I used to be a Chopped BBQ chicken salad guy. But last week I ventured out and got the Mo Burger. Now I'm a Mo burger guy. The BEST burger in town!! Had a late lunch. Ordered the special of 3 ribs with pulled pork beans and corn muffin and chopped chicken salad with an extra order of corn muffins. The corn muffins were so dry I almost choked on them. Really not fit to serve. The ribs were so burnt on one side had to remove that side to eat. This was not smoked or bbq'd it was burnt. The chicken in the salad was also extremely dry. $26 for lunch and I left so disappointed and sad. Never again. read more

The people are nice but not much you can say about the service. You get your own sodas and order at the register. So that makes it hard for to be good or bad. But they are nice people. It is not the best BBQ but it is the best in town. My GF loves corn muffins with the butter. read more

I have been to Smokin' Mo's several times, and it has been okay...not great, not bad, just...so-so. Tonight's dinner was less than okay, and I'm pretty disappointed enough to write this 2-star review. Tonight, my wife and I stopped in and ordered a "Mo Burger" for me and a Tri Tip salad for her. I paid an extra dollar to substitute fries with my order. We waited and waited, and finally for our order after30 minutes. Our food was delivered unceremoniously at our table without niceties or apologies for the log wait. The first thing I did was eat a french fry...a very cold, rubbery fry. I immediately took my basket back up to the cashier and asked her to warm up the fries. She took the basket and returned it to my table a few minutes later. The fries were still cold and uneatable. I took the hamburger out of the basket and took the fries back to the cashier and told her she could keep the cold crappy fries. I got no apology, no offer to replace them, and no offer of my money back. So...that experience, the lousy food paid for but uneaten, and the complete lack of customer service, is enough to keep me from coming back again. The food is good. What I wanted to write about is not the food but rather the service. We came in at 8:45 pm 15 minutes before they close. Most restaurants would have given us attitude but instead they gave an awesome service never rushing us telling us to take our time. We went on Saturday night on November 19, 2016. So, I love barbeque and this place sounded fun. It kind of reminded me of the famous dave's chain in the pacific northwest but I go in and I'm sad to say, it fell short. I'm not just being a mean dickhead but the fact is that nothing was good. I got the big sampler platter and I was actually astonished that none of the sauce choices were good at all. How do you mess up every sauce? The pulled pork wasn't good at all, the ribs were covered in the before mentioned sauce, the chicken was less good than grocery store chicken. If this place was east of the Mississippi they would probably get lynched for calling it a barbeque.Price was a touch high too. 2 stars because I didn't die. read more

First off, am from the south and have been to many of the joints that are featured in the pictures on the walls. Am considered by many of my friends to smoke the best ribs in the bay area, but that is subjective, and they haven't eaten my neighbors ribs which are terrific. Anyway, I digress, The ribs in this joint are so tender they could be eaten with false teeth. They are not smokey, but are terrific bbq ribs that my wife who doesn't care for smoked meats could thoroughly enjoy. The flavor is delicious as well. The sauces are awesome as well, although my favorite is the carolina, but it doesn't taste like the carolina sauces in the south, which are not my favorite. We ordered the green tomatoes, which were just like grandma used to make, light breading, slight tartness to them, perfectly cooked. The baked beans were not your typical sugary beans which I happened to like, but truly homemade beans with hunks of goodness in it. They were surprisingly very very good. The special plate is large and is a really good value. Don't know about Chico's bbq joints, but this one is better than any place I have eaten in the bay area. When I have a serious need of a good BBQ with beans,, slaw and the works... this is the place to go. the staff are efficient and very helpful if you are not sure where to begin with ordering. I have also had their salads which are large portioned and very tasty. The best part is...they do take-out, which means I can mix it up with my menu when hosting a party and I get to eat left-overs, which we all know is the best part of this type of meal! I've come here many times and had a good experience but after my last experience I will not be returning. My boyfriend and I walked in last night (it looked pretty slow) and looked over the menu. When we were both ready to order we moved closer to the counter. We could see the employees talking in the kitchen while we waited patiently. One of them came out, looked at us and then went around the back and proceeded to clean tables. A couple minutes later the other girl began picking up dishes. I swear they looked at us about 3 times. We stood at the counter for at least 5 minutes while other customers stared at us. We finally left after we were completely ignored. From other reviews it doesn't seem like the owner cares about customer complaints which is no way to run a business. With so many places to eat in town and so many new ones opening, restaurant owners should really make sure they provide good customer service. read more

Very good also, but my complaint is the portions of the sides is very very small. Plus I think the sides and the price of drinks are a bit pricey. I come here once a year and last year it got a 4 star. This year you get all five. We walked in a few minutes before closing. It didn't seem late to us, but then we lose all track of time in Chico. We offered to take our food and go, but they were so cheerful that we just sat down and watched the ball game. No flinching when I asked for my BBQ without the bun either. Great cole slaw too. He said take our time and so we enjoyed a great meal in a quiet place without rushing. Then on Thursday- Farmer's Market night, we spotted their food "cart" - we didn't have to be convinced to have dinner at "Mo's Jr." See you next year! read more

Ate here yesterday with my boyfriend. I got the tri-tip sandwich w beans and he got the hot link n fries. I also got a to go order of ribs for my mom. All three of us were content with our meals. Yummy satisfying n filling ! I like how u can pick from 4-5 diff bbq sauces. We sat out on the patio (which I didn't even know existed) and enjoyed our meal. Definitely would be back. Prices are typical we paid about 23$ for the two of us but he also got a beer or else it would have been just 20. Meat could have been a little more tender. read more

The ribs where about a 5.5 out of 10 at best nothing special. The pulled pork was about a 4 out of 10. The chicken was the best thing I had on the sampler tray I would say 6 out of 10 on that. The sides where nothing to wow you ether. Way over priced for that quality of bbq. I will not be stopping there again. read more

I didn't trust that my order was gluten-free because I was not allowed to talk to the food handler and the food that I received was not what I ordered. I left the food on the counter, despite "reassurance" from the counter staff. They are "not allowed" to give refunds. Typically I am okay with Mo's as a fast decent choice. The food is typical of a rib joint but don't ever go on a Saturday night. We walked in at 5:55 and ordered cheeseburgers and didn't get our food until 7:10. Bottom line: Mediocrity meets an incredibly slow kitchen. read more

I know I'm probably the only one star review on here but let me explain why. i know there are many others who stand behind this. I attended Chico High School the last 4 years and being that it is so close to downtown, Smokin Mo's was always a great decision for me and my friends to go to when we had very little money wanted something to split. (such as a plate of chicken strips) The first bad experience i had was when i got a water cup and the water wasnt working so i got some lemonade. (Shoot me right?) Before i could put it to my lips i was turned around by an employee and she grabbed it from me and dumped it. I explained my situation and showed her the faulty water and she just walked away like it was my problem. No apologies and she also left with my cup. However when i went back to my table the food was there and it was great. THEN a few nights ago there were about 5 people in the joint watching the end of a giants game. She let us know that they were closing and that she'd have to put it in to go bags even though there were people clearly enjoying their food and not leaving anytime soon. The cashier made us wait for TEN MINUTES while she was writing down something on a piece of paper. She knew we were there but offered no apologies or any, "i'll be right with you's". After a HALF HOUR my friends and I got our cardboard pieces of chicken and what seemed like yesterdays batch of fries. LONG STORY SHORT: The women of this establishment are very rude to young men who are loyal paying customers and the food is going WAY down hill. NEVER GOING BACK. Yes, I know it's a BBQ joint, and me being a pescetarian probably wasn't the best option, but I have to say their veggie burger is on point! I came with family (about 7 of us) and we were all very satisfied. Their sauces are amazing as well, they go well with fries and just about all of their food. We got a side order of the garlic fries and annihilated that. They were so yummy! Smokin' Mo's is a Chico staple. You get your food pretty quick and it's delicious. I highly recommend the tri-tip sandwich. They serve it with salsa, try putting some on your sandwich it's amazing. Their beans are tasty and the corn muffins are a must. They have TV's playing ESPN and a bunch of cool, old looking junk hanging on the walls. read more
