This ones been good in the past, but tonight was disappointing. I got a 4 tender meal with cayenne ranch. Waited way longer than normal. The guy brought my bag out and said we had to leave as it was 10. OK fine. I get outside, open the box chicken is hot, and oily. Definitely overcooked. Thr fries were OK. I take a bite of the texas toast. It's like stale bread from the back of somebodies cupboard. Inedible does not describe it. They had to work extra hard to put something that bad in a meal. First time visiting a Slim Chickens. It was an easy walk from our hotel. The restaurant was quite busy when we arrived with people of all ages. The inside was pretty clean and covered patio seating is available too, which is appreciated. The atmosphere is laid back and the food was good, in comparison to other fried chicken quick serve restaurants we've enjoyed. The chicken is cooked to order so be prepared for a little wait, but it's worth it. Service wasn't the most welcoming, but was friendly. Overall a good visit. read more

Service was second to none. Ambiance was lacking in that the dining area was wide open and loud conversations were distracting. Food was very good. However, way too many French fries. We ordered from the children's menu. Would have preferred additional choice of two or more vegetables. The watered down mush we were served as gravy was close to disgusting both in texture and taste. Make some "real" gravy and you'll have customers coming from the locals in droves. No other fried chicken establishment has "real" gravy either. The chicken always comes out overcooked and if you're looking for something that's very flexible and rubbery, This is the place to go. Brought the family to try for the first time and we definitely enjoyed our meals. The fried chicken tenders were breaded nicely not too heavy. The waffle was fluffy and the fried pickles side was a good addition. Lots of drink options including some flavored teas. We finished off our meal with a birthday jar cheesecake dessert which though a little pricey is definitely tasty and comes in a nice glass jar. Staff were friendly and didn't mind explaining some of the menu items. TV and music made for a relaxing vibe. We will return for another great meal. read more

So my visit to this place was about a year ago, pre-Covid but i still remember it like it was yesterday because it was soo good. I had gone to work in Amarillo for the week and this place was pretty close to my hotel. Chicken and waffles...say no more! When I walked in it was very clean, I was attended to very quickly and they even offered a little side of their sauce so that I could try their sauce as well. The waffles and chicken were fresh and so delicious especially for being more of a fast food type restaurant. The Mac and cheese was fresh and good...def better than chic-fil-a's. The meal was good, service was great. There was even someone coming around to all the tables to see if we needed anything, if the meal was ok and if we needed any trash picked up. Was passing through Amarillo on way back to Houston. I was excited to see a location open as many have closed up in Houston. Stopped in around 9:45pm (doors to dining room were already locked even though it said open until 10pm). l ordered a Chicken and Waffles and a Salad. Didn't get Chicken and Waffles (got a 2 piece chicken finger with fries instead---which was terrible BTW), but we didn't know it until about 5 exits later so wasn't going back. Called store, asked for manager who initially wanted me to return to store. I explained we were already on other side of Amarillo at this point and I just wanted refund. He took down my information from receipt and claims to have reversed transaction. That was Sunday night...it's now Wednesday and no credit. This place just opened. I knew they were getting ready to but I thought it wouldn't be till April and here it is March 21st and I happened to drive past and saw they were ready to go. I decided to stop here instead of going to the other place I was headed for. I asked them how long they had been open and they said since Tuesday which would be 4 days ago. The place was pretty crowded. The service was excellent. I did not feel rushed when I ordered and there were employees circulating around picking up trash, taking away trays and asking people if they wanted drink refills the whole time I was there. I generally prefer chicken on the bone and I usually like dark meat best but this chicken was so tender and moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside that I didn't mind that it was white meat. I got the chicken and waffles because it just sounded good. The waffle was very good and I'm not a big waffle fan. It wasn't overly sweet even with the drizzle of syrup. It was shaped like the state of Texas! There were three generous pieces of chicken and a just-right scoop of butter. The meal came with a drink and I asked if orange juice was included. It was so I had a nice bottle of orange juice to go with my dinner of chicken and waffle. The meal was just under $9 with tax. They have a drive-thru if you're in a hurry which I rarely am. Really delicious! I didn't know that this place had even opened. Went here for dinner and it wasn't too busy. We were able to find seating in the little patio. It's a little noisy since the restaurant is adjacent to the freeway but it's nice to sit outside when the weather is nice. I ordered the meal with the 4 piece chicken strips. It comes with fries and a drink. I also tried the Mac and cheese. The chicken strips were great. They're not too extremely crispy and the breading is light. The fries were delicious and they even have ranch seasoning that you can put on them. For my drink I got a lemonade and it was great! The Mac and cheese was one of the best I've had from a fast food restaurant. You get to choose as many dipping sauces as you want for your chicken strips. I got the ranch, spicy bbq, and buffalo. Traveling through for the night and we were looking for a place called Twisted Tenders which we'd found online. We followed the GPS directions only to realize no such restaurant named Twisted Tenders still existed. We proceeded to drive through the parking lot and we came upon Slim Chickens. With a similar menu to what we'd originally been looking for, we decided to give it a try. We went in and we're met by a very nice gentlemen. It was his second day and he was very helpful. We ordered the family pack which was 12 tenders, 4 slices of toast, ranch chips, a side of our choice, 4 sauces, and a gallon of tea. We asked to get Mac & cheese as our side and swap out the ranch chips for regular fries. The gentlemen helping us said he needed to ask if we could do that. A young lady came up, presumably a Shift Lead, and told us no, that we could not swap out the chips. Okay, no problem. We'll just go ahead and get a side of fries in addition to the family pack. Then the young lady tells us that they are out of Mac & cheese. We asked if we could swap out the Mac & cheese for French fries and we are again told no. Upon asking for 4 cups to drink the tea, she looked at me as if I was asking for her to loan me money - utterly perplexed as to why we would want cups. I explained that we'll need something to pour the tea into so that we don't have to pass the jug around and she still seemed confused. I explained to her that we are just traveling through for the night and that cups would be necessary. That didn't seem to provide any clarity, so I finally offered to BUY cups. She let me do that and proceeded to charge me full price for sodas. I paid over $2.00 per cup, so we got our money's worth and got soda too. The real kicker, however, is that the meal was absolutely awful. The chicken tasted okay but the fries & toast tasted like they'd been sitting around for a while, the ranch chips weren't very tasty, the sauces were mediocre, & the tea (I ordered half & half which I have done NUMEROUS times in Texas) tasted like water with a very slight hint of tea. A very disappointing experience which set me back $35.58. Don't waste your time and go elsewhere. I would like to reiterate however that the gentleman at the cash register was very friendly and the only positive part of our experience. read more

I would highly dissuade anyone from ever stopping here unless you have an hour to kill and don't care whether you actually get your food or not. The employees were friendly but for an hour wait this is unacceptable. I watched multiple families become very angry. The manager even wandered around aimlessly without a care in the world.
