Great service and friendly staff! They made sure to get us anything we needed during and after our meal to pack leftovers. All of the food, especially the sides were delicious. I think the only thing we would pass on would be the brisket as it was a little dry. I liked the sweetness of their bbq sauce and the lightness of the fried okra. I've lived in Lyons for many decades and the last three visits are my last. I only really went because they are close by, but sometimes over priced BBQ isn't worth the convenience. Georgia boys is so much better anyway. The worst thing is how poorly the food is prepared.A few times my pork ribs were 2/3's cooked .I tried the buffalo ribs and one was jerky and the other was pure fat. Wife and I saw Smokin Daves on the way to Estes Park, looked like a worthy stop. On way back we had plenty of time to explore Lyons. Delicious! I had the chicken which was perfectly cooked. Green beans and Cole slaw were excellent and generous portions. Cornbread was a little over cooked but yummy anyway! First I want to say the service was great but everything else was horrible. I ordered the potato skins and once me and my boyfriend finished then we realized there were little pieces of plastic on our plates and tray they came in. It is very likely we ate some which is not ok. But we had already ordered our main meal so we thought we would just stick it out. We should not have, when I bit into the cornbread muffin there was a weird cooked egg white consistency chunk in it, I don't think that it was supposed to be there. The pulled pork was super dry, the brisket was not good either. Mac and cheese and baked beans were good though. Wow. What a great and unexpected find on a recent motorcycle ride in the Rockies. As a Texan, it's always risky going to BBQ places but this one had a quiet confidence about it that I liked. It took about 45 minutes before our order was even taken, and once the food started coming out, it was staggered--half the table was served, and the other half waited another 10 minutes. By the time the food arrived, I was already pretty hangry, which didn't help the experience. I ordered the Carolina Pulled Pork with a side of mac and cheese. The pork was good, but the mac and cheese came out cold. My boyfriend's chicken sandwich was also cold, and his fries tasted like they'd been sitting for a while. The salad with salmon was great with plenty of greens, bacon, tomatoes, & shredded cheese and ample smoked salmon. The chicken looked good, but it need more time on spit. Use to having the meat falling off the bone, whereas the meat was rubbery and needed more time to cook. The onions rings were as good as they get. The interior is casual and the smoky smells wafting from the kitchen instantly draw you in. We ordered the onion rings to start that were HUGE and they also came out in record time after we ordered which was a little alarming. Are they not made fresh? My husband got the heart attack and he enjoyed the pulled pork and the gravy although the biscuits were quite dense. He really liked the meal, but the fries didn't taste very fresh, not crispy and a little mushy so we didn't eat much of that. The corn bread is ok. It crumbles when you put butter on it but the flavor is decent. I ordered the 2 meat platter with pork ribs and pulled pork. I love ribs and any chance I can get to order them I will. I was first taken with how big a portion it was. The meat was good, but definitely not the fall off the bone smoky meat I was hoping for. We chose the southern fried catfish with mashed potatoes and okra. We enjoyed the catfish, which was lightly breaded and had great flavor--definitely a recommended dish. However, the mashed potatoes were quite bland. They seemed to be made from scratch with red potatoes, but neither of us was particularly fond of them. The okra appeared to be the standard store-bought variety. For takeout, we ordered a Triple Meat Plate that included pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. We ate this a few hours later. The BBQ was decent; there wasn't anything negative to mention. All three meats were cooked correctly, which is essential. The flavor was okay, but nothing really stood out. Was craving BBQ so headed to Smokin Dave's while on our road trip. There's a large patio with picnic tables and plenty of room inside. There are 4 sauces on the table and I loved mixing the sweet original and the spicy and absolutely dousing my pulled pork sandwich. If you like pickles on your sandwich ask for extra. The cornbread and bbq baked beans were stellar. Each dish comes with a side and if you choose the mixer (2 meats) you get 2 sides. The mac n cheese was also good but dipping the jalapeño hushpuppies into the cheesy Mac really took them to another level. It was not the best brisket I've ever had but the sauces were good. I called and told the restaurant what we needed, and our budget, and if I recall correctly they comped the whole thing. The kids loved it and I've been a loyal Dave's fan ever since. I came up most recently during COVID, and they have a nice pickup/takeout window, but the patio is also open and available for socially distant dining. As always, the food was amazing! Three out of the five meals came out without the requested sides. There were so many wasps we had to leave because they were in our food. The server was nice but the actual service wasn't good. The inside has adequate seating and a long bar area. When we were seating, it took close to 15 mins for us to get waters or even greeted. We let the hostess know that we were ready to order and shortly after the hostess came by. I had read prior to coming that they were kind of slow and the waitress confirmed this when she mentioned that they were short staffed. We placed our order and luckily, that came out quickly. We ordered the Not So Teeny Wahine. For 3 people in my group, this was the perfect amount of food for us. The sides were fantastic. Highly recommend getting the Mac and cheese! So delicious. Jalapeño hush puppies were tasty too, moist on the inside and not too spicy. Cornbread was cooked perfectly as well. All the meats were good but the brisket was a bit dry. If it wasn't for our amazing server, I would have given it one star. The bbq was dried out. The Mac and cheese my younger one got was cold. The server brought out 2 fresh sides but it wasn't the kid's entree size that comes with the kids meal. The other people in my party ended up needing to leave because it took an hour for catfish nuggets and the pulled pork potato skins. My older one got the chicken fried steak and it was over cooked plus had a huge gristle vein running through it. Everyone was at a very safe distance and we felt very comfortable. FOOD: Ordered the Dave's Double and the two meats we picked were the Texas Sausage and the Buffalo ribs. That's the best sausage I have had... it was gone within a minute or two. The Buffalo ribs were good but felt like the meat was a bit drier and didn't have the falling off the bone kind of tenderness to it.... maybe that's just how Buffalo ribs are. The sauce on it was perfect though. I removed a star for the sides: 1) corn bread that was cold( but extremely delicious) ... the butter chunks inside the bread, when you split it, was hard and visible. 2) the baked beans ... they were TOO sweet! The clear standout was the Bison ribs - fantastic sauce, tender meat, and plenty of it. The sausage was good, as expected, and the brisket was solid, though I can't quite pinpoint what's missing in the taste. Sides were a hit - coleslaw with the perfect creaminess, jalapeño hush puppies could use a tad more kick, and the cornbread was just right.
