plate. The burger was cooked as we ordered and juicy. My friends & I started going to Slate Bistro for the live music which is available M-Th-Sat. The service has always been incredible; the bartenders & servers have come to know us & we're always treated like family. Although, we've had a few disappointments with the food, we can highly recommend the prime rib, fish & chips, shrimp cocktail, bruschetta, & burgers. One thing that I appreciate is that you can also order from the lunch menu at dinner time & there are half-sandwich, half-salad options if you aren't very hungry. We rented a home for a few months inside TRILOGY at POWER RANCH and I'd stop at SLATE on my way home. At least a couple of times per week, I'd stop either at the bar (in hot months) or on the patio now as it's cooling down. I give 4 stars because it IS KIND OF A SENIOR place (i'm no spring chicken but the menu is pretty standard) BUT it is a lovely place to relax and just enjoy. Everyone is friendly. The other patrons are warm and happy. It's a good feeling to stop here even during the dog-days of summer. I have to give a SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO the BEST SERVER - Mickey (MIchelle). She knows everyone and is so warm and kind and welcoming to all her guests. I always look for her when I go because I know she will take care of me. BUT generally everyone else is very nice here too. Tried this place using door dash. I ordered fish and chips which was twelve bucks. I got three thin little chunks of white fish and burnt fries. My wife ordered the quesadilla with steak and I have to say the fish and chips were a rip off. The quesadilla was okay but the fish was disgusting and the fries were burnt and soggy. Came to the restaurant with very high expectations due to the rating and reviews but once we order and receive our appetizer which were the wings and were good. The waitress was nowhere to be seen after she check up on us for our appetizer, so we didn't get any refills after that and our food was mediocre as we had no one to tell it about the burger being to dry or the pasta being very chewy. If I could give a zero, I would. I had reserved tables for a total of 21 people for a wedding rehearsal dinner. Bri, who is the event coordinator, has horrible customer service experience. To begin with I called several times and left messages for her and she would not call me back. I finally got a hold of her and made the reservation. After that when I had questions, I would text and she would answer with short answers like I was bothering her. A week before the dinner I called to make sure everything was set, then she says "Oh we can't have this reservation because you have too many people, we are only allowed 8". They wouldn't even break us up into groups of 8. Was she even going to call me and let me know? No, I called her and that is how I found out. First of all, don't be intimidated by the gate or the neighborhood entrance. Any and all are welcome to eat here, you don't need to be a golf member or a neighborhood resident. Technically I would name this a hidden gem since its tucked away at the golf course and off the main roads. I had a great experience for my first time. Bartender was very friendly and attentive and the rest of the staff seemed to be hustling and working hard to take care of everyone. Despite what you hear about labor shortages these days, these guys seemed to have their stuff figured out. I had the pleasure of having the Walnut Salad with chicken. It was DELICIOUS.
