Snow city came highly recommended by Alaska friends and around the corner from our AirBnB. We were there Sunday morning and it was an hour wait...but two counter seats came open and we sat there. Locals around us love this place. The hashbrowns are crispy on outside and soft inside. Coffee is good and great menu. It's a great city diner and there is plenty of happy staff. Cozy breakfast place, first day in AK! Uber driver told us this is the best breakfast place in town, and tend to be very busy. We were up 6:30am and came to this place. It was about 1/4 capacity at 7am when we arrived and when we left at 8am it was 100% full... definitely need to start early. If you come from NYC like us, take advantage of your jet lag perk!! Staff are very welcoming and friendly. Serving time is ok: this is not a fast food place and no one expects quick service. About 5min waiting time before server attends your table and take order, and 10-15min before serving. It's certainly faster than some other areas for leisure, such as Lake Placid. Have to say there's the upside of having some corporation and business around this place and not simply just tourism. The waiting time is quite manageable. Now for my fellow food lovers: Stuffed French Toast: best ever. The first stuffed French toast I had was from around Yellowstone, when I first learned there's such a thing. They had huckleberries there. And this place brought the raspberry/blueberry to the next level. The cream cheese is not gross at all (like many other places) and the density is just about right. Not too sweet which I love. The homemade berry sauce on the side is something to die for. Salmon Benedict: I ordered this mostly because I'd like to have something AK Salmon wise. Figured that's one thing you just have to try while you are in Alaska. First time I had salmon in egg Benedict in a non smoked salmon way. It's ok, a bit fishy, but Andrew says it's what salmon supposed to taste like. It goes very well with raw onion they sprinkle on top. But I won't order it again when I come back. I was in Alaska with a group and was repeatedly told Snow City Cafe is the best place for breakfast in Anchorage. With all this praise, we wanted to check it out for ourselves. The cafe is just that, a bustling cafe. There was a large waiting area that could actually be converted into more seating to avoid such a long wait. The restaurant was loud with people bustling about. Nothing remarkable but nothing unexpected. In the end, I would not return to Snow City Cafe and would go elsewhere for breakfast or brunch in Anchorage. Our server was quite busy or appeared so at least. They felt a bit cold and jumped right to the point of ordering and that was it. We only saw our server take our order and pay the bill. There were no recommendations given for great dishes nor did they seem very happy answering the questions we had. I heard several locals raving about Snow City Cafe and thought that the remaining members of my group ought to try it before we left Alaska. In the end, it didn't live up to its hype and extremely long wait. I found the food to be average, with my Fried Egg Sandwich oily and not very flavorful. Others in my group ordered dishes that appeared the same. Perhaps they were having a tough day in the kitchen. I would not go back to Snow City Cafe. read more

This place was paaaaacked on a weekday during a slow season and for a good reason. We were given a good wait time of 35mins but we ended up getting a table within 20mins. I got the Deadliest Catch Benedict and their famous Snow City Mocha with whipped cream and caramel. The wait was toooootally worth it. This place is a MUST do if you are visiting Anchorage. Don't let the wait time fool you because once you get the table, the service was actually super fast. Even with all their excellent presentation, we kept getting our orders much faster than we expected. We had a tour planned and were unsure if we should eat at the restaurant or just do a take out but glad we stayed and the staff didn't disappoint us. When we told them about our planned tour, they quickly brought us the check and to go boxes for left overs. My only regret is not having enough days in my itinerary to be able to come here for a 2nd time. I will surely visit on my next trip to Anchorage. What's left to say but this is the place to come for great Eggs Benedict. We had a unique experience with the fact that it was very slow which was good because we were late on our reservation (parking on 4th street...). Just a few thoughts, Dana had the Nuevo Huevo and enjoyed the the flavor and texture but would have been happier with more salsa. I had the Kodiak Benedict and enjoyed it, if only they put a little more Hollandaise it would have been great. Unfortunately the first round came out poached over, but the second plate had an explosion of ooey, gooey, yolk flowing over the crab cake and muffin. This place was really really hyped up for me by several people when I asked for anchorage recommendations. Don't get me wrong this place is super cute, but super busy! It took about 20min, but I did eventually get a seat. I got a very standard polar bear breakfast with eggs, bacon and a pancake. The pancake is the size of a dinner plate and very fluffy. The eggs and bacon were very standard, but good. They are known for their Benedict's, but your girl is not an eggs Benny fan. So I can't speak for it, but they looked pretty and they had several variations. They had a full coffee bar with fun concoctions and a few adult beverage items as well.
