I have never been to Smashburger until the other day. I've always heard people give mixed reviews about the place, but I don't like to let other people's opinions influence my own. The building was very clean and didn't offer indoor seating because of Covid regulations, but I could see the inside being a decent atmosphere to eat in. They do have patio seating which is nice if you don't want to do takeout. Staff wasn't exceptional, but they weren't horrible either. My rating comes down primarily to the food itself. As I had never been there before, I went with the Classic Smash burger with a side of their fries. It's hard to mess up fries I've noticed. They weren't bad, but they certainly weren't great when compared to some of their competitors. The burger however was on the same tier as the fries. It was edible, but I really wouldn't come back for it. The meat isn't seasoned very well so it lacked some flavor. To me, It's a place I would never crave or go back to on my own. But if friends or family wanted to go here, I might pick something up because I'm already there and didn't hate it. Well the management team member was rude and standoffish. We asked for a refund and would have expected that the establishment would have reached out in regards to certain items not available if that was the case, turns out the cook admitted to the manager that he or she had forgotten to add almost all of the added toppings we paid for and still never removed the prices items or explained at pick up and charged full price as if we would not have noticed or cared. She then proceeds to tell us that we cannot receive a refund for an online order over the phone regardless of the card info being available, I then had to go in person because she stated it would have to be a cash refund, and so I went. Once there she then tells me if I have the receipt and card. At this I am confused I just left my house and was told I had to come in to get a cash refund only, only to find that she needed the card to make a refund? Could this not have been done over the phone or was it a lie? It was a little worrying after recieving a giftcard for Smash Burger to find out that two out of three of the locations in Placer County were closed, thus unavailable to go to. Luckily the Citrus Heights location was open, so my family and I went to try it out. Where to begin... tater tots and haystack onion rings were fine, the smash fries (with rosemary, garlic and olive oil) taste about the same as normal fries - just more expensive. The burgers tasted fine, but the menu is absolutely confusing. Ordered a "double" spicy baja sandwich, thinking I was going to get double chicken patties for $8.50. Turns out that the "double" patties of anything refers only to ordering a "burger", not a "chicken" - which is absolutely ridiculous. Cashier didn't bother to speak up when I said double-pattied chicken sandwich... so I got charged $8.50 for a "single-pattied sandwich" instead of $8.50 for a "double-pattied burger". The food was overall mediocre, and I would never spend $6 on a small milkshake again. If you go online and just compare photos of their menu to the photos of my food, there's no comparison. Never going back again, giftcard spent; gonna go enjoy some In-N-Out, Squeeze-In or any other decent, affordable place. read more

This location (and the chain in general) has gone downhill. Food was always pretty greasy (compared to other burger places), but at least it was pretty well staffed and the menu options were good. But over the last several months they seem to be chronically understaffed, so wait times at the register are long, and the restaurant is usually untended (too often trash is left on tables for a long time). And now they've switched up the menu and got rid of their signature black bean burgers for some other more generic vegetarian option. read more

The smash fries were just covered in oil no rosemary or garlic and weird greens that for sure weren't rosemary. I don't plan on getting Smashburger ever again and if I do it definitely won't be from this location. I understand that times are tough right now and many businesses are short staffed, but I called ahead to place an order and was put on hold for 10 minutes. It felt like I was put on hold because they were hoping I would just hang up and not get food at all. The woman that placed me on hold said she was the only one there. So I hung up and drove there to order in person instead since I was only a couple of minutes away. And when I did, I immediately noticed 3 workers behind the counter then saw a few more. I told the woman I order to how I was placed on hold and forgotten about and she didn't even apologize for it. She also had to take a personal call on her iPhone in between customers ordering. They make the milkshakes too early so they melt and they don't fill them up all the way so they just top them off with more whipped cream. The sweet potato fries have good flavor but could use salt and they're too soggy. The bbq chicken sandwich is good but they barely put on any bbq sauce. It also makes no sense that where you order your food is also where they make the milkshakes because it's super loud and you're forced to yell your order. Considering how much I love eating burgers, "Smashburger" ranks only average to me. Reason being is because there are far better places than this. What comes to mind is The Habit, In-N-Out, Five Guys, and Fatburger; all better in my opinion than this place. I don't know if this is what customers routinely expect or if it was just an off day. But this place just didn't have that "wow" factor. Conveniently located in the heart of the Sunrise Marketplace on Sunrise Blvd. in Citrus Heights, this particular location opened its doors back in the spring of 2010. In an already crowded market, Smashburger's main competitors are Nation's and The Habit, all within a block away. I came here with my lovely lady on a Friday evening around 7:45pm. Considering there were other major eateries and retailers still open, parking was scarce as the lot itself just doesn't provide enough spaces for its customers. Once we walked in, business was thriving as there were several people in line in front of us as well as customers chowing away on their burgers. Once we got to the cashier, I decided on trying a small version of their "Spinach & Goat Cheese" burger. This comes complete with fresh baby spinach, crumbled goat cheese, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, and balsamic vinaigrette on a multi-grain bun. She decided on their standard small "Classic Smash" burger which comes with the usual toppings. We also opted for a regular side of their "Smash Fries" which are essential garlic fries that comes with rosemary and olive oil. And to complete our order, we get two fountain drinks. Total cost for everything including tax was around $17. Fortunately I had a $5.00 off coupon which dropped my total to around $12. Not a bad price considering they are more gourmet than your typical fast-food joint. We are given a number and patiently wait for our meals to arrive. As I was observing the orders being handed out, I saw a bit of a communication gap between the employees. I know it was busy but the customers that sat next to us also noticed this. My burger comes out first then hers arrives roughly 3 minutes later. For the price you pay (remember this would've been $17 without the coupon), the amount of food you get is not very filling. My burger tasted okay but the portion size was comparable to an In-N-Out cheeseburger, just dressed up with fancier condiments and toppings. And the Smash Fries were very thin; think of them as those Pik Nik shoestring potatoes but with added garlic and oil. I prefer my fries to be a thicker cut where they are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Overall, I left a little bit hungry and disappointed. I think the reason being is because I've been spoiled with far better burger chains that far top Smashburger. But everyone has a different opinion on their food preference. The good news is that they do offer 8 unique burgers, 7 types of chicken sandwiches, multiple salads, many different sides, hand-spun shakes, several beers to choose from, and a "create your own" burger. All in all, in this already crowded burger market, Smashburger was just average for me and very forgettable. read more

Went in and ordered 2 burgers to go. There was only one Person in line in front of me. The restaurant was dead. I Waited exactly 30 minutes for my order. There was about 5 online orders ahead of me and that one person in line that ordered before me. A total of 6 orders ahead of me and they took 30 minutes to get my food. I think that is just crazy. The employees here make me never want to return. This was m second and last visit. If you're not first in line to order get ready to wait 25 minutes for your food. I can put up with the overpriced burgers, but the kids moving at a snail's pace, wearing hoodies over their uniform and listening to music on their headphones, make the whole experience feel like I'm a burden for ordering--and encourages them he slow-moving service. The older lady at the counter was the only one bright spot--but she was the only one exerting any kind of effort, poor thing. And you were even worse on the phone when you demanded we were lying about missing a burger you hallucinated putting in the bag. I even added a 15% tip to the cashier. My friend also got a classic double. So about $21 later the results left much to be desired. The fries were really good so I gotta hand it to them for that. But the burger was WAY too salty. First off I will say I really liked the brussel sprouts with ranch, nice switch up for a side. But all sauces were very bland no seasoning ranch tasted bad.
