I've lived in Lyons for many decades and the last three visits are my last. I only really went because they are close by, but sometimes over priced BBQ isn't worth the convenience. Georgia boys is so much better anyway. The worst thing is how poorly the food is prepared.A few times my pork ribs were 2/3's cooked .I tried the buffalo ribs and one was jerky and the other was pure fat. Great service and friendly staff! They made sure to get us anything we needed during and after our meal to pack leftovers. All of the food, especially the sides were delicious. I think the only thing we would pass on would be the brisket as it was a little dry. I liked the sweetness of their bbq sauce and the lightness of the fried okra. Wife and I saw Smokin Daves on the way to Estes Park, looked like a worthy stop. On way back we had plenty of time to explore Lyons. After browsing a local art gallery, we knew Daves would be the next stop. Just seeing the smoker and logs outside and the lovely wood scent got our attention. Was a lazy Sunday afternoon; we easily sat at the bar, needed a nosh and brew. We chose the sliders and a side bowl of bbq beans. The sliders (2 pulled pork, 2 brisket and side slaw) were pure smoky heaven. Wow. What a great and unexpected find on a recent motorcycle ride in the Rockies. As a Texan, it's always risky going to BBQ places but this one had a quiet confidence about it that I liked. I ordered the potato skins and once me and my boyfriend finished then we realized there were little pieces of plastic on our plates and tray they came in. It is very likely we ate some which is not ok. But we had already ordered our main meal so we thought we would just stick it out. We should not have, when I bit into the cornbread muffin there was a weird cooked egg white consistency chunk in it, I don't think that it was supposed to be there. The pulled pork was super dry, the brisket was not good either. Mac and cheese and baked beans were good though. We came with a group of 10, and unfortunately, the service was very slow. It took about 45 minutes before our order was even taken, and once the food started coming out, it was staggered--half the table was served, and the other half waited another 10 minutes. By the time the food arrived, I was already pretty hangry, which didn't help the experience. I ordered the Carolina Pulled Pork with a side of mac and cheese. The pork was good, but the mac and cheese came out cold. My boyfriend's chicken sandwich was also cold, and his fries tasted like they'd been sitting for a while. The salad with salmon was great with plenty of greens, bacon, tomatoes, & shredded cheese and ample smoked salmon. The chicken looked good, but it need more time on spit. Use to having the meat falling off the bone, whereas the meat was rubbery and needed more time to cook. The onions rings were as good as they get. My husband got the heart attack and he enjoyed the pulled pork and the gravy although the biscuits were quite dense. He really liked the meal, but the fries didn't taste very fresh, not crispy and a little mushy so we didn't eat much of that. The corn bread is ok. My wife and I had the opportunity to visit Rocky Mountain National Park, and we stopped by a restaurant on our way. Upon entering, we were immediately seated as the restaurant wasn't very busy. Our waitress arrived shortly after we were seated. Since we weren't very hungry, we decided to split our order and take a plate back to the hotel for later. We chose the southern fried catfish with mashed potatoes and okra. We enjoyed the catfish, which was lightly breaded and had great flavor--definitely a recommended dish. However, the mashed potatoes were quite bland. They seemed to be made from scratch with red potatoes, but neither of us was particularly fond of them. The okra appeared to be the standard store-bought variety. For takeout, we ordered a Triple Meat Plate that included pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. We ate this a few hours later. The BBQ was decent; there wasn't anything negative to mention. All three meats were cooked correctly, which is essential. The flavor was okay, but nothing really stood out. There are 4 sauces on the table and I loved mixing the sweet original and the spicy and absolutely dousing my pulled pork sandwich. If you like pickles on your sandwich ask for extra. The cornbread and bbq baked beans were stellar. Each dish comes with a side and if you choose the mixer (2 meats) you get 2 sides. The mac n cheese was also good but dipping the jalapeño hushpuppies into the cheesy Mac really took them to another level. It was not the best brisket I've ever had but the sauces were good. I cannot believe I haven't rated Smokin' Dave's yet!! I first found them on yelp like a decade ago when I worked for a non-profit and needed to find a restaurant in Lyons for a bunch of kids. I called and told the restaurant what we needed, and our budget, and if I recall correctly they comped the whole thing. The kids loved it and I've been a loyal Dave's fan ever since. I came up most recently during COVID, and they have a nice pickup/takeout window, but the patio is also open and available for socially distant dining. As always, the food was amazing! I got the pulled pork with mac n cheese and collard greens, and it comes with corn bread. My mom got the ribs and they were also amazing. I just feel like you can't go wrong here! read more

It was decently warm the day that we came and the patio has limited shade! They had maybe 3 long picnic table under the awning of an adjacent building and 3 tables that were without any shade. The inside has adequate seating and a long bar area. When we were seating, it took close to 15 mins for us to get waters or even greeted. We let the hostess know that we were ready to order and shortly after the hostess came by. I had read prior to coming that they were kind of slow and the waitress confirmed this when she mentioned that they were short staffed. We placed our order and luckily, that came out quickly. We ordered the Not So Teeny Wahine. For 3 people in my group, this was the perfect amount of food for us. The sides were fantastic. Highly recommend getting the Mac and cheese! So delicious. Jalapeño hush puppies were tasty too, moist on the inside and not too spicy. Cornbread was cooked perfectly as well. All the meats were good but the brisket was a bit dry. Good: -Service was good, interior clean, and live music on a Saturday night. -Prices were all fair and about average for BBQ. -There is a loyalty program (I think it's like $15-$20 per every $100 paid), which is really nice for loyal patrons. -We got the Not so Teeny Wahine, basically a BBQ platter with most of the offerings. This was good value at $38 and could have definitely fed at least 3 people. Food wise, this was not the best BBQ I've ever had and it was probably only slightly above average. That being said, I liked the pulled pork and the brisket. They were both tender and well seasoned. The baked beans had pulled pork in it, which was great. Sweet potato fries were also above average. The cornbread was a plus and had everything you wanted in a cornbread- sweet, salty, and buttery. Sides, as a whole, were good. Meh/Wouldn't get again: -I didn't care as much for the coleslaw. It seemed very average and I would be surprised if this was even homemade. -The ribs could have been much more tender. They were very inconsistent and tough for some pieces. When we went in for an early dinner, the restaurant was fairly quiet. There was a musician with a guitar playing a "Horse with No Name" while we were there. We asked our waiter if the fries were cooked with the onion rings, and he gave us some super thoughtful answers about food allergies and came back to let us know when one of his earlier suggestions was not as safe as he thought. The server brought out 2 fresh sides but it wasn't the kid's entree size that comes with the kids meal. My older one got the chicken fried steak and it was over cooked plus had a huge gristle vein running through it.
