2 meat platter with pork ribs and pulled pork, sweet potato fries and potato salad
    Stephanie C.

3.5-4 stars - this place does the trick if you're looking for fast, casual bbq with hefty portions for a good price. The interior is casual and the smoky smells wafting from the kitchen instantly draw you in. We ordered the onion rings to start that were HUGE and they also came out in record time after we ordered which was a little alarming. Are they not made fresh? Anyway, they had a nice crunch but the breading was pretty heavy and the onions slid right out. The bbq ranch it came with was pretty good. My husband got the heart attack and he enjoyed the pulled pork and the gravy although the biscuits were quite dense. He really liked the meal, but the fries didn't taste very fresh, not crispy and a little mushy so we didn't eat much of that. The corn bread is ok. It crumbles when you put butter on it but the flavor is decent. I ordered the 2 meat platter with pork ribs and pulled pork. I love ribs and any chance I can get to order them I will. I was first taken with how big a portion it was. The meat was good, but definitely not the fall off the bone smoky meat I was hoping for. They reminded me of ribs from your classic bbq chain restaurant. Again, not bad and will do the trick but I've certainly had better. Same with the pulled pork. It was a bit dried out with not a ton of flavor so I had to dress it quite a bit in sauce. The sauces were all alright. I preferred the spicy bbq. The potato salad was really good. It was the perfect temp and very flavorful. The sweet potato fries were good too. Overall, we enjoyed our quick & casual dinner and would return.

Pleasant staff. Reasonably priced. Food was excellent. $8 for a 22 ounce local IPA (coffee stout) and $3 for a 22 ounce PBR. Couldn't finish the burgers and sweet potato fries (plate was overflowing). Loved the onion ring appetizer too. Live music was just setting up as we left. Great rustic vibe and clean bathrooms sans graffiti even!! Will definitely go back

Delicious chicken and brisket. The collards and slaw were wonderful too. Our server, Sonia, was extremely helpful. She made sure we were thoroughly take care of.

Was craving BBQ so headed to Smokin Dave's while on our road trip. There's a large patio with picnic tables and plenty of room inside. There are 4 sauces on the table and I loved mixing the sweet original and the spicy and absolutely dousing my pulled pork sandwich. If you like pickles on your sandwich ask for extra. The cornbread and bbq baked beans were stellar. Each dish comes with a side and if you choose the mixer (2 meats) you get 2 sides. The mac n cheese was also good but dipping the jalapeño hushpuppies into the cheesy Mac really took them to another level. It was not the best brisket I've ever had but the sauces were good. Really solid option if traveling through Lyons!

Cute little spot in Lyons. Mondays is wing day. $5 wings. Couldn't beat that! Got the sweet chili, barbecue, and hot wings. Very good! Was really hoping for the wings to taste like they were smoked though. Definitely tasted deep fried. Excellent though.

Came here for lunch over the holiday weekend. It being a holiday, we knew it was going to be busy and were prepared to wait. The gal at the hostess stand told me 30minutes and added my name to the waitlist. She said we could hangout in the front lot and she would call my name when our table was ready. 50 minutes went by so, I went inside to check on our status also noticing a handful of new groups/guests were walking in and not coming out (soon to find out that they were being seated). There was a different gal at the front so, I asked her if our table was going to be ready soon, not waiting a second before she asked me how many and sat us immediately (the waitlist was not visible/no longer existed)-- we were all rather annoyed. Once we sat it took a bit for a waitress to come over (a few more tables were sat after us, had immediate service and were brought waters). Once our server came over she took our drink & food order. We waited a bit for a our drinks and the food was on the quicker side. We ordered Wings (ranch and wings were a table favorite), fried pickles (pretty good/heavy breading), bison ribs (great flavor), Texas brisket (VERY DRY), nachos with brisket (very heavy on the cheese super light on the rest of the toppings), potato salad (very tasty), sautéed green beans (no flavor & arrive with bacon which was requested without) and two side salads (that were never delivered). Service not good and food ok-- service really ruined this experience.

Very tasty St. Louis BBQ Ribs, Texas jalapeño sausage, coleslaw and corn casserole with a nice pice of corn bread.

Very tasty food, ribs were very tender and with Dave's original and tangy BBQ sauce. The bBQ baked beans were to die for, along with the side of coleslaw and Texas jalapeño sausage. If you have some additional space try their apple cobbler with ice cream and caramel. Service was super and May made us feel like we were home. Very cozy place and U recommend it if you want to have a nice meal after the long winding roads from the Rocky Mountains National Park.

We came here after doing some hikes at Rocky Mountain National Park and were super hungry so we got the Dave's Triple with the Texas Beef Brisket, Texas BBQ Sausage, and the Smokin' Bison Ribs (extra $10). The brisket and sausage were good, but the bison ribs were a bit disappointing since it was mostly just bone and barely any meat.

I cannot believe I haven't rated Smokin' Dave's yet!! I first found them on yelp like a decade ago when I worked for a non-profit and needed to find a restaurant in Lyons for a bunch of kids. I called and told the restaurant what we needed, and our budget, and if I recall correctly they comped the whole thing. The kids loved it and I've been a loyal Dave's fan ever since. I came up most recently during COVID, and they have a nice pickup/takeout window, but the patio is also open and available for socially distant dining. As always, the food was amazing! I got the pulled pork with mac n cheese and collard greens, and it comes with corn bread. My mom got the ribs and they were also amazing. I just feel like you can't go wrong here!

Good food but we had to leave because the wasps were so overwhelming and ended up in our food.
    Devon T.

The food was good. That's about all I can say. After we placed our order, the beer came out, then the food. We had to ask twice to get other drinks. Three out of the five meals came out without the requested sides. There were so many wasps we had to leave because they were in our food. The server was nice but the actual service wasn't good. The fact that food came out 30 minutes before waters and soda was poor service. The food was decent. If you visit, sit inside as they don't do anything to address the wasps. And don't expect good serve ice.

Pulled Pork platter with Mac & Cheese and Potato Salad

My mouth is watering still thinking about this place. The pulled pork was perfectly cooked and easily pulled apart. Mac and cheese was tasty with crumbled panko on top. The potato salad was also yummy. The cornbread was cold and honestly a little flavorless but the quality of meat more than made up for it. Service was attentive. Honestly so good that I am going to go to the location closer to where I live very soon.

We decided to eat a Smokin' Dave's BBQ after a long day hiking at RMNP. We visited a bit after 6PM…read moreon a Sunday in the pouring rain and even though we thought it was shoulder season, the place was absolutely packed. We were quoted a 35-40 minute wait time. Since the waiting area was completely full we decided to go back to the car. Luckily, they use a waitlist system that sends updates via cellphone. It ended up only taking 20 minutes, and soon we sat inside to order. The food took about 15 minutes to arrive: Smokin' Bison Ribs ($29) - This entree comes with ribs, two sides, and a cornbread muffin. Bison Ribs - Three huge ribs decorate the top of the plate. According to the menu, they try to provide two pounds of meat - I'm not 100% sure it's that much, but it is a substantial portion nonetheless. The meat is moist and while not fall-off-the-bone, courtesy of a very thick layer of silver skin attaching the meat to the bone, is tender enough to be easy to eat. The ribs are slathered in a blackberry bbq sauce. It's not nearly as sweet or fruity as the name suggests. Instead, the flavors are very complementary and work so well together with the fabulously smoky and somewhat charred flavor of the ribs. (5/5) Side 1: Southern Corn Bake Casserole - This includes tender sweet corn kernels in a very creamy sauce with some green chile, giving a small bit of vegetal heat. It's similar to a richer creamed corn with a bit of heat. (4/5) Side 2: Red Beans and Rice - Tender beans that remain whole rather than falling apart into a mushy mass, reside on top of a very small amount of soft rice. Honestly the rice is almost vestigial here given the amount of beans on top. It's all in a very rich and savory sauce filled with celery. (4/5) Cornbread - This is a moist cornbread muffin with a couple of whole corn kernels inside. It's sweet but not as sweet as a dessert. (4/5) Dave's Double Platter ($22) - This entree comes with the choice of two meats, two sides, and a cornbread muffin. Meat 1: Brisket - A pink smoke ring surrounds pieces of lean, pale colored brisket flat. The meat arrives in a puddle of juices and seems to have plenty of black pepper embedded in the crust, but not any particular bark, making it seem like the brisket will be moist and tender. Unfortunately, the opposite is true - it's mostly dry with only superficial moisture on the exterior. I feel like they store pieces of brisket immersed in vats of the meat juices and keep it heated through service. They rest there until someone orders the brisket, then chunks are lifted out and sliced to order. All the moisture seems to be sucked out - on the first bite I could tell that I needed to eat the brisket in bbq sauce. Still, while dry, it's not too tough and it does have a good level of smoke. (3/5) Meat 2: Pulled Pork - The pulled pork has the same issues as the brisket and the same upsides: dry, with only superficial moisture, no bark, good smoke ring. Strangely they provided a piece of very light colored pork that wasn't shredded and was actually really tough and completely dried out. At least the darker meat shredded pieces are small enough to immerse in the meat juices to remoisten. (3/5) Side 1: Jalapeno Hush Puppies - These spherical fried corn fritters are stuffed with jalapenos, giving enough heat for the mouth to tingle. The texture is very dense, moist (especially due to the addition of onion), and smooth, making it seem homemade rather than commercial. For some reason, the center of each hush puppy has a void. They are fried well, giving a good crisp on the exterior. (5/5) Side 2: BBQ Baked Beans - These are very tender mixed beans in a very sweet sauce. I'd say very similar in sweetness level to canned beans. There are some small pieces of bacon mixed in to spice things up. (3/5) Cornbread - Interestingly not baked as much as the one that came with the bison ribs, making it much paler in color. I guess they aren't that consistent at baking these. Otherwise it could be due to hotter or colder spots in the oven? Other than the bison ribs, the other barbecue items are kind of meh. At least the sides are mostly good. Portion sizes are large but not comically big. We had enough leftovers for one meal the next day. When we left a bit after 7:30 PM, the place was still completely full and there were still people in the waiting room. Seems like a very popular place for dinner! Bathrooms - Two larger rooms/multiple stalls, one for men, one for women.

Finally found the brisket. It's in small print under each item for an upcharge of anywhere between $5 and $10. For example the sandwich is $19. They are happy to sell you the cheaper meats at a premium but if you want brisket you have to pay even more. If we wouldn't have already ordered onion rings we would have left. Son ordered a burger and I ordered fries. Ate almost all onion rings and one was raw and still had powder on the inside. Fries were good, son's burger was good, but we can get burgers anywhere. I did bring the onion ring issue to the waitresses attention just so she could let the kitchen know. When she brought the bill, they had taken the onion rings off. I did not ask them to do that, but they did it anyway.

The first time we were disappointed upon arrival when they were out of burnt ends. We're from KCMO and we judge a town's BBQ by their burnt ends. Nonetheless, the brisket, sauces and sides were enough to warrant a second visit. Oh, and that house margarita...chef's kiss! Just what a tired ass mom needs after a long day of "hey moms." On the second visit, I went early at 4PM and ordered carryout. AND a margarita while I waited! The margarita is simple, the perfect size and made with all fresh ingredients. It rivals more notable ones around town. This time, they had ALL the burnt ends and boy, were they worth the wait! I got a one meat platter with burnt ends, collards and Mac n cheese. My husband got a two meat platter with burnt ends, brisket, beans and slaw. We got KC and Texas sauces (they have 5 or 6 to choose from, all inspired by different BBQ regions in the US). Both platters came with cornbread which is the only thing that needs some work IMHO. It's small, dry and not worthy of the calories. But EVERYTHING else was soooo good! Fatty, juicy, flavorful meats. Balanced sauces. And delicious sides! The Mac, collards and beans get an A+, the slaw is a solid B. Service was great on both visits. Friendly, efficient and fast! One thing to note is they have an adorable patio. I've not eaten out there yet but it's well maintained with lots of flowers and good coverage from the sun.
