A different SHAVED ICE place in Cerritos... and this one is cool! Yess. Lets start with the interior of the place. From the logo being worked in throughout the place without overdoing it, the decorative pieces on the wall that talk about the history of Snowflake, the colors, etc. All signs the owner actually cares about his business. Looks & feels good. Unlike the other shaved ICE place in Cerritos / Artesia that I reviewed, this place has it MOSTLY together. I've been coming here for the past few days not only to feed the fat kid inside of me, but also --- to leave this review. Lets start with the shaved ice. It's amazing. Its as fine of a shaved ice as they come and has a real authentic Hawaiian flavor. That coupled with the soft music in the background really makes me feel like I'm on the Island. Among my favorite, the "Kona". I also tried their version of SNOW - I only tried the honeydew and honestly, not my favorite. I actually tossed it and got the shaved ice on the same visit. I was never compelled to try the other flavors. It just seemed a lot more dense than the snow I've had at other places and I just wasn't a fan personally. Lets talk about the service. Incredible. Everyone is always super friendly and the owner(s) are actually in-house doing the stuff they'd ask their employees to do. I seen the owner moping the floor - I like that. Tip: They have a frequent flyer card but unless you request one you're not likely to be offered one. After I requested one a customer overheard and wasn't very thrilled that she had visited several times before and never got one. Buy 9 shaved ice, get 1 free. Okay, lets talk about my only qualm with this place. The "Drizzle" Ice Cream that they advertise is just okay... and when you're just "okay", you should be at the very least be available on your (dare I say it) only GREAT flavor. I get it, this is their take on Bi-Rite Creamery in SF. I've been going there to Snowflake for the past 3 days. Yes, count them --- 1-2-3. Haha. Anyways, for the past 3 days they've been out of the Vanilla Bean Bacon. Erase it from the board, it's in chalk. I've also never tried the "Blackberry Truffle" because they've never had it. Again, erase it. Cookie Butter ice cream is pretty good --- but not on the board. I asked when the ice cream would be back, the girl helping me was unable to give me an answer. Ouch. I then tried to order a waffle cone to which the girl responded they had run out for the day. Okay look listen, I understand you guys close in an hour but make some damn waffle cones. Haha. Seriously... no waffle cones? You're killing me smalls. Here's the other thing I REALLY disliked. This is probably just a personal preference. I REALLY REALLY dislike when I'm served ice cream with a wooden spoon. Yuck! The consistency of putting my lips to that is equivalent to putting nails to a chalkboard. Maybe it's just me though. I didn't realize the spoon was there probably because I wasn't all that interested in the flavor I was forced into instead of the flavor I actually wanted --- not available. Here's my QUICK reviews on the flavors, ordered most to least favorite: Vanilla Bacon: Favorite. Delicious! Not overdone Strawberry Balsamic: This should have another name. "Balsamic" in the name makes this REALLY DELICIOUS ice cream intimidating. -- Really only liked those two flavors. Nutella: Tastes more like mocha, reminded me almost nothing of nutella. Cookie Butter: Literally eating it as I type this. It's okay, tastes a lot like a really rich vanilla. Blackberry Truffle: they were out of this for days, never tried it because it was never available. Sriracha Thai Tea: Also not a favorite. Salted Caramel: Too overpowering, not at all what I expected. Okay... now lets talk PITAYA bowl. When one of my friends got it on one of our visits I thought... Oh great, she's being fuckin healthy at this place... great. Then, the next day I snuck off and got one on my own. AMAZING. Wtf is in this? After eating it I wasn't hungry for hours. Honestly tasted soo good. Yogurt land on steroids. I can't wait to come back and get this. I know my review of the Drizzle is a bit harsh but for the past few days it's all I came here for. It was my first time here after working out at the gym. My friends and I came on around 8pm and it was pretty busy. There was a lot of kids and honestly, it seemed crazy. I ordered at the cashier and waited to get my shaved snow. My total came out to be around $5. After getting my shaved snow, I basically get to add my own toppings. It's kind of unlimited, almost like Yogurtland. However, you can't refill... Boo hoo! But I don't need it anyways lol. The green tea was yummy. Not too sweet so it was perfect! I never went to the actual store, but went to a birthday party where they had Snowflakes cater for them. So being my first time, I thought it was pretty good for shaved ice. I HAD 2 bowls. The ice was really really light and the flavors tasted great, especially topped with condensed milk. I wish I got the names of the man and woman so I could mention them, but they were real real nice. If I were ever in the area and its hot out, I would definately stop by to get the shaved ice. Or if you are having a party in the summer or when it's hot, these guys Cater, which I think is pretty damn cool, kids would love it, as well as the adults. Strictly review for the shaved snow. Didn't try any of the other items yet. I got a large 1/2 lychee and 1/2 coconut for around 5.50. Then apparently, you can top the container with toppings to your leisure but with no refills. There is caramel and chocolate sauce included but if you want condensed milk on the shaved snow you need to tell the cashier at the front for a 25 cents charge. They offer fruits like lychee, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, canned cherries. They have popping boba in cantaloupe, lychee, strawberry. They have cereals like trix?, fruity pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch. They have green tea mochi, and chocolates like kit kat, Andes mints, and brownie/cheesecake bits. It honestly looked too good to be true and my friend and I excitedly put toppings on our snow. The snow was pretty well flavored but the texture didn't come in sheets or stay that way for long and collapsed pretty quickly. The toppings were in general good but our "fresh" lychee seemed almost bad and my friend spit out her brownie bits. The chocolate does seem a bit dusty with white over it (from the fridge??). Anyway, the berries, cereal, and other fruit were fresh and delicious! I finished it all except the Lychee and kindly told the cashier about it. "How is that possible?! We make it every other day. What did it taste like?!...ok I'll taste it later" I'm pretty sure I know what fresh lychee tastes like..and it wasn't that. Anyway, apparently it's new every other day. I've literally been coming here almost daily since they opened in 2013! The staff are super nice and practically grow up from beginning of my high school years to gaining my undergrad degree. I have never had a problem here they are super friendly and you really get to know the owners if they are there. Although they have gone through changes over the years the taste has not. I am always satisfied every single time. They are very family oriented. The parking is difficult as the plaza has a lot of other stores but worth the wait. I always get the chunky monkey and continually crave it/talk about it even when I'm out of town I love bringing my friends here when they haven't tried and converting them to the deliciousness of what they serve. This review is specifically for their halo halo. It's sweet, cold, crunchy, chewy, creamy, refreshing...it's perfect! As a Filipino, this was a year-round staple in our house. Best Vendor for our sons first birthday! It was an absolute hit! Working with Kevin was amazing. From beginning to end he was the only vendor that really did what they said they would and actually exceeded our expectations.All of our guests expressed how friendly and professional the staff was. They were on time, They set up quickly and before I knew it they were serving my guests. They really made my sons birthday so much better, and made my life easier. We had multiple vendors at the party and again he was one of the only one without issue. The shave ice was so delicious and the halo halo actually sold out! I know for next time to order more! For the catering side (yes they cater events) I have used them for personal parties and corporate appreciation events. All turned out great! They set up with ease and clean up a breeze. They are always upbeat and energetic when helping out the patrons at the events and especially with the kids. They ask if we need more time or want to add more things if needed and if there is no other event after ours they have to take off for. As for the actual store this place hosts many of our PTA fundraising events when I was on the board and also sent donations to our school as well. They have a great area to eat and parking is ample. They also have different things other than shaved ice. There is a Filipino desert dish "Halo-Halo" it's one of the top places I go to when it's being craved by the family. Came here to meet up with my friends after I went to the gym. Located in Cerritos in the plaza off South Street. The parking is shared with other restaurants and eateries. An ok sized place there are a few tables and chairs. The staff was friendly and helpful. I got the Chunky Monkey Acai bowl which was good pretty similar to the one I had at Beach Bowls in Torrance. You get 10% off with check in but it applies only to the fit choices not the shave ice choices. The place is clean and have a restroom although the sign on the door says no public restroom. Overall not a bad place the Acai bowls I think are the winner here. read more

Which is much better than most of my food addictions. It's the Acai bowl Chunky Monkey. "What is a chunky monkey?" you may ask, well I'll explain. It's a blended Acai berry which is frozen I believe with coconut milk, strawberries, peanut butter and raw chocolate. You hooked yet? Let me keep going! Bumping up the star rating to an official FIVE STARS!! I've recently re-discovered Snowflakes, and re-kindled my love for it. I don't know when they added it, but in addition to their shaved snow and shaved ice, they also have Acai bowls and Halo Halo! Their Halo Halo is amazing. It even has my Filipino mom's stamp of approval. It's not too sweet, and a good ratio of beans and other toppings. They also use the shaved ice used for their shaved ice menu items, which makes it a perfect soft and never clumpy texture. I also like the wide mouth container it is served in. Makes mixing it a lot less messy! Only thing it's missing? Leche flan, but I GUESS I can do without it. Their Acai bowls are jam packed with healthy goodies. While everyone was lining up for Sharetea next door, we decided to stop by Snowflake on the hunt for one thing -- Halo mutha frickin halo. Sadly, I didn't get to try their shaved ice if y'all are wondering. Shaved ice looked hella good though so I'll definitely update this review on my next visit. You wouldn't expect halo halo to come from a store mostly known for their shaved ice, but it looks like this place is Filipino owned so they had to make an exception. I'm not complaining though. These guys really know how to make one hell of a dessert. Once you mix everything together, the halo halo still retains a strong true-to-taste ube flavor without being too overly sweet. I wish they had more servings of toppings in there, but it was delicious nonetheless. Best part though -- the rice crispies! I would have never expected this from halo halo, but made all the difference. As far as Açaí bowls go, Snowflakes is hard to beat. I've tried Açaí bowls from at least a half-dozen places in and around La Habra/La Mirada/Cerritos since last summer and their flavor, composition and value tops my list. Only an Açaí bowl I had in Maui was better than Snowflakes..and it may have earned an extra star for location! Ha! If you like your "base" not frozen, just blended, the right amount of oats (especially non-hemp oats for those of us who don't want to ask the question....will eating hemp granola make me pee funny since my job uses random drug testing) peanut butter mixed in - when you get "Chunky Monkey" instead of just a clump on top (so irritating at other places I've visited), and fresh fruit in a great proportion, you want a Snowflakes Açaí bowl. It all eats together nicely. They take telephone orders and have friendly folks. I can't tell if the total volume has decreased over the last couple of months. If it has that would be my only complaint. If it's the same volume it's been for a couple years, then they are doing great to give a good value. Yum! read more

I guess I understand now the Açaí Bowl revolution!
