Came back for lunch today and Edgar mentioned they added new items to the menu. They had loaded nachos, The salmon dish. (Forgot the full dish) and the lobster roll which was my choice. It was good, the bread looked like a folded white sandwich bread lol. But the taste was good. Thursdays about 1:30, walked right in. Ordered the fish tacos, popcorn shrimp and the Sly burger. I have to say one of the best burgers in a while, messy and delicious. Popcorn shrimp came out hot and good to go. The tacos are pretty big, stacked and good to go. I hear they have music, I'll have to return for that. Everything else was closed tonight within the area and since we were staying next door we decided to walk over and have dinner here on Monday night around 9:30pm. We started with the pretzel bites and beer cheese which came in a cute little Dutch oven pot. Fresh and salted with hints of garlic. Stopped by for a quick drink before heading back home. The drinks were okay, the bartender not so much. First off, we tried to order a vodka Redbull and she seemed confused on what we were asking. Worth mentioning that this encounter also seemed racially motivated. Second, we paid with card and were planning on leaving a cash tip. She asked if the service was okay then proceeded to tell the whole bar that we did not tip. Had she stayed professional she would have received a tip. Will not return here and will tell others not to as well. Plenty of other places that offer far better service and professionalism. read more

Good services and great location. We sit right in the middle of the plaza with ocean view. Very tentative services. Wait for long even if we have lunch at 3pm. Please go early. And the nachos were disgusting. We got carnitas which we could barely find and had no taste. We thing they maybe had beer cheese on them? Not sure how nachos can be gross but they were. Had the displeasure of dining here for the first time yesterday and the one star is for the service. We were served by Edgar M. (His name according to our receipt) and it was terrible. Not only was he not attentive, he brought out our waters and my glass had a huge glob of pink-purple lipstick marks on it. I seriously wanted to throw up. When brought to his attention, he didn't even care that he had served customers with dirty dishes. Waiting for the check was endless, as we didn't see him up and about. After 20 min...Went to the restroom, and there he was at a back table sitting and talking with a coworker on break. Unbelievable. It's this kind of service that is a HIGE turnoff and will never get repeat customers. If they can't put any care and attention into clean dishes, I can only imagine how the food is prepared. Well we thought we were driving to San Francisco tomorrow but my job for Friday cancelled and now I had the day off, honey we're leaving early! Off we went found a hotel as we were driving up. (See next review) So once checked in and settled it was time to head out for dinner. Not my first choice but came across Sly's. Alright..sat right down and ordered. Caesars salad with chicken was great, moist chicken, good flavor to the dressing, and the romaine was cut small enough to be considered bite size. My fish and chips were good, Icelandic Cod, hand dipped beer batter good taste, fries were "crispy coat" not a favorite of mine. Fish and Chips should be served with a thick home style fry, just saying. Act's fried shrimp tacos were very good, nice homemade sauce the combination of flavors worked well. Everything was fresh, tasty, and served hot off the grill or fryer. Don't hesitate yea it's bar food done quite well, cheers to the chef's. Enjoyed outdoor dining right in the middle of Cannery Row. Menu is posted outside so you can look at it ahead of time. Staff is masked and wear gloves. Now to the good stuff - the food - we were there for lunch and it did not disappoint! My mom ordered the fish and chips (halibut) and she said it was delicious - she couldn't finish because there was so much 'meat' - and she wanted to make sure she enjoyed it at home. I ordered the Lobster Roll - cuz.... um - I'm in Monterey - and yes please! Again - it did not disappoint - the lobster meat was plentiful! The sauce was perfect - not overpowering. My friend has an allergy so ordered her burger without cheese. The waiter respected back her order and sounded correct. Her burger comes out with cheese... luckily the cheese was obviously there because if not a trip to the hospital. Next was we ordered burgers with bacon. I had do search up if it was safe to eat as it was not fully cooked. Awful service. We asked for napkins and refills. We waited the entirety of our visit and never received both. My Coke was flat, it took 45 minutes to get our food, when it came out or sandwiches were cold and soggy. The clam chowder was warm at best. I had complained about our food taking so long, and he said the place was busy when it was not. Plus the table right next to us got their food about 10 minutes after they ordered. I'm not saying the tables were gross, but I've seen flypaper with better traction. First up, my wife ordered the chicken tacos. Cold. As in, fresh out of the fridge cold. I half expected a side of "frozen peas" instead of salsa. It's like they were prepared lovingly by someone who heard about cooking on TikTok but decided that heat was just a suggestion. The clam chowder? Imagine if someone took glue, gave it a saltwater rinse, and called it soup. I'm pretty sure I lost a spoon in there, and I'm convinced it'll turn up in a future archeological dig. Then there were the macaroni bites--except there was barely any macaroni. It was mostly lobby Velveta cheese, which I'd normally celebrate, but at Sly's, it was like someone handed me a gooey cheese sponge and whispered, "Good luck." And the staff? Well, I have to give them credit--they knew. I don't think they even pretended. When asked if the meal was good, they didn't go for the usual, "How was everything?" No, they went straight to the jugular with a, "Was it... so-so?" A stunning display of low expectations, and sadly, even those weren't met. Came here on a Saturday. Bubba Gump was too busy and couldn't handle our 20 person group so we walked right next door to here. About 5pm. Not too busy. Got seated within 15 mins. It was recommended by a friend to check this place out. The entrance Sign literally says "where the locals go." Ohh... I feel sorry for them. Our group was placed in 3 different tables. One waiter kept saying they were going to connect them. It never happened. Have an ugly looking E shaped set up. Our waiter was clearly short staffed and was running around a lot. I ordered the Lobster roll (sold out), then I ordered the Cannery Fish Sandwich instead. Ordered calamari and other appetizers. 3 people in our group were going to be departing early as the children were getting hangry/restless. The waiter took that comment as the entire group was leaving. She told our group that she was bringing the check out for the cups of tap water she brought out. We all were confused. The first problem was that we all literally sat down and now she's giving us a check for only water? Ohwell. We communicated, and she took our orders. Big mistake. It's ok. You're short staffed. 2nd problem... this place does not have changing station/table in either available bottom floor bathrooms. My wife and I had to find a picnic chair outside in the tourist flocked area, to change his diapers. Such a hurdle. This place is located in a touristy hub, with NO inclusive thought of people caring for their babies in the venue. 3rd problem... the entrees came out way before the appetizers. I literally ordered the appetizers when I asked for the waters. Wasted my appetite for them. A lot of items weren't even brought out and the waiter/cook had forgotten to make them. 4th problem... the cook was no good. A lot of our sea food was under cooked. I got food poisoning within 20mins - 1 hour of eating the Cannery Fish Sandwhich. Threw it all up. My body was not digesting it. This comes from someone who can microwave fish in 5 days and still eat it, with no issues. So this cook at McFly is no good. Food poisoning is no fun. I had all left overs, and all were trashed. My review is purely because of the cook and food. Waiters all make mistakes. But the foood... ugh... sucked. If you like seafood... this ain't it. Drive a hour north and go to Sam's Chowder house if you want some real sea food. Sucks because Monterey deserves better, and if locals truly come here... tough. read more

We came in to grab a quick cocktail - the female bartender took forever to get to us, even though it was not busy. Charged us $21 for an Aperol Spritz ($10 for the Aperol and $11 for the Prosecco) which was barely drinkable and made one of the worst Long Islands I've ever had, half the drink was sour mix and she shook the cocktail and didn't top it with Coke. We also ordered a Jack & Coke that was extremely weak. But the end of our experience we paid $50 for 3 very bad cocktails. No clue if she was a green bartender or just bad at her job.
