Visiting from Maryland. Enjoyed this clean, BBQ and Taphouse Restaurant 2 times. Inside (booth and bar seating) and outside seating (high tops and picnic tables. The selection of local CO beers were vast and your treasured favorite was there too. Tastes available. The tenderness of the brisket only a skilled BBQ'er could obtain. Portions are good size. Walls are decorated in the history of the area and the menus are "news paper" with fun facts and laughs. Check out desserts - Pecan Kentucky Bourbon Pie to go! Yummo ! I was visiting my friend and colleague Ken Wajda at his studio sale and met the owner of Smokin'Dave's. I mentioned that I'd be over to watch part of the Broncos' game. They have a really good beer selection. I read the menu and I'm not much of a wet bbq fan since the sauce is always an X factor. Their best deal are the platters. For one meat and two sides is $13.95 - I tried the ribs (4 bones). They had a great rub and a light sauce, the perfect mix for a dry rub fan, such as I. Stopped in at about 1:45pm, got seated rather quickly. And then the wait. 5, 10, 15 minutes went by, nobody stopped by our booth, not even to give us water. So, got up and left. I'd like you to think of your favorite BBQ. If you thought of anything other than Smokin' Dave's, you're lying to yourself. I ordered the naked (no sauce) wings. I was halfway through my first wing and stopped. Not from my tears of joy, but because I didn't know wings could taste this good. The spices were a perfect combination of savory and sweet. The tenderness of the meat was soft but not soggy, juicy but not greasy. The slight crisp of the fried outer skin, wondrous. The smoke lightly touched every ounce. All textures and tastes working in harmony. Chuck Norris only cried once, and it was after he finished his first plate of wings at Smokin' Dave's. The movie "Love Actually" borrowed it's name from a wing experience here. Thoughts of these wings drive people to confession. I no longer remember my first kiss... The Carolina pulled pork was fall off the bone tender and such good flavor it didn't need any sauce. Speaking of BBQ sauce my one disappointment was they did not have the North Carolina style vinegar based sauce. But the 4 sauces offered were good. Smashed potatoes recommended for sides. read more

I am from Texas so I was not looking forward to eating BBQ in Colorado. I had the thought that it would be bland and dry. My daughter and I just happened to see this place while waiting in traffic and hungry so we took the chance. We arrived about 11:30 and just beat the crowd that was there when we left. I had the brisket with the smashed potatoes and green beans with sweet tea. I was very surprised with how well my brisket tasted. Was it the best of my life, no (I did say I am from Texas) but my brisket was flavorful and juicy enough. I did think it was cut a little thin but that was minor. The sauces on the table really complemented it and gave it a sweet kick. The smashed potatoes and green beans were also tasty. It came with a corn bread muffin that was good but it was cold. It threw me off a little when I bit into it. The sweet tea could have been sweeter but whatever. Overall if I was in the area I would eat here again. read more

We often get it to go, and get generous portions of consistently good brisket. And as of our last visit they upped the quality of service as well. Previously, the kids would not include bbq sauce in our orders, and would ask me if I wanted my change..? And I am a tipper (even on to-go orders). Seamed like a nice atmosphere with friendly staff. I ordered an aged Ribeye medium rare, coleslaw, green beans. Place was dead on a Saturday afternoon at 430. Medium rare steak took 27 minutes? Pros: Friendly service. Nice draft selection. Cole slaw was adequate. Cider was nice Cons: medium rare here means medium well and was absolutely tasteless. Also it was flossy. Beans were rubbery. There are quite a few fun restaurants to try in Lyons (to my surprise!), such as the "Oskar Blues Brew House", a more upscale joint that has a fun funky vibe "Fork", and a margarita/cantina joint also. BBQ just sounded too good to pass up so we found ourselves at Smokin' Dave's. We got a little of everything, both choosing the double entree platter (fat kids) that comes with two sides and cornbread. The chicken, ribs, and pulled pork were amaaaaazing! The brisket was just OK, but still cooked perfectly, just not much taste to it. I would skip the corn on the cob for sides (totally frozen or something) and make SURE to get the baked beans, loaded up with bacon and maple flavor and all kinds of goodness. read more

We drove over to Lyons from Loveland, on a beautiful fall day, to visit this location yesterday. I had the Pitmaster, no bun....brisket, pulled pork, and jalapeno cheddar sausage...with two sides of cole slaw. Friend had the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries and cole slaw. This location doesn't disappoint...same deliciousness here in Lyons as is in Estes Park. Our waitress, Susan, was great, as were the other employees. read more

This place looks and feels like the type of place you imagine in a mountain town. It's a rustic chic shack next to another rustic chic antique store with a big porch that declares "Hogwash" on its external signage. The folks who work at both are very friendly. The menu is almost exhaustive with choices. Fried, smoked, chopped? We went with the burger (for me). A little more well done than I'd wished, but good. My husband got the ribs. He gave them a solid 8 out of 10, and couldn't complain about the hefty portion that lasted him 2 meals and a snack. The fries were decent, but the onion rings were way over breaded for my tastes. After a playin' hooky day to Estes Park, I stopped here for a early dinner, and liked the roadhouse type vibe. The old license plates decorating the walls and the back of the bar, the old posters, rusted vintage signs, and the blues music overhead made the ambiance restful. I chose the catfish entrée, and "smashed potatoes" and sautéed green beans for sides. The portions were so generous, I took half home for my lunch the next day. I must say, though, to get the check just ten minutes after getting served, with the "there's no rush" saying did dull the mood -- even though there were very few other patrons. Very tasty and reasonably priced. My friends split a 3 meat bbq plate with a half chicken, pulled pork, and sausage - everything came out very tender, and the sauces was nice. I had the fried catfish, with a side of red beans and rice, slaw, and cornbread. Went here as an alternate location to the always - busy one in Estes. Same good food, according to my father-in-law. It was a light crowd since it was the middle of the week. Prompt service. Three of us got the chicken fried steak. They had a unique, mushroom - based gravy on top that my wife didn't like since she doesn't like mushrooms at all, even the hint of mushroom flavor. The steaks were very overcooked, even for just being fried flank steaks, so I knocked a star off for the entree. I knocked another star down due to the lack of a baby changing station in the men's room. This service is a must-have in the modern world where fathers help out with dirty diapers. My two sides were spot-on: slaw and red beans and rice. They also have a nice selection of craft beers. read more

Yay! This restaurant has been a great addition to the Lyons Restaurant scene. They have really done a nice job with the decor, and their food is top notch. I am a Texas girl originally, so I am a bit picky about my barbecue...their ribs are FABULOUS! The BBQ beans...yum! Have I mentioned the fried pickles? To top it off, the owners are very nice and attentive and the staff is happy! We've been there several times now, and always had a great experience. We are so excited to have them in town. Good bbq and a pretty good value especially if you get the 3 meat combo between a few people. A few gripes: I ordered a lemonade and they gave me some nasty country time powdered misery. When they aren't having live music (which I've always enjoyed) they play the most depressing county mixed tape that I think exists in this realm. Well the food really good. It was hot and fresh I was pleased with the food itself. The reason why I'm giving them 3 stars is because the manager seen that we had been waiting on a server to come to our table for over 15 minutes. It was rustic looking and you could smell the smoked n BBQ goodness from the side of the road- totally made my mouth water. Tortilla chips smothered in cheese, beans, brisket, pulled porked with a side of salsa, chopped jalapenos and red chile. Oh my goodness- what a meal! The nachos show up quick and then came our three meat platter. Smoked n BBQ brisket, pulled pork and BBQ chicken with a side of flavorful BBQ and less than impressive potato salad. That's the only thing bad thing I would really have to say. It was watery and besides, my mother in law makes the best potato salad anyway. The meat was warm and tender, slow cooked goodness in my mouth. So good that I had to lay down on the pic in bench after. I really enjoyed tasting all the BBQ sauces they had on the table. Man down, man down with BBQ sauce all over my face. It was such a great time there with great food and thanks to Yelp, our bill was only $5. Had lunch here yesterday while in Lyons with a friend. Ordered the Pitmaster sandwich combo that was the largest sandwich I have ever seen I think. Barely could eat the entire thing it was that big. Came with brisket, pulled pork and a jalapeno smoked sausage. I think it would have been better if the sausage was sliced up inside instead of being whole. Wish they would chop up the brisket instead of slice it. Overall probably the best barbecue sandwich combo ever I would say. Much better experience here today than the last time I was in here. read more

YUM! This place is a hidden gem in Lyons. I found this on Yelp traveling out of Rocky Mountain National Park. The food is exactly as you'd expect - healthy big portions with loads of meat. I loved it! Definitely recommend the peanut butter chocolate cake if you still have room. read more
