So, here is my honest review of what I believe is a truly amazing burger place, yes it is a burger place and yes its fast food, however I came here on vacation with my family and I must say that this was by far the best quote unquote fast food burger I have ever had it was more like a burger from Red Robin or a higher end burger joint, I had eaten here a couple of times previously to this post just to give it a great review and make sure it was truly THAT GOOD! My first trip was great my second trip was great third trip was great and fourth trip was outstanding, I was helped by Zach who is a manager. I ordered a build your own burger with double bacon, guacamole, red onion, lettuce, and a fried egg with spicy chipotle mayo, I truly cannot say enough good things how friendly the staff was the other girl that brought me my food was Beth, the quickness without standing on the quality was outstanding there was nothing at all that I did not like about this place it was clean everything was fresh hot delicious and 100 percent perfect..... I had my burger with the famous Smashfries which are very thin small cut fries not greasy not heavily salted a lot better than all other food normal Chains that I've been to, I ordered it with a Oreo birthday cake a shake made with Haagen Dazs ice cream which truly again was outstanding I cannot wait to vacation again in Minnesota and I will truthfully eat at Smashburger many more times..... it will be my number one go to other than my favorite place which is White Castle and that's just because it is really fun to go to White Castle but the similarities from White Castle to Smashburger are not anywhere close to each other completely different burgers however I will add Smashburger to my all time favorite burger places just below White Castle in-n-out burger and Carls Jr :-) read more

Really average food at an elevated price (~$11 for a burger, fries and soda) combined with drab atmosphere makes for a thoroughly mediocre experience. The BBQ Bacon & Cheese burger I got had all the right ingredients I look for in a topping-heavy burger, but the flavor was just totally muted. I thought the sheer level of grease that dripped off the burger was going to be promising, but the patty had been overcooked to heck and back so it just ended up being a drippy meat-paste. A red flag should have went off in my head when they never asked how I wanted my burger done--anywhere that either doesn't state on the menu they cook everything to medium or ask you how you want it done is probably a bad sign. The bacon and haystack onions also barely had any taste to them. The small amount of Heinz (wth) mustard I put on ended up being the boldest flavor. The rosemary sweet potato fries ended up being the best part, but the portion size was kind of chintzy and wasn't good enough to bring me back. They were passing out samples of their chocolate shakes while I waited to order, but even that was thin and unfulfilling--it tasted more like chocolate milk. The Twin Cities area has a wealth of great burger places. This new chain does nothing to stand out and seriously compete, especially for the price. read more

Mmmhmm Smashburger! I would be a fool not to go after winning 52 free burgers for the year from a Yelp event. This location is tricky to get to so make sure you map it out beforehand. I always tell myself I'll get something healthy, a salad or the chicken avocado club, however my obsession with the mushroom truffle swiss burger always gets the better of me. You can really taste the truffle. This is still a burger so expect grease. For a side, I normally get the sweet potato fries. I feel like I'm an addict when I get them because there's never enough! On the rare occasion I'll order the haystacks. I like the idea of the haystacks but they can be a hit or miss as they're easily overcooked because of how thin the onions are. Smash does offer some unique burger toppings, such as the fried egg and guacamole, that I can get behind. Overall the food is good, more gourmet than a McDonald's but still casual and fast. I've had some awkward moments with using my vouchers for the free burgers, this location more than others. The location and parking situation makes this my least favorite Smash. read more

Food/Drink: Order the regular classic smash, smash fries and a smash drink (just kidding, it was a fountain drink). Wowzers, mediocrity upon mediocrity. The burger part of the burger was the best thing as it was actually flavored pretty well, but unfortunately you can't really just eat patties of burger without anything on top or on the side. The fries lacked substance, but maybe because they reminded me of shredded potatoes. Here's the thing though, they're a chain and as such need to seperate themselves from everyone else. The way they do it is via the topping options and probably the burger seasoning (see note above as good) as well as menu options (chicken, salads, shakes). Ambiance: I feel like I've been in many a burger joint and this place reminded me of any other chain, more so then other comparable places. They have a menu, but I'm really not sure why. You queue up, look up, order up. Get a seat, get a number, get your food. I guess the key is the "smash" name, but all I could think of when I saw it was "Hulk Smash this and Hulk Smash that", maybe that's what they're going for. Service: No complaints. They got our order in, food was prepped right and it came out whenever ready. We looked around and saw everyone leaving their dishes at the table so we did the same. Tables were clean and some of the condiment bottles less sticky then others. Overall: Back to back burger joints, you'd think I'd be comparing the two. Yes I am... and this place didn't pass muster. If you want some special burger topping options (think avocado, fried egg, truffle oil, etc), fancy fries, or chicken versions of the same in a chain burger setting this is your place. Ok where do I start. This store was understaffed, dirty, and dated. I am confused this location is in Eden prairie? This store should be better for this area. This is a classic example of hiring a photographer to make your food and store look 4 times better then it actually is. I ordered a $10.50 burger, I would say it was comparable to Burger King. It looked nothing like the picture portrayed. I tried there smash fries, they were pretty good. I took my family of 2 adults and 3 kids out for $45. Probably won't eat at this location again. Was looking for something quick yet tasty in Eden Prairie and I generally don't eat at the big name burger restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised that it was pretty busy for a Thursday night. The seats in the restaurant were mostly taken (good sign!) and the cashiers and staff seem to be pleasant and efficient. A few minutes later, I was tearing into my All American Smash with Sweet Potato Fries. Very pleased. The bun was nice and soft. The patty didn't feel like it was a mystery meat concuption! I like the onion strings at this place but that is about it. And I wouldn't go back for those, as they are really greasy, as is everything else at this place. I felt like I needed to do a cleanse after eating here it was so greasy. Their kids hotdog came with a huge bakery style sesame bun that tasted AWFUL. And, I know of no kids that would like this bun....sesame seeds on a kids bun? really? The final straw, it shares a small parking lot with Verizon, and it is always very crowded and there is not a very good way to turn around and leave. Would much rather go to Five Guys. read more

Here's my problem - I actually like Smashburger food (especially their milkshakes and salads), but I won't return to this location again because of the AWFUL customer service today over lunch. Service: We ordered a burger with no onion. Burger came out, and it was obvious that onions had been put on the burger and then they attempted to pluck the onions back off. When Maggie came out to ask how our food was we told her that unfortunately it wasn't how we had ordered it, that onions had been put on it (there were still some stuck in the sauce and we showed her this) and she agreed that it was important to remember that when you allow customers to make changes to the burgers, that the kitchen should be paying close attention to what those changes are. Maggie asked if we would like the burger re-made, and we declined (after complaining I would never have them remake food - who knows what they would do! yuck!). She apologized, we said it was okay and turned back to our meal. The employee then walked maybe 10 yards to the counter where where she began talking to Kathy (another employee) and dramatically rolled her eyes. We were shocked to see her relay a dramatized version of our complaint to her coworker which had them both laughing and rolling their eyes. Kathy then came to wash the booth next to ours and I told her "You can let your manager know to expect a call about our visit today" - She said "Okay, I will" and rushed in back to the kitchen... I expected to see a manager swing by to see why were upset, but what I didn't expect was to see Maggie (the first associate that was rolling her eyes) come out and verify that we were okay. On closer inspection of her name tag... yes, Maggie was the manager. Unbelievable. She then went on to tell us that we misunderstood and her conversation with Kathy had nothing to do with us (remember we were close enough to hear her, they were rolling their eyes and pointing at our booth). She apologized for the "miscommunication". We told her that having a conversation mocking customers right in front of them was not the smartest idea and that we weren't impressed with the service we received today. She finally changed her story and said that she was telling Kathy about the fact that the burger was wrong and she wanted Kathy to tell whoever was cooking in the backroom to be more careful. We asked about the eye rolling and she abruptly said "well again, so sorry that your food was wrong" and hurried into the kitchen. So the order came out wrong, not the end of the world. IF that was all it was, I'd still come back in the future. But standing there, mocking customers, rolling your eyes, and then lying when called out on it... nope. I'm stoked SB has arrived in Eden Prairie. Truth be told, this is more about location than incredible food but when you live in EP (i.e. Food DESERT), new options are always exciting. Some live up to expectations (jason's deli) and some don't (Kona Grill). But Smashburger is a welcome addition to EP. I made my own burger and got the smashfries. Burger was fantastic. My favorite part is their buns. They are super spongy and easy to bite in. Their burgers are grilled to perfection and your options are wide for toppings. Mrs. G concurs, although she tends to get the mini one (bwahahaha). One improvement I'd make is the amount of fries. Take a page from Five Guys and stop skimping on me Todd! read more

Sorely disappointed. I was a Smashburger monthly regular until today. I ordered my typical "big size" Spicy Baja Burger, while my wife ordered a "regular size" turkey burger only to receive something we could only describe as snack burgers. They were only roughly half the portion size we have received in the past. My wife and I both looked at each other in astonishment when our food arrived at the table. The service was fine, the food was tastey as always, but at the premium price this establishment demands the portion size is now a bad joke. The food at this Smashburger location was great but the service and environment left a lot to be desired. Everything was very unorganized and tables weren't being cleared. Even though there were four unoccupied tables on the patio none were available because none had been cleared. I went with my mom and we told the person taking our order we wanted to share a malt but she only have us one cup. She also didn't know how to ring up a gift card and had to call over the manager. There were also two rude young kids making everything more difficult. They were loudly whining and even throwing change. Nobody told them to stop. Come here when it's not busy. After vowing to never return to the filthy Southdale Smashburger, we gave the Highland Park restaurant a try. The place was nice and clean. We commented to the manager how much we appreciated her hard work and about the filth at the Edina location. She agreed but defended them by saying they were one of the busiest locations in the Twin cities. That's no excuse for the amount of filth I saw there and so many other Yelpers have written about as well. We were a little less impressed with our St. Paul burgers and wondered if Edina's dirt may have added another flavor layer. We'll try St.. Louis Park next. Fingers crossed! read more

Driving home from a long day at work, feeling lazy, and craving a bacon cheeseburger last week, I decided to try out Smashburger for the first time. The restaurant was clean, laid out similar to any fast food chain but just a bit more crisp. You can't see the grill from the dining area (like at Five Guys) - which, to be honest, now that I think about it, I prefer the Five Guys layout.... its just a little more comforting to be able to see where your food is being prepared (and by whom) in a joint like this. The lady at the counter was very nice, helpful, and patient with me as I contemplated my options. I ended up getting exactly what I was craving, at least that was what I ordered. My specific words were that I wanted a burger with "just bacon, cheese, BBQ and mayo." Healthy, right? Whatevs, neither a dallop of mayo or the absence of lettuce is making any difference in the artery clogging potential of this meal. I also ordered sweet potato fries, hoping that they just might live up to some grand expectation I have of all sweet potato fries that so rarely ever gets fulfilled. The order came up quickly, and I took it home to devour in the privacy of my own living room. What I unwrapped looked nothing like the burger photos posted in the restaurant. The burger was half off the bun, all the curled-up bacon loaded on one side, and as far as condiments.... there was no discernible mayo, only the tiniest hint of BBQ sauce, and a ton of ketchup and *blech* yellow mustard. This girl despises yellow mustard - so gross!!! Maybe I missed something on the menu that says all burgers come with ketchup and mustard on them, but even Wendy's doesn't put it on their Baconator unless you ask for it. I scraped as much of it off as I could, but alas it had already soaked into the bun. The burger itself wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either - definitely quite greasy, which is a pro for some and a con for others. The bun was multi-grain and pretty dry, the cheese was a traditional Kraft american slice. So boring. Truly, I would probably just go to Wendy's next time over this. Oh yes, the sweet potato fries. Mediocre. I ate them, but didn't enjoy them. The only thing about my experience that makes me want to try Smashburger out one more time is the sweet gal who took my order. read more

I don't think I will be back. If so it would only be for a salad or chicken, NEVER a burger and fries. The burger was seasoned tons, felt like it was to cover up a bad piece of meat. If I am after a burger I will go to Five Guys instead, Blue Door pub or Lions Tap. The burger here was not any better than you would find at Chilli's, Wildfire, etc. Did not fill any craving! French Fries were the worst. Fast food fries are even better. The fries were so bad that I would take them off of the menu. Only thing they have going for them is the location and speedy service. About 20 minutes into the wait the manager gave me and several of the other people who had been waiting $5 off coupons. Narrow cut and crispy, just how I like them. Shake was great. It's made in the old fashioned shake tin and they give you that plus a glass. We tried out the new Smashburger in AV and was underwhelmed. The place is very nice. Clean, uncluttered, plenty of space. The service was great!! Friendly and fast. I was impressed with the service. We ordered the Twin Cities, rosemary fries, onion crisps and caramel shake. The burgers didn't have any flavor. They were really messy (greasy), but I that was OK. The rosemary fries were good. I like the thin cut. The onion crisps were very very very salty. Way too salty. The caramel shake was....well, it is Haagen Das. Over all, I was disappointed.
