Service department is an absolute joke. They tell you one thing and then charge you on the back end, be careful.

When I moved into my home in 2021, I was not made aware that my WAPs needed a separate activation. A tech from Cox recently told me they aren't activated. I contacted SST since they were the ones who installed the system. They charged me $180 for a tech to come out to tell me he can't connect the system. So nothing was fixed, I still have dead spots in my house and I was charged $180. Seems like a scam. And the tech quoted me over $500 for new equipment. I should have just gone with the Cox extenders for $130 each. Absolutely horrible customer service! I do not recommend this company at all. Very unprofessional from the time I made the initial phone call until the end of the "service call". read more

Absolutely the worst company i have ever dealt with. Forced into using them when buying a new build. Didnt realize i was locked in if i didnt cancel within 3 days of closing, nevermind the fact that service wasnt active for those days. Asked for extra cameras they took a month to come by drill holes in my brand new walls in multiple spots and tell me sorry we cant do it. Missing window sensors they replaced with mismatched colors. "Sorry man thats all i got" I had to fix the garage camera cable it was falling down within a week. Drilled a spot for a second panel then realized i told them i didnt want that so they covered it up with a plastic cover. About a month after I get a bill. Called the guy i worked with and he said i didnt need to worry about it. Get emailed by somebody else to get me to sign a new agreement saying the new cameras arent covered and the other guy was mistaken. Charged me for the first year despite being told on the phone there would be no charge for the first year. When I questioned it their answer was "you signed the contract" yes that was on me i shouldnt have trusted them. Then I called to change my autopay info because apparently their website with all the functionality of a page from 2001 can't handle it. (It doesnt even have the correct email for support btw) I was told "oh you have to wait 3 hours for "Tina" to come in to make that change" i offhandedly made a comment about that and the fact i cant do it on the website in 2026 being a little ridiculous and was told i dont know what im talking about and "our website is wonderful" decided that was the last straw. Said i wanted to cancel. THEN suddenly somebody else could magically fix my autopay account. So they were just jerking me around again. Still canceled but due to their hyper aggressive contract i still ended up having to pay for the ENTIRE TERM of the contract. 1150 but you know what? Being free of this company that has outright refused to provide the basic modicum of customer service is worth that to me at this point. Oh and they do not tell you the amount it will cost to cancel until after its done. If you change your mind? $150 reactivation fee. Greed and subpar service. If your builder is trying to push this company on you fight it tooth and nail. Get your own service later. read more

Note: I am a customer in Cave Creek, AZ. SST was the provider that our home builder (Meritage/Monterey Homes) chose when we built our house 10 years ago. If I remember correctly we were not given a choice. They did all of the low voltage wiring and had the house wired for an advance home entertainment system. Like another reviewer here, they made it so that it would have been very difficult to use a different provider since none of the dozens of cables were labeled. So they installed our system. Almost from the beginning we had problems with the system, primarily through the Elan app that they used. It was really trash from day 1. We had several service calls the first couple of years and things would be a little better for a little while before the problems started again. Connection and functionality of the Elan controls and app to our system was bad and frustrating. (There was a very helpful technician that was dispatched for our service calls. He was always friendly and helpful, but he seemed to recognize that he was dealing with an ultimately poor service and product, even though he would not directly bad mouth SST). Eventually we decided to stop calling SST and just would utilize separate remotes for the disc player, Directv, Apple TV and the TV itself. Pain in the a**, but at least we didn't have to deal with the horrible Elan app or controller, which never worked anyway. AT some point, ELAN would no longer even download to my phone and I put in a call and email and never received a response. So they also wired our home security system (which has been fine), which utilizes the Alarm.com platform, but I recently wanted to upgrade and take advantage of all the new technology available since we built our home 10 years ago. Of course I would not even consider SST for this, plus I was able to receive a great deal as a AAA member. So now I need to cancel my existing service agreement through SST and of course, I cannot get through to customer service, which has been very poor ever since we've been associated with SST. I have called previously but had to hang up after remaining on hold with no answer for so long. Right now I was on hold for 20 minutes when someone answered. I explained what I needed but then the representative recognized that I was calling from AZ, not California, so he had to transfer me. Now 43 minutes later, still no one has picked up. Upside is that it has given me plenty of time to compose this review. Needless to say I cannot recommend AGAINST using SST strongly enough, at least here in AZ. SoCal subscribers and customers may have a different experience. But based on what we paid for our initial home wiring, security system and home entertainment system, and the service and performance we have received, this was about as bad of a value proposition you can imagine. Let me say some positives. They use the Alarm.com platform for their home security, which is the same company that AAA Smart Home Security uses, and the Alarm.com service and App seem very good. With new cameras and video doorbell, etc. I will get the opportunity to really utilize Alarm.com to a greater degree. Also, the music they are playing while I wait on hold (now 46 minutes) is not the same 20 sec clip of music on repeat, so there's that! Here's an edit / addendum: Still waiting on hold now for just over an hour. As it is now past 5 pm, I have to assume that no one is going to answer so... That's another hour of my life I have given to SST with nothing to show for it. read more

We continue to experience problems with the AV system that SST installed. They prescribed the system to furnish & install, but it doesn't seem that the system is not fully integrated. The BluRay player seems to cause the TV to switch over smoothly. It is maddening. We finish a DVD & then we have a hard time switching to normal TV. I could be wrong, but the Yamaha receiver doesn't take too well with the equipment that SST provided. We have their service technicians come in & help us, but it always seems to be a workaround solution. No bueno. I have a couple of other home improvement projects I want to get done first, but when they have been completed, I will go with a competent AV installer company to replace the system. read more

Just a difficult company to deal with over the smallest issues. You talk to multiple people when you call in, at least to your Tempe site. Was told i was to get back to within 24 hours which turned into a week after 4 phone calls. They wanted in insane service call fee which turned out to be a 20 second fix of syncing a remote. This reflects on my home builder as well as they had little to no information on this company of which they contract. Like a lot of other reviews I'm seeing here, I've been scammed by SST. The security system came with my new home built by Pulte. When the techs came to set up the system, we were told that the first year would be free, and if we didn't enjoy the services at the end of the year, we could cancel. 1 year later we started getting billed, but when I tried to cancel, I was told I was on the hook for 2 more years and over $1k. This was absolutely not how the tech explained things at all. He very clearly made it sound like the 1 free year would be like a trial run without a commitment. STAY AWAY. Even if your builder offers to set up your system for free, refuse it, it's not free. read more

Don't waste your money. They are scam artists. We paid to have our home pre-wired for 5.1. They leave the wiring so you are forced to hire them again to hook up your system. They don't label wires and make the wires so short you can't possible use them. They then charge you an "install" fee to hook up your receiver, which is something you should be able to do yourself if the pre-wiring was done properly. They label "install" on the contract so vaguely that they can make things up as to why you are being charged. I have now heard 3 different reasons why I am being charged $225. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the gentleman that came to our home was nice. Sales men are crooks. read more

Completely unprofessional. We had cameras installed a month ago and after a week the main camera went out. The tech they sent out clearly hated his job or life... or both but definitely did not have any interest in working or helping us. Not only did they not have a new camera to replace the "broken" one but there was no remedy made. How was it broken in the first place after a week of being installed? This company is extremely unprofessional and takes advantage of wounded military veterans. They are trying to strong arm me out of over $100 a year later for something I never asked for or agreed to. After pointing out that I never signed any agreement for this up Charge and do not feel it is fair to make me pay it, they have chosen to just ignore my calls and emails. I suggested they take their part back but they refuse. I fear it is only a mater of time before they send me to collections. Equipment is JUNK and Customer Service is AWFUL. The system is total junk. The SST box was installed in my new home July 2017. The original box could never connect to the Alarm.com network, so a technician (after multiple calls to customer service) eventually came out to my house last fall and replaced the unit. That unit only worked for a few months until it started sporadically spending out a loud ERRRRRPPPP every time it had difficulty connecting to the home network. Starting about two weeks ago (May 1, 2018) the loud ERRRRRPPPP sound starting happening more and more regularly. It was extremely loud and would wake up everyone in my house every time it couldn't connect to the network. No other device in my home had any other network connectivity issues. On May 5th and 6th, the system was going off every five minutes all day and all night. No one is my house could sleep because of the system. I called customer service on Sunday May 6th to request that the system be deactivated and my account be cancelled immediately. The person who answered the call said that "regular" customer service was only open Monday through Friday and that I would have to wait until then. An hour later, I received a call from an SST Technician who informed me that my home security box really worked much better if I had a landline phone. The Technician recommended removing the battery from then unit because NOTHING could be done remotely. When I lifted up on the control box, the entire unit came off the wall. Only by yanking out wires from the back of the unit did the CONSTANT ERRRRRPPPP sound finally stop. I told again told the technician that I needed the system be deactivated and my account be cancelled immediately. He did nothing. On May 7th, I received a voicemail from Dwayne in Customer Service (480-360-1733) indicating that he would love to discuss upgrading my service. For the entire Week of May 7th the system remain active and NOTHING was done. Today, May 14th, I called SST (both the 480-360-1733 and 480-966-3705) and spoke with three separate people who verified by address and my security passcode. All three told me that nothing could be done with my system remotely. One young lady suggested that I call the main SST office in California but they probably couldn't do anything either. Dwayne, one of the three that I spoke with, said he was the only one in Customer Service and there was nothing that he could do about the problems with the system. I was adamant that the service needed to deactivated and the account cancelled immediately. I was incredibly frustrating that NOTHING had been in during the preceding week and the total lack of care shown by the Customer Support. Furthermore, there was no apology to me or my family for the insufferable nuisance that the home SST system had become. The system is total junk. Very helpful on the placement of the wiring we had to do, all without "pushing" any products. I agree with Tyler's review (above/below). Bought a Ryland model home and was told to call SST for my audio and alarm system (SST system). First time I called (in the morning) I received a voice mail of someone (was it even the correct person?) where I was told to leave a name and number. Second time I received a name and number and was told "he was the the ONLY guy at SST that could help me". I asked when I would receive a return call, but, receptionist was unable to give me an answer. I asked if I could talk with someone else or a technician, but, was told again, "he was the the ONLY guy at SST that could help me"! After a good 3 or 4 hours I was tired of waiting and called another company in the early afternoon. They asked some questions over the phone and tried to help me troubleshoot. However, when this didn't work, they sent a technician. Technician arrived, troubleshot, and repaired all in the same day (yes the same day I called SST in the morning). This company understood that it was Friday and I wanted to get my issue addressed before the weekend if at all possible. At 4 pm (Friday) I finally receive a call from "the ONLY guy at SST that could help me". He honestly sounded like he was asleep, stoned, or thoroughly bored that he had to call me. I quickly explained that I already had my issue taken care of. He then enthusiastically says, "Oh. . . Ok. . . great! Hey, have a nice weekend!" I wish I didn't throw my note away of who "he" was. I do believe the system SST installed was professional and easy for a third-party to come in and assist. However, SST's customer service to the home owner is TERRIBLE! Good news is that if you have a SST installation, you can find someone else who understands what 'customer service' is all about and get you taken care of either over the phone or possibly a visit to your home the same day from a technician. read more

Tony arrived to help us set up our Brilliant smart home features including setting up a wifi booster so we have equal wifi upstairs and downstairs, set up our ring doorbell, Honeywell thermostat smart home features, my q garage features, and Kwikset door security features. He even helped us link all of the brilliant smart home features to Alexa. He was extremely knowledgeable and made the process go smooth and quickly while also educating us about how to get the most out of all the features. When we moved, we tried to cancel the old house and potentially even wanted them to quote a system for the new house, but they didn't respond and now I can't even get them to cancel the old house which is not even connected anymore. I am terribly unimpressed with SST. Poor quality, poor service. If you decide to use them, protect yourself. Record your conversation (s). We just built a new home and SST is so the builder, Richmond American subs low voltage to. At our design appointment we discussed at length what we wanted. That is a busy day with lots of choices to make regarding a new house. We just found that they did not run coax for cable TV to the bedrooms or power and coax to the patio. Ours sales guy missed so much of what we said on the final document. I did sign it, so I'm screwed, but with all we talked about, I assumed he was taking good notes. We got "upgrade package #3" which apparently only allows for 2 TVs? I had asked for cat 5 to be run in the eaves of the house. They landed nowhere near where I asked. Like I said, it's ultimately on me for trusting sales when I signed, but wouldn't you think a quality sales person would say "hey, I notice you're cabling for cox, dish and direct TV... Are you sure you only want TV in 2 rooms?" On the phone when explaining my perspective, he tried to tell me how good he is at his job, and when I disagreed, he wanted nothing to do with it. Yes, it's tough to hear the bad about yourself, especially when you have no desire to improve. Just my 2 cents, but if you're looking for services they provide, keep looking. There are plenty of companies that want and appreciate your business and will provide a much better experience. read more

BEWARE!!! I had pre wiring from the builder of my home and opted in for the 1 year of a SST monitoring services (which is not free, the first year, it's $18 a month to pay for the parts, depending the equipment you have installed. I just had the keypad and a motion detector). All of their other equipment was ridiculously expensive! I wasn't satisfied within the first couple of months. The first issue was, I would enter in the code on the home keypad and the alarm wouldn't turn off. Could have been fat fingered on my part but this happens quite often. I also bought a stylus and it continued to happen. Second issue was, I wasn't home and I received a burglary alarm. I received an email alert as well as SST called my cell and alerted me. I told them I wasn't home and I wanted them to call the police. I waited for over an hour near by and noone showed up! I went in and checked my house and there were no signs of an intruder. I called SST and they had no answers why the alarm went off. I asked how much to cancel my services and they stated I had just over $1,000 before I could cancel. Outraged, I waited for the year to end to cancel. I just hit my year mark and was told it is a 3 year contact. And I have 2 more to go, for a total of $1,079.76 ($44.99/mo)!!! I told the tech the issues I had and told him I don't feel secure with the issues I've been having and all the tech could say was, "you should have read the contract". Never Again Will I do business with Smart Systems Technologies Incorporated (SST). read more

Absolutely one if the worst businesses I've ever dealt with. It took multiple visits by the installers because they did not have the right equipment or enough equipment each time they cam out. I received incorrect information the capabilty of the security camera that were installed. When I called to upgrade my cameras, i was put in touch with the Sales Rep "Brook" whose voice mail meassage says "I mayyyy call you back"... then does not. This is the compNy my builder LB Homes used. The service is atrocious... if you can avoid doing busineess with these guys... you should! read more

SST seems to do most of the wiring for new home builds, which from my experience they do a good job. The problem is the services they provide after you move in, such as alarm services. They outsource their alarm monitoring and servicing to alarm.com which is a hit and miss. Sometimes, it'll arm, sometimes it won't. However, the bigger issue is the lack of support from the company. It appears it's only 2 or 3 guys that handle support for the entire company. I can go days without hearing back from them. We ended up leaving and going back to ADT. read more

I love time travel movies and stories and this one begins in the Fall of 2007. I had finally escaped the over-rated, overly brown, overly boring Boise, ID. (Don't believe the hype about Boise unless you have kids you want to raise in the middle of nowhere with no stimulation at all (and I'm originally from Montana). Anyway, 2007, I land back in the Valley of the Sun vowing never to leave again. The Princess picked out a new build in Stetson Valley, Pulte was the builder. The home is lovely and one of the upgrades I went with was to have the patio (next to the aqua-green, ultra refreshing in the summer, pool) wired for outdoor speakers. Now, when you're a time travel fan, time itself tends to fly by and I finally got around to buying the high end amp and speakers for the patio (and the surround sound in the great room for, yes, Time Travel movies). The surround sound was easy to install, as were the speakers outside. However, I couldn't find the wires to hook up to get the outside speakers to work. So I endured one more summer by the pool with the boom box The Princess brought to the marriage in 2001 and given that it sports a cassette player, it may be of a 1980's vintage. Ok, here is it, Spring of 2014 and we're going to make this work! Called Pulte and they weren't able to send over the wiring diagram to help diagnose the issue. They suggested I call SST, which I did. Wonderful experience with Ashely as she jumped through a number of hoops (non-time travel), went to the trouble of researching the issue and called me back with a solution. Needless to say, the patio is rocking' today. It's going to be a great summer and I can thank the fine people at SST for taking a moment out of their day to help. In all seriousness, it's great to have business like this here in Phoenix! read more

We have had SST monitor our system for almost 3 years. When we tried to cancel the service since we no longer needed it the problems began. We sent a letter to cancel the service in writing as they requested. We continued to receive bills for the next two months. We called to try to confirm the cancellation after the two additional billings and got nowhere. We were transferred 6 times on one call - between billing, customer service, etc. in both California and Arizona (our service is in AZ). Finally I asked for a supervisor, who was busy at the moment, but the person said they would give a detailed message to the supervisor who would call me back. Well you guessed it - no call back!! Very frustrating. Our experience with the competition while living in another state was much better. read more
