Grabbed breakfast on a Sunday and we got there at the perfect time before it got busy. You can dine-in and have table service or take your food to go. Let's start off with the overall of 4/5. If you are in the area definitely try it out, it is a small quaint spot with pretty neat art work. Omfg! Y'all, this place was so good that I had to go back a second time before I left for home! My "little sister" introduced this place to me as we got the breakfast biscuit sandwiches to go. We also got the cinnamon flavored bread and I think the raspberry bread ! Now I have to let you know I'm a meat eater and my "little sister's" wife is vegan and we were both happy! A year or so ago I tried a donut boat at their Glenwood pop up and was really disappointed because the donuts were very dry and overpriced. But given the great Yelp reviews, I decided to drop into the new location and tried a Best Seller egg sandwich to go. The sandwich was soooo good! Fluffy egg on a soft herb biscuit with a savory jam. Yum! I wish I had gotten two of them. The sandwich was wrapped nicely in foil to keep it hot, and make it easy to eat without making a mess in your car (should you be unable to make it all the way home before digging in). The cafe itself is nice and bright, with tables arranged in an L-shaped seating area. There was plenty of space when I came in on Thursday morning. read more

Found this place nestled at the end of a strip mall in Rogers Park and what a find. Hipster heaven. We were lucky to get in after the initial crowd and right before the next rush. No wait at all. (plus a little outdoor area that can accommodate a few more), so it gets crowded quickly, and it's a little - only a smidge - overpriced. I mean you get good quality food, and we didn't wait long, but in the end, my bowl was mostly potatoes that I decided I didn't really want to eat. I got a fancy coffee drink, that was pleasant - albeit a bit on the sweet side - but more than palatable, but I personally quite adore cardamom. He got a sandwich bursting with eggy deliciousness and meat. It looks like he paid, b/c I can't find the transaction on my cc bill, so if I remember correctly, for 2 coffees (one fancy), and 2 brunch dishes, I think it was $40ish. It was good. We ordered the vegan veggie tofu sandwich and the vegan patty melt. Both with vegan cheese and they were SO CHeEsY and GOoEy! Best vegan food I've had from a not all vegan restaurant! Both sandwiches came in on sourdough slices and the patty melt came as a full sandwich but my veggie tofu one came in half? Not sure if that's how it's sold (they were both around the same price) or if an accident happened but I was still pretty full and content with what I got just seemed a little off. Do you ever find those places that you' think "I need to make this one of my go to spots!"? This is one of them. The staff was very sweet and helpful, the food was phenomenal! They are also queer friendly. They have a cute indoor area as well as an outdoor area and can't wait to come back to sit outside! I forget about this place because I live in East Rogers Park and tend to head north or south VS west, but ordered delivery and they are fantastic. Had an egg and cheese biscuit sandwich which looked small on the menu but it's rather large, a little tricky to eat because it's so thick but I wouldn't take stars off for that. I've been putting off this review for awhile because I almost didn't want other people to know about Smack Dab . Well, there's no keeping secrets about smack dab now! Over the year they've become a neighborhood landmark. They've expanded their menu and now host community dinners where what feels like hundreds of people can get their tummies filled with the best food and their hearts filled with love and kindness. In all the time I've been going to Smack Dab I've been greeted by some of the most caring humans I've ever met. The service in unreal. When I moved to Roger's Park I felt really lonely, but the people at Smack Dab gave me a place where I felt welcomed. It's been a meaningful place to turn to when things are going good for me and when things aren't. AND the food is phenomenal. I had a less than positive idea of vegan food before Smack Dab. But they prepare everything with such care that you'd never be able to tell. The donut flavors change daily (except for the famous cinnamon sugar) so if you like variety get ready to be pleasantly surprised. All gender restrooms! And trans and queer positivity radiates from corner to corner. Smack Dab is woman owned, environmentally conscious (they compost!) and collaborates with other local businesses. Absolutely. Fabulous. Wow, is one word to describe both the donuts and cold brew. We stopped by because I was looking for local cafes to try and saw their donuts. We stopped in on a Monday mid morning. There were quite a few people on their patio and many people came in for pick up while we waited. I was impressed with how busy they were, it tells you how good their food is. The donuts were so delicious I was tempted to order more! The wait was a little long for just donuts and coffee (about 20 minutes), but the service was great. I'm not sure if the donuts are made per order, if so, then the wait was 100% worth it. We will be back to try their breakfast options for sure. This place was definitely bumping, but we were able to fit four adults, a 1 year old in a high chair, and our 3 month old passed out in her carseat around a table with no major issues. My first experience here was great. I definitely appreciated the Covid precautions they had in place. Only one party is inside with the cashier/for ordering at a time. You can look over the menu and wait for your order in the closed off outside area. The order was ready pretty quickly. I don't leave a lot of reviews, but I've loved Smack Dab's breakfast sandwiches since they started serving them out of the bars on Glenwood. Today, though, I had the double chocolate pepita bread for the very first time. It's gluten-free and vegan, and it's above and beyond the best GF baked good I've ever had. (I'm not GF and haven't liked much that I've tried so far.) It comes in a recyclable foil tin, and while I suppose you could take it out and slice it, I've been nibbling on it with a fork all day. It has the consistency of a brownie, with a crumble on top and some toasted pumpkin seeds for a little crunch. "Delicious" doesn't do it justice. I also had the Almond Croissant not too long ago; pretty sure I whispered, "my God" after nearly every bite. I recommend giving both of them - and the breakfast sandwich - a try! read more

This review is for food I had from their booth at an event. I haven't been to their "real" space. I was impressed that they offered a gluten-free vegan mac and cheese, and it wasn't even soy cheese! (The "cheese" sauce was cashew-based.) The friendly staffer offered me parsley and green onion, and suggested I add a little hot sauce. The combination was good, but I soon figured out why she suggested it- without the add-ons, the mac and cheese and no real flavor. The noodles were also a bit dry, but that may have been because the dish was made earlier in the day and kept in a hot box for the event. The cole slaw was made with red cabbage, with vinegar dressing. I prefer creamy cole slaw, generally, but this was pretty good. Still, I was glad I had only a small portion, because the vinegar flavor would have gotten old pretty quickly after a few more bites. The cabbage did stay nice and crispy. The iced tea was solid. I didn't try the hush puppies, but the people sitting at my table, who were from the south, said that they were good enough, but not "real" southern hush puppies.
