Good selection of produce and meat. I don't eat dairy so I couldn't really say anything there. I like the people who work here, very friendly and a good attitude! I'm pretty picky about my ginger and peppers, they haven't let me down there! Sadly I didn't get the young ladies name who was the manager, but you'll know her; she was just GREAT! They say it is a good sign when there is a long line of people waiting in front of the store. Never went to this store until the pandemic made me switch playing doubles tennis from Las Palmas Park to Cuesta Park. Used to buy salmon here when on sale at $5.99 a pound, but now go to Lucky for their salmon. $9.99 a pound not competitive. Today picked up 98 cents a lb Fuji apples, but skipped the $3.99 for a 3 lb bag of Cara Cara navel oranges, as the golf sized fruit were soft and too small, compared to the $1.49 a lb Cara Cara at Sprouts. Nonfat milk $2.49 a gallon, and 99 cents for a head of lettuce are a good deal. They had eggs for 99 cents a dozen, but you need to purchase $25 to get it. They have a cart near the rear of the store with discounted fruits, pastries, including Asian pears. Once, wife got a $2.49 full loaf of King Hawaiian bread, discounted from $4.99. Some things are pricey: $4.95 for a KN95 mask, or $1.49 for a disposable paper mask. We used to eat the $3.99 First Street Hash brown patties for weekend breakfast, but haven't seen them in months. Came here every Tuesday and Thursday morning after tennis to pick up discounted cut up fruit with best by dates the current date. 92 ounces of peeled and cut up winter melon, watermelon, cantaloupe and grapes discounted from $10.99 to $5.25. Once got two containers of them, and had to eat them up in 72 hours before they went bad. Had no problems with constipation! Toilet paper shortage, what toilet paper shortage? Stacks of containers of 45 rolls of 2-ply toilet paper of 429 sheets for $27.99. Not for people like Yelp Val Y of Honolulu, who need 3-ply toilet paper! Now that Sprouts has joined Safeway and Lucky with self check out, S&F remains with Grocery Outlet as the only supermarkets without self check outs stands. Here you have to walk all the way across to the far end of the store to line up in a single line for check out stands. And no express lanes. Better hope you don't end up behind someone with a full cart of groceries. Parked in front of the closed Burger King outlet in front of the store, and got bombed with droppings from the birds on the roof of the BK. Today, I got even as a bulldozer reduced BK to rubble! Oh, and that line of waiting people in front of the store? That was for the next door Japanese market Nijiya 10am weekday opening! read more

I shop at website on 8/23/2024. I order bottle water and soda for work. My order suppose $200+ (fair for delivery charge) and I only got soda delivery around $25 (not fair for delivery charge) They still charge $9.99 deliver fee and I also pay $5 tip. They always can contact by phone at work to give a choice to cancel order. Bad shopping experience. Means as a customer you either need to have your phone on hand all time to respond or you have to prepare to over paid your delivery charge. I actually love coming to this Smart and Final due to the amazing deals, but my last trip wasn't the greatest. The STORE MANAGER, Vannessa Acosta, was extremely rude towards the customers AND employees. Her unprofessionalism towards situations is crazy to me how she's even in charge, some people can really ruin an amazing store which sucks and I really hope there's some self reflecting on why people feel the need to make other people's days harder than what it needs to be. Most Smart and Final locations are fairly clean, but this specific one goes above and beyond by not only keeping their walkways clear and uncluttered but by also properly stocking and facing sale items. You can always find great deals here, but you are more than likely going to spend more than a standard grocery store for smaller items, although if you buy in bulk or need a variety then they definitely can take care of you. read more

Really helpful staff and great prices! I've called in a couple times to check on pricing and availability of some products since not everything is listed online, and every time I've called, the associates would personally go find th products I was asking about and get back to me. Even when I was at the store looking for something that was 5 aisles down, the person I asked directions from actually accompanied me to the spot and helped me find what I needed. And as always, prices here are great. Typically lowest in the area other than a few items at Trader Joe's and the bulk section at Whole Foods. Good selection of groceries for a fair price. The aisles are a tad bit confusing as I had the most difficult time finding canned soups. I honestly would've expected better deals than a regular grocery store (I'm comparing this to Market Baskets back home in Massachusetts), but overall this is a fairly convenient spot for a quick grocery run. read more

I went this morning to try and pick something up quick. There were 16 people in line, four had overflowing carts, and they had only two registers own. I give up. New manager should be fired! I used to really like this place. Friendly employees and good management. Lately they've started to cut back on services. Mainly at checkout where they hide a single line through the secluded beer isle and down end isle at frozen food. No shoppers can see this queue which is normally 12-15 persons deep. When you finally turn the corner and can view the registers, there's usually only Ione or two open for the massive line. Safeway has many shortcomings, but at least the open more registers if there are more than three waiting. They would never have 10 plus people waiting for One checker, as has become the norm at smart and final. I want to get in and out ASAP. read more

I love this place so much. This used to be my regular supermarket until I moved out of the area. Now I drive an hour to Mountain View at least once a month to stock up. They have Costco quantities without the membership or homicidal customers. There are Smart & Finals closer to me, but the others don't have the same selection and definitely don't have as much fresh produce. Also, since I think they cater to small restaurants, they sell a lot of products you can't find in a standard supermarket, including ethnic foods. I have discovered so many strange products I never would have found otherwise. And even though I am usually stocking up on staples on my S&F trips and buy about 50% more stuff, I always wind up spending $100-150 less than my regular grocery trips to Safeway, Nob Hill or similar. read more

The atmosphere is kinda... dingy? Anyways, I've been searching for a place to buy whole packer briskets for barbecue. Smart & Final seems to be the only store in the area that sells whole packer briskets for a reasonable price. (Costco only sells brisket flats, other places cost 2-3 times as much). Therefore, due to a lack of any real competition, Smart & Final gets my approval. (Although I do wish there was a nicer place to buy briskets). read more

There are lots of good things about this store: friendly staff, good dairy products , some good produce, and good selection of bulk products. But be aware of rotten fruits, especially those that is hard to see inside (packaged or not). I have been purchasing strawberries and blueberries several times when the whole package would go straight into my compost. Same happened with water melon and melon, and sometimes with avocado and mango. It must be a problem with S&F storage facilities. It's awful! When I brought it up to the store manager she told me: Bring it back! We will reimburse you. This is not the point: I count on something when I buy it! I am not in the business of running back to the store every time it's bad. Fresh salmon fillets also became somewhat problematic. Last couple of times I bought it and it had a strange smell (although the expiration date was good). It is very disappointing to say at least. And please bring back one line to all cashiers (the Covid way): there is no room in the store for separate lines to each cashier. read more

It's not often that you may cook and entertain 400 people but if you do this place has certain things you don't find in most stores, like a stockpot that you could fit several small children in. Lot's of industrial type cooking/cleaning supplies, bulk food, party items and placeware. Wow, Smart & Final has had a huge makeover over the past year, now it is S&F 'Extra' has a great variety of organic produce at reasonable prices. Disregard reviews prior to 2018 as it was a completely different store and had a restaurant supply vibe. The store has had an extensive remodel and has expanded its footprint and offerings. Recently stopped in to pick up organic carrots, same brand significantly less at S&F than exact same item at Nob Hill. We still patronize TJs but S&F is now one of our go-to grocery stores. read more

I was just at this Smart&final a couple of days ago for my first time. This has been the best store I've ever been to. I loved the way i was treated by the supervisor Melissa. That young lady treated me with a lot of respect and helped me find the items i needed. I asked questions and she had the answer to every single question. I have never been treated this nice at any grocery store my whole life. That girl deserves a higher position. Went to this Mountain View smart&final store bought some grocery, total was only around $20, but shocked and found out from account got overcharged to $152. Quickly went back to store, once I got back to the store, waited for long, finally got someone to seek for help asking why i got overcharged to $152 for the items I bought because I remembered I did not make over$152 worth of purchases. A woman, she claimed she is the store manager, PAOLA, made me waited for long again, after checked, she found out the cashier made mistake by charging other customer's purchases to my account. THEN WITHOUT APOLOGIZING FOR THE MISTAKE THE EMPLOYEE MADE TO OVERCHARGED ME, INSTEAD THE MANAGER, PAOLA, WAS VERY, VERY RUDE TO ME, YELLED AT ME, ASKED ME TO SHUT UP WHEN I ASKED, and EMBARRASSED ME IN FRONT OF OTHER PEOPLE! Although in the end she refunded me, but still made mistake again for the refund later she took off mask, and still kept on arguing with me, then she lied for the things I didn't buy and denied to refund back. The manager, Paola, is not qualified as a manager, no manner, rude attitude , no responsibility when assisting and resolving issues with customers. A solidly useful quirky hybrid of supermarket, restaurant-supply, and warehouse-style store. Next door is the local Nijiya Market -- so quality Asian groceries are available too, in one stop. With PLENTY of parking -- it's in an older sprawling eclectic commercial complex. Smart & Final stores are basically restaurant-supply shops with expanded grocery inventory, promoted to the general public. If you've ever dealt with restaurant suppliers, you'll recognize the restaurant cookware, steam-table supplies, take-out food containers of countless types, and commercial-kitchen shortcut ingredients like broth bases in large containers. There are also groceries in institutional sizes such as #10 cans. (Need a gallon-ish can of nacho cheese sauce?) I often see local restaurant and institutional cooks shopping there (even, formerly, a local chef whose current world-famous destination restaurant in the North Bay has three Michelin stars). S&F also offers staple groceries (pastas, rices, canned food, produce) priced cheaper than supermarkets, with sales advertised in weekly flyers. This makes S&F handy for value shoppers -- especially shoppers who also find some of the institutional merchandise useful. (For example, I get their generic cleaning supplies in gallon jugs, and freeze cooked food in their takeout tubs vastly cheaper than Rubbermaid's supermarket versions.) And it's MUCH quicker in and out than Costco (a point stressed in S&F's advertising). Apparently, (a) many writing here on Yelp don't know most of that, appraising S&F as if it were a Safeway or Nob Hill; and (b) the percentage of Smart & Final shoppers posting on Yelp is nearly zero. (More customers were inside on a recent mid-day visit than the total count of Yelp reviews accumulated here over the years.) Being so thinly reviewed, its Yelp averages are pretty meaningless, skewed by unrepresentative reviews judging the whole business from some random experience of an employee on a bad day who left years ago. I have seen signs (example, smoked salmon & block cheeses) with sales signs saying "new low price" when actually the prices were much higher....no sale! This is the place to go as all the times ive been there, social distance is the spot to be. Semi empty and people are cautiously about spreading out and its a plus. Im giving this place a 1 star is because of the lady at cash register 1 (the 1st register where the screen is at telling you about the next register available). I was there yesterday at 4ish p.m. You will get terrible terrible service if you are a female. Treats you like if you are an object. Could care less if you found things in the store and doesn't bother to waste any customer service with you... BUT!!!! If you are a male, she is soo nice to them. I sometimes come here after going to the one in Sunnyvale and find they are out of something like a brisket or lump charcoal. It appears to be a smaller more cluttered store to navigate the isles with your pushcart and a very different clientele from the Sunnyvale Smart and Final crowd. Parking can be fun as they are right across from a Burger King which has a lot of traffic. As most Smart and Finals there seems to be only one or two deep in their stock so if Sunnyvale does not have it, a sort drive down 85 to this store which usually does. This shopping center can be a challenge to get in and out of as you have to cross El Camino and getting out you have to play frogger to cross the traffic to turn around on El Camino to go back north. This place works in a pinch, but not my primary go to sore. I miss the days when they had a larger selection of stock to chose from. I thought this place would be more like a Grocery Outlet (dirty, random), but it had a surprising amount of things. Having time to kill around here, I ended up inside and found it well organized, stocked and had a wide range of good stuff. I actually ended up buying lined paper for my students here at a good price. SCORE! Service was a lacking; I could tell the woman didn't really care. But would I in her position? Probably not. The employees have been extremely rude to my wife, who's Vietnamese, on a number of occasions, of which this is only the latest. She bought three cases of water and Fred (? old white guy) brought them out for her. He picked up the first case, lifted it high and *slammed* it down into the trunk of her new Mercedes, causing the car to rock back and forth. She asked him to load the remaining two more gently and he yelled at her, "Do it yourself, lady!" and stormed off. She walked back into the store and was told that the manager was unavailable. The clear message is that Asians aren't welcome at this store. She continues to go there, where she buys tons of drinks for the various gyms that she owns because, in spite of the horrendous "service", they have good prices. I've usually liked this store. And I've had 2 good deliveries. But today, a delivery did not arrive, despite the shopper having texted me that she was shopping 5 hours ago. Her call back number was bogus. I called Smart&Final. They said it's up to Shipt. But the online site where I ordered is S&F, as is the payee on my pending credit card charge ($180). So I won't be ordering from them again. And this is a warning to you, too. read more
