Saw this place after shopping at Hmart and knew I had to come back and try it. It's located in a small food court attached to Hmart with many asian restaurants around. Most people that come here do takeout but I decided to eat there. I came with two others and we ordered the Regular Wang Jokbal. The lady there was super nice and we were served within a couple minutes with 6 banchan plates, a bowl of rice, along with water cups (self serve machine in front of their booth area). There was a lot of jokbal. A lot of slices and even some of knuckle pieces next to it. The banchan was so delicious especially the perilla leaves. The tomatoey kinda acidic and sweet flavor of it was perfect with the jokbal. We pretty much cleared all of the banchan and asked for a box to take the leftovers go. My favorite Jokbal (pork trotter) place. My usual is the large Wang Jokbal ($63) which comes with banchan, delicious garlic, and lasts my boo and I at least 3 meals. They also serve kookbap and sikye. Located inside the Hmart food court, this place is a gem. Traditional Korean food at its finest, and they show videos of how they marinate the pork trotter. One of the videos on loop is this Korean celebrity Hong Jin Kyung drinking soup right in front, who you might recognize as one of the Singles Inferno hosts. Dare I say one of the best kimchis(regular one and Perilla leaves-깻잎 장아찌) I had from Orange County! Jokbal was really good too. It was thin, which made it easier to eat. This was my first time eating jokbal and I really enjoyed the experience. There really aren't that many restaurants that specialize in jokbal in the Los Angeles area other than in Koreatown and in Garden Grove. So Moon Nan Jokbal is in Garden Grove, in the HMart food court and is the highest rated restaurant for jokbal in GG. A regular size order is enough for a family of 4 with leftovers. It comes with a full Styrofoam box with sliced braised pork trotters, a separate box of lettuce, celery and carrot sticks, and panchan: barley, baby radish kimchi, sliced radish, doenjang, fermented shrimp. The jokbal is served on the cold side so I steamed the leftovers which I highly recommend. The portions are huge. The entire top layer is slice after slice of meat and the whole bottom layer is knobby bone parts that still have plenty of meat in them. The braising liquid is very subtle, some soy but it doesn't over power the meat at all. I made wraps with everything that came with and enjoyed it all. Service was warm, and it was Valentine's day so they even gave Valentine's candy and rolled the pickled radish slices into rosettes for a festive touch. read more

Navigated to So Moon Nan Jokbal and was surprised for a sec that it was located inside the H-Mart food court--heads up, if anyone else was like me and stumbled across this randomly from maps/Google/Yelp. The bossam is said to be enough for two to three people, according to the menu;but my partner and I left with enough leftovers for another meal for both of us--generous portions would be an understatement here! The pork belly was cooked to perfection, and we were given an awesome selection of kimchi to go along with our meal. I had a craving for jok bal while in Santa Ana so I yelped for a place nearby. This place was #1 on the list and wasn't too far away. I ordered the jok bal combo which includes soon dae and also ordered a apron dae guk (soup). The ride home was about 15 mins and I opened everything up as soon as I got home. Jok bal and soon dae were pretty good. They did a good job of packing everything: kimchi, lettuce, etc. I forgot to ask for soon dae only for the soup and it had all this gnarly mystery meat: too advanced for my palette. Do not be deceived by the fact that this restaurant is located in a market food court. It is the best jokbal you will find in all of OC and probably LA. The jokbal itself is very clean, has lots of meat (no junk fillers), and comes with plenty of well packaged side dishes. PLUS it's not even expensive for the amount of food you get. My advice is to get a jokbal combo from here to go, order a set of wang mandoo from the restaurant right next to it, and take it all home to enjoy with beer/soju. read more

My last visit to this place was when the previous owner was still in business. Hoping that food and service still exist with the new owner, I decided to try. Was I wrong, service was never there, no greeting, no smiling, just motionless image. I ordered soondae with mixed pork parts. Soup looked decent at first till I tasted. Mixed pork meats supposed to be chewy, not soggy and the soup has nasty pork smell. They suppose to eliminate the pork smell when they cook period of times with herbs and spices. Price was pricy at $18 including tax. Not worth it, missed previous owner. I hope the new owner read this review and try to correct her attitude toward customers and learn more in cooking before serving to the public. read more
