We are in town for a friend's wedding and asked her to recommend somewhere with good food that's family friendly, and she recommended snug harbor. We have two kids and wanted to make sure we wouldn't have a long wait, so my husband called ahead. They assured us we would have a max of 10 minute wait for a table of 6 ( us, my parents, and our two young children). Great, we drive to the restaurant and find out there is a 45 minute wait. We end up separating and my parents have their own table. There was room to join the two tables, but the hostess refused. After we sat down, they were very accommodating with my dad's dietary restrictions. Also, our food came out very fast. They were busy but they still managed to get us a table by the water that we requested (score) and the service was prompt and we had a super nice waitress! This is not the only reason why I'm writing the review- the food was awesome! If I could give this place triple zeros I would. I was really looking forward to having a nice meal and taking in the beautiful views. The menu looked amazing. I almost could not decide on my meal because of so many good choices. I wanted to try them all. But this fantasy came to a screeching halt. After waiting over one hour, we were served raw calamari that was right out of the freezer. We could have gotten a food borne illness if we would have ingested it. It was plated in a cute basket and was garnished with lemons and everything. Please make me understand how the cook and server failed to notice this or even the person who put the lemons in the basket and dipping sauces on the side. I noticed it immediately and I don't work in the restaurant business nor do I eat calamari on a frequent basis. I can't say for certain but it sure seemed like a coordinated effort. By the way I am African-American and can't help but think this incident was racially motivated. We left immediately after the incidence. We called later and spoke to a manager who apologized and offered us a chance to come back in for a complimentary meal but we declined. The location is right on the channel. We sat on the coveted deck which was lovely. I had the Seafood Penne (Penne, lobster, crab, jumbo shrimp, spinach, and creamy tomato sauce, topped with provolone and Parmigiano-Reggiano). Patio is great, service was outstanding, food was much better than I expected. Two of us had the Porterhouse steak, one had the filet and others had mac and cheese, salad and chicken fingers. I can say that was one of the best steaks I've ever had, way higher than my expectations and what you'll usually get at a non-steak house. The others who ordered steak loved them too. While in Grand Haven for our anniversary, many people recommended Snug Harbor, and I am glad we listened. The atmosphere was very comfortable and casual. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Our drinks were delivered promptly. As for the food, it was fantastic. I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Pork, and it was by far the best thing I have put in my mouth in a long time. I mean, it's pork wrapped in more pork. It doesn't get much better than that. My wife ordered the Chicken Duxelle, and thought it was delicious. Great food and even better service. My pad Thai was top notch and had just the right amount of spice. The kids meals were $5 and included a drink. The kids mac n cheese was real good as well. They had a nice selection of craft brew and didn't gouge you for them. They were around $6 for a pint. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area. read more

Came here for a late lunch with my gf. The atmosphere and the service was great but our food was pretty sad. I ordered the sesame chicken which just had an odd taste with it. I never thought I'd say that I prefer mall Chinese but this entree was pretty sad. My girlfriends chicken sandwich was ok, nothing special. DO NOT ORDER THE SUSHI! We sat at the bar for dinner where we proceeded to watch two 16 year olds make the sushi, This one guy in perticular was swearing and pulling on his mesh shorts and then going right back to touching the food. Then we ordered the hummus for an appetizer. Definitely the best part of the meal! One of the specials was swordfish tacos. Since it was in their specials I figured it had to be good. Food was cold, and the fries were soggy by the time they reached our table. I asked for ranch on the side instead of the honey mustard that came in the chicken wrap. Chicken wrap came... No ranch. He said he'd "be right back". 25 minutes later he came to our table to see if we needed anything else. Mind you, no one at our table has even had our drinks replenished since the time we sat down. At this point we said cancel the ranch, I wasn't going to continue eating the wrap any way. Chicken was very bland and dried out. Almost like a chicken nugget that had been microwaved too long. We also had the Thai salad. That came out without dressing. My mom said it was not good. For reference, she said Applebee's makes a much better Asian salad, and she really dislikes Applebee's. The other 2 in our party said the food was mediocre. Even though this place was recommended, and had pretty high Yelp reviews, it was a total zero. We will never eat here again. ok, i have a bold statement to make. if the snug wasn't on the channel with a nice deck and view, it wouldn't be a very good restaurant. and here's why. took the whole family (me, wife, three kids) last night and we all had "real" meals - meaning none of the kids had chicken nuggets or grilled cheese. i had 2 beers, my wife had 1 glass of wine and we split 1 dessert between us all. my wife and i had two of the specials, kid 1 had the crab cake appetizer as his meal, kid 2 had chicken pasta parmesian and kid 3 had the seafood pasta. the food was pretty mediocre - everybody left full (even with some leftovers) and everybody liked their dish well enough. however, the total cost of the meal with tip was $168 which i think is way too much money for food that isn't anything special. we had this meal on a november saturday night inside - so no view of the lake, no summer breeze and no sunset to watch. in a town like grand haven, location and "presentation" are part of the meal and, without it, snug harbor isn't worth the trip. bil-mar gets a bad rap for having a great location but average food and snug harbor is right there with them, in my opinion. read more

Had my birthday dinner out on the deck recently. The good: servers were friendly, view was great. The portobello mushroom sandwich was excellent and the sweet potato fries were perfect, as was the aioli. We both had tasty cocktails and delicious dessert. Everything on the menu tempted us. This food snob would eat here again. The bad: the sun was strong and I held my menu up to shield my face during most of the meal. We asked to lower the shade but the manager said no. Wow. We were pleasantly surprised with Snug Harbor. Went here with the hubs and the bub for an early dinner. Service was very friendly and accommodating to our short time frame that we allotted for dinner before our toddler would have a meltdown. I had a lemon shrimp pasta and hubs had seared ahi tuna. Great pricing but maybe we're just jaded from Chicago menus. I'd say we enjoyed this dinner the most of all of the places we went in Grand Haven (including Portabellas, Kirby House, and Dee lite Diner). read more

Yuck! Yet another Grand Haven restaurant that doesn't give a damn about its food because it's located on the water and knows tourists will pay for the view. I visited Snug the other day after many years of passing by and wondering what all the fuss was about. Suffice to say that I ended the night eating Burger King so I didn't go to bed hungry. The seafood pasta was awful. A confusing mess of tomato sauce, cream and a ridiculous, hardened caked-on crust of parmesan cheese. Yes there were a few pieces of cheap crab meat somewhere in there. But shouldn't seafood pasta taste like, I dunno, seafood, instead of the inside of a Kraft delivery truck? For appetizers the calamari wasn't terrible, but it was served with pizza sauce instead of cocktail. Yes, you have that right. Pizza sauce and calamari. The crab cakes were starchy and bland - entirely unseasoned. And don't get me started on the prices. 23 dollars for the world's worst seafood pasta? Just remember you're paying for the view, not the food. The location is indeed on the river, and the restaurant itself is clean and nice. If you're looking for a meal however, the Pronto Pup around the corner sells corndogs for a couple bucks. It's not haute cuisine, but at least it's edible. read more
