Happy 2021 my friends! Over the Christmas holidays while being at home in the Bay, I was really craving some vegan pizza. Since I normally cook at home now, it was a nice treat when I was able to pickup one of these amazing pizzas to go as a little "cheat meal" for myself from my usual diet. Sliver Pizzeria is really the best spot to get a creative and tasty vegan pizza in the Bay. I love this chain and being able to come try their pizza again through the lens of a plant-based lifestyle now. They have three locations around Berkeley and they offer a mad delicious vegetarian/vegan pizza. Each shop makes one kind of pizza a day and you can look online for their daily menu offerings. Ordering a vegan pizza ($22) means you must get a whole large size portion, which makes for leftovers later. For my pizza, it was a yukon potato, corn pizza with vegan cheese sprinkled on top. The cheese is optional and can be opted out for a less fattening pizza. But if you're gonna go out and enjoy a pizza, you might as well go all the way especially if you're mostly whole foods, plant based normally. I won't tell! I much prefer the vegan pizza over the vegetarian option. I love the crust here which seems like its made from rice flour - it's a lot chewier than traditional American pizza crusts and less thick. It's certainly not a bad thing though. Coupled with their house made Chimichurri sauce and you got a match made in heaven. Only thing I wish I could change about this location is the lack of parking and how small this shop is compared to their other locations. They're covid compliant but be sure to limit your time inside as it is a bit crowded. read more

Omg this pizza hit the spot!! The flavors were so good I can tell they put a lot of thought into their ingredients. We got the pizza of the day which consisted of potatoes, tomatoes, mozzarella, pecorino, spinach and garlic oil. My go to pizzas always have meat on it and although this one didn't it was surprisingly delicious. The green sauce was also pretty good, kind of reminded me of a zhoug sauce and paired well with the pizza. To top it off the service is great, restaurant is clean and the owner is very welcoming. I love sliver and my favorite go to pizza is potato with corn. Seriously it's addictive especially with their green sauce. Parking: cna be a nightmare in downtown, but not too terrible depending on when you arrive. Cost:~$30 for pizza and green sauce Customer service: it's pretty good and fast! I have been a longtime fan of Sliver but was very disappointed to find that they have stopped giving slivers out on orders that are not a single slice of pizza. That was the whole reason it was fun to come and eat here - it is literally in the name. read more

This was my first visit to any of the Sliver locations. Maybe my expectations were too high going in because of the very strong rating, but I was underwhelmed. I ordered the pizza of the day, and while it was somewhat tasty, it was nothing to write home about. The pizza wasn't cold, but it was not hot, either. Could this be because it had already come out of the oven before I ordered it? It makes sense, as Sliver certainly knows customers are going to order the pizza of the day, and it explains why I hardly had to wait for my pie to be ready. I figured it had at least been on low heat in the oven, but whether or not this was the case, it was no longer hot by the time I reached my destination 15 minutes later. I was also disappointed that the pizza toppings were so uneven: the pie had tons of potato, but hardly any spinach. I'm willing to believe this was just a fluke and not indicative of the norm at Sliver, but I'm not going to be in a rush to come back. Cheeseboard and Zachary's are considerably higher on my list of East Bay pizzerias. P.S. Definitely a solid spot for pizza in Berkeley that's well worth the money! I ordered 2 slices for around $6, and they also gave me 2 extra slivers so it was basically 2.5 slices that was enough for dinner. You can check the menu on the website for what they're serving each day, and choose to go on a day they have a pizza you like, which was what I did. The flavor of the pizza did not disappoint, and the crust was nice and crisp. Their signature sauce is also pretty fire! Tried their pizza of the day a couple months back and it was solid. I got the pizza of the day which was a milder pizza with white sauce and potatoes. Nothing too special and wasn't all too impressed especially after hearing all the hype about it. I will say that their green sauce is quite tasty and is very similar to a mint chutney and tasted fresh. They only gave me 1 tiny container at which point I requested a couple more and the employee who was working there was kinda rude. Just a sliver please! It's been years since I've been back to The Bay so if I've ever had Bay Area Pizza before, I've totally forgotten by now. But from what I've had at Sliver, I'll definitely be coming back for more. The pizza of the day was Corn, Chile Pasilla, Yellow Onions, Mozzarella, French Feta, Cilantro, Garlic Olive Oil, and Mexican Key Limes... basically a Mexican Corn Pizza, a combination that would seem out of place in most places, but not in NorCal! We were going on a progressive dinner tour of Berkeley and Oakland so instead of slices of pie we opted for slivers and the portion was a perfect bite, especially with the Pesto Sauce to drizzle over them! From what my friend told me, although some would rate Cheese Board, Arizmendi, and Diamond Slice over Sliver, they're all variations off the same type of pizza... which means I'll have to figure out a return trip to try them all! Size DOES count when it comes to a progressive dinner, so if you got 3-4 places to eat at in one evening, get a sliver at Sliver and save your waistline for the heavier foods! read more

Dude, this pizzeria is flames. Straight up FIRE. My bf and I love this place to fault. Cause of obesity: Sliver. I'm convinced that Sliver is the only exception to my severe aversion to pizza crusts. My friends know I eat pizza "backwards" (ie. crust-first) to avoid that tough, powdery bit after a particularly chunky slice, no matter which pizzeria we're at. I just hate ending a great slice of pizza with a mouthful of ashy... crust! Then my bf introduced me to Sliver, and that all went out the window. There's something about their crust that's like... Thin garlic bread? Great fluffy/crunchy ratio, and never any excess flour. I was converted instantaneously. Here, I could eat pizza like a normal human being. Groundbreaking. The Berkeley location sits along a busy walking street, among other businesses. Inside, ample seating & dim lighting, sometimes accompanied by live music. I'd recommend walking since parking is definitively impossible on Shattuck. Their gimmicks are: 1.) having only 1 (vegetarian) pie a day, and 2.) leaving 2 extra slices (ie. "slivers") in the box. This review is about Sliver's use of GrubHub as a delivery service. I placed a delivery order just after 6pm, and for the next 90 minutes the GrubHub app told me my order was delayed. I walked outside to check, and found my order had been left on the wall outside the front gate. Wow!! What amazing pizza! Every time I go, I am never disappointed with the pizza of the day. The crust is just amazing because it's so thin, and the pizza always has the freshest ingredients. However, I noticed that Sliver is suuuper skimpy with the green sauce. My entire family got food poisoning from here. None of us have slept or been able to hold down any foods or liquids in 18 hours. My brother is still writhing in pain. The food poisoning was so intense that my poor mother had to go to the Emergency Room. All right before thanksgiving too ... which I now doubt we will be able to attend nor enjoy after this. Looking now I can see a few other reviews stating that others have experienced the same thing ... I live right across the street from the Broadway Oakland location and love it. I like how you can affordably satisfy a solo quick snack with a slice and sliver or a full on meal here with friends over a half or whole pie. Bf and I were going to watch the documentary Game Changers (highly recommended) at the Berkeley United Artists theater and I needed some grub prior. Stopped in the downtown Berkeley location and saw the pizza of the day had corn, green Pasilla chilis, feta cheese, limes - 2 slices please! There was a line but it moved fairly quickly. My two slices with the signature sliver arrived and were hot, fresh and delicious. Of course I had to top it off with the addicting green and red sauces. They were gone before I can say sliver. Fantastic! It was my first time visiting the downtown location. I was starving after a late night class and decided to get a slice before I headed home. I only had a few minutes and they were still baking, told me i had to wait for few more minutes which I did not have as my ride was arriving. The guy who was working did his magic and gave me a piece right away. And it is delicious! I love their potato pizza and the pesto dipping sauce is just amazing. Although I cannot give it five stars because the website was not updated to reflect the current pizza of the day and because they do not answer the phone, the experience was otherwise smooth and seamless. There was no wait for a whole pie and the pizza was pretty yummy. The actual pizza of the day was better than what was advertised on the website, as we got tomatoes, feta cheese, garlic, and onions on it. I stopped by here for a quick bite and the pizza was amazing! This place serves only one kind of pizza everyday and they're always really unique. Living up to its name, they also give you a sliver of pizza with each slice you order. The crust is pretty thin and crispy, which I really like, and the toppings are wonderful. I had to grub before attending a show nearby and pizza is the quickest, easiest, and delicious option. Always. I walked in with determination, ready to indulge in two slices of cheese pizza. I placed my order and was caught off guard when they said the only slices are the pizza of the day or you can order a whole pizza if you want cheese. And there I stood, at a pizza joint, staring intently into the pizza guy's eyes, about to make the biggest decision that day. Huh...a pizza joint with no meat. I will tell you up front I am a solid believer of having meat on my pizzas. Not those meat lover pies but at least some sort of meat topping. A take off from Cheese Board, this typically vegetarian pizza offering is great for folks right downtown or passing by by foot or bike. Frankly speaking due to traffic and lack of parking this location is not conducive to take out. Unless you have two passengers 2 cell phones and a bit of patience. Unlike CB ,these zahs have to be ordered and a wait of several minutes before you pie is ready. That translates to 7 times driving around the block. No assembly line of pies coming hot and now. I highly recommend ordering ahead or having your nibble footed co-pilot dash in and text you the progress. We came on Presidents' Day about 4 pm so foot and vehicle traffic as well delivery trucks double parked was minimal. They have the requisite accessories, gringo sauce etc ability to order a slice quarter half and whole pies. The zah is good don't get me wrong. And because CB is closed on Monday's if you simply can't wait an extra day your obsession can be quelled. That is assuming you don't have to walk to far to your car and it gets cold. read more

I love love sliver just because it's an extension of Cheeseboard. I have to get it every time I come up to the Bay Area, which is often. I'll take any pizza they have. Doesn't matter what they're serving, I know I'll have it - even if it's a mushroom one since I'll just pick them out. All my friends say I'm crazy when I tell them I'm going to take them here when we visit because it's vegetarian. And every time after trying it they say it's amazing and surprisingly good given that it never comes with any meat. I really appreciate the "baker's dozen" aka additional 2 little slices they include when you get the whole pie. When it's between lunch and dinner service at Cheeseboard or it's the middle of the pandemic and Cheeseboard is only offering pizza to bake at home and you want to satisfy your pizza craving now, head to Sliver. I don't have a palette sophisticated enough to taste the difference between Sliver and Cheeseboard but Sliver is more conveniently located in downtown Berkeley and has multiple locations in the east bay. The last time I was in Berkeley they were serving my favorite potato pizza. Carbs on carbs, how could anyone say no? When I first discovered Sliver in college, I was mostly a carnivore and definitely didn't eat enough greens but Sliver and Cheeseboard changed my mind and got me hooked on vegetarian pizza. My only complaint during COVID is that they don't have a bathroom open even to patrons. This might be a Berkeley/ Alameda County specific COVID restriction but I was here in mid April when vaccines were available to most adults. Even in the middle of the pandemic when COVID cases were much higher in the Bay Area, most restaurants in Santa Clara county had a bathroom open when outdoor dining was the only seating option. Definitely has changed since it has become franchises :( The pizza is really dough-y and tough to chew. The toppings are still unique and great but it feels like a lot of the texture and flavor is lacking compared to 5-6 years ago.
