Disclosure: I have visited Sno 1 time. Sno is a shaved ice and yogurt dessert place in Dallas that offers a number of natural and artificial flavors to go along with their shaved ice. It's a good place to go to beat the heat when you want a cold, but not heavy (ice cream) treat. My Overall Rating - 3 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Sno has a nice, clean yet plain interior. You'll find several tables and chairs, and you place your order on one end of the counter and pick up on the other end. On our visit, they had some non-functional parlor games and a new, unboxed ice machine off to the side. I think they're about to upgrade their equipment but for now it was a bit cluttered. 1/2 Star. Service - There were a team of two people working. One took orders and the other filled them. When there was no line both filled orders. They were efficient and orderly, no issues here. 1 Star. Food - For me, I measure all my shaved ice experiences against Ululani's in Maui. They're shaved iced is so pure and soft, you'd think it was cream and not ice. Unfortunately, Sno's shaved ice is just ok. There's no light, creamy texture, it's just shave ice. Nothing outstanding. However, their natural flavors are great. Mango is a hit, and my wife likes the tamarind. The artificial flavors are a bit sweet. You can order with cream, but we didn't on this occasion. But again, it's a good alternative to ice cream and yogurt. 1 Star. Will I Return? - Maybe - I do want to try the strawberry with cream. In the case of Sno, it's not you, it's me. Ululani's is just so great I have to compare it to them. So Sno is a good Dallas alternative. 1/2 Star. My Yelp Rating Scale (Sum of all parts): 1 Star - Atmosphere - Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I'll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star - Service - You can have a great meal with bad service. But that's also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Food - I'll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it's really all about the food. 1 Star - Will I come back? - If I know for a fact I'll return, I'll give this a star. When we're visiting Dallas, I swear we come here twice a day! The natural flavors are so good. I think at this point we have tried them all with tamarind, coconut and strawberry being our favorites. The natural colors don't have any artificial colors and are made with real sugar. read more

I always get my favorite flavors of half chamoy and half tamarind, and with tamarind pulps on top this time (didn't know that was possible). For an extra natural flavor (tamarind), it was $0.50 more and $0.25 for the pulps. With all the extras, a small ended up costing me $2.25. Not bad! What bad was the quality of the ice. It was very inconsistent. Some part were chunky and some were finer, but even the finer part wasn't as fine as TC's shaved ice. I couldn't even finish it, because it was too sweet. Way too much syrup. One of the cashier recommended mango con chile to my friend, and that was a little better, but the shaved ice was still crappy. The service was good. So happy to have tried the sno cones here!! The shaved ice is very fine and flaky, something I've haven't been able find in any of the sno come stands I've been to around here. I appreciate that they offer "natural" flavors. I didn't get to try but definitely will during my future visits. Got the kids rainbow sno cones. They are not stingy with their syrups! It's almost a little much since the shaved ice is very fine. I got the mango sno cone with chamayado and chilli flake. I wanted the tamarind but they were out. Do not insult Sno by calling it a snow cone stand. It's nothing like that. It's shaved ice and it is delicious. What makes it so great? First off, the ice is shaved so thin that it's very smooth. Not like the ice chunks you get from a snow cone vendor. That's just finely crushed ice. This is finely shaven ice so it's practically a Slurpee(TM) consistency. Basically it's a thick Slurpee(TM) consistency that you'd eat with a spoon. Second, there are all kinds of flavors. The owner was there and asked if it was our first time. It was. He rattles off a bunch of the flavors that are popular, the difference between the natural flavors and the original flavors, the flavors that go well with others, ones that don't go well with others, what is tart, what is sweet, his favorites, etc. We decide on a lime with blackberry. It was good. Above average good. My friends got one that was mango with strawberry. Also good. Above average. And a half and half Pink Lemonade and Unnatural Lime (this is what we called the original flavors since the other flavors are called "Natural"). Very refreshing. Third, the price: For $2.50 you get a medium or $3 you get a large. $4 for a Texas sized and $2 for a small. Pretty good pricing for what you get. We're probably going to come back on Wednesday so we'll have some other flavors then. Excellent. Here are some flavors you should try: Almost anything Natural. The Changito is VERY sour, so make sure you mix it with something. I was going to get it with Strawberry but they suggested getting the natural lime instead of the Changito. It was very good. *Natural Strawberry and Natural Lime* Natural Kiwi and Natural Mango. So good. I think they're out. Last time we went there was definitely no more Kiwi. Natural Watermelon tastes just like watermelon. Probably could use it a little sweeter. The Wife really likes Natural Blackberry. Of the Original flavors, I'd get the Pucker and Ruby Red. They don't really taste like Grapefruit, but it's still pretty good. Our friends love putting the spice on their Sno. I'm not a fan of it but our friends can't have their Sno without it. I can't tell you HOW excited I was when I found a snow cone joint that uses whole fruit as an option for their flavorings, as well as an offering of your traditional sugar syrups. But I did ask if the whole fruit ones had sugar added and it was confirmed that they do indeed. Woe is me, my heart broke. The employees here are SO kind and friendly. They work their assess off to meet the huge bursts of folks that will steadily come in. Taste: Paid nearly $5 for a large natural mango/coconut shaved ice with cream. Price was higher than expected. Shaved ice was a bit coarse and was not the best I have had. Enjoyed flavor of mango more than the coconut, but don't think I would have liked either without the addition of cream. Service: The girls at the cashier and those preparing the order were friendly, and order was received within short wait. Looked like a good spot for younger kids and high schoolers to hang out. You know what I love about summer? Going to Sno!!! This place offers over 30 different types of snow cones. Their fresh shaved ice is what makes their snow cones so special. They've got so many delicious flavors including a section on their menu designated as "natural flavors". Some of their snow cones are even made with fresh produce like mangos & limes which makes the trip all the more worthwhile. Trust me, you will not be disappointed coming to this place but be forewarned - the line can get pretty long if you show up at a peak time. They're located in a little shopping center across from some apartments so they can be a little hard to find at first. Don't let summer pass you by without making a stop to SNO! read more

Oh the childhood memories of the snow cone! While they're all made of ice, the texture of the ice makes such a huge difference. From Slurpees and Slush Puppies to those rock hard ice cube versions in elementary school, there are oh so many varieties. Sno is off Meadow and 75, a neighborhood that's....well....in transition. You can find a wig, eat greasy Chinese buffet cuisine, hang out at an abandoned Luby's turned medical office, or get a gourmet snow cone. All in one! When you walk in the door at Sno, it smells clean. As in Fabuloso clean. I'm sure what scent of cleaner they use but it smells like antibiotic-level lavender. They generally feature the traditional (read: not natural) flavors and natural juice flavors for snow cones. I almost went natural for the less sweat route but I decide to re-live the corn syrup induced childhood memories of the non-natural "Tiger's Blood". I ordered a medium for about $2.50 which was decent price for the size. The texture was awesome and the flavor....well SWEET. I'm not a big sweets person so I couldn't even finish it but I enjoyed it. I could have easily had a small size portion instead. I'm not aware of a big snow cone culture in Dallas but if someone was really into that sorta thing, this would be their place. They snow cones come with a smile and the service is chipper.
