It's been a while since I went to a Smashburger. I got a BOGO coupon in my email and decided to head over. I ordered the NorCal burger that sounded really good with bacon and marinated balsamic tomatoes. Imo a "NorCal" or anything with the name California in it should have avocado in it, hands down. The food was medicore at best tbh. My burger tasted really bland for a gourmet burger and I'm pretty easy to please. It was supposed to have a "sourdough" bun, but looked like a regular white bun. My husband's burger was noticably smaller. Service was pretty good, but I'm sad to say the food has gone downhill. read more

So they only get a 2 for few reasons. Tonight we tried the Cod sandwich, which actually wasn't bad. Small but clean flavor. Not a lot to the sandwich, small single leaf and a couple of small tomatoes. That's it. Sparse. Now the big problem was the shake. No whipped cream means the cup, which isn't very big, comes with 1/4 of nothing. The waitress said it's all pre measured. I watched her make it and it didn't seem like she was measuring anything. The location is nice and clean. The service is well let's say they showed up. Duh! If you're in the mood for a really good shake, great fries to complement your burger this place is not it. Where do I start? $5.50 for a very mediocre 12 ounce bottle of beer, that's priceless I'm not sure how they can justify a price like that for a crappy burger place with zero ambiance and mediocre food. My husband and I placed a very simple order, he ordered a burger I ordered a chicken sandwich. The problem is that his hamburger 5 minutes after we placed the order and I got my chicken sandwich 15 minutes well after he was done eating. I asked the girl who delivered the food if it was common to deliver part of an order and then bring the rest so much later, she gave me a dirty look and ignored me. And to add insult to injury, the chicken sandwich was terribly overcooked and was delivered on a whole wheat bun that is reminiscent of sawdust. We went the night of the Super Bowl, after the game had ended. Was maybe about an hour before closing. Staff was friendly, got our order right, and it was hot and delicious! Very satisfied with the experience. The first (an now only) time I ordered from Smashburger, my burger was prepared incorrectly. It was specifically ordered WITHOUT onions and tomatoes and yet it came with them both. The lettuce (I think that's what it was) was wilted and disgusting looking. The bun was wilted looking and soggy. The burger looked like a left over McBopper that's been sitting for a while that nobody wanted. I should have taken a picture to post so people could draw their own conclusions, but I'm very confident anyone would have agreed with me. The food is overpriced. It's very sad how this location is ran. Smashburger is a very good burger, but this location is very poorly managed and the inexperience of the staff and cleanliness of the place show it. I actually came back three times, just to make sure it wasn't an off day for this location. I know there is a shortage in change, but I was given my change in nickels, because they didn't have other coins. I'm here waiting food now and I hear them shouting out the items they don't have to serve. And the food is coming out the kitchen very slow.....took me 18 minutes to get my food for dine in. I had a working lunch and we decided to do burgers. We ordered about six burgers through the doordash app but decided to pick it up instead since the app said an hour delivery. We had about four burgers in lettuce wraps which actually just came in bowls with the toppings which was ok. All the burgers were custome and actually done correctly. The burgers were all good and I especially enjoyed the brussel sprouts. The basic burger isnt bad at $4.99 but then it jumps way up for adding like two toppings. This is for the location on Sunrise and Pebble Beach in Citrus Heights. Went on Friday night and ordered 2 Turkey Burgers one the Colorado and the other an Avocado Club and an order of regular fries to go. Waited about 20 minutes which was no big deal. Got home to discover that we had one burger of some one else's and even though the ticket said the second one was a Turkey Colorado it was not, it was the Baja burger, this was not discovered until we got home the second time. We called and spoke to the manager, he was the one who answered the phone and was advised he would remake the order so we headed back out. Picked up replacement burgers and went home to enjoy. Wrong. Both were so slathered with Mayo we had to scrape it off.. the meat was so over salted we couldn't even taste turkey, BF could not even eat his. The fries were not fresh by any means and rubbery and that was discovered on our first time home. The only positive was the cashier and manager were very friendly and professional but we were hoping for good burgers and that did not materialize. Would not recommend. Side notes- really wish I'd read the Yelp reviews prior to going here and "Lexi" the supposed manager ain't doing her job cause it seems there is a consistent issue with quality and order accuracy. Came here for a PTO fundraiser for my son's elementary school. I had ordered online for pick-up because, you know, global pandemic and what not. There were a number of customers who did the same and we were all told the orders could not be applied to the fundraiser. Waiting 15 mins and seeing our burgers being done and in a bag waiting on fries with no communication between cooks and the handout person on what was needed. Smashburger has some of the best burgers and chicken sandwiches around. Unfortunately, their service and cleanliness of their Citrus Heights restaurant has gone straight down hill. Ordering seems to take forever and the line moves super slow, and when you finally do get to order, their staff are not the friendliest of folks. After ordering, if you happen to find a clean or even semi-clean table, you feel like you've just hit the lottery. Then there's the wait. They typically have maybe one person to bring food to patron's tables and either the poor server is overwhelmed or not in a hurry. Tonight (9/21/2018) we went in and ended up turning right around and found another place to eat. After entering the restaurant, there was a non-moving line to the door. As my wife was waiting in line, I went to find a table and while there were plenty - they were all a bit disgusting. Uncleared and unclean. I saw one server in the restaurant, a bunch of food at the "smash it up" window for her to bring to tables and decided we shouldn't add to the chaos and left. It may be a staffing issue or a training issue or both, but the Citrus Heights Smashburger has seen much better days. I hope they right size that ship and make it a more welcoming, clean and enjoyable place to grab a good burger. read more

Okay, so I have to re-review this spot since the manager sent me a message about addressing all my concerns when I first came here. So I came back to see how the improvements turned out (and I needed a burger fix). Firstly, very friendly, attentive service. Not that it was an issue to begin with, but I noticed that the young folks working here wanted to make sure you were happy. Secondly, you can now order Smashfries with the kids meal ($3.99). "So what?" you may ask. Well, these babies are yummy with a hint of rosemary. My daughter was thrilled. She also got the sourdough bun option for no extra charge, you can also get cheese on that too. Wow. I tried the sweet potato fries ($2.99) -- nicely done. Highly recommend. There was enough to go around and they weren't soggy. Also had the create-your-own 1/4 burger ($3.99) with bleu cheese, sourdough bun, grilled onions and all the rest. I'm always happy with that one. Finally, had the dulce de leche shake ($3.99) made with Haagen Dazs (sp?) ice cream. It comes with a cup and the extra bit in a metal container. Superbly hit the spot. But then again, can you really miss up a shake? Still haven't sat outside yet, but will be back to try out the patio arrangement. It was not as noisy and chaotic the first time I came here, floors did not seem as slippery as before. Verdict: this spot scores an extra star from me. read more

The patty was bland. Bun didn't taste like sourdough. Ask for the egg bun instead. Sweet potato smash fries came out burnt. Yes, burnt. I was not happy, and I do not recommend wasting your money or stomach space on this place. With The Habit down the street, I can't see this place staying in business. Vegetarians beware- their fries are cooked in some sort of beef fat! I tried their black bean burger which was pretty solid and I also got a side of fries. I used to eat meat back in the day so I know what it tastes like and what beef fat tastes like. These fries tasted like beef fat and it's quite honestly grossed me out to no end. The best burger I have ever had, hands down! It's not about the condiments here, it's all about the burger patty which is so tasty, so juicy and so flavorful. I'm drooling just thinking about it. I got the Norcal Burger which had brie (YUM!), lettuce, grilled onions and tomatoes with a balsalmic drizzle on it. OMG swear to you it was so delcious. It was so good I didn't even notice that the grilled onions weren't on my burger until someone from the kitchen came out and brought me a plate of grilled onions and apologized for forgetting to put them on. The young lady (Ayana) took my order. I went with the Classic Singke Smash burger, reg. Side of Tots and a reg. Fountain drink. I also decided to eat on the balcony & enjoy meal outdoors.
