Sorry-- I have been there 4 times. 2 bad experience with raw shrimp in my shrimp burrito, that was mostly rice. I complained and i got the" sorry about that"" tee hee. " With no offer of recook and or another burrito. saving grace was albondiga soup. Ill be looking for another place. read more

I first had Snapper Jacks in Camarillo and was delighted when they opened in Thousand Oaks. I prefer the plain fish taco, but I have not been disappointed by the other items I have ordered. I like Snapper Jacks for the fact that is a nice alternative to the bigger taco chains, namely Baha Fresh and La Salsa. It is not "authentic-o" by any means. This is a gringo-stye taco joint. But what they do, they do well. The portions are more than ample and made fresh to order. I really enjoyed the fajita-style chicken burrito. The grilled veggies were tender but still crisp. There could have been a little more chicken in it but I am not really complaining. The thing that made this burrito stand out to me, however, was the sauce that was mixed into the filling. It had a "curry-ish" flavor to it. I like curry and I thought this was a unique twist. There salsa bar is probably what sets them apart from the other chains. I went to this place for the first time with a friend. I've apparently driven by many times but didn't even know it was there. It's kind of hidden from the main street in a crowded shopping center. I went for lunch during the week and parking was a little difficult but manageable. Snapper Jacks has a decent taqueria style menu (tacos, burritos, nachos salads etc.) at reasonable prices. Not too extensive but many choices to choose from. I had the shrimp burrito. I thought it was good but not fantastic. As many of the reviews mention here, they have a great salsa bar with many unusual salsa's. Get some extra chips and you could make a meal from that alone. The service was quick and they have indoor and outdoor seating. My visit was on a perfect sunny day so we sat outside. I would try this place. read more

I can't explain how much I love this Snapper Jacks location! The atmosphere is extremely welcoming and the workers are so energized and present. Not only do they make great suggestions on meals they always make sure my order is hot and correct! Whenever I ask my family what they want for dinner the answer is Snapper Jacks. It's a great place for families or even eating alone. Not to mention the ToGo service... It's is absolutely excellent. The other day I was thinking about how the cancun burrito was just a limited special at snapper jacks and now that it is a permanent item on the menu it made me happy because I can order it every time now. This burrito is by far the best burrito I have ever had. The shack sauce compliments the flavor of the fresh crab and the avocado with the rice and jack cheese and sour cream. If you like bland and tasteless tacos this is your place. I ordered one grilled fish taco and one shrimp taco. I couldn't detect any actual grill flavor. Tasted more like boiled than grilled to me. The sauce on the tacos wasn't anything special either. When i asked the person taking my order if they used GMO corn they had no idea what i was talking about. So he asked i guess the supervisor who also had no idea what GMO corn was. In fact everybody behind the counter was staring at me with a blank look on their faces. So if you are health conscious and concerned about eating genetically modified corn you probably shouldn't eat the corn tortillas or chips here. I would like to say that at least the bland, GMO laced food was affordable but alas, my two tacos and medium iced tea came in at $9.12. I'm going to Sharky's next time. read more

For many years ever since I can remember, my family, friends and I would go to this restaurant that is local to my hometown of Ventura, CA called Snapper Jacks Taco Shack. Whether it was just going out for a casual dinner as a family, or grabbing a quick bite after a nice day at the beach with my friends before heading home, it was always the spot to go. Snapper Jacks has always been a place to go because every time I go, I always end up leaving a happy camper. Not much has changed since I started going to school in a different state, but now every time I go home, going to Snapper Jacks is such a necessity that my family knows that has to be one of my first few meals when I go back. When looking at a restaurant, I always like to think about a few things before I start looking and even attend one. For the most part, I enjoy when the restaurant is somewhat quick because when I go to eat, I am usually pretty hungry by the time I get there. The atmosphere has to be inviting or else there really isn't much point in eating there because if it's a stale, uptight place then it isn't appealing to me. Since this is a taco joint, one of the main expectations I have for any Mexican food place is that they have to have a pretty good burrito/taco selection. Lastly, along the same lines, the pricing should be to the lower end of the scale for the fact that it's a place to stop and get a few tacos. I've had many experiences at Snapper Jacks Taco Shack because it is in my hometown where I grew up and has been a place that pretty much everyone I know enjoys. Since their main location that I usually attend is located in a beach town on the coast of Southern California the vibe that it brings isn't short of a locals only, surfer-esque, taco shack. Growing up in this type of town, going to restaurants with this atmosphere is what I enjoy and am used to so it's nice to have a place like this where I can go sit down and eat with my family and friends. Another great part about the essence of Snapper Jacks is that since it is located in a beach town, it's a very casual place so there isn't any specific way to dress or anything when you go. Overall, Snapper Jacks has a down to earth atmosphere to enjoy lunch or dinner with any group of people. Attending a restaurant like this is very enjoyable not only for the calm and laid back essence, but also for the fact that it's open for dine in as well as carry out which is nice for pretty much any occasion. With that being said, all of the encounters that I have had at Snapper Jacks have been fairly fast, whether it was ordering my food or receiving it, it was always in a good amount of time. I have never been upset with the service that has been given to me when I have been at Snapper Jacks. Every time I decide to go eat there, I am virtually always in the mood for some type of Mexican food, so I am never disappointed in what I end up ordering. I enjoy pretty much everything at Snapper Jacks but my favorite meal to order is two chicken tacos because it is always the perfect amount of food and tacos are one of my favorite foods. It also comes with chips as well, like every other meal that you can order there, and it never seems to disappoint. What makes pretty much every meal at this restaurant is the secret sauce that they have because it's unique to Snapper Jacks, which makes it different from the rest the Mexican food places in Southern California. Along with the food being great quality, it also doesn't come at a high price making it great for college students like myself, which don't have a lot of money to spend. Having two quick quality tacos for just five bucks is something that most people can spare on something like this. I have had many positive experiences with Snapper Jacks just because I have been there multiple times and have never had an awful experience, which is why I always go back. Although I can't pinpoint one experience in particular, I always love going with my friends from high school because it brings back great memories of when we used to go during lunch and hang out. I started going to Snapper Jacks in Ventura. It was fabulous but I have to say that this location (Thousand Oaks) doesn't seem to be as good as there other locations. The food doesn't seem as fresh and when I order burritos they always seem to miss an ingredient. I was crazy disappointed when they closed the Rubio's at Janss Marketplace. When this place opened up I had high expectations- they were let down. Their fish tacos are nowhere as good as Rubios.
