Went to the new location on Missouri street for lunch for first time yesterday. Immediately upon getting out of the car we were overwhelmed by the incredibly delicious smell of hamburgers being cooked on charcoal in the parking lot. There is nothing better than hamburgers cooked over charcoal but we went to try the barbecue this time. I got the Korean beef short ribs and my husband got the beef brisket. For sides we got the collard greens, Parmesan fries, potato salad, and baked beans. The meat was excellent. I love beef ribs and these were cut across the bone and still had the delicious fat attached. If you don't like fat don't order these but for those of you that love authentically prepared beef ribs these are fantastic. The beef brisket was wonderfully smoked and these meat sliced across the grain as it should be. The sides were excellent especially the potato salad, collards, and Parmesan fries. Ok, at first walking into the restaurant it is clean and we were greeted promptly. You can choose to do take out or dine-in. We dined in and were impressed by moist tender spare ribs, crispy edged tender brisket, the sauce on these were delicious. We also had the Philly cheesesteak was yummy a hoagie bread buttered and toasted filled with shaved meat with peppers, onions topped with melted cheese. We also had the korean short ribs and they were perfectly seasoned with a yummy mac n cheese and garlic parmesan cheese fries were perfect! We will be back! Rudy's has nothing on this place. Very nice service. The restaurant is small and clean. The three meat combo was just ok. I chose baby back ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. The brisket was the best out of the three. Too bad that it was a very small amount. The pulled pork yet flavorful, was chewy, not tender. The baby back rib was not a baby back rib. It was a tasteless, boiled St Louis rib. I felt ripped off. I also ordered the burnt ends. They were just overcooked, dry, no fat leftover pieces of meat. No way was that burnt ends. Expensive and disappointed. I will not go back. read more

This restaurant--where Days Hamburgers used to be--has a lot of kinks to be worked out before I can root for it. First of all, the man running the cash register was a real sourpuss. There was no friendly greeting, and in addition to running the register he was also in charge of getting people their beverages but was incapable of doing both. We waited 30 mins for the drinks that we paid for. Then, the food itself--a burger and fries and a pulled pork sandwich and onion rings--took 45 mins to arrive. There is only one cook, and they make the orders in the order they get put in. I'm not sure if there is a more efficient way to run that small kitchen, but it's annoying. WRT the food: it cost $34, the pork sandwich and the (frozen) onion rings tasted good, the burger was good, the fries were meh. The atmosphere would be better if there hadn't been loud TV noise blaring. I won't go out of my way to eat there again and predict that, unlike the prior tenant of the space, this BBQ joint is going to have a short tenure. read more

The food and service was great and it's a comfortable, down home kind of vibe--what more can you want? We met the first owner right away and he made us feel welcome and helped me pick my order. I got the two meat platter with jerk chicken and brisket and a side of collard greens. Where else can you get collard greens in town?? And these were excellent. Both meats were great too. The jerk has just enough spice that most people can handle it and anyone who likes spice won't think it's spicy. The barbecue sauce on the incredibly tender brisket was delicious and I was taking advantage of all of it, scooping it up with my collards. My husband got the brisket with yellow rice, collard greens, and baked beans and loved everything. The servers were very helpful and friendly and we also met one of the chefs. Before we left, we ended up meeting and chatting with the second owner too and he was also very friendly and made sure our experience had been good. This place is incredibly delicious. I come to Las Cruces every once in a while for work and I have never found a restaurant here where I really want to go back. That all changed today. Blackened salmon was perfectly grilled and delicious. Mac & cheese is probably the best Mac I have ever tasted. The yellow rice had perfect texture and flavor. Corn on the cob was boiled which I usually don't like but they somehow made even this taste incredible. Service was super quick. Tons of seafood options which is super rare for a barbecue place. We are a family of 4 traveling from the Texas Hill Country to Colorado. We wanted some BBQ. This is the place suggested through maps. It is an unassuming location, but boy are we glad we went. My husband said the onion rings that came with the amazing brisket melt sandwich are the best he has ever had. My son's smash burger was delicious. First we walk in and sit down and wait to be seated. The food smells amazing. I was offered water which was very nice. Now I have memory issues so I am terrible with names but oh my goodness the people there helped make my Birthday one of the best EVER. The food has so much flavor and the conversation was froendly and funny. We didn't tell them right away it was my Birthday but we asked for cheesecake. They make their cheesecake and the apple caramel sounded so good. The cheesecakes are so good that they were out. They were going to give me a slice of one that was not for sale and when my husband said it was my birthday, they gave me the cheesecake. I cried. I am crying now. The food was mouth watering. My son had a double smash burger that he said was amazing, my husband had carne asada nachos and I had the pastrami Hoagie. All were very good. This place is amazing , the owner Chris is always so welcoming !! Only my second trip here and they still took us after closing and made an amazing veggie burger and salad for me !! The owner personally prepared my meal and made modifications for all of my dietary restrictions. I got the jerk chicken and mixed veggies on my first visit and the chicken was spicy and well seasoned !! My husband got the Korean short ribs and he also cleaned his plate and loved the food !! After waiting for several months to let this new business work out the kinks I ventured over to check the new operation out. The owners have completed a nice renovation making the restaurant so much more attractive and brighter than the old Day's Hamburgers. While the furniture is not the most comfortable, it is practical. The owners are very friendly and one in particular spends a lot of time out among the customers. The service is just fine. The restaurant offers BBQ, burgers, and burritos. All with assorted smoked meats. Their prices are a little steep for the burger and burrito meals...I would say around 15 percent higher than a lot of places around town. I ordered the Jerk Chicken Burrito and the double smash burger with a drink and fries. They charge only around $2.50 or so for a soft drink but they also charge for refills. Fries are a whopping $5.00 but you can make your burger a combo meal by adding a drink and fries for an additional $4.00. Today's burger combo came out to $16.00 not including tax. The food prep time has had some internet complaints over the past few months but my food was ready in ten to fifteen minutes. So, what about the food? The burrito came out first. The flour tortilla was heated, a bit flakey, and just fine. The ingredients inside included lettuce, onion, and tomato, All were fresh. They also had some mayo inside. The chicken had a little char on it but the small diced bits of chicken had little flavor as the little bits were chopped too small to taste....a common complaint I have with many restaurants, But, overall, this was a pretty good burrito...such as it was. Rate it a "B." The double smashburger combo meal came with a bunch of fries. They were the thinner variety and not at all greasy. But, these fries were a bit chewy and had little flavor. Not great fries. Rate them a "C." The burger had a nice, soft, flavorful bun. A big plus is that the burger was not greasy. It came with cheese and a flavorful sauce. Lettuce, pickle slices, tomato, and onion slivers were on the side. The burger patties were a tad pink in the middle but cooked just fine. The seasonings were excellent. Although I did not detect much smoke the burger had a nice flavor. Rate it a "B+" meaning very good. But, I would not say it was "sensational." So, in the final analysis, a casual, nice ambiance with friendly service, prices a bit higher than the norm, and burgers and jerk chicken burritos that are quite good. The fries are forgettable. Unfortunately, I didn't experience their plates or BBQ. For the overall dining experience rate Smokey Sensations around THREE AND THREE QUARTER to FOUR STARS...meaning well above average to good. read more
