Unfortunately I ordered for take out and they got my order wrong. I ordered crispy chicken tacos and they gave me fish tacos. I was already home so I just wanted to call to see what kind of fish it was to see if I could even eat it since I'm pregnant and limited on which fish is safe. They answered and I began to tell them what happened and they cut me off to put me on hold. I understand they're busy but they left me on hold for over 5 minutes before I just gave up and hung up. I couldn't eat the taco :( and it was a complete waste of time and money. I used to go here all the time and now I won't be supporting. read more

Wow this is hard to write. Been coming here for YEARS and have been getting to go orders during COVID to help support this long time favorite of mine.....but..... things have gone downhill recently. As noted by other reviewers, the skimping g on the salsa - while maybe driven by business conditions- is sufficient to make me look elsewhere. Order a single fish taco? One tiny salsa side. Order a two taco combo plate? One tiny salsa side. Want salsa for chips plus the two taco combo plate? Nope, that'll be extra. Prior to COVID, there was a salsa bar that I know can't be open these days, but to now skimp on salsa they way they do just invites fans to try the new local competition I won't name here. Not sure if it's placebo effect, but today the food just didn't seem as good. Maybe from the bad taste in my mouth from the salsa policy change? Can't go wrong with a mini combo with battered fish and a soft flour tortilla! Their rice and beans are solid! But the money is in the salsa bar. Highly rec the Yolanda's. Perfect amount of smokey which is rare to find in a salsa. Love the reusable cups with the cheap refills! Another love is the Cancun burrito. Nothing like real tacos. I asked the girl at the counter what is their most popular dish Oversized, full of lettuce, cheese and bland. And she said the fish Tacos so I ordered two of them. I asked if these are corn Tacos and she said nodded. ClearlY she Didn't know floor tacos from corn. I should have known as soon as I entered I saw not a single person of color, no Hispanics that should have given me all the hints I needed. Decided to try this place out for dinner one night with my husband and 4 year old while on vacation. The food was pretty good, large portions. I had the grilled chicken taco and the potato taco, both in a crispy flour tortilla which I thought was delicious. The chicken doesn't seem to be marinated much so I had to use some salsa to add flavor, which was fine with me. The potato taco was delicious, and huge! It is filled with like half a baked potato. Also added some salsa for extra flavor and loved it. The combo comes with rice, beans, and chips, so definitely didn't eat all of it. Hubby got a shredded chicken burrito, wet style. He said he preferred Baja Fresh. The kids quesadilla plate comes with rice and beans and my kid devoured the quesadilla and beans. Beware that the rice is spicy! It tasted as if someone dumped a bunch of pepper on it, so be careful feeding it to small children. It also comes with some yummy fried cinnamon tortilla chips that we all thought were delicious! This is one of our favorite places to eat as you can tell from my previous review. Sadly it seems they are starting to skimp on a few things. For example, the soft tacos used to have 2 tortillas. Now only 1. Last visit when ordering 3 entrees we only got one small bag of chips whereas previously we would get a full bag and a half. Hopefully this was just a fluke visit and they aren't going to start trying to save a few pennies. We are loyal (every 2 weeks) customers since this location opened. I am updating this review because after being persuaded by co workers we frequented it enough to redeem my faith. A huge fan now of the potato taco, and no I'm not, nor plan to become vegetarian. It's filling and a good cost for just $5. However, sometime I spring for the rice and beans. But seriously, it's satisfying. I've also ventured to try the cancun with real crab meat and nachos. Wow has this place gone downhill! Left here after a Sunday afternoon totally dissatisfied. Since I'm now a vegetarian I figured most Mexican places can adapt but when I ordered a potato taco? I received cold mush at the bottom of lettuce and cheese. I smelled it, to make sure this wasn't fish or something? So I went up to the young workers here asking if this was a potato? Oh man. The looks they gave me...as if they've never seen anything like it either! So i asked if they had any crispy style potato...and they just stood around denying any help. (I was pretty irritated because you see, they first got my order wrong. So this was my second time up there) I thought I'd suck the unappetizing look and TRY the cold mush. Visiting back my old stomping grounds. I found this location pretty decent but the cashier was a little off. She did not realize it but she was being disrespectful and rude with the way she was bossing customers and not being polite, and also chewing gum when she was talking to customers. No big deal, food still good, and other staff members much more pleasant. Just an FYI Snapper Jacks so you know your cashier needs more training. Also staff had trouble keeping up with cleaning tables and salsa bar, to their credit they replaced salsa bar at about 2PM after the lunch crowd was gone. PLEASE DO NOT PATRONIZE SNAPPER JACKS!!! A few weeks ago I was in there with my autistic son who is 16 years old. He loves to take pictures of his food. When he took a picture the flash went off. A guy turned around and said in a very confronting manner "are you opening a restaurant?" I said no my son is autistic and loves to take pictures of his food. The guy continued his rant about people taking pictures of his restaurant to copy it. Apparently, he is the owner of this Snapper Jacks. I was very offended by his behavior. Wow. This is nothing close to the original Snapper Jacks. I went on a Tuesday at Lunch. Staff did great, the cooking sucked. I got the crispy steak tacos. I love Snapper Jack's solely because they have grilled fish (snapper), whole wheat tortillas, and whole bean (not re-fried) that I order as a burrito. The sauces they have at the salsa bar are pretty good. I really like the Shack Sauce and the green one (there's two, but I forgot the name). Burritos (only thing I've gotten) are decently sized, but it does get messy and you get a whole bag of multi-colored tortilla chips to go with your food. Ambiance looks like an indoor version of a shack you would find in Mexico, so it's quite casual. Awesome food at decent prices. Parking lot is quite big, but still gets somewhat packed during rush hours (lunch/dinner). read more

C'mon, sometimes you crave a fish taco. And this place has them! Battered fish on a soft corn tortilla, married with shredded cabbage and cheese and their secret shack sauce. Each bite has everything. Crunchy, tender, fresh, hot, cold, gooey, savory sensations simultaneously. I would dock this place points for their prices, but it's a minor blow and still gets five stars in my book. Plus they serve Karl Strauss! Albeits just one brew, but it's one of the better ones - Endless Summer Light. Oh yeah, their potato taco? Amazingly the best thing I've had in a while that didn't have any meat in it. The refried beans also gets some props for being some of the best refried beans I've had. The Azteca salsa, which is some creamy avocado and cilantro concoction, seemed to go well with pretty much everything. And their chips were fresh from the fryer and well seasoned. So come here for their pescado, papas, y beer. I really think this place will survive in their Camarillo location. It's much nicer than where I had it across Ventura College. read more

Snapper Jacks is not worth the money. They are 0 for 2 on good food at Snapper Jacks. My steak burrito had six (6) small pieces of meat... Literally! I kept waiting to find a pocket of more meat, and ended up feeling like I just ate a vegetarian burrito at the end. I had the same exact problem with a chicken burrito; it had even less meat... On this day I had introduced this place to a friend, and wound up embarrassed by their customer service to him while getting his order wrong. ... If it was a good quality sharp cheddar cheese or a yummy jack it still would have been too much cheese. I'm starting to understand why In-N-Out is Yelp's highest rated restaurant in Camarillo. My husband got take out to bring home we live 15-20 minutes away even though the distance you would think food would still be crispy like the shell of the tostada or taquitos for that matter but they were soggy and rubbery will not go back. I was never a fan of fish tacos until I came to Snapper Jack's. I've always tried steak and chicken, but never fish. Snapper Jack's uses snapper for this tacos and they are very good. One order of tacos along with chips is enough to get you full. They've also got good burritos and taco salads and the SAUCE!! The sauce is amazing. Voted the best sauce in Ventura, they've got everything from mild, medium and hot. Fresh onions and cilantro are also a customer favorite. This place attracts a lot of high school and college students as it is not too far from both locations. It can be seen from the 101 Freeway and the prices are very reasonable. read more

I expected Baja Fresh, I got a packed vibrant restaurant with decent affordable food. I always worry when I order at a counter. I stood on line for 3 minutes before it was my turn. The young man who took my order was willing to explain the menu despite having 6 people standing behind me. I settled on Jack's Combo @ $7.15 plus a Corona @ $3.00. Jack's combo is two tacos, rice, beans, and chips. I chose a crispy fish taco and a potato taco with real beans as my side. I expected to wait for my order. I was surprised when my number was called after only three minutes. I like the fish taco. It beats the fast food competition hands down. The fish was hot and crispy, the cabbage cold a firm. I added a little lime and found taco nirvana. The potato taco was a different experience. The soft texture of the filling had an uncomfortable mouth feel, yet it tasted great. Potatoes, lettuce and cheese made up the filling, along with a unidentifiable white sauce. Like I said, it was good, but next time I'll try a chicken taco. The sides were great. The rice was perfect, the beans tasty, and the chips crisp and fresh. The dish came with one small pepper, but more were available in the obligatory salsa bar. The decor reminded me of Islands. It was less tiki more Cali surf themed with clean indoor and outdoor dinning areas. Since it was seat yourself and the place was packed, people were standing around waiting for tables to clear. This place will put serious pressure on the corporate fish taco joints. I drove by a nearby Baja Fresh after leaving, it was empty. The people have spoken. I, too, am perplexed by the good reviews of this place. I understand that they are not aiming to be an authentic Mexican food restaurant, but the food is quite bland and they seem to try to cover that up with mounds of cheese. If you're looking for good Mexican food in Camarillo, you have many better options: Bobbi's, Olas, Tapatio, Establos, etc. Even Baja Fresh has more flavor than Snapper Jack's. read more
