Amazingly good gelato and homemade chocolates. When I moved to Campbell I went in and Debbie was so kind so now I will always come back. I have had a bunch of different flavors and all have been amazing, but the Earl Gray and Honey Lavender I think top it. Also the sorbetto is amazing. I discovered Snake & Butterfly thanks to the Ugly Sweaters and Sweet Bites YEE last month. Discovering new places via Yelp is, of course, one of my favorite things about Yelp. Snake & Butterfly offers award-winning chocolate bars and confections made in small batches with organic, fair trade ingredients. Their chocolate truffles and caramel confections are amazing! They make me wish I had some major life event to celebrate, just so I could order a bunch of gift boxes. If you love chocolate, or caramel, or bourbon, or bacon (the list goes on...) you need to stop by and try something. You'll even find red wine, buttered rum, and fig flavors here. I didn't try the gelato, and since dark chocolate is my passion I probably won't be able to see past the truffles no matter how many times I visit. The ice cream is really good. I love that they offer coffee as well. Like fresh brewed espresso and ice cream = afogatto. Yum! That's what I had. Sadly no other ice cream shop I've been to offers this. I've been telling others about this place. When you walk in to Snack & Butterfly in downtown Campbell, you will not want to leave! This has a true neighborhood coffee house feeling with comfortable furniture and book-lined shelves that invite you to put up your feet and stay a long time. It's perfect if you have little kids with you, too, as there are games and crayons available. And fantastic coffee drinks. I think I'd move in if I could! read more

Since reading a nice review in the metro, I decided to stop in at snake and butterfly. I knew they carry barefoot coffee so that was a big plus as barefoot is the best Coffee...always a good vibe when you walk in...mellow tunes...and everything a chocoholic and coffee person needs. I ordered an affogato....fresh espresso poured over gelato...astounding! Flavors such as creme brulee, lemon ricotta, Mexican chocolate, honey ginger, pistachio and even olive oil and moscarpone Graham cracker, as well as the perennial chocolate, vanilla and strawberry are available...by the scoop or in a sundae or banana split or milkshake. Did I mention the award wining, handmade chocolates? How about a bacon maple caramel or one of their incredible peanut butter cups. Mr. Reese has nothing on s&b. Very cool spot to visit especially on a late night stroll on the Fri-Sat. They have live music and tasty things to try. Their gelato is from local company and their art is from local artists. BESIDES, I know a thing or two about chocolate, having a history working for a chocolate maker, these guys know what they are doing! After dinner in town, I was craving something sweet and headed over to this cute little cafe/chocolate/gelato shop. They use Barefoot coffee, Lush gelato, and I think they do their own chocolate. My BF and I got a small gelato and truffle each and thoroughly enjoyed everything. The price is reasonable ($3 for a kids gelato and $3 per truffle) and the guy running the shop was friendly. read more

They came to Intel to sell their products. Don't get me wrong - the chocolates are beautiful. But they are disgusting. $10 for 5 chocolates, you expect them to be delicious. And the caramel series sounded delicious. They were not. The textures were awful; some were way too salty others too sweet. A total rip off. read more

I am a lover of excellent chocolate, coffee and gelato. The previous shop was ok, but the servers always had a "whatever" attitude and the gelato wasn't the best quality. Snake and Butterfly has top end organic gelato that is the best I've ever eaten! I am impressed that the owners are very eco-friendly about the environment with the bio-degradable containers and metal spoons, means less problems for the environment! I go to get work done some days, I am self-employed, and always get a warm welcome when I show up, means a lot to me! If you get a chance, go visit, and try some of the excellent gelato and coffee, it's about time Campbell got a top notch cafe like this one!! read more

Was in the neighborhood and was looking for ice cream and this place came up. Just to be clear, they serve gelato and sorbets, not ice cream. And as an ice cream lover craving ice cream, I was a little disappointed! They had some unique flavors and it wasn't too heavy so would probably go back if I wanted gelato. Place itself is a little quirky. Almost looks like a craft shop from the outside with art and stuff hanging everywhere. Seating was ok. They had a bar height table with counter height stools, so it was a little awkward sitting. read more

I don't know where to begin ... All 3 drinks we ordered were supposed to be hot, but were barely lukewarm. The barista forgot to put an espresso shot in my latte ... but she didn't forget to charge me for the extra shot! And when I brought it up with her, she didn't offer to re-make my drink as usual, but rather to just put an espresso shot in my existing one. And on top of everything else, when I asked for a tiny utility cup, she had the guts to charge me extra for it. Never again! read more

This place has really cleaned up in my opinion. The the first few years of going here, there was always a snarky comment from someone on their staff every time we went. Despite having delicious gelato, I never wanted to go here. The past 3 or 4 visits have been so much better!! Came here with my honey excited to try the coffee and gelato, but my enthusiasm died soon after walking in when I was almost immediately met with a rotten attitude from the owner. Maybe my being gussied up for a night out made me appear stupid, because I was definitely treated as such from the get-go. There were only two ladies ahead of us in line who were already being helped by the other bored-looking girl working there, but we were met with no greeting and were instead just stared at for a solid minute or two before the owner asked, "Do you know what you want?" I then asked her about a hot coffee drink served with a scoop of gelato, as I had seen a picture of one on their Facebook page. She then gave me a raised-eyebrow look, the likes of which I would expect to see from a high school girl, and then slowly explained to me that an affogato is espresso with a scoop of gelato. I had to resist the urge to fire back with, "I have been a barista for five years, I know what a friggin affogato is, I'm asking you about a coffee DRINK that I saw on YOUR Facebook page." Instead I asked her if there was something like a mocha beverage that came with gelato, to which I was met with the same look described above and, "Uh, what, a mocha with a scoop of gelato?" At this point, I was tired of her attitude, as it was completely uncalled for and continued even though I maintained a kind and smiling demeanor the whole time. I simply responded with a "yes" because I was tired of interacting with this woman, but did not want to cause a scene by walking out or matching her with a similar tone, as we were all geared up for a date night. She did not ask me what size I wanted, proceeded to take her sweet time making a lackluster mocha and did not offer me whipped cream. Blasphemy. Honestly, the espresso tasted improperly extracted and the gelato, while good, tasted more like ice cream. I also checked out the shelves and found coffee beans for sale that were roasted almost a month ago. No thanks. There are so many other places to enjoy good coffee in the San Jose area and I see no reason to return to a place where I can expect to be made to feel like crap for simply walking in and trying to spend money. Really awesome spot in downtown Campbell to lounge around and hang out. Their chocolate truffles are superb (I had the blueberry one) and they have a great variety at the coffee bar. Weird vibe, ambivalent service, not the best gelato ive ever had...but it was good, pretty expensive. I think dolce spazzio is more fairly priced. This place was 4.09 for a small and I didn't even get a flakey trianglular cookie to go with the gelato I ordered. All in all, good variety of gelato but we left petty quickly after ordering because it wasn't friendly, warm, cheery or anything....at all. Very strange atmosphere, if you ask me. read more

The chocolate has always been great-- I've been a fan for years! I work for an organization that serves individuals with dual diagnoses of mental illness and developmental disabilities who are working on the social skills to engage in their communities. Frequently I am asked to evalute a teacher's skills in assisting an individual in the community. Last week I was evaluating a teacher who was assisting an individual in Starbucks. The individual's behavior became so escalated that we were asked to leave Starbucks. I suggested to the teacher that we go to Snake and Butterfly, since I was familiar with the shop and the atmosphere was a bit less crowded. Once there, the staff greeted the individual I was with and did not miss a beat when she used some colorful language and needed some assistance in using appropriate social skills. I was so pleased to see that Snake and Butterfly values all of their customers, even those who may behave differently. Mara, one of the proprietors, spoke with the client graciously and was very warm to all of us. She is absolutely unflappable! I was really pleased to see the efforts toward eco friendly materials in the store-- compostable containers for some sizes of gelato, and non-disposable spoons for samples. I recommend the coconut macadamia nut sorbetto. read more

This place seemed to have changed ownership recently and it went down the drain. The gelato is different, lower quality, the owner is trying to save money using metal spoons for tasting but that is an incovienece for customers, earlier owner use to place treats in gelatos for the kids like cookie but current owner wont place anything. Now if that wasnt enough they used to have loyalty program were you will get one free after buying a number but thats gone as well. And if thats not enough the name will get your jiuces flowing: Snake & Butterfly! WTH!? it is a gelato store, isnt it? read more

This review is for their chocolates. I received a box of them as a gift. Beautiful to behold but the quality was very unimpressive. the chocolate in the peanut butter cups was poorly tempered. I could see it right away by the dull, grainy looking surface. If this were due to temperature changes in transport then all the chocolates would've looked like that. But it was only the peanut-butter cups. this is unacceptable. those candies should never have been put in the case. The macadamia cups were also a disappointment. The chocolate again, was grainy and due to it's thickness, incredibly hard to bite into. And the flavor of chocolate (bittersweet?) was a poor match with the macadamia nut. Sadly, I threw it away. As for the rest of the beautifully painted chocolates? None of the flavors were awe-inspiring. Fillings were flat, and textures were grainy and dry. The cookie-n-cream didn't taste like anything. Not even vanilla. Is someone skimping on ingredients/flavors? I don't like to be so harsh in a review, but the entire box is one big disappointment. Please look into your quality control. read more

This is a nice place to get gelato. Lots of choices. My big complaint though is that my 7 year old daughter got a medium size of a flavor and realized she didn't like it. I told them that and they basically made me pay for another medium of a different flavor. Then had ne take the other gelato with me, which neither of us liked. I gave them another visit...and left irritated yet again. I requested decaffeinated green tea the man helping me said they didn't have any decaffeinated green tea very snippy he said the tea was listed on the menu and he turned a little list on the counter to face my direction. I said you don't have the red decaffeinated tea anymore? He said yes and said its on that list and I said where? I only see one decaffeinated tea and its not red. He picks up the list and says its right there pointing at it. I said, I didn't know because like the one tea listed on there specifies "decaffeinated" and that one doesn't. Pfffff try to point out and make me feel stupid mister attitude! Maybe you should correct your menu and go home and get some rest grumpy guy! Soooooo he's getting hot water to make my tea as it spits out of his coffee making machine its boiling hot so hot I could sip it for what felt like am hour! read more

Love love love their mint chip ice cream. Bona fide mint flavor is extremely refreshing on a hot day.

The Snake and Butterfly has really, really, really good gelato. It all appears to be made of real ingredients. The mint gelato tastes like it has real mint leaves crushed into it - not some kind of mint flavoring. I usually get the mint or the cinnamon and both are the best that I've had anywhere. My son gets the chocolate - also superb. There are reasonable serving size options. If you want a small, kid-size scoop, you can get it. Campbell is in a hot, dry part of the country. We should eat ice cream and gelato often. And we should get it from the Snake and Butterfly. read more

I've found my new favorite cafe! The house-made chocolates are beyond fantastic- you definitely have to try the blueberry balsamic truffle and the penuche truffle, two of my current favorites. The coffee and hot cocoa are superb and match well with all the delightful truffles and chocolates, not to mention the gelato! Try the Fromage Blanc Cookie Dough, or for a bit of a kick, the Mexican Chocolate gelato. I'm so glad my family and I found this place a while ago.
