really wanted to like this place because we come in fairly often, but the consistency is just not there. Customer service is standard, but the food is always a mystery. My husband orders the same plain bacon cheeseburger every time, and it's honestly a 50/50 chance if it comes out correct. He sticks with it because at least he knows it usually won't make him sick. I like to try different menu items, and that's where things get really questionable. The crispy Brussels sprouts I ordered were basically 99% loose leaves -- no actual Brussels sprouts -- and they were so greasy I only took two bites. Most recently, I ordered a cup of mac and cheese. What I got was two bites worth at the bottom of the container, plus two burnt, hardened sheets of cheese stuck to the bottom (the only way I can describe it is like mac and cheese "burnt cheese tacos"). I honestly didn't know what I was looking at. I'm not trying to be harsh, but for the price, the food quality and consistency really need improvement. I hope this gets addressed because I'd like to keep supporting this place, but experiences like this make it hard to justify coming back. read more

It had been a couple years since I've been to a SmashBurger. I saw this one and thought I'd eat there today. They have gone downhill in a way that shocked me. Do not order chicken from here. It is not fresh and may be canned. It smelled like tuna, was soggy and had the texture of cat food. The salads are no longer unique and tasty like they used to be. Their burgers are less than 1/2 the size I remember. The shake options are no longer exciting as the most interesting they have is chocolate chip. My meal (chicken sandwich, fries & drink) cost me $20 and I feel completely scammed. The smash fries are tasty like I remember, but if I can't get a decent entre, it isn't enough for me. As I'm writing this review I'm feeling nauseated. I am not a picky eater by the slightest. I even like the occasional chicken salad sandwich but this was shockingly unappetizing. I don't like writing reviews like this, but something has to change if they want to stay in business and make their customers happy. Degrading food quality is something that shouldn't be used to cut costs. Other than the fries, I at least appreciate that the food came out quickly, they were well versed on gluten free practices, and the person who took our order was nice. For this, I considered giving the restaurant 2 stars instead of 1, but my sandwich was one of the worst foods I've ever had. read more

Boy oh boy. . . Well for starters, the place was filthy. It seems like they are woefully understaffed, however, so that likely explains why. No time to keep up with the messes customers leave. Okay, whatever, hard to not feel bad for them there. Interestingly enough, I wasn't going to leave a bad review but after reading through some of these other ones, I came to a rather strange conclusion: I think the people working here don't know what they're doing and are resistant to customer requests. When I ordered the Sin City burger (somewhat of a staple at Smashburger, I've been told by employees at other locations that they're always sort of excited to make it) I was told the same thing someone else was in a previous review: "we don't make that" "I don't even know what that is" "I've only worked a month and a half, never heard of it". Sounds like she's told someone else a similar line of reasoning to get out of making the beehive burger. I tried to describe what comes on it and got zero help trying to recreate it, and she even came across as irritated to have to figure it out. This is not a complicated burger to make. However, she was clearly miffed that I would request we try. I also ordered fries. Was told it would be a wait because the large fryer was broken. Fine enough, I don't mind waiting. Then my partner ordered fries with a different employee (she had gone to handle business in the bathroom). He was told that they don't have them. Interesting. I perked up my ears at this because I just paid for some. Asked about it. Was told only the manager could confirm if that was the case or not. While waiting for about five minutes for her return (the customers lining up behind us) we decided we would go somewhere else and requested a refund for my order altogether. Not trusting the process. We were told it would be a wait because she couldn't perform this task herself, she had to call it in. I decided to save her the trouble of doing her job, and said I would just dispute the charge myself. Seriously though, this place used to be a favorite of mine. I won't be going back, not for all the fries in the world. A little attitude adjustment and can-do attitude would go a long way here. read more

My toxic trait is that I ordered takeout on my way to pick up my groceries for the week. I'm still mourning the closure of Habit Burger in Sugarhouse but today I noticed that there is a Smashburger across the street from where Habit used to be. All these years and I'd never noticed it before! I was craving something greasy and decided to check it out. I ordered online for pick up and it said my order would be ready at 8:20. It wasn't ready until closer to 8:35. Several other people were waiting for their online orders as well. I got their Smash fries and their truffle mushroom black bean burger, which was one of their pricier burgers on the menu and totally fell flat for me. In my hungry delusion I didn't realize this particular burger doesn't come with any lettuce, tomato, or onion. It just comes with the patty, mushrooms, and supposedly a truffle Mayo but I didn't taste any truffle flavor. The burger was small and didn't have much flavor. If I ever come back I would order lettuce, tomatoes, and onion to add some more oomph to the burger. And I would probably just stick to their classic black bean burger. The smash fries were decent, definitely on the greasier side though. They come with garlic and rosemary which is always yummy. They were just a little too greasy and not super crispy. I don't know that I'll be coming back here, but I'm glad I tried it out. They have a wide variety of items on their menu - wings, burgers, chicken sandwiches, milkshakes and even salads. read more

I hate to leave this review because I have enjoyed this smashburger over the years but it has changed and not for the better. I have eaten here twice in the last month and both experiences were the same. Service was friendly but pretty clueless about the menu. "No, we don't do fried pickles", "you sure, you have done them in the past", "nope we don't do that". They also had no idea what the beehive burger was. "It was on your menu for years", "no idea what you are talking about, people ask for it all the time but I have no idea", "do you have a burger with BBQ sauce?", "yes, with fried onions, cheddar and bacon", "that is the beehive burger", "Shrug". Anyway, both times I went the fries came out cold and soggy. Not a surprise they were probably sitting around as I was the only person in the restaurant, once at 7:30 pm on a weeknight and once at 12:30pm during the week. Why no fry sauce? 3 ketchup packets placed on the fries was kind of tacky and frankly gross. Burger was good, fresh and hot. Shake was a disappointment. They used to bring it out in a metal shake cup, now it comes in a half full soda cup with some whip cream on top to make the cup look full. Definitely not fun like it used to be and half the size. Still $6 though!?! Here was my order: BBQ burger single patty, smash fries, small soda, peanut butter shake. Over $20 with a 15% tip. Didn't feel like a $20 meal. Out of all of the burger chains, I think Smashburger is my favorite out of all of them. I got a Beehive burger and some smashfries and was extremely pleased. It just hit the spot in all of the right ways. The burger was a little bit sweet from the honey bbq sauce and had haystack onion rings on top with some applewood smoked bacon inbetween. Yum-O! The smashfries were tossed in olive oil with garlic and rosemary. The burger and fries were a little too oily for my liking, but hey well worth it. I'll just exercise the excess oil off.
