We were staying at the Hampton Inn right across the street from Smokehouse 41. Seeing all the pictures on Yelp made us super hyped up for some good smoked meats, but it was actually pretty average. The tri tip was pretty good, but the brisket was tough (maybe just an off day for the brisket?). The baked beans were pretty good because I'm normally complaining about how they are too sweet, but I actually thought these beans were cooked well and had a good amount of sweetness. The broccoli salad is worth the up charge because it went well with the heavy meat. All in all, I say give them a try if you are staying close by. read more

It was the perfect amount of food and great way to try every meat available with heaping plates of bbq sides too. Everything we ate here was delicious and tender. Hands down the best BBQ in Central California! I was not expecting much but as soon as we pulled up into the parking lot, I knew we were at a good spot. To give everyone my BBQ preference: Central Texas, Franklin's, Smitty's, Blackies, etc. You get the idea. The only difference between Smokehouse 41 and some of the BBQ joints in Texas is that you don't smell like you've been BBQ and there is no soot on the walls. The service: some of the most friendly folks I've meet. Great people, great service! Keep it up! Now onto the food. The brisket is on point! Great bark, awesome smokiness (NOT sooty), and great flavor. The jalapeño cheese sausage is a winner! The tri tip, pulled pork, and chicken were excellent! My only critique is that the pork ribs were just a bit tougher than I would have liked it. It would have benefitted by smoking for another hour so then the cartilage would have been crunchy heavenly. Otherwise, the ribs were well seasoned and tasted great. The bread with the onions and pickles with the shredded pulled pork... awesome! Their own BBQ sauce is on point and the spicy one is delicious! My only question: where are the dinosaur smoked beef ribs. Now that would be like Cloud 11! In summary, worth it every penny and every minute you waited in line to get your food. Absolutely hands down, I will be returning! Besides, it is a lot closer than Central Texas! read more

Yosemite was cool but have you tried Smokehouse 41?!? This was the perfect lunch after a hike. Loved the ordering concept as well, it kept the line moving and you do not need to wait to be seated. Everything looks so good on the menu from plates, sandwiches, large meals, tons of side dishes and more. The Sasquatch-Tri-tip & Brisket Sandwich with grilled onion and cheese sauce was so good and filling. If you could handle more, they have a three meat option called The Pit Master which comes with Brisket, Pulled Pork, and Sausage. Tri-tip is my favorite. Dirty Frites (fries with cheese sauce, choice of meat (brisket), chipotle aioli, & green - amazingly cheesy. Chicken Wing: Buffalo - good Jalapeno Mac and Cheese topped with bacon - can't taste much of the jalapeno but still really good. Smoked BBQ Beans with meat - good. So glad this gem was found because everyone was so hungry and it was a huge pleasant surprise on how good everything turned out. Felt like a total animal digging in but no shame. We swore it was the best BBQ spot all of us has tried, confirmed there's nothing like this back home. Most of the BBQ spots back home are kinda salty and sometimes dry imo. Decided to head over across the street and try Smokehouse 41 on NYE. Walked in and was overtaken by the amazing smell of their food. Long line but well worth the wait. Spoke to a very nice lady behind us and she drove 45 minutes just to pick up food. That tells you something. We had a little of everything, pork, chicken, brisket and tri-tip. Chicken was just a little dry but once you had their bbq sauce, perfection! They ran out of the BBQ beans but all other sides were fantastic. The Mac and cheese was not too cheesy which is the way I prefer. The cole slaw was made with almost a vinaigrette type dressing instead of mayo. It was great because most places will drench their slaw in mayo. Baked potato casserole was very good as well. Overall would definitely recommend those traveling through Oakhurst. If I lived closer I would definitely be back. Staff were super friendly and would even go down the line to see if anyone had questions and would constantly update people if they ran out of an item. If you bother to take a look at the other reviews, this place is clearly undeserving of a 4 1/2 star rating. I suspect this establishment pays Yelp a lot for advertising so they give them this favorable treatment. Let's see how low this review is placed by Yelp on their site. I had dinner at this restaurant during my recent stay in Oakhurst, and was definitely quite disappointed. Here are the reasons: (1) I ordered a two meat plate and asked for chicken as one of the two meats. The gave me some "pulled chicken", which is not how they describe it on their menu. (2) They have a strange selection of limited offerings available for the side orders. You cannot get a baked potato, you can only get a "loaded baked potato." They put jalapenos in the macaroni and cheese, and you cannot get that without japalenos. They put bacon in the bbq beans, and you cannot get that without bacon. Needless to say, I had a difficult time finding side orders that suited me. (3) They place the food directly onto your tray which is covered by a piece of paper. They do not use any plates here, not even paper ones. In all fairness, I did not think the food was really bad, but I feel there is enough here to justify my low rating. read more

So you do want to try to get here a little earlier, but not too early as Yosemite is the star of the vacation. However, they DO run out of food. I got the "PIT MASTER" with the jalapeño mac and cheese on the side. The Pit Master was amazing! Great flavor, huge portion, fresh pickle slices, and coleslaw. I'm not the biggest fan of coleslaw but this was pretty good. I got it to go and I really appreciated that they put the pickles, bbq sauce, and the slaw on the side so the buns wouldn't get soggy. Because it can get crowded fast! You will be waiting to get in while the hot sun beats down on you. We happen to arrive just as they were opening at 1130 am. So we didn't have to wait long. We both chose a 3 rib combo with another choice of meat and side. My wife ordered brisket with her ribs and I chose sausage. Her side was some sort of loaded potato thing. I really didn't pay attention. Because I was more concerned about my sides. I chose coleslaw and their amazing jalapeño Mac and cheese. Man I GRUBBED! I kept saying how amazing the food was. Especially the jalapeño Mac and cheese. It was just ridiculous how good the food was. A manager overheard me and was delighted at my comment. The place has great tasting meat. I orders a 2 meat plate. And I was disappointed due to the price I received 1 slice of brisket and 3 very small slices of tri-tip. I'd say 2 quarters would have covered up the meat small. The roll was hard and the sides seemed home made.
