My fiancé and I were running errands a couple days ago and decided to stop in for a late lunch. Only a couple customers were there so there were plenty of tables to sit. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. My fiancé actually left his card by the cashier on accident and they came by our table and gave it to him. The food was so good. If you order anything get the sausage & ribs. The flavors of the jalapeño & cheddar in the sausage was mouthwatering. Brisket was pretty good too. You will not be disappointed. A family friendly, divey feel to the restaurant, and the incredible smells of barbecue brisket and pork smokin as you walk in. This place has indoor seating available, around 8-10 tables fitting about 5 people per table. We were able to order and get our food in a quick amount of time. This little gem is so far the best BBQ I've had in Omaha to date. I stumbled upon it by accident, as the location is pretty far off the normal path of most people, but happens to be in the same (kinda dead/dated) shopping center as my dog's groomer! Nice folks with homemade bbq sauces (I recommend the bourbon and the hot bbq sauce) and some killer ribs, brisket, chicken. Smokin Barrell Barabecue. Small place located in the Discovery Plaza a bit off the beaten path. It sits adjacent to a residential area and off of the Main Street. Nothing fancy and that is not expected. 10 tables and order at the counter. Blackboard menu. Meats include pork, brisket, sausage, turkey and ribs. One of a very few places that has turkey on the regular menu Order your meat by the 1/4 or 1/2 pound. Plates come with 1/2 pound of meat and two sides. Sides are limited and consist of your choice of potato salad, baked beans or coleslaw. Chips are a dollar extra. Pull your drinks from a refrigerator. Pork was slightly dry and not a lot of flavor or smoke but some good char. Ribs were fall off the bone and were tasty with a good smoke flavor. Coleslaw was good and baked beans were a bit more savory and less sweet. Three sauces to choose from. Sweet, spicy or bourbon. Some really like the bourbon sauce, but not for me. I didn't find the spicy to be that good alone, but if you mix it with sweet it works out pretty well. Remember, the restaurant is only open for lunch from 11am to 2pm and is NOT open for dinner. Not my favorite barbecue in the Omaha area, but very good, so if you are in the Millard area, you should definitely stop in during lunch and check it out. read more

When I ordered it up, they LOADED it with moist brisket. When I got to the counter I asked if I could swap it out with lean brisket (cause I don't like fat...and I know, I was the "that guy"). Smokin Barrel is probably the best BBQ that I've had in Omaha. It's in a small strip mall in old Millard and is a very basic/bare bones restaurant. No real service, no free water, just a serve and go. Good: -Brisket is probably the best in Omaha. Flavor, texture, juiciness was all there. No complaints at all here. -Potato salad was very solid. Not the best I've had but flavorful. -Beans were good sides, I liked the chunks of pork in it. -Value was excellent for a BBQ place. The prices are very reasonable and simply put. I think that the plates are pretty good value and pretty much the same price as the meat by the pound. -BBQ sauces were all very solid and flavorful. Bad: -I was very disappointed with the ribs. Perhaps it's because I went for dinner and not lunch, but the texture was off. I noticed that other pictures had a much better crust/texture on their ribs. Mine were very soft, with no crust on the outside at all. The tenderness on the interior was good and so was the flavor; was just disappointed with these in general. -Coleslaw was very basic; nothing special. Almost tastes store bought. -Basic utilities were lacking (free water cups). Overall, I had a great experience at Smokin Barrel. I think that if they have a bit better consistency with the ribs, add a few more sides, and have some basic utilities, I would definitely bump my rating up to 5 stars. read more

Delicious brisket !!!! This location is a bit out of the way for me but I'll be out quite regularly now that I've discovered some damn delicious bbq here in Omaha. I tried the two meat and added on a third, comes with two sides, I chose potato salad and beans. Both delicious. The sausage and ribs were terrific too but that Brisket was incredible delicious....like my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Can't wait to go back and try the burnt ends, which I believe is Saturday only. My three meat was broken into 3 meals, believe it or not, so incredibly good value too. You can choose bread or no bread (rotellas) and if you like they will put onions pickles and jalapeño on the side as well. Couple of sauces to choose from. All tasty but honestly didn't need it. A very unassuming location in the corner spot in a strip mall. The big clue was the sheer number of cars in the parking lot on a Friday - this place was hopping. A straight forward menu - I ordered a Texas plate (brisket and sausage) and the wife got the Pork plate. We both got sides of coleslaw ($3) and baked beans ($4). Honestly - the best brisket I've had outside of Texas. Stellar flavor, texture, and smokiness. The pulled pork was juicy and perfect. The baked beans were an absolute highlight - packed with meat and flavor. My only gripe - maybe a little fatty brisket option? So spectacularly good I'm already planning my next stop in. Normally when I go out for BBQ, I go for pulled pork. When I come back here though, I'm coming for the brisket! My husband and I shared a 2 meat plate with brisket and pulled pork, beans, and potato salad. The pulled pork was standard but the brisket was phenomenal - fork tender with flavorful and crispy bark. Beans were good with big chunks of meat and wasn't overly sweet like some bbq joints. Pretty sure I've purchased this exact potato salad at the grocery store, but there were no undercooked potatoes (which I loathe) in it so it was a win. Sweet sauce was basic but the Bourbon and Spicy sauces were great (especially mixed). Not in this area often but I'll make a point to stop in again the next time I am! read more
