I placed an order using the website for Smallcakes Medallion. I ordered six cupcakes for $27. I received a text from the owner saying the pickup location had changed due to rent increases. She gave me her home address since she was using her second garage as her pickup location. When I picked up my order, it had six mini cupcakes-basically two bites. I could have bought them for $5.00 at Walmart. I wonder if the health inspector is aware of this garage pickup location? Does she have a license to operate a business in a residential neighborhood? We placed a new cupcake order at Smallcakes in McKinney. You can see the difference in the picture . I also included the pictures the owner sent me to find my order in her garage. I stopped by on a weekend day and asked for recommendations to satisfy my little ones (4 and 2) sweet teeth. The woman behind the counter was happy to help. I came in on a Sunday afternoon to get two dozen cupcakes for an event. I had never been in before, and selected it because I had a hard time finding another bakery open on Sunday. The server greeted me warmly and was very helpful in answering my questions. They had an astounding array of cupcakes - 16 different flavors. I had planned on handing the cupcakes out to individuals at my event. I mentioned this to the server, and she offered to box up each individual cupcake and write the flavor on top. Plenty of parking and easy to find! Walking in, they have available cupcake flavors on display. So I tried a new cupcake place today, and it was everything I could've hoped for! Smallcakes is located in a shopping center where there is plenty of parking. I found it on Yelp by searching sweets while shopping nearby. They offer a variety of treats to satisfy any sweet tooth - homemade ice cream, cupcakes, shakes, iced brownies and boba tea! I selected the red velvet, wedding cake and coconut cupcakes. I also splurged on a brownie frosted in white buttercream and a mango black tea. The cupcakes were super moist and the frosting tasted perfect - not too sweet. They were all really good, but the coconut one was freaking delicious. The mango fruit tea was also really good. I'd bought cupcakes in the past to bring over to a cookout, and once for my dessert contribution to Thanksgiving. The turkey designs were a big hit. Very cute, but I would have liked to see more cream on the inside. The Birthday Cake was my favorite of the two and I would order it again. The vanilla bean cake was very good and high quality. The buttercream frosting topped with a mountain of rainbow sprinkles was quite literally the icing on the cake. I do prefer a more home-made tasting buttercream without the artificial, hyper-sweet after-taste. The cupcakes were $3.75 each, so definitely on the pricier side. As far as cupcakes go, I'm an easy gal to please as long as you have moist cakes and an alternative to chocolate. I got the wedding cake and was very pleased. The size of the cupcake was jumbo in comparison to the mini ones that are standard in DC. I loved the almond flavor of the cake but what I loved most is that it wasn't dry. I usually remove about 40% of frosting from most cupcakes because I'm all about the cake itself. I had to remove about 50% of the frosting on this one because there was a ton! Even though there was a lot of frosting, the frosting was light and fluffy the way old fashioned frosting should be. After eating one cupcake here, I was stuffed! Definitely a good bargain and will quench your sweet tooth read more
