Great little coffee, Gelato, Chocolate place in Campbell. What is like about this place is that it's always a surprise what gelato flavors they have. Today I tried the "Mascarpone and Balsamic" surprisingly good flavors, you could clearly taste the Mascarpone cheese and the chocolate chips, but the Balsamic was not easy to pickup. Their Tahitian vanilla is just amazing. Would like to see more sorbet flavors, specially during summer; a bit more refreshing then gelato. The confectionery section is pretty awesome, love some of the flavors they have, pretty unique. That fact that they make the chocolate right there and you can see the amazing coloring happening is really cool. It should be a much bigger element of their marketing I think. Get a setup that really displays the process. Great place for a family dessert. read more

This is my new favorite coffee shop in the South Bay! The owner was really kind when I asked if he could make a Flat White which wasn't on his menu. I really enjoyed my coffee. As such, coffee prices are the same as Philz or Starbucks. I also later realized they have a ton of speciality coffee drinks in a separate menu card -- will certainly check that out next time! So far so good. I had the covfefe...yes it's called covfefe. I t's a chocolate cream cappuccino and they drop some caramel truffles inside of your mug to make it taste all kinds of good and will definitely make you cry with jou. I tasted a bit of the peanut butter chip and it was delicious but I will need to eat more of it to be able to give it a good review. But....that will definitely be something that I will get next time. Staff was very nice there was definitely no issue there. They were eager to help out and gave out free samples to make sure that we got the exact type of ice cream or whatever we wanted before we ordered. I will be coming back the next time that I am in the area. I love coffee houses and I love the environment. Paintings on the wall and board games to play at leisure. Walked in and immediately became captivated by the beautiful display of truffles! Lots of interesting flavors. I had a Mexican coffee truffle, which was beautifully presented in a saucer and tasted rather delicious. I also had a soy milk based decaf latte - not as good but probably because I asked for soy milk... duh! I liked the fact that they are able to personalize drinks with lots of flavor options and milk bases. Next time, I'll probably stick with what's on the menu. Snake and butterfly is one of my favorite stores and all of downtown Campbell, the art inside is lovely. They sell a large variety of gourmet handmade chocolates, gourmet gelato and gourmet drinks as well. The prices are more expensive than a Starbucks, but quadruple the quality. The ambience is laid-back, casual and artsy. The drinking chocolate is very rich and I highly recommend, also the Mexican hot chocolate gelato is some of the best I've ever had. Another good place to shop small. They have a bathroom for customers and the parking is going to be wherever you choose to park in downtown Campbell. I have been here more times than I can count and every time I receive quick service and the quality comes through. read more

Had the Mascarpone Balsamic gelato. That was just mind-blowing. The balsamic vinegar surprisingly works really well in the gelato and gave a slightly tart and very mouth-watering taste. 0 stars for the coffee though. The pour over coffee was really disappointing. The coffee is pre-ground, they do not use a scale nor a timer, they don't use a proper kettle (using a jug instead) and mostly just use the "method" of just dumping hot water in there and waiting for it to finish draining into the cup. The water used is also not temperature controlled, just heated up with their espresso machine. What is most disappointing though is that they are not doing justice to the excellent Barefoot Coffee beans they use. Maybe Barefoot can give them a training session in making pour-overs? (Though, Barefoot uses an immersion-pour over method, but that'd be for a different review.) Naturally, my pour over tasted more like slightly flavored hot water than anything else. Even my workplace's Folgers drip has more flavor. Haven't tried their chocolates or confections, but it looks like they know what they're doing with those at least. read more

The Bastard Borgia tasted like orange chocolate. It was really yummy. The ambiance is relaxing. To go to place to have a sip of coffee and relax. Cute interior, kind of a shabby chic look. There are places to sit inside or you can stroll down the avenue. There is really a nice selection of flavors here, like fruity gelatos, Mexican chocolate,pistachio and many others. The one I got--I think it was run cake batter or something like that--was really good. I think the prices are about average for a gelato place---they're not usually that cheap, but the cups displayed can throw yu off into thinking you get a rally tiny amount. The gelato actually extends over the top in a heaping manner. Next time I think I'll try Mexican chocolate. read more

Yum gelato! I'm not familiar with the area, but was craving ice cream and found this place on yelp! Not sure why this place is called Snake & Butterfly, but it's a cool little ice cream shop :) Came in here and there was a line almost out the door, but the line moved fast! This was only my second time ever trying gelato and I loved it :) Had the earl grey tea and it was super flavorful, but it got a little sweet as I kept eating it. To be honest, I think the prices may be a little high, but I know gelato is a bit more fancy than regular ice cream, so maybe that's why it's expensive. Got a small scoop of gelato for $3.75 or something like that, so medium and large was around $4 to $5ish---so just know you'll be spending a few extra bucks if you're here, but I recommend this place :) It's defintetly worth a try because they have sooo many yummy flavors and they sell tea, chocolate, and other drinks here too. There's indoor and outdoor seats and there's books available for you to read here! There's also like a little mini shop located inside, but I didn't check it out. So far Creme Brûlée, Coconut, and Salted Chocolate Chip are my faves! Oh and I recently found out that all their gelato is ORGANIC, which makes them that much better than the rest :). I love coming here to get gelato, their flavors are always amazing, and blow all other gelato places out of the water. Their store has a nice ambiance to it located right at the beginning of downtown Campbell, and their customer service is excellent. Inside they have nice little couches and decor if you decide to kick back for a while, and the owner even allows dogs to come inside. I did not know this until she voluntarily invited my husband and dogs in after seeing them waiting outside for me. This place is small, but big in comparison to other gelato places where you may not even have room to sit. Their only downfall is that they close rather early, but if your craving gelato bad enough I am sure that you will get there in time, Overall, I love gelato, and to me its all about the flavor. So for that, I give them a 5 star rating and they will most definitely see me again! read more

I had sampled some their chocolates at several events and decided to check out their brick and mortar location to see what else they have to offer. Ahh...sweet Downtown Campbell. Such a nice area. We arrived at around 11 in the morning and it was just a beautiful sight. The skies were clear and blue. The sun was shining. There were people left and right going for a morning jog/walk (some with their dogs), having brunch inside and outside, socializing over a cup of coffee in the local cafe, and just having an overall nice start to their days. I felt all warm and fuzzy inside. Because it was only the morning, there were plenty of parking spots along the main street. Don't even think about attempting this in the evening though. It is usually jam-packed and for good reason: the great nightlife. We took a morning stroll, just like the local residences, around the entire block. Not too far away from where I parked, we encountered the ever-so-Yelpopular "Willow Glen Frozen Yogurt & Creamery" (http://www.yelp.com/biz/willow-glen-frozen-yogurt-and-ice-cream-company-san-jose-3). I had never been here before, but had always been meaning to having it bookmarked for quite awhile. Unfortunately, the business opens at 12 at noon; we were there at 11. It makes perfect sense though. Why would a frozen treats business open in the morning? Is it even normal to have a frozen treat in the morning? I don't think it is, but I was still anticipating having a frozen treat after seeing Willow Glen Frozen Yogurt & Creamery. We continued to embark on our journey towards the further end of the main street where it seemed to be less busy. On one side there is a Sonoma Chicken Coop, the other side: a colorful cupcake business that claims to have won some sort of national televised competition?, a decorative and also colorful lamp/lantern business, and...what do you know..another business I had bookmarked with a specialty in frozen treats, or, more appropriately, gelato..."Snake & Butterfly"! There is a nice, outdoor-seating area; most of the businesses in Campbell have nice, outdoor-seating. As we walked in, I took notice of what I believed to be a very artsy cafe. I really liked the atmosphere and the look of the place. It is pretty hipster-ish. Haha. Plenty of tables and seating inside as well! Very well-maintained and very clean. Onto the eye-catching, mouthwatering gelato! An amazing assortment of flavors ranging from the classic Mint Chip to Strawberry to Pistachio to Salted Chocolate Chip to Cantaloupe...CANTALOUPE? WHAT? I was impressed. Never had I seen cantaloupe infused into a frozen state as this before. Unfortunately, I did not deem it worthy enough to be one of the four different flavors for our sundae. Four flavors? What? It is only 11 in the morning. I'm nuts. Reason being is that we had the craving for frozen dessert because we're crazy and there is a $5 charge minimum for card payments and the only way to satisfy that criteria was to get the Large ($5-6; four scoops). The four scoops we chose: Mint Chip, Peanut Butter Chip, Pistachio and Salted Chocolate Chip. We embraced the nice weather and sat outside to enjoy our treat. The first flavor to taste: Pistachio. I love pistachio. I have had pistachio ice cream in the past and absolutely loved it. One small spoonful of the pistachio and into the mouth...wow. It was very rich in flavor. Perhaps too rich? I felt like I needed some water. Nonetheless, tasty. Definitely gets a thumbs up from me. Onto the next flavor: Peanut Butter Chip. Same process. Another wow. Very rich and sweet. Definitely liking the crunch from the chips. Another thumbs up. My all-time favorite: Mint Chip. I was actually surprised that it wasn't as rich and flavorful as the two other flavors; hardly a trace of mint. I figured they would get at least Mint Chip right if they could pull-off Pistachio. Oh well. Definitely a hit-and-miss with the Mint Chip. Two out of the three so far. Last, but not least: Salted Chocolate Chip. It was covered up entirely of hardened chocolate. The chocolate served as a barrier, but we plastic spooned our way through and finished it. It was just as tasty as the Pistachio and Peanut Butter Chip. Three out of four, 75%. I needed to down an entire bottle of water after that. Final Thoughts: Downtown Campbell is nice. Go there. I insist. As for Snake & Butterfly, they have great-tasting gelato. Although, I would still have to try out what Willow Glen Frozen Yogurt & Creamery has to offer to make a legitimate preference. I will be completely honest though...I have no idea what the difference between ice cream and gelato is. Yes, I will take the criticism and be naive about this. Sorry. Will I come back to Snake & Butterfly? It all depends on how my visit to Willow Glen Frozen Yogurt & Creamery will turn out. I have been a big fan since they just had a booth at the farmers market. I finally found myself in Downtown Campbell on a warm friday evening and thought I would pop in to their actual brick and mortar. We had gelato and a couple of truffles. The gelato was okay. Some flavors were a bit imaginary and out there as expected, but none really wowed me. I would say the Lemon Ricotta was probably the highlight. The mint chip was lackluster as was the Olive Oil Chocolate Waffle Cone. For the truffles, the hazelnut cup was super filled with hazelnuts and tasted fresh but the Cookies and Creme, although super cute was just eh. The staff was attentive but not all that knowledgeable either. Overall, it was a few hits and a few misses. We did sit and play Connect 4, and it was nice to have a place to chat and eat our gelato but it wasn't as impressive as it could be. read more

I love this cafe! Try the bastard borgia which is a mocha with citrus notes. It's not too sweet and the balance between the coffee flavor and citrus is perfect. The gelato is nice and creamy and there are a lot of interesting flavors to choose from. They're all really good, but the balsamic mascarpone and the fromage with cookie dough are my current favorites. I can't wait to go back so I can try the mexican chocolate and vietnamese cinnamon. The ambiance is fun and casual. There are board games and books for borrowing, with a good amount of seating and wi-fi. The owners are extremely friendly and provide great customer service. I enjoy being part of the cafe book club which meets every few weeks. Check out the chalkboard in the store or their facebook page to stay updated on the book choices and meeting times. So glad this location is Snake & Butterfly rather than the Gelato Classico that was here previously. S&B is now our go-to place when we need a sweet fix. They make all their chocolate in house, they buy from local farmers/vendors and the gelato is fantastic. My favorites (so far): tiramisu (has pieces of a lady finger like sponge in it), double espresso (actual espresso beans), strawberry fresca (tastes exactly like those strawberry bars you can buy at mexican grocery stores) and of course, vanilla bean. The family and I have been here probably 6 times in the past month and no one has been disappointed. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is cozy. All around great place. 5 stars. read more

It isn't the best gelato I've had, but I do appreciate the flavor concepts and service I receive here. Their artisan chocolates are also quite beautiful and tasty, albeit a bit expensive. But I get it. You're paying for quality and presentation, and Snake & Butterfly delivers on both. The place itself is in a great location, right at the end of Downtown Campbell, and I believe they do a lot of fun events there as well (Open Mic, Books Clubs, Live Music, etc.)...or at least they have done so in the past. I really really really want to like this place, but everytime it falls short. I have visited numerous times and tried many different flavors. The gelato is always just ok. The last time I went, I noticed that the same person who was scooping my ice cream and handing me my cone is the same person who is also taking my money and ringing me up. I was thoroughly impressed with this new shop. The customer service was awesome. The gelato that I had tasted was out of this world. The shop itsself was so cute I could totally see myself relaxing there after a hard day at work or even during lunch time. The items that they sell there aside from gelato were very interesting. They had numerous funny quote signs they even had a large assortment of cookies and candy and preserves that were nicely arranged on the shelf. I will definitely return here. The concept of customer service is lost in California. I don't want someone to tell me how awesome I am or anything crazy. I just want normal service as a customer. For example, at Snake & Butterfly... they sell chocolates. I want to buy a couple of chocolates for someone and I say... "X doesn't like caramel in chocolates/truffles" - I just expect that she would respond with, "Go with these other flavors that don't have caramel in them" or something to that effect. Instead, I was stared at blankly with an "Okayyyyy." It's odd. It's just odd. Either way, ended up buying a box of four. I think it was around $10. Then I bought a candle while waiting to get rung up which was around $20. Heard the chocolates were interesting and definitely not "generic Godiva" tasting. Maybe I'll stop by for gelato in the summer. read more

All of the chocolate here is made in house! From their picturesque truffles that glisten with gluttony to the drinking chocolates, you can bet that everything was made by hand. Only their gelatos are not made from scratch, but they are imported locally from San Francisco. Even the gelato deserves an honorary mention from me because they had really intriguing flavors such as lemon ricotta or mexican chocolate. The drinking chocolate comes in a small mug, but is very thick and rich. Definitely get a glass of water on the side to wash it down! The staff here is so friendly. The woman in front of me mistakenly ordered a waffle cone and was regretfully looking at the sugar cone. The server was happy to switch the scoop onto the sugar cone for her at no extra charge. The woman was apologizing profusely, but the server reassured her that it was no problem at all and they could eat it on their break.
