A find. I'm always in search of a good Q and this place meets those criteria to a T. I had the St. Louis rib and brisket combo and my wife had a half chicken. Incredible food and, yet....when we asked for our expensive craft beer PINTS to be topped off to BE a pint, the server told us he'd been instructed by the owner to pour an inch head (which removes 4 oz of a pint). And when we explained that, HE STILL DIDN'T TOP OFF OUR BEERS. Hostess told us to wait to get a table ready, 10 minutes pass by and I see her walking around the restaurant and then getting buckets of ice. I asked a waiter if we were going to be seated soon and replied with "yeah she's getting your table ready" all while not looking up from the screen. 15 minutes go by and That same waiter looks at me and ask me if if ready like he's been the one waiting. Then he proceeds to tell us "well you need to order quickly like now because our kitchen closes in 5 minutes, it's fine you can sit just get your order quick". You had us waiting for 15 minutes and you didn't bother to tell us that your kitchen closes in 15 minutes and you're now rushing us and giving us attitude? The worst customer service! Exactly what we were craving after a long day's hike! Great BBQ, great value, and friendly service. My 2 friends and I ordered the Not So Teeny Wahini platter on our server's recco since we were famished -- it was perfect! Half roast chicken, half rack of ribs, 1/4 lb brisket and 1/4 lb. pulled pork with 4 sides. It was the perfect amount of food for 3 hungry people (2 women and a guy). The chicken was melt-in-your-mouth, meat sliding off the bone delicious, with crispy seasoned skin. The brisket, pork and ribs all had great smoke flavor, and the greasy salty charred bits were lick-the-plate amazing. Sweet potato and regular fries were both excellent (yes we got both), and the only side I wouldn't order again were the spiced apples (just ok, nothing special). Green beans were good too if you like grease. We finished everything except a few fries and the apples. Service was great, but the food seemed to take a while to come out... especially since there were only 1-2 other tables with people eating. But once it did, it was fantastic. Yummy! As usual, I wanted to try all the sides. I think I like the sides even more than the Q. I tried the Carolina pulled pork and some of the husband's ribs. A bit of the chicken tender too. Happy that it was real chicken and not some pale imitation. The ribs were a bit drier and sweeter than I'm used to, and the pulled pork, though nice and wet, seemed a bit too greasy. The flavor was good overall. Sauces lean to the sweet side too. I liked the very hard-boiled-egg-y potato salad, and the nicely done sweet potato and regular fries. Nice fresh and crispy cole slaw. I want to go back and try the various beans, maybe the BBQ chicken and one of the salads. Tons of beers if you're into that sort of thing. It is CO after all. Mixed drinks all seemed a bit odd, lots of spiced Captain Morgan's and flavored concoctions. I'd try the hard cider if I were in a drinking mood. The sweet tea was pretty good, not too sweet. Good service, food and drinks came out promptly and accurately. Nice patio with a lovely mountain view and a lot of room inside too if you're looking to sit at the friendly looking bar or inside with the A/C. After being a regular here for almost 2 years I've just had it with this place. I'd first like to note the staff is wonderful, and I believe it's Tammy? She's GREAT. The food quality however is so inconsistent it's painful, and it's pretty damn low quality for what they charhe on some things. $20 flavorless steaks, the most wilted lettuce you will ever receive for a sandwhich, and different portion sizes EVERY time. If you're shopping on a budget, deffinitely check it out...just don't expect much. And of you're calling in a group order for more than 2 people, go somewhere else...otherwise just anticipate 'everything' being wrong. I've done at least 6 group orders here and it's just the worst. Their bars pretty nice, and the patio seating is a plis...just don't expect too much when it comes to food quality. read more

This place was pretty good. The portions are huge and the service was pretty good (a little on the slow side, but nice and friendly). The yelp deal ($30 for $15) works so I'd recommend using it. There are lots of sauces on the table- the spicy sauce was my favorite. They have Carolina mustard, but being the South Carolina native that I am, it wasn't what I expected. It was more of a mixture of a vinegar, tomato, mustard sauce. It was dark in color--not golden like I'm used to. It wasn't terrible though. I'd recommend the chicken and pulled pork for the meats. Dude! No wait...DUDE!!! We really liked the Lyons rendition of the old Estes fav. In fact ... having been to the Estes location many times, we actually found the servings at the Lyons location to be WAY more juicy, savory and delicious. Also - the servings are a GREAT value... I had their HUGE salad w/ brisket on top (I forget the name on the menu): Steak salads always miss something - poorly cooked/maintained/dry bbq or not enough greens...SD's was right on! Piles of brisket on top of a mountain of greens with...yep, you know it - some BACON! This delicious trough of roughage & meat made friends in my gullet with a hefty pour of Avery Golden Monkey...oh so delicious! The Mr ordered "The Pitmaster": A gigantic ciabatta bed w/brisket & pulled pork hiding a sausage underneath. The portion of fries was falling off of the basket, burying a little treasure-side of cole slaw. Wary that the sausage would be spicy, Mr-wuss-about-the-heat really enjoyed it and was advised correctly by the waiter. I didn't catch the waiter's name, but he was knowledgeable and fun to talk with; he had a slight rush with an 8-top as well as several couples in the booths/tables about the room but he handled us all like a pro. Oh - you have a choice of bbq sauces - sampling them all makes the experience that much more fun. Kinda like Ihop several decades ago, except bbq sauce on meat instead of a variety of syrups on pan-cakes. Great place for a fun, family meal. Our family of five arrived on a Friday night and fully expected to wait 30 minutes or more for a table. Instead we were shown to a booth right away. The servers are amazing, quick and friendly. Food is tasty and the prices are very fair. Kids meals are basically an adults meal, maybe 1/3 smaller. If visiting nearby Estes Park, there is also a Smokin Dave's there as well, but we have found the Lyons location easier to get into. read more

Stopped there for lunch today and it was really really good. I love the seasoning for the sweet potato fries with smoky chipotle, what seemed like anise seed, and salt and other good things. The "Southern style" green beans were more haricot verts with bacon and onions and a real treat. My St. Louis style ribs were beautifully smoky-pink, amazingly moist for high altitude BBQ, and meaty enough that the four-rib platter was more than enough for me. My husband had the sandwich with four different kinds of meat on it, the french fries, and coleslaw, and he was very pleased. My man and I enjoyed a delicious meal here on out way back toward Denver from Estes Park. I wish we had each ordered the Man-Handler! We ordered one Man-Handler and one bowl of the green chili, with intentions to share and get to try both. But, I could have eaten a whole burger myself! Perfectly juicy medium rare, with crisp smoky sweet bacon, and pulled pork! Sooooo good. Sweet potato fries were the perfect accompaniment. Favorite sauces were chipotle or tangy for the fries and sweet for dipping the burger just before a bite. Chocolate peanut butter pie for dessert was over the top. Only complaint was feeling rushed. We didn't realize they closed moments after we walked in the door. When we felt rushed we first asked what time they closed, but were told it was "all good". We then looked for the hours to find out if that was why, which it was. It felt a bit awkward. I am big on open and honest communications so would have just rather known the employees were trying to wrap up, clean up, and close up. We would definitely come back. In the meantime, I am going to attempt to recreate that burger at home! read more

The service was fabulous; Bianca was a great waitress. We didn't have to ask for our drinks (water, tea, soda) to be refilled because she did this in a timely fashion. Best part of my trip (besides the scenery) to Rocky Mountain National Park. Started early and got to the park early to hike around to get there before the crowds. Pulled out around noon and wanted to have lunch in Estes Park but it WAS SO PACKED FULL OF PEOPLE. So naturally, I said eff that and kept driving until I got to this place. I smelled it before I saw it. Me and my mom got a brisket sandwich with bleh cheese and fried onions and the meatloaf. Meatloaf was amazingly made but also pan fried. Best meatloaf I've ever had in my life. Brisket was amazing and didn't even need sauce. So Smokey. Plus they had this corn bake stuff as a side that was like a corn casserole with cheese and green chili. I would've taken a gallon of that to go. I'm telling you, don't wait in Estes just come here. Plus Luis was an amazing waiter and gave us great service!!! Apple cobbler for desert was for sure not needed as I was sure I would explode, but was absolutely delicious. read more

Yum! Perfect Carolina Pulled Pork! Perfect cole slaw! Perfect green beans! Great service and cool bar! We sat at the bar and ate. I had a Long Island Iced Tea and enjoyed it thoroughly! The bartender was great, checking on us often and engaging in nice conversation! I loved the cool, quiet atmosphere and that our food came quickly. Oh what a surprise! A most wonderful and delightful surprise at that. Starting with the hostesses who were very perky, polite, and eager to help, you feel welcome at the onset. Seating was quick and the chairs were very comfortable which made the short wait for the food very tolerable. The marble tables were clean and well appointed with all necessary dinnerware. Ha! Wondering when I would get to the food? I've been to some mighty fine restaurants and the taste and the warmth of the food at serving time.... perfection. Service was great from the beginning to the end of our visit. The food was amazing! Started with the stuffed mushrooms even though we knew it would probably be too much food. They were delicious and worth the extra full belly. Then onto the "fall off the bone" ribs. They were so good. No room for dessert but everything on the menu sounded really tempting. I've been up to the Smokin Daves in Estes Park and loved it! But my experience at the one in Lyons was awful. We sat down at our table and the booth seat was completely detached. When I sat down on one end, the other flew up. There were flies buzzing all around us at our table and our waitress was extremely rude and condescending. I ordered my burger medium rare and when I got it, it was very dry and had no pink in it. The sweet potato fries were very good though. I would be able to get past the unfriendly and dirty environment if the food was actually good. Would not recommend. read more
