First time to eat at this excellent restaurant. We live in Norton Shores - so about a 45 minute drive which explains why we've never visited. From start to finish, we were treated by super welcoming, efficient staff. Our waitress, Krista, was attentive, warm & friendly & efficient. Our soup: Carrot Ginger was light and delicious - a perfect summer appetizer. Our entrees were unique & delicious: Shrimp Scampi with Mussels, Jambalaya, Salmon, & Mahi, Mahi which my husband asked not to be blackened and the chef delivered even though they were busy. Our deserts were exceptional: 2 Chocolate Tortes, Artfully presented and delicious Carrot Cake, and Tiramisu. Came here on a Wednesday night around 7 pm, there was still a good crowd inside and on the deck. Menu had a lot of options, i ate there with my mom and she got a were salad which she said was very large. I got the classic burger which is $18 for a half a pound of burger, which is normal pricing. Also got the skinny fries which were very good with the house sauce. And also got the bbq chicken pizza. The food came out very quick in about 15 min after ordering, the burger was cooked very well and was very juicy. The pizza was a 12" pizza and the dough was very nice, the cheese was a bit juicy and the pizza tasted very good. read more

Went with another couple on a Thursday night hoping it wouldn't be too busy. We were wrong about that so things took a bit longer, but no real problem. But the problem was the preparation of our meals. My friend ordered the Faroe Island Salmon. It was WAY overcooked. He should have sent it back, but was too polite and didn't want to take the time to have it prepared again. His wife ordered Chicken Tetrazzini. Big mistake. Garlic was so strong she could barely eat any of it. It was as though the garlic was left raw and not sautéed. My wife ordered the Lemon Pepper Chicken. At best it was okay. Got the job done (satisfied her hunger). I had the smash burger, which was very good but the accompanying sweet potato fries were as limp as could be. Each time we go to Sandy Point we rationalize that they were just really busy, but now after a few times there, we're pretty sure it isn't going to get better. Really enjoyed the experience at Sandy Point Beach House. Our server was excellent. Very pleasant. And fully described the preparations for the dishes we asked about. The tuna "nachos" were excellent. I could've eaten a dozen of them lol. My tomato bisque also was quite good. I had mussel entre and my wife had the grouper. The mussels were just a bit underseasoned but overall were very good. My wife loved the grouper. The setting is very nice. And on a warmer day it would've been nice to sit outside. As for the ice cream truck in the parking lot... Stay away. Not inexpensive and the servings were tiny. Only flavor was vanilla. read more

Arrived on a Tuesday night around 6pm. They were out of fish & chips and salmon. Not off to a great start. I ordered a wedge salad and it was underwhelming. Hard to get this basic salad wrong but they did. Lettuce was not cold, no blue cheese crumbles to be found (unless microscopic), bacon crumbles were sparse and tasteless, blue cheese dressing was watery and also tasteless, the chopped egg was undercooked. All in all, not a salad I would ever order again. I understand food costs are up but this had no value and no flavor. Hope you will improve this salad. read more

After five years, we thought we'd give this place another shot. Mistake! The service was the only redeemable element of our dinner last night -- she was attentive and personable! The outdoor furniture was uncomfortable, dingy and flimsy. The food? Buckle your seatbelt! My daughter ordered the pasta with vodka sauce and it tasted like it came out of a jar. I ordered tuna nachos. The 6 or 7 chips were enormous and placed in a row each with a single, nickel-sized pieces of tuna buried under tons of sliced ginger. The flavor was ok. The portion size was chintzy. My mother had white fish with asparagus and potatoes. There were three pieces of asparagus each thinner than a shoe-string (not exaggerating) and the white fish had zero flavor. My husband ordered a Caesar salad with salmon. The salmon was actually a good sized portion and well cooked. The little bit of lettuce had colorless leaves that were browning at the stems. To sum it up, it was expensive and the food was awful! We had a 7:30 reservation that I made this morning for 5 of us for my husband's birthday. When I made the reservation I could've picked any time slot that worked for us as everything was wide open... yet when we arrived they seemed to be out of tables for 5 so they stuck us in a banquet room where we were all by ourselves at a table for 12. Not a great way to start a special evening out. I ordered the Caesar salad, which was as basic as possible.. I didn't realize you could mess up a Caesar. No croutons just a couple of pieces of bread. A few pieces of cheese sprinkled around, lettuce was chopped up too fine for a Caesar and yellow edges. Too much dressing and not tossed with the salad just dropped on the top. For $14 I would've expected a little more. Our server was great though, she knew the table location was odd at best for someone who had a reservation. So she came in often... but when I booked it I wrote in that it was for a birthday and it was never even brought up by the waitress. Just ignored. First time visit. Nice beach house setting with plenty of outdoor spaces for waiting and patio dining. Interior was spacious. Local breweries beer in draft rotation. The lunch menu starts at noon. Since we were early nibbled in grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. The best! The bread used was delicious and nutty. Ordered salmon- was cooked well, crispy on the outside and buttery. White fish - baked with Parmesan and comes on creamy sauce with roasted potatoe carrot medley Mussels - the best I have had, comes in a rich creamy sauce. The Parmesan bread was just perfect to dip into Blueberry mocktail was delicious! Service was prompt and our waitstaff kept checking in frequently and friendly. read more

SPBH is the sort of place you'd imagine stopping by if you were taking a leisurely drive along Route 66 (and also if West Michigan had a Route 66). There's always a charm about a building setback from the dusty road that says come sit for a spell (you know, if you like to measure your time in spells). Popular among locals and visitors, SPBH nestles along the lakeshore conveniently between Grand Haven and Holland. Open year round, but they shine brightest during the summer when the outdoor seating and entertainment are in full swing. Food offerings are varied and can be tasty. The Bang Bang Shrimp app is a winner. Was tough for me to justify $28 for the fish (it's cod) and chips (they're French fries). And the tartar sauce tastes more like the horseradish sauce you'd put on prime rib. Staff simply might have been having a rough day because we ordered stroganoff and were sent rib tips. My other half also couldn't detect any booze in her vodka and soda. But I was happy with the $3 beer specials! Add it all up and its great vibe and location. Mixed opinions about the value for the money. I'm still looking for that signature dish that I'd crave coming back for. But there's tons of potential and I wish Sandy Point lots of love for the upcoming summer rush! read more

This place was very nice and takes accommodations for large groups! We had a party of over 10 people, and they were great with taking (and modifying) our reservation in advance. The service was wonderful, and the restaurant on the inside was light and airy! The reason for the 4/5 stars was because it was truly so expensive. Any added on price was a bit outrageous (for example, the summer salad was $16, to add on salmon was an additional $18). I'm not sure if anyone in our party agreed that the high prices were worth the food, but it was an overall great experience! I have a service dog and am happy to report that all the staff was wonderful with her. They treated her with respect and even thanked me for bringing a real service animal into the restaurant (not a fake one). I always appreciate establishments like this that go out of their way in respecting ADA and caring for individuals like me!! read more

Talk about an amazing location and great ambiance--Sandy Point is the kind of place where you could serve Gordon Food Service spinach artichoke dip for days and still turn a profit. But the real reason people choose to celebrate special occasions here is because, when they're on their game, the food is genuinely excellent. The past few years have been tough, but they finally brought in a new chef who's set things back on track. Unfortunately, tonight, something went sideways. It seems the manager left her common sense somewhere in Lake Michigan between West Olive and Milwaukee. On the bright side, our server--a business school student--was fantastic. She was sharp, responsive, and handled a bar with 8-9 tickets in the queue while still making a personal connection with my daughter about her dinner. I'd hire her at my company in a heartbeat. Everything that came to our table was delicious and well-prepared, exactly the kind of meal I remember from the pre-COVID days. I was even reviewing the wine list for potential business dinners--things were that promising. Yes, the pace was slow, but I understood--storms in the area had brought in an unexpected crowd. We were patient. We've been there ourselves, having just dealt with tornado damage near Holland. We ordered four desserts. All four arrived, but one was wrong. A drink we ordered never showed up. Still, we rolled with it. Then, less than 10 minutes after the final dessert mishap, and after a long evening of waiting on drinks, appetizers, and desserts, the manager approached our table--not to check on us, not to apologize--but to ask us to free it up for the next party. Without consulting the clearly capable waitress. I couldn't imagine spending hundreds of dollars to close a deal, celebrate a big night, or propose--only to be rushed out like that. It was jarring, inconsiderate, and completely out of sync with the otherwise excellent experience. So--Management--thank you for restoring Sandy Points culinary excellence. Since we moved to this side of the state we've been trying local fish fry's. We're from Wisconsin and grew up where a fish fry is a food staple. So last Friday we went to Sandy Point. We order the fish fry. The top item on the plate were the french fry's. Hot and crispy but way too many. A good way to make it like you got a lot of food. The coleslaw was below mediocre and not worth eating. I was expecting the fish to be good as Cod is a great tasting fish. Unfortunately it needed seasoning - it was bland. What really stood out was one of the three pieces of Cod that was burned black and charred - and put on the plate with that side down. Yeah, you'll never notice. Well I did. And so did my wife. She had a burned black and charred piece on her plate too with the burned side hidden from view. Normally I would have rated the meal as unremarkable and moved on. But burning and serving a portion of fish like that on two plates makes Sandy Point deserving of review. We previously went there on our anniversary in September and had an unremarkable meal that said go back and try them again. After Fridays meal we will not go back. read more

I've had a delicious meal and weeks later, had a not so good one (yesterday) The carrots that came with the supposed short ribs, (looked like pot roast honestly), we straight up nearly raw. Went for my husband's birthday. PROS: nice setting, great server, not too pricey CONS: dry and burnt mushroom appetizer, loud and crying babies sitting right next to us in an empty restaurant. Food used to be so wonderful and now it is just average. Maybe we didn't order the right stuff? The Charcuterie board was fresh but just salami and cheese/ crackers. How about add some jams, olives, cherry tomatoes? or something creative? It wasn't busy in the restaurant either for these brain farts to happen. Liked this place! 4.5. A beautiful beachy restaurant with a nice outdoor venue area. It is definitely higher end, but the service is friendly and unpretentious. I had an absolutely excellent burger cooked perfectly medium rare as I asked for with gorgonzola and bacon jam. The burger size surpassed the bun which was appreciated. My BF had a very tasty steak stir fry. We split the cran stuffed mushrooms which were huge and delicious...Yes, it's pricey, but worth it. read more

We have had the opportunities to eat here 2x this past summer - it's not close to us but we found ourselves in West Olive and we are so happy we came the Sandy Pointe. OUr first visit was dinner and we were super impressed with everything we got. Service was great and the ambiance even better. We sat inside, although their outside areas look super nice. We had the burger and LINGUINE AND U-10 SCALLOPS - the linquine was AMAZING. I literally woke up the next morning and ate my leftovers for breakfast. The second time we came was for brunch. I called around 9AM and asked if they were able to accomodate 20 of us around 10:30AM - we were happy to sit at more than one table, we were on one check, and we would be as easy as possible - they were able to accommodate us and we were super grateful since it was a little last minute for such a big group (we had family pictures taken down the road and did not preplan brunch!) We were in the front room and had it to ourselves which was awesome. Food took a little longer than normal, but there were 20 of us, so to be expected. I had the LA CONNECTA TACOS and let me tell you... they were amazing. Everyone single person raved about their food. I believe one said it was the best brunch they ever had. Our kids were gathering rocks in the sand and having fun. When we were getting ready to leave the owner came over and told us to not come back again because our kids were not supervised. Not only was she hilarious, she managed a busy bar with ease. She remembered my husband and I's exact order from when we visited over 3 months ago! Unfortunately had a pretty poor experience this evening at Sandy Point Beach House. All round, would avoid on the weekends this summer if you can. After being seated and ordering drinks/apps/food the following happened: - more than half of what we wanted to order was sold out. However, instead of the staff saying that it was sold out and suggesting an alternative or asking if we wanted to order something else... they just brought that order with a modification. That we didn't want or ask for. - it's clear they've hired a ton of seasonal staff of high school kids who have no idea how to do the job or what's on the menu, etc. - both gender bathrooms were out of toilet paper or had an entire stall/urinal out of order. - considering the prices, the food and drinks were incredibly middle tier. Not worth the semi premium price tag. Might be better during non summer or weekdays but not worth visiting IMO. read more

In regards to my husband's review, we had a wonderful experience up until the very end. We sat outside after dinner and could see our kids the entire hour we were there. We danced with them and they had a cute rock stand trying to give them to people for free. Right when we were leaving, our 6 and 7 year old girls stood on the chair and jumped off. Mind you, they are large chairs that are low to the ground and in the sand. I was about to tell them to get down when the owner aggressively came over and told them not to climb the furniture. He said he didn't want them getting hurt. I agree they shouldn't have done that, but he wouldn't let it go. He was completely inappropriate. Had he approached us and asked us nicely not to let them do that, we would have apologized and said of course. It's always embarrassing that one moment you didn't see your kids as they make a poor choice. Instead he came over to us as his wife was trying to physically hold him back and yelled at us saying, "I don't like parents who don't watch their kids. You aren't allowed to ever come back!" The other patrons there were shocked, shaking their heads and said how ridiculous he was towards us. There was a gentleman at the bar who said he had been going there for 30 years and had never seen anything like it. Again, I will reiterate that our kids didn't make a good choice, but they were never in danger. We had our eyes on them and were interacting the entire hour we were outside. If anybody made a poor choice, it was the owner with his degrading and disrespectful approach. We have been going there for 20 years. We had a $200 meal and tipped the server $50. We tipped the singer $40 and our server outside was well taken care of. We would love to come back and start over with this terrible experience. We do apologize for our kids standing on the chairs and we would never want to create a poor experience for the other patrons, but we also feel we deserve an apology for the experience we had with the owner. read more

Check your bill carefully! We ate at Sandy Point twice in the last week, with two different groups of friends. A "happy hour" sign on each table promoted a deal for each day of the week -- Monday discounts on appetizers and drinks, Wednesday half-off on bottles of wine, etc. The deals were "all day", not time-limited, and confirmed by our waiter. On each occasion, a number of items were ordered qualifying for the promotional pricing. When the bill came, however, all items that should have had promotional pricing were billed at the regular price. It was only after our credit cards had been run that someone noticed that erroneous prices had been charged. The first night, we simply informed the waitstaff, and the charges were corrected. The second time this happened within a week, however, the manager came to our table and informed us at some length that this was the way the restaurant's computer system handles it. AS IF IT WERE THE CUSTOMER'S PROBLEM! A twice in a week coincidence? Or an underhanded practice of a restaurant that gets away with overcharging because patrons don't examine their bills closely? If this is a recurring problem with the way the restaurant's computer system is set up, wouldn't a manager make sure that the waitstaff is instructed how to correctly charge items, rather than simply wait to see if the customer notices the overcharges? We have not been regulars at Sandy Point, so we don't have any recent experiences of correct billing. We also generally give the bill little more than a quick bottom-line glance, and might not have noticed. While our entrees and the service was fine, the overcharged billing, and then defending it to the customers, left a bad taste. T. Subsequent edit: After posting this review, the general manager posted a response below. I replied with this message to the general manager: Jeanne - Thanks for your response. Ultimately the manager did adjust the bill so that the overcharges were removed. However, if he is correct that your system does not correctly charge the "happy hour" prices, that is not acceptable and should be fixed, or servers should be instructed about the problem and told to correct it before presenting the bill and waiting to see if customers notice. I go to restaurants trusting my bill to be correct, other than an occasional entry error. The last thing a customer wants is to have to be flyspecking the bill at the end of an enjoyable dinner with friends. This appears to be a systemic failure that your restaurant permits to exist, and, as such, SPBH has lost my trust. read more

The wedge salad, add chicken breast, is as close to heavenly as possible. They make all their own dressings, sauces, and deserts. Their Steaks, fish, sandwiches, and appetizers are all incredible, as is the atmosphere. If you have not been there, you're missing one of the best places in west Michigan. The bad: Overpriced food & drinks. Small portions. Slow service. The good: nice ambiance, delicious food, not crowded on a Saturday night. The place has a nice atmosphere, the food was good & it wasn't that crowded for a Saturday night. The problem was our waiter dropped off our water, came back in 15 minutes to see if we wanted to order drinks, came back in another 15 minutes to ask if we wanted food & never came back to check on us. I recently dined at the Sandy Point Beach House and I enjoyed my meal as well as the service. The place is clean, well-managed, has excellent food, and a welcoming / helpful staff. If I lived in the area, I would happily eat here often. The place is quite literally a hidden gem in the Holland, Michigan area. Props to ownership and management for running a tight ship. All six of us were so very pleased with our food, the service, and the ambiance of the beach house tonight. The summer salad, the chowder,the rib eye , the salmon perfectly cooked, the smash burger and the jambalaya were exactly right. It is indeed rare for all six diners to love everything they ordered. I'm a sucker for places that have a beach vibe and that's basically what Beach House provides. They have a huge outdoor area with an outdoor bar. It's a large environment, so the servers have a long way to go, hence some of the complaints I've seen on here for wait time. I wasn't overly impressed by their food, but I came here on a nice night, had a bottle of white and stuffed myself. But... If you provide wine, especially outside, there needs to be an ice bucket. My whitefish was said to have a "light cream finish" and it was basically the base of the dish. Everything I had was covered in the cream. It tasted good, but it was a LOT of cream finish. If I'm disappointed in my food the next time I come, maybe it'll be a three, but it's a four for now since there likely will be a next time. read more

I had the beet salad and the salmon for dinner, followed by their flourless chocolate torte. The beet salad was the best part. Isn't that weird? The salmon was just okay. I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce and the fish was slightly undercooked on top and overcooked on the skin. It didn't feel balanced with the proportions of sauce to sides to fish. The cake was DENSE and not very flavorful. Who says dessert is their least favorite thing? It's a sad moment when that happens. But that beet salad had texture, flavor, and it was well-balanced. It was really good. I don't know if I'd go back there for just the beet salad, but maybe. My husband and our friend both had the caesar salad and my friend didn't even want to finish it because it wasn't very good. Our friend had the steak which was "okay" and my husband had the white fish which he enjoyed. I admit it was much better than the salmon. For dessert, they had cheese cake which was "just what you expect for plain cheesecake". Overall, it's underwhelming with a few stars. read more

We Walked into music blaring ...Elvis Presley. The front room by the water had 2 other couples seated. We were sat directly against a wall with a warbling table my husband fixed since we couldn't find anyone to help and didn't want to switch seats on our own. Candles on the tables not lit. My husband ordered the chowder & Beef stroganoff he loved both. They also had "his scotch" in an 18yr he was over the moon. I on the other hand ordered the tuna tacos... not impressed by the flavor, the presentation was beautiful. This was our first time here and it will most definitely be our last.
