When i arrived I found a boneless beef shoulder which had been expired on 10/08/2025 When I asked the meat department if I could get a discount on the product that was on the floor for over 4 days after expiration? Management REFUSED AND WAS RUDE ABOUT IT. MIND YOU THE MEAT DEPARTMENT had SAID THEY put the WRONG LABEL ON IT. But it's expired???? I'm sorry how does someone mess that up? I asked if I could speak to a manager about it so I went to the front. Now I find that to be very DISTURBING because from what it sounds like they are removing labels and putting on new labels with a new expiration date. That's gross and disgusting. Now mind you I've been in the food industry for over 20 years and I know about expired meats and IF AND WHEN it's okay to cook something right away. ITS ONE THING TO SELL When the manager finally arrived she was incredibly rude and I had told her the manager before had previously sold me expired meats in the past and wasn't a problem. She kept asking for their name and I told her I didn't know. I said you're not wearing any name tags. I don't know you or the cashiers name. She kept being very rude and her TONE was not what a manager should be. Terrible customer service I told her you would have sold it to me if I didn't say anything so what's the difference? Her respond was well you would have just returned it anyways. Store manager who was a women in her 30's maybe gets a F on customer service. She offered no ways to help me out and no solutions. Just straight rude and disrespectful coming from her. She just argued with me about it the entire time. The main thing is the meat department saying they put the wrong label on it and it still sitting there for 4 days after expiration??? Sounds very shady to me almost like they are saving expired meats to see if it's sells a day or two later So what's going on to happen with that piece of meat? They going to slap a new label on it and put it back on the shelf? Because that's what it sounded like from the meat department when I asked them about it! SHADY AF!!! I am disabled and I went to the store on December 15, 2024 at 3:40 PM. Smart and final had no cart and when I walked up to the counter where they had one of the carts sitting with the clothes sign on it, I took the thing off and I was gonna take the cart and put the sign back and one of the tenants or should I say one of them Employees got very very rude with me and told me that I can't do that. I am really upset and I don't know if I wanna go shopping at the store anymore after that they're rude. They don't have anybody doing their shopping carts. There's no shopping carts out in front whatsoever. They don't have anybody doing the shopping carts so you have to go look for a shopping cart if you need one. Smart & Final (Mason @ Sherman Way): Convenient location. But the driveway into the parking lot on Sherman Way is exceptionally hard to spot & easy to miss, especially when being tailgated by people who think you're going to turn right on Mason. The lot itself is big. Because there are no tire stops in the spaces, it can be chaotic with drivers cutting across lanes/spaces, loose carts blocking open spaces, & poor parkers taking more than 1 space. Like many markets now, there's 1 door for entry & 1 for exit. Frequently, there are no carts available at the entrance because they're either in use or still in the parking lot, loose, or in the racks. Better to grab yours from the lot. They're big and mostly not wobbly. The market interior is voluminous. The aisles are sufficiently wide, though sometimes there are displays that become chokepoints for customers going in opposite directions. As expected for a full size supermarket, the product selection is far superior to the specialty & outlet groceries in the area. But note that there is no butcher or deli counter. Prices are generally still slightly lower than other nearby full size supermarkets. Store brands have come a long way. I especially like Smart & Final's "First Street." The 3lb roasted chicken is a favorite. $8.99 for 3 days of good eating for a single like me! The 1 unhelpful worker I met seemed to think that distilled water (out of stock) is something snooty or exotic. He kept pointing me toward purified water, which isn't suitable for ironing or Keurigs. Then he told me to go to stores on Ventura Blvd (a more upscale area). No other unhelpful or grumpy employees have been encountered. read more

There customers service here can use some extreme reinforcement. I wanted to get some help reaching something from on top of the fridges and no help was given. I asked one of the cashier's working and he basically ignored me. I asked another employee and she proceeded to walk around THREE TIMES and even didn't bring a latter to help. I was at this Smart and Final yesterday at about 3pm and when I got in line the cashier named Kimberly completely ignored me. Didn't say hi, didn't acknowledge my existence. I thought to myself well she's in a bad mood and I will just let her ring me up and get the heck out of here. She was ringing me up in a way were she wanted me to know she was in a bad mood and wasn't that pleasant with my items, but I thought as long as she doesn't smoosh my bread I can put up with her. Then she grabs my bag of peaches abruptly and all the peaches fall on the floor. Instead of apologizing or asking me if I still want them she proceeds to pick them up off the floor and put them in my bag. That's when I told her I didn't want the peaches anymore and she became unhinged with even a bigger attitude then she already had. I felt so uncomfortable that I finally said look you don't have to have an attitude with me just because I don't want the peach you dropped on the floor. She starts raising her voice and telling me well it's not my fault they fell on the floor. I told her I didn't even blame you for it I just don't want peaches that have fallen on the floor but actually YES is her fault they fell I know I didn't drop them and if she didn't have such a bad attitude while she was checking out my items she might not have dropped them. I told her she was rude then she told me no your rude I said I'm rude for not wanting the peaches you dropped on the floor. Then she starts arguing with me calling me a bitch and absolutely no manager intervenes or tries to put a stop to this whole thing. I went home and called Smart and Final to report her and a girl that sounded just like the girl I got into the argument with answers the phone and then puts me on hold and then hangs up on me. This is one of the smaller smart and finals in the area. It is not as nice and spacious and well maintained as the other ones, but it is still stocked pretty well, and the staff is generally nice. It's a little bit older, and looks less clean, and there is usually a wait. Other than that, good shopping experience. Produce is always fresh and plentiful. read more

Broken scale even with nothing on the scale it was still off. Weighed two different papayas and they ranged in weight by the scale from 3lbs to 9lbs what a joke. Told my cashier and she said that it's a constant complain and it's always broken. Disappointing, why not get a new and modern digital scale? Duuuuuude.... There is some really scary wilted and moldy produce here. If they have produce that is green and covered in white mold spots for all to see then I can only imagine how clean everything else is?!? So many moldy peppers, moldy berries, wilted leaves, soggy floppy cucumbers and completely green and white molded yucca root. I had to just change what I was going to make because almost all of their produce was moldy/ inedible. I really hope this cruddy produce selection doesn't have to do with I.C.E. kicking field workers out leaving us with less workers to pick fresh produce or perhaps the crap trade import deals we now have also possible influencing poor produce selection, but either way... if it's moldy and can make you sick, don't sell it, geez! It's better to have no produce section then an almost entirely moldy one because that means the mold spores are going everywhere.... There were plenty of staff working at this store and if I see all that mold easily with out looking for it then they should see it too.... read more

My sister and I had to find a grocery store with a potato masher on Thanksgiving day at 2pm. Thankfully, Smart & Final was open. The store was fairly busy with people buying last minute items. There were four cashiers on hand, so the lines kept moving. My husband and brother-in-law tried two Vons stores and a Ralph's, and they couldn't find a potato masher my mom desperately needed for her Alton Brown garlic mashed potatoes. It hit me that Smart & Final might have the utensil, and I was right. We secured the potato masher for under $5. Basically, Smart & Final saved Thanksgiving! If you don't have a Costco membership, or you don't need 20 rolls of toilet paper but still need it in bulk, Smart & Final is your place. read more

My review is based strictly on my experience the day I went. It was Monday, and the first day LAUSD schools closed during the Covid 19 virus. The store was limiting the amount of people in at a time. There was a long line out front of people waiting to get in. The meat section was bare with the exception of some large slabs of beef. I selected one of the slabs that cost about $56.00. I selected a bunch of other items throughout the store and went to the register to check out. As Iris, the cashier, scanned my items, I would bag them and put them in my cart. She finished scanning and came over to my cart to scan it with that gun thingy. I noticed she was looking at my big slab of beef in my cart. She didn't say anything though. There was one item that she couldn't scan because she didn't have the weight for that item and she kept calling for someone to come weigh it. I told it was okay, I didn't really need it and I didn't want to hold up the long line at the register. She insisted I should wait. I agreed and waited about 3 minutes. I paid for that item and left. I get to my car and hear Iris coming after me. She reaches my car and accuses me of not paying for that big slab of beef. I told her I did pay for it and she said that she never scanned the item. I told her that I did not steal this giant slab of beef. How would I have concealed it? She asked for my receipt and she looked it over and said I did not pay for it and I needed to accompany her into the store. I objected and said I wasn't going anywhere with her because she just embarrassed the shit out of me in front of all those people waiting to get into the store. Not to mention the people in the parking lot putting their groceries into the car. She took the big slab of beef and went back into the store. I don't think I have been so embarrassed in all my life. As soon as I got into my car I started crying. I couldn't believe this woman thought I just tried to steal a half of a cow. It was unbelievable. I drove out of the parking lot and pulled over so that I could look at the receipt myself. I could NOT believe my eyes. There it was plain as day, 17.60 lb.@ $3.19/lb Choice Bnls Bf Brskt. $56.14. I turned around and drove to the front of the store and banged on the door. I noticed I was so unset that my hands were shaking. I showed the manager my receipt. Iris walked up with my slab of beef and I snatched it out of her hands and left. I was balling my out eyes out. This really upset me. read more

This location opened as a Smart & Final Superstore. It is the reincarnation of a regular S&F. During the move from nearby (Corbin and Sherman Way) it moved up one level of life-form. I suppose one's expectations dicate one's response. I'm struggling between 2 and 3 stars. I guess I'll settle at 3 for the reason I'll tell you in a later paragraph. This locationis more of a regular grocery store than it is a bulk restaurant supply store. Given the neighborhood they have tailored their offerings more toward the Hispanic community, yet have not ignore the rest of us. In terms of the traditional bulk restaurant supplies... they have been minimized to the point that I'd rather seek out a S&F that is NOT a "superstore". On a recent visit I was struggling to understand the pricing in the meat case. Pork shoulder seemed to be marked at two different prices. So I picked around to find the size and price that I liked best. Similar with ground beef, except I think there were three different prices. Some fo the difference seemed consistent with the lean-ness of the ground beef, but within the 80% selection I noticed two different prices. The sell-by dates seemd similar enough so I really don't quite know what to make of it. Suggestion: pick through the case and look for the best price! One of the hidden secrets to the meat case is the meatmen. If one can't find what they are looking for, the meatman can and will. They did it for me, and I've seen them do it for others. The meatmen all seem quite nice and willing to get meat from "the back" upon request. The alone desrve one of the rating stars! read more

Customer Service. That is what should be first on the list of training. No "greeting." "Thank you." "Have a great day." Just "here's your receipt." So sad and frustrating when they use to have AMAZING customer service not so long ago. And PLEASE properly train your cashiers as to how to do a return. I had to tell the kid behind the register 3 times how to do what I expected. He called the "manager", yet another kid. He couldn't figure out how to process my return that I bought less than 20 minutes prior. Finally, they called the Assistant Manager. A young female who stepped in, asked me if cash back was ok and I'm looking at them like "Why Yes. Why didn't I think of that?!?!" This S&F is going down the drain. I've been conveniently utilizing Smart & Final's home delivery service for about a month now and I'm totally satisfied with the service. I have a very busy work schedule with lots of road commuting and my weekends are almost always packed with house chore duties and family visits so having the convenience of shopping from my mobile device is great. I've placed orders at home/work and schedule delivery to my convenience. The produce ordered is always fresh and the soonest you can expect your groceries delivered is within 2 hours. The younger staff members bring with them the general attitude of young people, but the older staff are all great! Don't feel shy asking for help finding something.
