Went to this location this past weekend. Ordered the brisket. I was literally delivered a plate of fat. When the waitress came back, I showed her and she immediate agreed and said she usually looks and would never have served that. The manager was of course told and never bothered to come to the table. I caught her glaring over my way a couple times. The meal was removed from the bill (it wasn't touched at all) and the check was delivered. I guess the rest of my table was done and didn't want desert or anything. Also. Waitresses. Get something straight. If someone orders a water with lemon and asks for a refill, they don't want you to top off the water unless you have more lemon to go with it. Duh! Needless to say, I wasn't impressed. read more

I've eaten here about 4 or 5 times but always for lunch. We came for dinner and the place was packed. I thought it was going to be an ordeal to get served but boy was I wrong. Our waitress Heather, was right there for us and once we ordered, stuff came right out to us. The ribs were really good. We had St Louis style with a rub because I'm not a fan of sweet sauces. Nice amount and really satisfying. I got the house rack and ate the whole thing! We had a really good experience here. I'm pretty much a hardcore rib eater so I haven't ordered the wings or pulled pork sandwiches or any other number of items on the menu. I will be back for more ribs. read more

While in Erie, PA on a business trip, my friends/co-workers and I were looking to get a drink and a bite to eat, so we stopped in at Smoky Bones. The bar tender was really nice. He told us that they smoke meat 24/7! There were TV's all around the top of the bar area, so I could catch up on my Yankees scores. (Which were not good last night...) I ordered the buffalo wings, but also tried the fried pickles and the smoky BBQ wings. My wings were ok. There wasn't much meat on the bones, so when fired in hot oil, they came out a little crispier than I like. So not much crispy meat doesn't make for a great chicken wing, you know? The sauce was the standard "Frank's Red Hot", made famous just up I90 in buffalo. You can't get that wrong. Unless, you put way too much of it on the wings after you plate them and that's what was happening last night. The smoky BBQ wings were excellent. The sauce was deep and rich and the spice they used was unique. Spicy without being hot. The wings were cooked well, but again, not as much meat on the bone as there should have been cooked in hot oil, so..... The fried pickles were excellent. The pickles seemed fresh and they were coated in what looked to be a panko breading that they managed to make stick to the pickles well. Bravo for that Smoky Bones. There was a rack of sauces in bottles that accompanied the pickles and other things of that nature, which was cool, but there weren't labels on them, so we found ourselves squirting a little on our finger to try it and see what it was. They should slap some labels on the bottles with a font that corresponded to their restaurant theme. (That consultation will cost you Smoky Bones! ) J/K... Anyway, the bar tender was very nice and helpful. We had a great time and enjoyed some good-ish food. read more

Went with gf for dinner. She had a pulled pork sandwich which she liked but it was fairly tiny considering the price. The accompanying Cole slaw was tasty. I had a rib combo with barbecue chicken. The chicken was good but the ribs might have been the worst I have ever had. They were dry and way overcooked. To make matters worse the waitress stops by to ask if we left room for dessert when we might have been half done with the meal. Famous Dave's has much better food and better value for your money. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This place is sloppy and has no sense of hospitality when it comes to a restaurant. My food had to be brought out three different times with no accommodations given. The manager was unprofessional. When he brought out my food the third time he said "third times the charm" and continued to laugh. This place is a joke. read more

Smokey Bones has a crowd-pleasing menu plus good service and big flavors to back it up. Our apps and entrees were served piping hot and tasted great. My personal favorites are the "pretzel bones" and their mac 'n cheese side. Pulled pork with KC BBQ was also delicious. The pretzel sticks were super soft and kicked up a level with cheese dip. Their mac 'n cheese has a wonderful smokey flavor and perfectly creamy texture. I'm glad we stopped here! read more

So bad. How can you call this bbq? This must be cooked ahead of time, stored in a plastic bag and then reheated in a pressure cooker or boiling water. The result is a spongy overly moist piece of meat. It was hard to tell the difference between beef brisket and pulled pork. The meat came presauced to cover up the taste and look. read more

We love Smokey Bones usually. Walked in on Monday October 8 at 6:30pm. No one at the hostess desk to great us, went to the bar and sat down. There were a group of women who were leaving and another couple ready to leave. No one else at the bar. The restaurant was not busy. We sat there for almost ten minutes waiting to be acknowledged. Bartender was laughing with her co-workers while making a couple drinks. Never even looked around to say I'll be with you in a minute. We got up to leave and still no one acknowledged us and no one at the hostess desk. read more

Service was fine, food was bad. I mean BAD! Ribs were BURNT on the bottom. Probably sat on the heat too long. Macaroni and Cheese was just the kids version with cheap cheddar thrown on top. Cheese sauce was water based and soupy! Cheese fries were all tomatoes and CHEAP cheese. Brown Sugar Glaze had ZERO brown sugar taste and didn't look at ALL like the picture in the menu or the last time we ordered them. Really disappointed in our trip to this place. My wife & I dined here on a Saturday at about 9 p.m., well after the traditional local dinner hour. It may have been busy earlier as there was trash by the front entrance. We were immediately seated as the restaurant was nearly empty including the bar. The air conditioning made it very chilly inside though it had not been a particularly warm day. Our server promptly greeted us & took our drink orders. My wife requested a gluten-free menu which had a significant number of items. I ordered the 'Double Trouble' which is a 1/3 rack of St. Louis-style ribs & 1/3 rack of baby backs. My wife ordered a half-rack of baby backs. Our food was served quickly, it was hot, but I had to ask for my garlic bread. However, our server may have assumed both of us were ordering gluten-free. The food & price-point bumped my rating from 3 to 4 stars. Both my wife & I thought the ribs & our sides were excellent if you are basing your evaluation on Smokey Bones being a chain, not a mom & pop restaurant where BBQ is a religion. There's not too many of those north of the Mason-Dixon Line or east of the Mississippi. But this is a good option for the southern shores of Lake Erie. Went to dinner here last night took us 15 minutes to even be acknowledged once we sat down. My son & husband ordered the special 2 1/3 rack of ribs drink and 2 sides. Waitress didn't even know the details of the special and she acted like she didn't even want to wait on us! We ordered appetizers never received them, our meals came out. I asked the waitress where our appetizers were. Needless to say they came out after our meals. The place was dead. No excuse for service like this especially when your bill is over $125.00. Totally disappointed. Went to Erie for the weekend and walked up to Smokey Bones and seen at least 10 empty tables through the windows. I had a party of 2. Go inside to hear from the hostess there was a 45-60 minute wait! Even with plenty of clean, empty tables. So mad Famous Daves closed in Erie, that was my go to BBQ place when in town. Figured I'd try Smokey Bones being Daves is gone. But now I'll never even go back to Smokey Bones. read more

On a visit to Erie, PA a friend and I decided to visit this establishment, as the name was unique and the place looked inviting. Upon arrival we were greeted with a smile, and shown to our table - the menu was massive (to a fault) and it took us a while to settle on our meal. I had the smoked chicken breast which was really good, and my friend got the sliced breast. The server was a nice young lady named Alex, that one of our party had went to school with. My only complaint was the timing of our mean, we sat for nearly an hour before we received our food. Two of the group only had Pulled pork and soup, so the gap between ordering and receiving our food was confusing. It cause one of us to be late to work, suffering a penalty (he worked across the street) All-in-all I would say the food was great, service - subpar. read more

Smokey Bones is a chain sports bar/BBQ joint. Even though it is a chain store they actually produce very decent BBQ. Have tried the ribs several times over 3 or so years and each time have been very satisfied. Available in several styles; Memphis dry rub, BBQ sauce and 2 others, each are well cooked with a nice bark and smokey flavor. Sides are typical BBQ such as cole slaw, french fires, baked potato, beans, etc. Full bar with at least 4 types of draft beer. Hamburgers, steaks and chicken also available, have not tried these. read more

A deflating experience... I was soooooo hoping to have an awesome "real smoked bbq" What a nasty example of real smoked bbq.. I opted for the highly recommended full baby back ribs. The suggested Memphis dry rub was also the "choice" version that I "had to have" as pushed by the server.... I dont think that half an inch of seasoning salt on already dry ribs is at all whatI would call "awesome bbq" It was so harsh that I couldnt eat more than 2 pieces. I brought this concern to the waitress, the response was (in a snotty attitude) "thats the way they are" I smiled and said "really..wow" well I would not like to further punish my tongue with the salt lick and return the ribs. She suggested I have the "wet" version which consisted of a sweet bbq sauce drenched over the pre-salted version. Starvation forced me to eat these poor examples of ribs and I forced myself through the remaining ribs. I overheard several people complaing about cold,dry meals all around our table, aparently a common concern. I would suggest that if you wanted good bbq... do not go here. read more

I travel to Erie once a year for a basketball tournament, and one of my favorite stops is Smokey Bones. We don't have one where I live, so it is a nice change of scenery. I have always been extremely satisfied with my meals there. Best of all is their Skillet Cornbread - sweet, skillet-baked cornbread served with honey-pecan butter. It's a must-order item! The rest of their food isn't necessarily extraordinary, but good for a mid-price chain restaurant. I definitely recommend that you give it a try :) read more

Upon arrival we noticed how dirty our table settings were. The BBQ sauce bottles were slimy and looked old as the labels were worn out and you couldn't read all of it. Our server messed up the drinks. I finally got my turkey burger and it was burnt and had a fried cheese on it. I asked for the Gouda and it was not correct. The waiter set it down and quickly said that it did not look correct. He took it back to the kitchen. It came back and now the burger had clearly been seared again and the same wrong cheese was on it. It was not edible. They did comp the burger but I was left without a meal as we now just wanted to leave. I felt bad for the server as he did not cook it, however he did try to serve it to me. I had great experiences for other Smokey Bones locations but am now at the point that we will never return to this chain. read more

Stopped in after an early evening movie. It was around 10pm on a Saturday. The place was almost empty which is pretty typical for Erie at this time. We were quickly seated. Service was prompt. The beer selection was disappointing with only the big names available except for a Smokely's option which I ordered. It came in an unfrosted mug which was another disappointment. I ordered the turkey burger and the lady ordered the club. Both with fries. Both meals were good and what one would expect for a chain. The cost was reasonable. The atmosphere was ok and made better by the light patronage this evening. It was a football night so being able to catch glimpses of the game was a plus. For a chain I rate Smokeys as A-ok and a do again on occasion. It's too plain for more frequent visits. read more

Been there a couple times since the remodel. We are very happy with the updated interior but the food quality seems to have been downgraded. The pulled pork came as medium sized chunks - not really 'pulled' - and the brisket had the texture and taste of microwaved meat. Went with 4 adults. All of us loved all of our food. Crowd Pleaser appetizer was perfect and yummy. (Loaded fries??? OhmyYummyness!!!!) Went on a Friday eve at 630 pm, we were seated and tended to within 5 minutes!!! Eating probably within 10 I think. Great time, great service. We had a lot of fun with our waitress. Giving her a hard time about the little computer kiosk at the table. We made her do it. Haha.... We like the old fashioned way of communicating through a human server. I was here just last night getting there around 9:20. The restaurant was not busy at all. We were greeted shortly after sitting and had a 4th person join around 5 minutes later. The server did not come back to take our orders for a good 10-15 minutes. When our food finally came out, around a 30-40 min wait in a dead restaurant, it was all cooked incorrectly and or missing items. My steak and another's steak were burnt and extremely well done when ordered medium. There was bacon missing from a sandwich and the sides were cold and unappetizing. All throughout this our server was switching from the man who took our order to another woman. They took back our steaks and brought back steaks that were done the same as the first. I took one bite of my steak and it tasted like straight charcoal and I couldn't finish it. We had to flag down other servers for drink refills and our check took a long time to get a hold of. Even though I told my server my food was inedible I was still given a $25 check. Since I didn't eat any of my meal except for a side salad I asked the server to take my steak off my check because I couldn't eat it. He took it off and that's the only reason I'm giving one star. He then proceeded to blame me for choosing the steak because they aren't a steakhouse and they don't know how to cook steak and he said they use no seasoning. Don't have it on your menu if people shouldn't order it. Overall awful customer service and poor tasting food. I'm a server myself and would never treat a table like this :( read more

We come here every time we are in Erie. Catchy sayings all throughout the restaurant. I usually get the barbecue chicken. It comes with two sides & is $14.29. Reasonable & delicious. Kiersten is an excellent server. They have a great turkey burger & great Sangrias. The good is consistently good. read more

The food reminded me of applebees more than a BBQ place. The highlight of the meal was the baked beans. Pulled pork was dry and BBQ chicken was not BBQ chicken, but a flat small dry piece of chicken. read more

Unfortunately, the wait was a half hour and they forgot to register our buzzer. As we sat at the bar watching others around us being seated, we pondered whether they had forgotten us. After seeing how disorganized the kitchen was, and observing customer's food left out under the heat lamps for 10-15 minutes, we decided to leave. The bartenders were great, but the management and kitchen staff need some serious training.
