again, another trendy place that I don't need to "queer-o-meter" you, I didn't get any weird looks here either. so you can go froth and be queer problem free. This is basic, yet customizable, place. its not on the menu but I had a bagel, goat cheese, tomato and red onion sandwich. My wife got egg and cheddar on an English muffin and we got the cappuccino and a muffin too. It's not cheap - I think that was like $17?? plus I tip (DONT BE CHEAP!!! TIP YOUR PEEPS!) but the location is nice, downtown, brick walls with funky artwork around. Clearly parking is a problem if you are driving there but there is metered parking, if you can find an open space! The caps were good (full disclosure: we just got back from Italy, so any cappuchino is not going to live up to my standard now.. the bar was set WAY high and they are only 1.40 there!) and the woman did the fun leaf thing with the foam. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I LOVE THAT! it was a good milk/espresso/foam ratio. nice work my barista! the egg sammie was "good" as she put it, its a pretty uneventful sandwich, but i did notice the english muffin was a oversized one, which I think is nice. and my custom sandwich was YUM, they aren't overdo-ers with the fillers but they are happy to oblige if you go back up and ask for an extra slice of tomato or onion or whatever. I did and they didn't balk at me, very accommodating. The staff was all nice, the place is clean, OH and cold self serve water was SWEET too, I like that. This little cafe / coffee shop had a great vibe! I loved it. We stopped in for hot chocolate and espresso, and ended up with a delicious popover too. Everybody is very nice and what I really love about this place is their environmentally-conscious attitude. Great place. I usually reserve 5 stars for places that are completely vegetarian, but this place gets 5 stars for their environmental commitment. It's all good! read more

I don't care what anyone has said about the staff. They had me at "Here's your coffee." Best coffee in the city right now. Hands down. (Sorry, Coffee Exchange!) And If I had to serve coffee to a constant stream of hipsters, millennials and lawyers, I'd be grumpy too. I can only imagine the conversations: "Oh, yeah, hey, can I have a half-caff, decaf mocha latte with soy milk. No, make that almond milk. Oh, and are your eggs free range?" Their pumpkin spice latte actually tastes like both pumpkin and latte! The mocha is also very good, but I was particularly impressed by the former. One of my favorite cafes in Providence. First of all, its location is AMAZING - you're just a few doors down from some of the coolest shops in Rhode Island. The breakfast sandwiches are to die for (I love making my own custom, croissant sandwich) and the chia see yogurt parfait is so yummy! Coffee is pretty decent, but the matcha tea latte that I had was a bit too sweet for me. The vibe is very eclectic and hip here, and there are plenty of seats for your to do work, read, or catch up. I don't know what happened to this place, but their coffee is how I imagine moose urine tastes. I've been here a few times over the past few years and have had pleasant/ A-okay experiences. Nothing to brag about. That said I've decided to try their iced coffee twice in the past month, since its on my walk to work. Not good experiences. Probably better to save yourself the dollar and go to Dunkin Donuts around the corner. I love being at Small Point in the mid-day or early evening, anytime it's quiet and calm. The coffee's good, the cupcakes are great (oh Sugarush!), the seating is comfortable. It's a good place to read the New Yorker and drink some iced coffee on a hot day, or work on some writing on a cold evening. I appreciate that they're open later than the West Side coffee shops - sometimes a girl wants caffeine at 7:30, okay? - and that they're in such a central location. Oh, and I met my husband-to-be there, so, um, the clientele is clearly pretty cool. I'm not saying you'll have the same luck I did, but at least you'll have good coffee! read more

I went to grab a coffee.. I love the atmosphere and the all around cool downtown vibe. They have great choices on the menu and their presentation is very clean. I think its also cool if you sit inside near the wall there is chalk and a challboard so peopld can write cool things. One thing I didnt like is when I sat outside the table had some food crumbs on it, I wish the staff would keep out with the maintenance outside as inside. Very cute place for brunch. The inside near the booth has a whole wall that you can write on with chalk. The people serving are fine. I was able to get a sausage and egg with avocado and spinach without the bread which was nice. It was pretty good. I feel a compulsion to review coffeeshops with wi-fi. (Of course, when I started reviewing coffeeshops with wi-fi, it was a super-rarity...not so much anymore.) Anyway, I like this place for a zillion reasons, but it's the booths that really sold me. I like to work/write in cafes. I do not like to work/write in cafes with someone's chair pushed up so far against me that I can't get up (I'm looking at you, Coffee Exchange), or a tangle of wires criss-crossing the floor in every direction because there aren't enough outlets (hi, The Edge!). I want SPACE, glorious SPACE. So that makes Small Point the ideal work cafe, as I think someone else may have mentioned. I'm almost loath to mention this and encourage people, because I already know this place is going to turn into a mecca for JWU and RISD students come the fall. And really, why shouldn't it be? It's got plants, and chalkboards, and delicious salads (yum, watermelon and feta!), cool staff, decent coffee. Plus lately they've been running Game Nights on Wednesdays, which is an intriguingly nerdy idea. Small Point reminds me of similar cafes in "real" urban areas -- places like Diesel in Davis Square, for example, or any number of similar joints in population centers bigger than Providence's. No, really, I wish Small Point nothing but success. I just think it's kind of a well-kept secret right now, and a very selfish part of me would like it to stay that way. read more

Giving it 5 stars because it might be the best coffee I have ever had in my life. The place is your typical cafe and the prices are a bit high (comparable to Starbucks), but you're getting a delicious tasting coffee with minimal acidity. It's much better than any other place I've gone and worth every penny. Try this place out. read more

Please rest assure that my comments are not ill-intended as I do believe you own a great local business. I guess the thing that turns me off the most about your plain coffee is that the taste of it was coarse and not at all smooth. Often times, one can taste its coffee grind. I guess, I expected to get better coffee (from your cozily furnished and well managed local coffee shop with fancy vibes) than coffee which I can get from a coffee pump at a train station. I like this place and the vibe but they are extremely slow most times I've been here. Also, their avocado toast needs a lot more avocado! Popped in only for a coffee. The atmosphere was comfortable, but kind of short on seating. The service was quick and friendly. The food in the cases and on the menu were SO tempting! Since I'm in the area pretty often, I look forward to trying some of their pastries. Prices aren't bad. I spend $3 on a large coffee. The (medium blend) coffee, which I drink black, is brewed pretty strong and it's good...but once it cools, it had the sad burnt taste to it. :( bummer. Stopped in today for a brief informal meeting and enjoyed a single cup of Costa Rica grown coffee served up in a single-sized French press. I tend to take my cream and sugar with coffee- and I drank this black without complaint! I enjoyed the ability for outdoor seating, indoor: couches, tables, fresh flowers, and booths. Friendly and knowledgeable staff (although some still being trained! They have only been open for a month), but some room for improvement on the menu - a few pastry type items and sandwiches available, but they are new and I am sure over the next few weeks ordering/preparation will be more normalized. Cute spot that's relatively new to the downtown Westminster area. Stopped in for lunch while doing holiday shopping. Decent turkey, cheddar and apple sandwich on a baguette. (Sandwiches are served with corn chips). The lattes looked good and I'll have to go back. The disappointment was the soup hadn't been turned on to heat up and it was after 12:30pm. Seating area has a mix of tables and couches. The exposed brick wall had cut little tea cups with ivy scattered throughout. A nice detail. Certainly not the best coffee shop in Providence. Went here with my friends the other day to try and get some school work done. We walked in and it was packed with other college kids that had the same idea as us. The barista was warm and welcoming when we walked in the door. It was a cold day so I ordered a green tea and my friends got coffees. The prices are the same as all the other cafes around. The average beverage ranges from 2-4 bucks. My friends and I found a spot at a table in the back. We sat down set up our computers but the free wifi was really slow. Probably because everyone else in the cafe was using it. They had an array of games that you could play.... connect four was on our table and I really wanted to play but I wanted to get work done. Once one of the booths opened up, we moved on over. Needless to say we never got our work done because we sat and chit chatted as we drank our beverages. *The street parking can get tough during lunch time and weekends in this area. read more

Small Point is a great spot to chill out with a hot drink or grab lunch (even on gluten free bread! Watch out for cross-contamination, though). Both the espresso and coffee are very tasty - definitely some of the best I've had in a long time, in Providence at least. Everyone that works there is very friendly, and the cafe is a bright, open space with plenty of tables and plugs. I went into Small Point Cafe because I just happened to be passing by and wanted some coffee. I'm also a big fan of anything with cheese inside or on top so I also got an egg sandwich on a bagel. Both things were delicious. I got an iced, soy, mocha - for the record. And I was very happy to find that it was well made, with the perfect mix of coffee and chocolate. The egg sandwich was great, too. I felt like I definitely got enough eggs and cheese to be satisfied, and the bagel was pretty good as well. The people behind the counter were helpful and friendly. Even when my girlfriend was unsure of what to order one guy offered to make her a salad out of anything that was available, even though "custom made salad" was not on the menu haha. There was enough seating, and I even saw some board games floating around. I wish I had more time to stay but I guess I'll just have to stop in again. *UPDATE* I went into Small Point again this morning. I ordered pretty much the same thing and I was still super happy with how my food/coffee turned out. Even though they were busy I still managed to get in, order and wait for food, and leave before getting a ticket for parking illegally across the street. Grabbed a quick lunch to go today but wasn't very satisfied. I ordered the pesto tomato, mozzarella wrap and an iced green tea with ginger. The iced tea looked like water and tasted like water. Very refreshing to not have to force myself to finish my dunkin donuts iced coffee( since it usually tastes like shittt) The color scheme is adorable, I love the green and brick... not to mention the array of live plants all over! I love Small Point. It's exactly what Down City needs and I only hope they are one of many more great new places to revitalize the area. It's perfect for a lazy afternoon with a cuppa and a book. Cute decor, friendly staff, delicious pastries (AND THEY HAVE STROOPWAFFLES! Pre-packaged, but who cares?!), eco-conscious practices, and local products. I love the little touches like the crazy bookshelf in back made from old sprinklers and their bathroom that's decorated with ROBOTS! I enjoy me some Small Point. And, I think that their sandwich/soup options for lunch are pretty great. Great assortment of teas, solid coffee, and the type of 'coffee shop' ambiance that doesn't come easily to downtown Providence. There are plants, art and cozy spots to read while sipping your lattes. Why not 5 stars, you may ask? Well - they are really pretty slow, and their salads are quite overpriced. This is such a great spot to meet friends, come alone with a great book, or stop in for to get some coffee or breakfast to-go. Really, it's great for anything! I went for the first time today with my sisters, although one of my sisters is a Small Point regular. We all got hot beverages and breakfast, and everything was great. My absolute favorite was the Cafe Mocha made with almond milk and the "cherry on top" was the unexpected foam art on top. We sat in there for a long while just chatting, eating and sipping, and enjoying the huge windows that overlook Westminster. They had a steady flow of customers coming in and out, and a few people who had plopped down and looked like they were there for the long haul. Can't wait to go back next time I'm in the area. Great location and set up, delicious equal exchange fair trade coffee and tea. You are welcomed and warm when you arrive and the space is set up beautifully. The staff are exceptional and the atmosphere is artsy yet not portentous. There are great crafty cards to buy and other great local art. Also there is parking validation for the nearest lot for 2 hrs so if you need a great place to meet up but dread paying for parking this helps! read more

Totally unwelcoming! I visited this cafe for the first time yesterday morning. I followed a few other customers in. As the came in and approached the counter, the man and woman working the counter greeted the other customers warmly. When it was my turn, the staff talked to each other while making the items for the other guests. I waited patiently. The woman took my order after waiting about 5 mins. As I waited everyone including others that came in after me got their food. The gentleman behind the counter gossiped and chatted with the other woman. Never saying, you food will be coming up shortly or anything. Finally, I see toast pop up. It has to be mine because everyone else has been served. The man kept chatting and chatting and chatting. I had to point out to him that my toast was ready. He ROLLED his eyes at me and slowly walked over to prepare my food. He slowly prepared it and then placed it on the counter near me with a look of disgust on his face and walked away. I'm still not sure what I did to deserve such awful customer service. Maybe this guy has a thing against people of color. That was the only difference I could see between me and the other customers. I'm not trying to figure it out. I will never be back. I told the hotel that recommended me to eat here about my experience also. read more

Whenever I have a morning meeting downtown, I always make it a point to stop and pick up a cup. They have more than adequate espresso and make a pretty decent Americano. This place a casual coffee shop vibe more than a cafe vibe, but that's ok. I've been here a few times and I've never left disappointed. My only piece of advice (and the reason for four stars, not five) is that if you see a line of any length at this place, just walk on by and come back when you've got more time. I have spent upwards of 15 minutes to receive an order. They always seem to have 2 or 3 people working behind the counter, but it appears that they aren't particularly good at getting out orders quickly. I'm not trying to be nit picky. I really enjoy this place a lot and will continue to patronize them, but I just know that if I am in a rush and I can't just walk up to the counter, I need to skip the Small Point and get my joe fix elsewhere... read more

As a newbie to Providence, I was happy to find this little gem. Not only is the staff super nice, but the food and overall atmosphere is great. I totally recommend the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Delicious! Really cute spot downtown. Really strong and really delicious ( but pricey) coffee. I also ordered an everything bagel with butter on the side, which instead, they gave me butter, with an everything bagel on the side. Just how I like it! When I went it was so packed I had to wait for someone to leave to sit down. It seemed to be a really small space, maybe because it was full. I was snuggled right in between 2 tables and we could all hear each others conversations-even at a whisper. Very comfortable atmosphere but little space to enjoy serenity. The people on the right of me seemed to be studying and it was awkward trying to have casual conversation next to them. With the location being downtown, it is tough to find parking. Seems to be a better idea to visit if you live or work in the area. read more
