I'm not sure what's happened in the past couple years but the staff there currently cannot get any order right nor do they have good attitudes. I used to love this location. But since, I've ordered there several times in the past year and every time I was not satisfied. The way they make the fries now are different, always over cooked or stale. Second time I went I asked for a BEAN burger and I got a greasy BEEF burger with over cooked fries. I was very clear in my order. The manager attempted to have me come back to get the correct order, which for that they get 3 stars but I was home already and hangry. I never went back. Visited this location last month (over due review). I had an okay experience. The grilled chicken burger was greasy ( I experienced this more than once). Needless to say, I could have gone to Chic-Fil-A and be better off. Now the fries, I ordered their smash fries. During this visit, they were seasoned and coated just right. This is the absolute was place to eat in Houston. Let me start off by saying it's rare to find a place that down abides by standard health codes. The cashier Shannon took it upon herself to eat fries through the kitchen window while I was waiting on my fries. This place was empty when we visited on a Sunday afternoon, so I can't comment on wait time when they're busy, but our service was quick and efficient. The food was absolutely melt-in-your-mouth goodness. I had the Swiss mushroom burger and my husband had the BBQ bacon burger. Both were phenomenal, although I was really partial to mine. :) My only complaint was the jalapeño garnish on my fries, but that would be a PLUS to most people, including my hubs, so it doesn't factor in my rating. UNIQUE - My one-word attempt at describing SmashBurger. It's the most unique burger chain I've been to, food-wise. The customer service is always great, everyone that works there is always sweet, helpful at the counter AND walking around the restaurant always asking if we need anything. I've had multiple conversations with the people that work here, at the counter and while seated at my table. I've never had anything but great customer service here, and they didn't make me feel like just a 'customer' ("NEXT!" - you know what I'm talking about). THE FOOD. If you asked me what my favorite fast-food burger was, I'd probably respond with a hyped-up "Five Guys!" or something. But if I actually sat down and thought about it (which I'm doing now... when I was supposed to be at the gym...), I'd say SmashBurger, hands down. Their burger buns have egg in them, the veggies are always fresh, and the patties are definitely not frozen. Everything is fresh. I've tried their smashfries and their sweet potato fries- both fantastic. I've had their mushroom swiss burger, all american, and their chicken sandwich (the one with avocado- not sure what it's called). Lately i've been getting kids meal burgers (i told you, they're nice at the counter! they let you get away with it) which include fries and make me just as full, with less of the unhealthy numbers. I've driven by this location numerous times but only now I've decided to give it a try. Recently, my wife & I wanted to give it a try. However, we were turned off only because there was no one in the restaurant at that time, & therefore decided to go elsewhere. I returned a few days later by myself. I browsed the menu. I liked the fact that they offer 1/3 pound or 1/2 pound burgers. I opted for the american smashburger, smash fries, and a chocolate malt. I would have stayed and ate there, but it was a rainy day and i wanted to enjoy it in the comfort of my own home. Regardless, this joint is quite clean as it is fairly new. First i dug into the smash fries. I like the fact that they were seasoned w/ oregano & rosemary unlike most fries ive tried. They were thin, but crispy and finished it all before i hit the burger. Pretty good i must admit. Next i tried the burger. It was juicy, well seasoned, and best of all the bun was toasted in butter, yet warm & soft at the same time. This added to the overall taste. My chocolate malt was delicious. The only bad thing was it is a bit on the pricey side at 3.99 for a 16oz cup. Nonetheless, this was a great drink, but i don't think i want to pay that price for the drink alone. Overall, I enjoyed my smashburger and recommend it to anyone. The ice machine looks as though I could catch something , the manager said it was just stained from bleach water. The food was ok, burger was luke warm and bun was cold, lettuce was brown and slimy on the end, so I skipped the lettuce. Not sending food back and never touched my drink... I ordered the Classic Smash and an order of Smash Fries. The fries were some of the most delicious fries I have ever tasted. The rosemary and garlic tasted so good with olive oil. They were a little greasy, but fries are supposed to be, right? Anyway, let's move on to the burger. I like the fact that they have different buns and cheeses to choose from. Most places only give one option. The bun was soft and tasty and the produce on the burger was fresh and crisp. I think what sets the burger apart from a lot of other places, was the quality of the beef. It was juicy and the taste was so pure, you could tell it's never been frozen. And I love ketchup on my burgers so I like that that's part of their recipe. The place was clean and there were plenty of guests inside when I arrived. The lady at the register was very friendly and smiled at me when I walked up. So my girlfriend is in town, we are just having a wonderful weekend, and as for lunch, I was craving a burger.... so I decide to give smash burger a try, It's both our first time and Let's just say, I would never come back to this location or even a Smash Burger again... Let's just say this place is all hype! You think the name is unique and cool and that you'll actually get a pretty good burger... that is from what is actually happening... The place was really slow, no one was there, besides one person who was there for a to go order. Robbie who took our order was so not enthusiastic at all, and you could tell he did not want to be there... he didn't even ask us if we've been here before or if there were any promotions or specials going on... just a monotone voice and poor body language throughout our interaction... to make things even WORSE! The other girl working there, which I couldn't get a name, was just on her phone and could also care less to be there as well. So when my girlfriend asked to not have any of their "smash sauce" or lame sauce in my honest opinion to be excluded on her burger, the girl there gave an attitude and we can over hear her saying in the lines of "we put the sauce in all our burgers, but whatever" So when get our order... let's just say the pictures DO NOT MATCH the actual burger! The patty was tasteless, not juicy at all, the burger buns looks pathetic and were your generic buns even though they tout that they're different, and then comes the fried onion rings which barely existed there on their "SIN CITY BURGER" (worse burger ever). Also the Bacon that's on the burger looked absolutely ridiculously small and was not CRISPY at ALL, It's like their idea of Bacon was a style you would cook Canadian Bacon, extra chewy, I had a hard time enjoying the burger, you're better getting artificial bacon bites and putting them on the burger. Overall you would think the customer service or the food would make the experience memorable or enjoyable, none of that was the case. You're better off making a burger from scratch and saving yourself the disappointment you get from their rendition of a burger. Who knows maybe we went on a bad day, but I know for sure that my girlfriend and I would likely never come back or recommend going to a smash burger. But if you like an underwhelming experience, be deceived by pictures compared to the actual reality of the product and you want to interact with a kiosk like experience but with people this is the place for you. The place is very small to begin with and I always felt crowded in there, especially when I had to squeeze through a long aisle of tables and chairs filled with people. The lady at the front was helpful when we told her it was our first time and she was patient. I ordered the Classic Smashburger with a side of Smash Fries which are brushed with rosemary, olive oil, and garlic. The burger itself was ok, but it tasted pretty unhealthy and greasy. The fries were VERY good. They had their own flair and flavor. While me and my fiance ate, people kept coming in the door and lining up right where I was eating, (my chair backed up into a line of people) so it was very difficult to get around and move in that place because it was always so cramped. I went yesterday with my friend and my kids total 7 people. We ordered 6 burgers and two kids meal. We were trying to use the coupon "buy one get one free" and show cashier the coupon from our cell phone. Instead of giving us one burger off the cashier gave us kids meal off which has cheaper price. I told her to correct it and she said she need to ask manager to void it. When manager came out he told us first of all he can't void it because kitchen is working on our foods now (I haven't even paid it yet), secondly, they don't accept coupon from cell phone only print out. He also told us the coupon only apply to adult my 13 years old daughter can't use it, it has to be in separate transaction etc. He is being not reasonable so we left. If they are afraid of people using the coupon then just don't do it. I am really disappointed with the customer service.
