The food at Smoke BBQ Pit is good, but, as barbeque goes, not great. I tried the beef ribs, and the pork rib tips, and was a little disappointed. In my opinion the need to be seasoned more and cooked until they are tender. The best things on the menu are the catfish, and the two handed burgers. The burgers are delicious, and the catfish is cooked to perfection. They are my favorite items on the menu. The sides are pretty good, especially the candy yams. The real reason I keep coming back to the BBQ Pit, is that every Friday night, they have this fantastic live R&B band called The Renegade Band. They play all the songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s to the present. They really add a nice touch to the whole dining experience. It is nice to be entertained while having dinner. I went to Friday, 9/7/18 and it was a big mistake. The server was nice and the ambience was fine. The food wasn't good. I ordered the 1/2 chicken and 1/2 rack of pork ribs. The chicken was dry and the ribs were also dry. The cornbread tasted like pound cake. The collard greens tasted like they came from a can or school lunch. And the portion of the sides were small. My boyfriend's rice was cold. And when we told the server rather than get a "fresh" serving of rice he put it in the microwave and brought back the same exact serving of rice. It cost $5.50 for a virgin strawberry lemonade which is over priced to me. My son ordered buffalo wings which also tasted dry. Love this place! Great for the neighborhood, food is very tasty and the staff is attentive. 3 visits - 1. sit down with a friend & ordered BBQ and chicken combo w/ potato salad and corn. The BBQ ribs were delish and the chicken was juicy. Very satisfied! 2. Take out - the BBQ ribs were dry but the half chicken was excellent. My kids enjoyed both..sides of mac n cheese and greens were slamming. 3. Birthday visit - friends ordered shrimps, chicken, beef and pork ribs. All of them (6) were very satisfied & would come back. On 12/21/19, I had my daughter's bridal shower in their attached catering hall. First of all, Rico and his staff was so nice, courteous and helpful. When I got there to decorate, they instantly started to assist me and every way possible and I did not even ask! They were very professional while waiting on my guests and attended to mine and their every need. The food was amazing and a lot of it. My guest raved about the quality and quantity. A few of them said the are going inquire about having their upcoming events there. The place is very beautiful inside and because the guest size was small, they moved tables around to make it cozy for me. The price per head was great! I definitely will have an affair there again! A REAL bar-b-que spot right in the heart of Jamaica, Queens! I've dined here several times and always found the food and the service to be excellent. Their menu has plenty of options, including several appetizers. Every entrees I've tried has been very good. The brisket (I highly recommend it!) is literally fork tender, juicy and has excellent flavor. There's fried fish, bbq chicken, shrimp and of course ribs (both beef and pork). The numerous side dishes are homemade styled and quite good. This is a nice restaurant for a family gathering, local dinner or just a quick lunch. My wife ordered the chicken ceasar salad which came with no chicken and drenched in ceasar dressing. 15mins later and still no chicken done. The yams were black and tooo sweet, and the potato salad tasted like pure vinegar I went looking for the manager but I was told that he just left. While searching I noticed that the cook was Indian (what he know bout soul food). They sent me someone to complain to that spoke less English than the waiter that just kept repeating "anything I do for you?" As entree's we both ordered the wings which were nice and crispy and the perfect amount. (Very generous in the portions) As side dishes, the mash potato and Mac n cheese were okay (not really my favorite,but decent). However, the red velvet cheesecake was AMAZING. My friend frequents this place, since it's in her neighborhood and took me with her this past Friday. We were seated quickly. It reminds me of a riff on Dinosaur or Dallas BBQ. The cornbread starter was good, as was my fried whiting sandwich and frozen margarita. I was skeptical when I asked our waitress for hot sauce and she pointed at the bottled labeled Hot BBQ sauce and said "That's all we have".
