We were going to the MB Aquarium and stopped in for lunch. Was met by our waitress with a big smile in Ciera. She mentioned the new menu selections and new flavors Two of us had the Shrimp/Avocado salad and it was delicious and big portion. Note: this review is purely regarding the Bar top experience. We did not order food here, nor went here during the nighttime events. I went during a Saturday afternoon to have a shot of tequila for my best friend's birthday because of their mid day happy hour deal. Basically it was $2 off of all wells. There were maybe 2 tables sat for families waiting to order lunch and a couple of the barstools taken so it was a very chill environment. We were immediately greeted by the bartender to have our orders taken. I'm usually very open-minded to customer service in the food/restaurant industry but the bartender did not come off as friendly. We ordered 4 shots of Cazadores for each of us and hung out to chat for maybe 10-15 min after. What bummed me out the most, and why I'm leaving 3 stars (1 star for the shot, 1 star that we came during happy hour, and 1 star for walking by this place at night and seeing how much more fun the atmosphere looked) is that we paid almost $46 for our 4 shots and tip. I didn't feel like the customer service aspect was there as the bartender didn't seem to happy to be there and I didn't feel like the price was fair enough when In fact, you can pay the same price for a more upscale place to take your shot. read more

Stay away from here! First time I went to this place yesterday! I was with my family and I ordered a Caesar salad which consisted of two heads of romaine lettuce stacked on top of each other with the buts cut off with barely any Caesar and a sprinkle of cheese. I sent my coke back a good three times because it was watery. My son had a clam chowder bread bowl and he didn't even finish it. It was watery and tasted like it was from a can. My aunt ordered the sliders which came with three she said they were good. My husband ordered tuna poke wrap and for 17 dollars It was snack sized. My daughter did the kids fish and chips and the fish was hard as a rock! The service was okay but the 81 dollars I spent I could have went to Phil's in moss landing and had a way better meal and better service! For less money! I will never go again! We got there and were seated quickly and got are drink orders in almost right away. After waiting about 15 minutes our server returned with the drinks. Another 15 minutes later she came back and took are order, along with the " adult" drinks that took forever. We waited over an hour, had to get the waitress attention, and after all that she remembered to tell us that the chef had went home!!! And that's not the worst part, the dishwasher (person) was making our food. Buy the time it came out we were starving, to find out that the food wasn't even cooked. The cheese on the Pizza was very cold, the chicken in the salad was chewy like plastic and the only thing that was cooked was the egg that looked brown and wasn't edible. Here on a Friday. Awesome music!! Food ok. Service...seriously understaffed and slow. Two servers, for ~50+ people and only three bartenders that I saw. A table behind me sat for at least 30 minutes waiting for the table to be wiped clean and waited on. I ended up going to get one of the wait staff and it still took another 10 mins. Although our service was ok, the service for other people was terrible. Supposedly new management. Message to the managers, staff your busy nights better or hire more people. People end up getting ticked off with the few staff you have scheduled which isn't fair to them. read more

Sly McFly's is the spot. My fiancé and I enjoy popping by Sly's on the occasion and we are never disappointed. The food is solid and there is such a wide selection to meet everyone's needs.... even my finances' vegetarian needs. Great drinks at a fair price considering you are down on historic cannery row. I believe this man claims to be the general manager, however I would like to state how incredibly rude he was to us as customers. Six of us came to eat with two children in strollers, enjoyed our meal with great service from our waiter and were having an all around good time. As we were finishing our meal, this man came to clear off a table behind us for another party (the 3rd or 4th party since we sat down) and began rudely telling us to move our stroller because it was in the way of the the table. We explained to him that as he was new on shift, there had been several other parties who sat down and had no problem with us. He then proceeded to try and move our stroller and say "idgaf how many people sat here before you I didn't ask, I asked you to move your stroller". We then tried explaining how rude his tone was with us and he said he didn't care and to leave his effing restaurant. We are incredibly disgusted with the way we were treated as a couple of families trying to enjoy a meal but couldn't do so because of our strollers. We will not be returning and hope something is done about the way the general manager treats his customers. read more

Visited this spot after enjoying the aquarium. We were 4 kiddos and three tired mamas ready for a drink! We waited 30 minutes, no biggie, for a table outside. The same table that had been sitting empty the entire time we waited, odd. The service was atrocious, seemed like a very inexperienced young server. It was kind of painful to watch. (All of us have worked in restaurants for 10+ years, we get it!) There was a manager standing around not offering any assistance to his staff or guests... food was not bad though! So I'm going to go against the grain on this one. I've been frequenting this place since '83 - even though it's on a SERIOUSLY touristy street (to say the least) this is ABSOLUTELY a locals hangout. And it's a dive. A serious dive. So with that frame of reference, this is a cool place to hang. Stella's on tap. MAJOR bonus. Guinness (the wife thrives on this....I don't know why, but I've learned to just go with the flow on this one....makes my life MUCH better). :-) You're going to meet interesting people in various states of soberness (cough)...and you're going to hear some very interesting conversations - especially as the night wears on. I heard there was a bar scene in Monterey, and was anxious to give it a try after dining on cannery row. The Saturday night I came by Sly McFly's they had a live band playing some kind of classic rock type music, and a noticeably older crowd of 40 somethings. It was unfortunate because I felt like chatting up some local women that were more my age. I didn't get a chance to get a drink, but this wasn't my idea of a bar scene for younger people. read more

It wasn't as amazing as we were hoping, but it is a bar. We stood at the door for at least 4 minutes, looking upon the bar. The bartender was texting and never even looked up. One waitress finally walked around the corner, and then went to seat us. There was MAYBE 4 tables that were being used. So, not very crowded at all. We ordered and ended up just getting sodas. She hardly ever checked in on us and we barely got a refill. When my fiancé stopped her asked for a second refill. She said "you are only allowed 2.. so this is your last one" we were kind of shocked, because again, its just soda. But anyways. The food was just okay. Nothing great. Tator tots is an option for an up charge of I think $2.. it's not worth it. They barely give you a had full! But they were cooked perfectly! Again, I know its just bar food, but it isn't anything grand! It was a nice lunch, and does not cost a ton! Just wish the service was better. We ordered the San Francisco burger, Bacon cheeseburger, and Fish & chips. San Fran was very plain, no taste. Not even mayo! But our server was no where around to order it! The Bacon Cheeseburger was good. No complaints. And the fish and chips was good, didn't love the fries. read more

My family recently made a long delayed trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and we had a late lunch here. The place was quite understaffed (not a surprise) but I witnessed the manager working her butt off to make sure her staff were properly servicing all tue guests. Our food came out quickly and it was great. Come out and support your small business owners. read more

With visiting family on their frat visit to CA. We found Sly McFly's. We had Cioppino which was full of flavor and a variety of shellfish. We highly recommend it. If you are looking to save money on ex-lax, Sly's is the place for you! As horrible as the food was, the service was somehow worse. Extremely slow and inattentive. We had to send our oysters back, they were inedible. The clam chowder was the best part of our meal (I'd give it a 4 out of 10). Our wings came out cold, the steak salad had no dressing and the burger was extremely over cooked - not medium as requested. Please save your hard earned dollars and go elsewhere. read more

I've been searching for my new favorite restaurant in Monterey and here we are. We FINALLY made it into Sly McFly's today for lunch and to say I was more than pleased is an understatement. Our service was excellent, even with the waitress that was training, and the food was superb. Below is itemized what we got and I'm going to sit here and try not to get hungry while talking about it again: Appetizer Onion Rings: Ok so I hate onion rings but I had to try them. HANDS DOWN the best onion rings I've ever eaten in my entire life. I'm craving them now and I had them 4 hours ago. 100/10 would suggest these. Appetizer Mac n Cheese Bites: absolutely delicious! They could probably use some kind of sauce or seasoned salt on them but they're completely delicious and 10/10 would order again. Entrees enjoyed by my family: The Boss Burger, The Humbolt Burger, Chicken & Artichoke Flatbread, & The Bacon Cheeseburger. All delicious and super filling. & guys PLEASE don't miss the most important fact of this entire post: they have the good ranch. read more

Edit: The owner contacted me about out dining experience and this speaks volumes about an establishment. I will be going back to try it again, second time is the charm! Ok first off our waitress, Maggie, was very attentive and on point. The appetizers came out hot and fast. But here is where my two star rating comes in: We ordered fish and chips, cheese burger, cheese steak and two sodas. The soda was flat as flat can be, no big deal this is just an FYI. The fries were warm at best, the cheese steak and cheese burger were good so no complaints there. But my fish, it literally tasted like nothing. If it was not for the tartar sauce I would have sworn I was eating fried tofu. And not a fan of tofu, but what I am a fan of is fish and chips and this was very disappointing. read more

When we arrived at the restaurant we were seated fairly quickly. It took the server longer than we expected to take our drink orders. The server was very polite but the service was slow. We ordered the shrimp poor boy sandwich, short rib flat bread, the kids macaroni and cheese, a kids hamburger and two Philly cheese steak sandwiches. One of the kids really didn't touch their hamburger. When I received my short rib flatbread it had pepperoni and sausage on it along with the blue cheese crumbles that was supposed to be on the short rib flat bread. I questioned the server if I had the right order and she insisted it was the short rib flat bread. Due to the service being slow I was not going to argue nor wait for the order to be made right. I just ate what was brought to me. I originally gave the restaurant a one star review. Almost immediately I was contacted by restaurant management trying to make things right. Management followed up and made sure we were satisfied on our end and said they would follow up within their own organization to make sure staff is properly trained in the front and back of the house. We will give them another try the next time we are in Monterey which should be fairly soon. My review went from one star to three stars due to managements genuine concerns about our experience. read more

Not sure why we were the only ones told to wait 30 minutes for a table when there were 5 open tables and servers just standing around. Two adults and a baby and the only ones waiting for a table. No seating in the waiting area and when we were finally shown our table it was one that had been available THE ENTIRE WAIT TIME. Just a tip, don't keep the makers of little humans waiting. We stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for a place to watch the Cavs vs Celtics game. It's located right by a popular tourist point so we decided to check it out. Once realizing there were seats available to watch, we decided to go in. The restaurant has two portions, once is the restaurant area, with a full menu, while the side of the restaurant was more of a bar area, with a limited menu. We chose to go with the area with the limited menu because there were bigger TV screens there. The food was average. We got the fried calamari and a couple drinks. Service was good, but nothing special. Its just a very casual place to chill and grab a quick bite. read more

Glad we didn't read the reviews before we came. Service was spot on. My husband and I had the clam chowder bowls. Came out hot and in fresh bowls. Got a melon margarita and it was tasty. Super accommodating for our 2 kids also. Their tator tots were cooked perfect!! Overall very happy with our late lunch here. Would definitely come back. Wishing we would have found this place last night instead of spending a small fortune at the fish hopper. read more
