IT TOOK TWO HOURS!!!!! I wish I would have paid five dollars more and gone to a place that knew what they were doing. I dropped my car off and there were only two cars in front of me. I came back an hour later and the lady said that she couldn't figure out how to open my hood (after she told me that she owned the same car?!) I opened the hood for her and left for another half hour. When I came back my car was running in the parkinglot and some other car had somehow jumped the line in front of me. After sitting there for twenty minitues watching my car idle in the parking lot they finally finished and FAILED me. Avoid this place at all costs. People are verry rude and too cheap to hire any employees that know what they are doing. And yes thy guy ate his lunch in my car while he did the test. read more

It doesn't get any worse than this. Came here yesterday and waited for 30 minutes before they told me the technician had to leave for the day. They offered me a $20 coupon & told me I wouldn't have to wait until the next day. Today, I come in and the husband was working (wife yesterday). He told me to leave and come back in 30 minutes and then they could help me. I advised him what his wife said, and he told me to leave & come back later?? Since it was 3:30 & they close at 5pm. I stayed and waited. It took almost another hour & he was running around yelling at customers & totally disorganized. I would drive a hundred miles to get a smog anywhere but here again. They won't do a smog test on my 1988 Mercedes with 93,000 miles because the wife is a cancer survivor and they are afraid the pollutants will bother her! Am I on candid camera or an episode of punked??? They said they won't do a smog test but will refer me somewhere else and tried looking for coupons for me. Like people say - they're kind of abrasive. I also had an irritating added fee of $3 because I didn't bring my dmv paper with bar code so they had to take all that trouble to type a 16 digit number into the computer. I hate that kind of nickle and dime when they don't put anything on their website or tell you on the phone to bring your bar code paper. It is loud because there is just a couch there in the shop with all the machines going. But fact is they're cheapest around and its just a car smog - no difference of quality. Clear your morning and get in early. Not much parking on Saturday, so Sunday is ideal. There are two designated parking spots for Smog Test but try to find parking in the small lot. They are incredibly friendly. Maybe I'm a seasoned veteran in car repair and smog testing waiting times but I know to give plenty of time for this kind of errand. Piles and piles of magazines to keep your eyes moving and comfortable seating (a few office rolling chairs and two couches). They fill up quick with awaiting customers. Best bet is when you get there, ask how long the wait is, and then either drive around or walk around for 20-40 minutes. Each car takes about 15-20 minutes for a test. I used to take all my cars here for years despite the 'we don't take credit cards' and the 'that price is not for your car it's $5 more' but Bill has now lost my business. Apparently, effective Jan 1, 2013 tailpipe emission testing is no longer required on model years 2000 and up - just connect the computer to the OBD-II port in the car and a quick visual and you're done (unless your car's computer has logged emission problems). The purpose of this change in law was to make smog testing faster, more efficient and LESS costly so here's my beef with Bill at his shop: I have a pre-2000 model year car so I called for their weekend hours (not posted on their website and no answering machine on their business line). Lina answered and said 'come early because we get busy and stop taking cars on the weekend'. She asked what kind of car I had, asked me to hold on while she told Bill and then she told me 'don't bother to bring your car we don't want to smog it'. I asked for Bill and explained I had been a customer for years with many cars in my household and he said 'I don't want to smog your car, it takes too much time - take it somewhere else' then he asked me to hold on - I hung up. So the same level of required testing he had to do on all my previous cars for all those years, he no longer wants to do for he previous loyal customers. Sorry Bill, I can take my business elsewhere and I won't refer anyone to you ever again. You could care less about your customers. I have a '01 Toyota Tundra. So I noticed they had a coupon online for $27.95. So as I get there, he quickly says it'll be $10 more, because I have a truck, $2 more for having an after market air filter intake. $3 more for no paperwork. "Smog Express" not quick at all, I had to come back and he said it'll be 20-30 mins, it took well over an hour. So after my first inspection, out of 4 possible criteria's you have to pass, I failed 1 of the 4. He advised me to drive around for 100 miles and come back for a re-inspection. Keep in mind this place is not a "pass or don't pay", therefore on top of the $40+ for my first inspecton, I had to pay another $40 for my re-inspection. I did pass my 2nd time around, miraculously! Even though I did no repairs or anything but drive around over the weekend. I believe this place is a rip-off! Don't go to this place just because of the coupon. Pay $40 at a "pass or don't pay" smog check facility, and save yourself some money! read more

Smog Express and I did not get off to the best start. I called in, and had a very unprofessional encounter on the phone. The wife snapped at me on the phone, then randomly shuffled the phone over to her husband, who called me "Sir"- I am a 24 year old woman. Thankfully, we had a better experience when I went in, not wanting to drive my car all the way up to the smog location I usually take it, in La Habra. The husband and wife team were very kind; they're from Lebanon, and it's fun to see them working together. Total price was $34.20, but only if I used a debit card. With a credit card I was told it was going to be more. I never use my debit card; thank goodness I even have it in my wallet! I was in and out in about 35 minutes. Been going here for about 3 years and its always been a pleasant experience. This time I was in and out in about 15 minutes on New Year's Eve morning. Great customer service and family owned. The husband wife duo work perfectly together and she still somehow remembers me even though I'm only in once a year. Honestly I would have given this place 0 stars if I could. It's amazing that in this day and age in such competitive market someone can provide such poor level of customer service. I went to this place for smog check. The guy told us there would be a waiting time and if we pay cash there would be a discount. We asked if we can leave the keys with him so he can do the smog check while we go to get cash and he told us he won't take the keys. So we decided to go get cash and come back. When we returned he said there are few other cars ahead of us and we still have to wait (this time the tone changed from normal to rude). They refused to smog my 1994 Mazda Miata although they had actually smogged it the previous 3 times. The wife made some 'cancer' excuse and that the man didn't like Miatas because they were gross polluters.
