All of the sides I've had are pretty tasty, but if I could only choose one it would be dem FRIES. The fries with a gang of Mustard Q and Blazin' HOT sauce. Those fries will make you feel loved. Those fries will cure all ailments. Get the fries. To drink, I do like the Bloody Mary with jalapeño tequila, but obvi it's a bbq spot so like be cautious because a Bloody Maria + some burnt ends nachos + fries WILL have you sleeping before 2pm. However, a Bloody Maria + a Wrightwood Salad + some of your bf's fries will have you ready for the day. If it's not a brunch move, then I love the smokin' rita, but I'm not gonna lie I get that with the jalapeño tequila instead of the mezcal because ya girl likes that jalapeño tequila. Smoke Daddy is a local neighborhood barbecue joint with great outdoor seating and frequent live blues music that make for a fun and entertaining dining experience. Unfortunately, in the three times I've eaten here the food has fallen a bit flat. Here is an overview of our most recent carry out order: Wings: this was a reorder because we liked the wings last time we had them. They had a nice smoky flavor but were dry. Even sadder, the container of sauce (which by the way is delicious and makes the wings) was filled only half full, not nearly enough to use on all wings. Carolina pulled pork sandwich: the pulled pork is tasty for sure. Unfortunately, again with portions - we ordered a side of Cole slaw in addition to a Carolina style sandwich (one with Cole slaw on it). The only slaw received is pictured - a half full container of Cole slaw that after adding to the sandwich left literally only two bites of Cole slaw for my fiancé and I. To clarify, that would be one bite each. Sweet potato fries: great flavor, a little soggy and cold despite being picked up on time. Go for the vibes, but don't expect epic portions or fine dining. This particular style of BBQ isn't what I've grown accustomed to having and so that's on me. $35 or so for a half rack of ribs, some brisket, some burnt ends and with sides of cornbread as well as mac and cheese. I would say that I waited 15 mins tops for my order to come out, which was great especially in how bust they were. There was a discrepancy with payment in that I was mistakenly charged for the wrong order and the manager handled it more than professionally, but also effectively and fast! I really appreciated that level of customer service. I loved their brisket nachos. They were absolutely amazing great serving size, loaded with brisket, cheese and your other favorite nacho toppings and had amazing flavor. FATHER KNOWS BEST If there's one thing dads can appreciate, it's tasty barbecue. Following a really underwhelming Elite event at the International Museum of Surgical Science (about as exciting as it sounds), my +1 and I made a stop for late dinner, desperate for food. I'd driven by -- and heard plenty about -- Smoke Daddy in the past, so I suggested ribs to Nichole C, who eagerly agreed. We sat outside on 10/2/18 and got a couple pints of Abita Purple Haze ($6). Their nachos are discounted to $7 on Tuesdays (normally $12) with your choice of meat. We got pulled pork, and although they were tasty I saw no jalapeños?!? What blasphemy is this!?! Unsatisfied with mere nachos, we placed an order for the chicken & ribs ($22), included with two sides. The chicken was juicy and had some kind of Jamaican jerk spicy rub on it, very good. I thought the mac 'n' cheese was decent (NC loved it), but the smoked pit beans were fantastic. That brings us to the ribs.......holy pope on a rope, that sh*t was outstanding. Given our choice of preparation (baby back, rip tips, etc), we opted for the St Louis style. An incredible, peppery BBQ sauce highlighted meat that literally fell off the bone and had me licking my fingers in delight. Bread = 4.5 Circuses = 4.5 To cap things off, we got a terrific banana pudding ($6) for dessert. Garnished with vanilla wafers and precisely the fresh flavor I'd hoped for, I could tell it was homemade. On a future visit I'll be sure to try their key lime pie! Service was fairly attentive and the bathrooms were brilliantly clean (at least the men's was). Their outdoor area couldn't be nicer, and the heaters ensure that you'll stay warm during chilly autumn evenings. Impressive array of high-def TV's, too. * TL;DR * Come for the ribs, stay for the heated outdoor patio (and that 'naner pudding, god damn!) Obviously during this pandemic, things don't go as originally planned. Prices are going up. I expect some issues. However, I paid over $100 for really sub-par food. I will try to be as even keeled about this as possible, but I'm really disappointed. The good: The ribs were phenomenal. The half-chicken portion was excellent. The Key-lime pie was well prepared. The bad: Under-smoked brisket, which was rubbery and got tossed into the trash by my son. Fat was not properly trimmed. Over-compensation of bbq sauce to cover up the lack of actual preparation. The pulled chicken was drier than Ben Shapiro's wife on their honeymoon. The fucking ridiculous: You cannot really "share" items when there is barely enough for one person, let alone 3-4 persons. - TINY, small square of corn bread. It disintegrated quicker than Spider-Man getting snapped by Thanos. Seriously. You can't sop up juices with... dust!! It was emotional, my sister cried. So many great places to eat on Division and The Smoke Daddy delivers on the BBQ. When I popped in over the weekend, they had a great acoustic artist strumming covers of 80s hits. Loved that they had live music going! My friend and I copped a seat on the patio and chilled out on the sunny 80 degree Sunday afternoon. Our server was so incredibly friendly and seemed really happy to be working. That is always a sign to me that a place must treat their people really well & I appreciate that. They had a very sessionable FFF IPA on tap that I had with my meal for $7. Again, perfect for the warm summer day. They have TVs even out on the patio, as well, so you sports feins should be satisfied! For my main meal, I went with the Burnt Ends sandwich and a side of Mac & Cheese for $11. Incredibly filling, great burnt ends, alright mac & cheese. My friend had the Smoked Platter for $17 and was disappointed in the thin brisket, not-on-the-bone chicken, baked beans which was more like chili with burnt ends in it and an order of fries which had no potatoes longer than an inch. So, we had some hits & some misses in our meal overall. I really did enjoy the atmosphere of Smoke Daddy plus they have daily specials! So even with the missed, I'll be back to try more on the menu.
