This is your typical bar food. We went because it was literally in the parking lot of our hotel. The food was decent, but definitely didn't stand out. I had the brisket grilled cheese. It had the potential to be great, but the bread was dry and over-toasted and there wasn't enough cheese. A grilled cheese should have an extraordinary cheese pull and this just DIDN'T. Overall, if you're hungry and staying at either of the two hotels next to this spot, it'll get the job done. Otherwise, hold out for something better. read more

Me and my friends went in there last night and we asked for a waitress because we like our personality and she is a great waitress. Well we went when we went in and the manager and the host both said she left well when we were done with dinner we were going to the front And we saw our waitress. She told her she was there all day we looked at the manager he didn't even look at usDid you tell us she wasn't there and she played dumb the manager didn't even look at us. I think that was unfair. Food was great. Their signature ribs were best I have ever tasted. It was a full rack of 12 ribs and I was only able to eat 4, took 4 home and gave 4 to my daughter for her to take home for later in the week. She actually ate hers as soon as she got home and texted me the same response. The service was great too with the waitress nicely checking on us to be sure we were happy with the food and service. The ambiance was great as well. The space was well set up and I noticed everyone was happy and all the tables and booths were well spread out so service would get around but close enough that they could check on us as they passed by. They were so tender that when we tried to pick them up the meat would literally fall right off the bone!! We also has pretzel bones to start which were delicious. I got potato wedges as a Side and yum yum yum! I also got baked beans which had pulled pork mixed with them for a unique and delicious flavor! The bbq meal They bring out with the potatoes was dry, unflavored and the potatoes tasted like a underserved baked potato- no butter, just skinned potatoe quarters. I would not recommend this place. It is over priced for beyond lousy service and food. Save yourself the headache. Best part of the meal was the local fire dept riding through the lot with Santa. What here can improve? I'm gonna go with a little hazy, foggy pun or play on words or whatever you'd like to call this segue into this review. It deals with the idea that if you can get through the smokiness of Smokey Bones, you might find a few enjoyable food items. Basically, they're decent. This three star review stems from a recent takeout of their grub with my fiancée and my parents. We did our menu perusing via the app and found that SB has quite the variety of barbecue options. All the usual meats you desire plus a few apps and sides to round out the choices. We decided to share some skillet cornbread and fried pickles as apps and then went our own ways for main meals. The fiancée and I each chose the pick-two meat combos which were reasonably-priced to start, but most of the interesting sides cost a bit of an extra charge. An annoying way to set things up, though not horrible. Once ordered, it was about 30 minutes before we were told to pick up the food. I drove over with my dad and found the interior of Smokey Bones to be cozy with a little rustic/smokehouse feel. I definitely was digging the ambiance, but the edible items have to win out in the end. Also friendly staff helps and I'll give them credit that when we walked in, the food was ready to go and we were in, out, and home rather quickly. Now comes the eats. The fried pickles were tangy with a nice light breading, though a tad oily (definitely didn't hold up well on a reheat the next day, which we expected). The skillet cornbread was soft and fresh with a little sweetness. For me, my two-meat combo consisted of pulled pork and smoked sausage with broccoli and potato wedges on the side. The sausage was good, though not necessarily smokey. I'll give the most credit to the pulled pork as there was no fat and a juicy and flavorful consistency (for the most part). No credit goes to the potato wedges as they were hard and dry. I barely touched them. Oh, and the broccoli? Solid, but it's tough to ruin a vegetable (usually). Meanwhile over on my fiancée's combo meal, she had the jalapeño cheddar sausage which had a little kick though seemed quite similar to my regular sausage. She also got chicken wings which were just bleh. I took one bite and the sauce (I think it was honey Buffalo) didn't do much and the chicken itself was flavorless. I will say her mac and cheese side was delish. My parents also enjoyed their rack of ribs that they split so there was a little more positive from that realm. Overall, Smokey Bones has some flashes of flavors, but you have to get through the aforementioned hazy fog of flavorlessness in order to find it. Knowing that we had a sub-par meal might keep us from returning, but now that we do know a few items to order (and to definitely stay away from), it's possible a return trip could take place, especially if the ambiance and service can add to the evening. The meal: 4/5 The sides were delicious & the ribs were tender. I liked the sauce options at the table better than the Spicy Honey sauce they marinated it with. Dessert: 4/5 (Banana Pudding) **Server MICHAEL was polite, attentive to our needs, & anticipated our drink needs and brought refills quickly. I give him 5/5 for his professionalism & service. While I live in Queens, & won't drive the nearly 66 miles frequently, next summer I will come to Smokey Bones after leaving Splish Splash (like I did yesterday). So disappointing. The rack of baby back ribs were overcooked, burnt and really hard to chew.. like beef jerky. Not moist at all. I love baby back ribs and have had them everywhere. THESE were the worst I ever had.. what a major disappointment. I only went here because it was in walking distance from our hotel. Never going here again. Bad decision... poor choice, but we were stuck. They know you're trapped at the hotel so of course quality doesn't matter.. you're still going to eat there or switch to Red Lobster. I ordered the barbecue add to platter which came with St Louis style ribs jalapeno cheese smoked sausage and barbecue chicken wings, plus baked beans and coleslaw. the ribs and chicken wings were pretty good but the sausage was a little overcooked and dry. the baked beans were delicious but the coleslaw was missing something because it was just bland. I would probably go back to give them another try and to have another one of those delicious cocktails. read more
