I fell in love with S'MAC the first time I came here with Justina W. a year ago; I had gotten the nosh (smallest size) Parisienne and she had gotten a curry one because she really likes Indian food. Hers was pretty good, but too spicy for me; I was in raptures with the Parisienne (and not just for the name). Shiitake mushrooms, figs, gruyere and rosemary are some of my favorite foods on this earth, and the combination was ingenious and incredibly good together. I was so impressed with this concoction that I didn't even notice that it was vegetarian until I finished it - or rather, couldn't eat anymore. Despite the seemingly small size, mac and cheese is really filling because of all the cheese. Do NOT be fooled. Seriously, you can't eat that much. (Or maybe you can. I'd be a bit scared). I came back again recently with Tyler L and we were delighted to see both a yelp deal and a foursquare deal for 50% off. We each got a nosh (even though I had originally wanted to split it) and Tyler was able to finish off most of what I couldn't eat ... though it was still way too much food. We had the Mediterranean (the goat cheese and kalamata olives were fantastic) and the Parisienne (delightful as always). I love that they're served in little cast-iron skillets, and the ambiance is brightly-colored, well-lit and friendly. There are about 12 small tables. The protocol is to place your order, wait for a seat, bring a number to your table and then they will bring the food to you. If they run out of numbers (aka tables), you will have to wait until one is available. We ordered the Buffalo Chicken and Cheeseburger major munch. The meat in either of them was not good. It was bland and rubbery, reminiscent of meat from a frozen TV dinner. On the flip side, the macaroni was wayyy salty. A large cast iron skillet divided into 8 sections offering 8 of S'mac's best mac and cheese options: All-American, 4 Cheese, Cheeseburger, La Mancha, Cajun, Napoletana, Alpine, Parisienne. You have the option of small medium or on a large plate. Taste wise was a bit too salty. I didn't find anything special about it. When you order, you're given a number to put on your table and some metal forks with napkins. On the table, there's some salt, pepper and tabasco for those who like a bit extra kick to their macs. I got the cajun and it was ...quite spicy! The sausage was were the spice was hiding. It's A LOT of cheese and it felt like there was also a lot of pieces of sausage and peppers mixed in as well. I couldn't finish the nosh size all by myself so next time I go I'll definitely split a nosh plate with someone else. Always amazing. Gluten-free pasta. That taste amazing is amazing. To be honest though, every time I stop by I try a new dish and I'm always satisfied. I recommend making sure you give yourself some time, as they are always very busy. I also never recommend dining in as the place is a little bit more set up for deliveries and pick ups. There's also always a line or a decent weight, just because the orders are always coming in and out. I would take away a star for sure if I was ever to dial-in. We tried the sampler, we were not impressed with a single type of Mac and cheese. I wouldn't say it was really good, but I wouldn't say it was bad either. It was meh... Furthermore, the Hispanic man working behind the counter was so uninterested in the customers. He seemed constantly annoyed; his attitude seemed very "whatever" the entire time we were there. I would watch him to see if it was just me; we noticed other customers felt the same way. I would fire him immediately if he chooses to have that sort of persona. Me and my friend were CRAVING some Mac and cheese and with us being vegan our options are pretty limited. When we ordered we were pumped, unfortunately, when the food came it was still really cold around the middle. We got it heated up again but by then we were kind of over it. It didn't taste like cheese, or even fake cheese. It was kinda off. The location is great, and it's awesome to people watch. That being said, if you're trying to get the best bang for your buck this is the best place to do it, especially considering we spent less than $40 for so much food. While the portions were overwhelming, I found the flavor of the mac & cheese to be pretty disappointing. We ordered the MM Cheeseburger, MM Garden Lite, and MM Alpine. The Alpine was the collective favorite - smothered in Gruyere cheese with chunks of bacon on top. Unfortunately although each of the skillets was loaded with cheese and breadcrumbs, I found each dish to have an overwhelming note of CHEESE and not much else. I would've liked more flavor within each of the mac & cheese to really bring that wow level for me. The verdict: S'MAC is solid for a quick bite to eat and its different options are hella creative. Came here for lunch and it was pretty great. You can build your own mac and cheese and I love that because I can add things I like to it. You can pick two cheeses which is legit. The employee taking the order was very helpful and kind. I ended up getting mozzarella and cheddar cheese with mushrooms, spinach and garlic, and cilantro as toppings. I didn't think it would be that good, but it definitely was! The only downside was that the wait was about 20 minutes and for something like this, that really shouldn't be the case. A place dedicated to Mac and Cheese? Sign me up! I was passing through NY for a wedding and a friend recommended this place to me, knowing my love for mac and cheese. Mostly, she had raved about the Masala Mac and Cheese and I was set on trying that! I have to say, I was not disappointed. I could taste the different spices and herbs in it, and it was on point on a chilly day. I also got the smallest size, and that was still fairly large for how much it cost. It takes some doing to disappoint with mac and cheese, but this place managed it. The Parisienne was odd, heavily over-salted and over-seasoned--I mean, I ordered it in part because I like rosemary, but salt and rosemary was pretty much all I could taste--big flakes of rosemary in every bite. The figs also felt like a weird add-on, still kind of cold in the dish. I didn't think it would be possible to make a M&C with brie where I could barely taste the brie, but this was it. Of course I did scarf most of it down, but rather than leaving me with a warm, comfort-food feeling, I just had that uncomfortable, brick in my stomach feeling the rest of the night. Came with a large group, and the results were a mixed bag for the others. One of my friends tried the Masala, and thought the indian spices mix with the M&C was a mess. Another person did enjoy Mediterranean a good bit, though. Another plus is that they do have gluten-free offerings, which was helpful for a couple of members of our party, and why we chose this in the first place. The seating was a bit tight and uncomfortable and there was only 1 restroom for everyone there but overall a good experience. I've been here three times over the years, and it's pretty good. I definitely wouldn't be able to make myself mac and cheese of this caliber, and before coming here, I didn't even know it could get more specialized than a Kraft box. The ambiance is unimpressive but doesn't detract from the experience. The nosh doesn't seem to be worth the price for its small size. The major munch size is definitely too big for me to finish in one sitting, but I'm a fan of taking everything to go and easing a second meal from them later on. I like the crunchy crust on top, which adds variety to, you know, the wet cheese (this is not a complaint). Based on memory, most of the dishes don't seem to vary THAT much, in that they all consistently taste good. I've had the Alpine and Four Cheese and enjoyed both. I'm sure something like the Cajun would be really different though, and personally, I've never gotten that because I don't think I would like spiciness in my mac and cheese. If you have a craving for cheese or carbs, this place will definitely please you. I am so late writing this review for this heavenly place that serves the best Vegan mac and cheese I ever had. Most of you made disagree with me on what I'm about to say but I will promise you that the wait is worth it. Just the selection to add veggies in your mac and cheese dish is mind-blowing but the satisfaction on your first bite will kick your brain into high gear. Yes, the price is a little hard on the pockets but so darn worth the meal. The first time I had it, is when someone in the neighborhood decided to buy me my first dish from Smac, and yes, I wasn't too sure about it either due to my experience in NYC being food poison half the time. But when I saw the vegan menu and they knew what I'd like to eat, I was in. That first bite felt like Lord Beerus and WHIS from DBZ super when they first came to earth and they have sushi for the first time. "HOOK" then I order again on another day when I had money. "I am homeless on hard times right now" I went back again for the third time and my fourth was when they donated orders no one pick up to the community fridge located outside their business. I was "HOOK" as I said before. I'm ThePandaPhotographer and I wish I had enough money to eat there twice a day. But I can't but wish.
