I came here with my friend while I was doing a detox that required me to be vegan and gluten free. Mac and cheese is one of my favorite foods but I have never been able to find a suitable substitute for the real deal. S'MAC changed that for me. I got the gluten free mac with the vegan cheese and it tasted damn good. They have sooo many pre-made or build your own options with many different toppings and cheeses. You can get it baked, with breadcrumbs, etc. Everything comes baked in a cast iron skillet. They have a sampler platter you can get to try different macs. The sitting area is colorful and especially nice when the weather is good with open doors all around. Cashier was nice and helpful. Service is relatively quick, given that they bake the mac and cheese. Took maybe 10 minutes to get our meals. Will come back to try different macs! read more

Apparently, S'Mac is one of those places that's so cool in NYC that it's become a place that people 'need' to go to. I guess it's so essential to the New York but really I don't think it's anything crazy good. The gf got the Parisienne which was just..cheesy, with a little bit of sweetness from the random bits of fig. As far as the other flavors that were in there, rosemary or shiitakes meh not much. I got the buffalo which was just all right, thankfully, they had tabasco there to up the heat level. I guess I can say I've been there and that's about it. read more

Fast food Mac n' Cheese. What a time to be alive. Had a few friends over my house on a rainy afternoon, throwing back some beers, and watching the latest season of Big Mouth on Netflix. Suddenly, the cheese craving hit... Got delivery from Uber eats. The boxes the food is packaged in is super fun to eat out of. We ordered a medium 4 cheese (tasty!), and cheeseburger mac n cheese (tastier!). Each serves 1-2 people. I was really impressed with the food. My friend and I decided to come here for lunch on a whim. I've passed by it so many times but really, it's Mac & Cheese, what's the big deal? I can make a pretty awesome Mac & Cheese myself. True. But this place was surprisingly good. There was still a line even on a weekday lunch but we managed to snag a table before our orders came. My friend had the Alpine which had gruyere and bacon and I had the Parisienne with Brie, shiitake mushrooms, and fig. Both were delicious! The Alpine had that perfectly cheesy and salty flavor while the Parisienne was a little more subtle but creamy and the slight sweetness from the figs made for an awesome combination. As far as portion sizes the nosh was filling enough for myself. Any more and it would have been overwhelming. They also have options of take and bake at home or good old take out. Just make sure you go to the other door for that one. I recommend this place for those days when you get a random craving for comfort food or with kids. read more

Love, love, love S'MAC. As a baked mac addict with a busy schedule, I've probably been coming here almost weekly for a year now. (Sometimes, multiple times weekly!.. The cravings are strong.) While the (relatively large) dining area can fill up quickly, it's spacious enough that you can usually find a spot within a few minutes during rush hours. They play good music as opposed to flavor-of-the-week, earworm pop, and it's always at the perfect volume to allow for conversations. There are outlets on the walls for easy charging for your devices. The owner is often there during the days, working front and center and smiling, and it is evident that she loves this place as much as I do and wants the experience to be great. When it's warm, the windowed front wall and part of the side wall are opened to make way for sunshine and light breezes. When it's cold, as it is now, you can still see through the windows and the indoor climate is kept comfortable. As for the FOOD, as a creature of habit, and one who enjoys spice, I usually go for the masala mac or the buffalo chicken (with added jalapenos). I always order for-here, but there's also the option to get your mac to-go and bake it at home. I ought to note, in addition to a variety of fun and yummy types of mac and the build-your-own option, S'MAC also offers salad, cookies, and drinks. The only request I have for the management is Sriracha sauce. Just one bottle. It can be kept on the cart with the takeout boxes and water and shared by the whole store, but I think that that would make a very worthwhile addition to the selection of condiments, considering, in my personal experience, when it comes to mac, it is the only sauce I tend to reach for. read more

The mac and cheese here is REALLY greasy...pretty gross when your lunch comes swimming in a puddle of oil. But if you can get past that, flavours and price are alright. We ordered the sampler, which comes with 8 different types of mac - I liked the decent selection since a lot of places usually fall back on using the more 'boring' flavours in their sampler dishes, but this wasn't really the case here. The cheeseburger and four-cheese were best in our opinion, while the international flavours like Spain, France, and 'alpine' fell short. The sampler is an okay size for two people - it definitely doesn't leave you stuffed, but the amount of grease also puts you off from wanting to eat more. Really good mac and cheese, but nothing exciting. When I read the reviews, a lot of people complained about the service... I was rushing a bit because I had to go to Top of the Rock after meeting my friend there. So when I got to 345 E. 12th Street, I ended up in a tiny take-out store. At first, I thought it was a restaurant, but I was in a hurry so I just ordered it to go. My friend popped in and said the actual restaurant part was two stores down. So we ended up taking our take-out to the sit-down area after asking the cashier if it was okay. But then it got really crowded and one of the waiters asked us to leave since we ordered take out. My friend explained my error, but the waiter wouldn't budge. We were almost finished and if he gave us 10mins, we would've left. The people who took our table just ordered so they didn't even have any food yet. That was upsetting and if I was craving mac and cheese in NY, I'd get the take out and walk to the park or Union Square and enjoy my meal outside. read more

This place is tiny! I like mac and cheese and I thought this place would be a kick to my taste buds, but it was mediocre at best. The mac tends to be on the heavy, oily, food coma side. The sampler offers 8 types and only half were good. =( The buffalo chicken was off for me. The food: Buffalo Chicken- Cheddar and American cheese with chicken with buffalo sauce and blue cheese. I thought this woulda been an automatic but the mac was too one note for me. I thought the buffalo sauce didn't complement the mac at all and the blue cheese was too strong for me. Visited S'MAC today, on a Saturday afternoon. It was empty when I got there but super packed by the time I was leaving. I got the "Nosh" sized (decent portion) Philly cheesesteak Mac and cheese. It was comprised of Mac and cheese, your choice of yellow or provolone cheese, steak, onions and peppers! Here is my breakdown: Napoletana - roasted garlic and cheese marries together. Creamy and savory with complimenting flavors not overpowering each other. This is one of my top choices of flavors. Parisienne - this was...interesting. Brie cheese, mushrooms, and fig. Though tasty when separate, the combination was a bit odd. Not a favorite. La Mancha - tasted the manchego cheese but was incredibly subtle. So much so that I couldn't decipher any significant flavor profiles to really judge the taste either way. Alpine - barely tasted the bacon but was the smoker flavor was yummy. Cajun - yes yes yes you need to order this. Top favorite out of all of them. Cheddar cheese and andouille sausage. I need to say anything more it was just that good. The flavor was complex with the seasonings, onions, and peppers. Held together with creamy cheese and al dente pasta. If I knew, I would have ordered a big bowl of this. The 4 Cheese, Cheeseburger, and All American all were typical mac n Cheese flavors so for those wanting classics, stick with any of those. Just as yummy as I had remembered, this being my third time at Smac in a few years. This was the first time it was so empty, and there were numerous seats to chose from. I think other more frequent regulars know to stay away from this place on a hot summer afternoon. There is no air conditioning, just one lone working fan in the while eating area. I felt very bad for the cook back there in front of the oven. The Mac was delicious, I chose the four cheese since my silly daughter declined to do the Mac sampler which is what I always get here. I never can remember which is my favorite flavors out of them all. So I went with the four cheese. It comes out verrrry hot, bubbly and creamy. I burnt my mouth for the first few bites since I was so hungry and refused to just let it cool a bit. The next time I will choose a different flavor, I think the options that offer extra stuff in the Mac may be a bit tastier. Overall food was very good and the overall vibe of the resturant is very pleasant. However the is not much air condition in here. I had come here on a saturday afternoon with some of my friends and decided to get one of the dishes. Although is was good I had to wait 20+ minutes just for the dish. Pretty cool spot where you can build your own skillet of piping hot mac and cheese. You can also choose one of their menu options if you dont want to build your own. I tried the napolenta with tomatoes and mozzarella and my brother got the cheeseburger mac and cheese. They come in various sizes, we both got the smallest size and were stuffed. During my lunch break I was craving some Mac and Cheese, and of course Yelp showed me the way to S'Mac. Originally, I didn't know that there were two separate store fronts to order from. This address here is for people who want to order-in, and then about two store fronts down the street is the location where you can order or deliver. I was a fan of their Mac and Cheese made to order. It was deliciously cheesy with a cheese sauce and real baked cheese layered on the top. I got the All-American Mac and Cheese, and it was definitely worth my travels from work. The price was kind of a little bit pricey in my own personal opinion for Mac and Cheese, but I think it is definitely worth it. They have three different sizes, Noche (Small), Major Mucho (Medium), and the Mongo (Large) and my Noche All-American was the cheapest and most basic of their selection. It was roughly $5.01 after tax and everything. The serving sizes seem small, but once I finished my meal I was surprisingly satisfied. They have a ride range of selections and I thought that some of their concoctions were quite creative; not to mention delicious sounding. The service was pretty straight forward, and everything seems to be made to order so you get your Mac and Cheese nice hot and gooey. I fell in love with S'MAC the first time I came here with Justina W. a year ago; I had gotten the nosh (smallest size) Parisienne and she had gotten a curry one because she really likes Indian food. Hers was pretty good, but too spicy for me; I was in raptures with the Parisienne (and not just for the name). Shiitake mushrooms, figs, gruyere and rosemary are some of my favorite foods on this earth, and the combination was ingenious and incredibly good together. I was so impressed with this concoction that I didn't even notice that it was vegetarian until I finished it - or rather, couldn't eat anymore. Despite the seemingly small size, mac and cheese is really filling because of all the cheese. Do NOT be fooled. Seriously, you can't eat that much. (Or maybe you can. I'd be a bit scared). I came back again recently with Tyler L and we were delighted to see both a yelp deal and a foursquare deal for 50% off. We each got a nosh (even though I had originally wanted to split it) and Tyler was able to finish off most of what I couldn't eat ... though it was still way too much food. We had the Mediterranean (the goat cheese and kalamata olives were fantastic) and the Parisienne (delightful as always). I love that they're served in little cast-iron skillets, and the ambiance is brightly-colored, well-lit and friendly. It was bland and rubbery, reminiscent of meat from a frozen TV dinner. On the flip side, the macaroni was wayyy salty. It has been a very long time since my last visit. S'mac remains the same, baked Mac & cheese in 3 size options and a variety of pre-set options, or make your own add on's. Location:plenty of seating, very nice staff, speedy service, and clean. Price point: average. On our current visit we had the Cajun mac & cheese it was ok, not too spicy, not too mild. We also ordered the Philly Cheese Steak Mac & Cheese. I was very underwhelmed with my selection, the Mac & Cheese was perfect, the peppers, the onions and cheese were very good. However, the steak itself fell very short! I thought I was going to get fresh pieces of steak like those at other similar Mac & Cheese based establishments that was not the case here. The steak I believe was from the supermarket freezer isle, the steak um brand. I was a bit taken back and removed every single piece of "meat" from my food and ate around the rest of the meal. Seating is only available outdoors. Place your order on a kiosk inside and you may pay there or to your server. Pick up a number and place it on your table. The server will find your number and bring out the cheesiest Mac 'n cheese! There is a restroom. Just ask your server how to access. They seem to get a lot of delivery folks picking up. It can be a bit of a hazard when they park right in front of the walkway as customers, servers, and pedestrians are all walking past. I almost had a bike run into my table. Perhaps the restaurant can organize this better by designating an area on the side for bikes to park. Overall many options and very filling. I wanted to ask the server what the most popular dish was since I had trouble deciding, but between orders and running back and forth from the kitchen I could never get ahold of him or anyone else cooking in the back.
