She was personable, knowledgeable of the menu, and super easy to chat with which made our visit. Food/Drink - Short rib is delicious, decadent, polenta is creamy, the short rib is seasoned well and super tender. I could bath in the sauce. - the arugula salad is simple yet tasty. It's tossed in oil with red pepper flakes and Parmesan cheese. - the chicken breast sliders were seasoned well and crispy. - the avocado bruschetta was more like an avocado toast but it was good. The fried onions complimented it and the bread was thick and soft. Lemon drop was fantastic. The espresso martini is one of the best I've had and taste how it's supposed to (a spiked espresso). I ate at the Social Bird for lunch after hiking the Lafayette reservoir . Everything was delicious ! I had the chicken sliders which were amazing ! They came with a side serving of the truffle fries !!! We also tried the salmon tartar with avocados and the fish tostadas !!! Our waitress was super nice and the environment was causal but nice. The portions aren't the best for "sharing" and its super over priced. Starting with the Korean fried chicken wings. They are good but not great.... There's a pop of flavor thats missing. They are sweet and sticky but lack the umami flavor Also got the summer squash. Super good but the portion size is so small. The octopus is good but was overcooked. Lots of grease on the plate which drowned out the flavor. It needed a punch of acid. Hot sauce also good but not super spicy. Super pricey for the serving size ($2) Lastly the peach tarte. Stopped in for dinner recently and overall, the experience was good, but not great. Service was the highlight - everyone was super friendly and helpful. The wine list is a decent size, but not a ton of international options if that's what you're into. Some of the wines were very reasonably priced while others had the standard 2x wholesale markup. The 2021 Occidental Freestone-Occidental Pinot was a great deal at $88 as it costs $65-70 retail to buy the wine. We had a couple starters and one entree to share and it was a ton of food, They definitely do not skimp on the portion sizes. We had the truffled hand-cut fries and the while tasty, you could barely smell or even taste the truffle oil. The aioli it was served with was delicious though, and the fries were perfectly cooked - crispy exterior with a soft, creamy interior. The salmon tartare was also really enjoyable, though pieces of the avocado had visible oxidation/bruising, which while it did not impact the flavor, was a bit of a turn off. The burrata was the least enjoyable dish. Tomatoes this season just aren't so hot, but they're especially bad when under-seasoned. Burrata itself also needs to be seasoned, but it was pretty lacking and lastly, the crostini served with the dish were stale. For the shared entree, we had the pork chop, which we asked to be cooked as the chef prefers. We were advised that would be medium rare, which is perfect for a high quality piece of pork. Unfortunately, what came out was very obviously over done - medium well at best - and could've used a touch more salt. The flat beans served with the dish were significantly undercooked, but the other accompaniments were really nice. Overall, the food was okay, but certainly could've been better. There's a theme here of complacency - whoever is in charge of the kitchen is responsible for the quality of the prep and the dishes going out and this oversight is severely lacking IMHO. I suggested Social Bird for dinner with my friend the other week. I had bookmarked this place on Yelp actually thinking it was a different restaurant that I thought I passed by while driving. Social Bird turned out to be an excellent choice anyway! My friend and I were very impressed by the taste of all the dishes we shared! There wasn't anything that was mediocre! For starters we shared the Steamed 3/4 Pound of Pei Mussels which are cooked in a coconut sauce and served with garlic bread. We ordered the Risotto which has truffle oil, mushrooms, spinach, chives and parmesan. We also got an order of Fried Mary's Chicken Breast & Buttermilk Biscuit Sliders with a side of Truffle Fries. It all tasted delicious! I was telling my friend that the chef's back there really know what they're doing! I also got a cocktail with my meal but I forgot which one! So disappointed in this experience. I am a slower eater than some of the people I eat with. Every quality restaurant knows, you never clear the plates until everyone is finished. It's simply rude. Otherwise, the person who isn't finished either sits there eating, feeling this enormous pressure to chug it down, or, gives up and lets them take the food away. In Denny's, I'd expect this. Not at Social Bird. My companions tonight had their dinner plates whisked away while I still had half of my hanger steak on my plate. This is a great local establishment. Great cocktails and a nice selection of wine and craft beer. The food is still the highlight. They take great care in their dishes and keep the menu interesting and worth coming back to try new dishes. The ambience is nice but inside it is a bit tight and can get a bit noisy and therefore less intimate. The outside patio is nice when the weather is right. My most recent favorites have been Beet Salad, Braised Short Ribs, Fried Chicken Sandwich, Korean Fried Chicken Wings, and the grilled octopus small plate. It is a bit on the pricey side. That said, I believe the quality is there to justify the cost. read more

I visited Social Bird on Sunday for my birthday! It was busy, however I was able to sit at the bar without a wait-- I was solo! The service was great, Kelly makes the best Mai Thai in the whole world, perfectly balanced and delicious! I decided on the vegan super food bowl -- it was splendid the vegan feta is so good and the dressing was not overly sweet. Def add a protein if you're not vegan. I went with friends for our annual get together and we decided to meet up in Lafayette. One of my friends was very familiar with Lafayette and suggested a few restaurants. We chose Social Bird. I had the Wagyu Burger, my friend also had a Wagyu Burger and my other friend had the Hangar Steak Rustic Bowl. I ordered my burger medium well and it came out medium which is usually the way I like my burger so I got lucky. It came on a nice soft toasted bun that only broke apart a little. The burger also came with crisp lettuce, tomato, pickle and a slice of red onion to make a very good burger. The fries were thin cut which I prefer and were fried nicely. My friend who ordered the Hanger Steak Rustic Bowl gave it 5 stars. She said the meat was flavorful, tender and just right. It came with a mustard dressing on the side with a great salad and vegetables. My other friend who had been to the restaurant before noted the fries were good at the restaurant and ordered a Wagyu Burger. She gave the burger and fries a solid 4 stars. My friends ordered the Lemon Tart which I tried a few bites and thought it was light, nice lemon flavor, the crème was fluffy and the tart base was light and flavorful too. I forgot to take a picture but excellent presentation. I plan to come back and try some of the other dishes that I want to try. If you are looking for a nice meal and good service you can't miss here. The staff is attentive, they keep your water glass full and check in periodically to check that all is well. Great, unique cocktail list. I tried the Fresh Start- fun and bright. The man sitting next to me at the bar adamantly recommended the fried chicken sliders, and he wasn't kidding when he said it "just melts". The combination of biscuit and moist fried chicken falls apart perfectly in your mouth. I want to try so much more on the menu, but the fried chicken is sooo good! I'm glad I substituted the chips for French fries-- they're some of the best tasting fries I've ever had. I remember reading up on Social Bird since the owners of Esin and Revel opened a new location in Lafayette. We decided to visit since we were heading back from San Francisco and haven't had lunch. My daughter booked a reservation online while on the road. We arrived a little early, but since it wasn't crowded, we were able to get a seat. We decided to sit at the bar, it's an opportunity to watch the monitors with futbol and football playing. It's also a great people watching spot. We started with Irish coffees since it was very cold outside and they hit the spot! For starters, we split the truffle fries, good amount of crispy and I like mine with the small cut. I had to move the plate away for fear of eating it all. We all had different dishes: Vegan Bowl, Bowl with Mary's Chicken, and the chicken sliders. We were all pretty quiet while eating, so that's a good sign. I liked mine since it was nice to eat something other than all the crap we ate over the holidays. To finish, we split a Butterscotch pudding with lattes. The pudding was simple, yet flavorful. It was definitely a comfort food dessert, but paired with the coffee was complimentary. WOW! Sooooo YUMMY! I stumbled upon this restaurant while walking the Ave. My husband and I couldn't agree on where to go for lunch on our day date and resorted walking the strip. As we walked by the restaurant I noticed a bunch of people dining in which caught my eye because clearly the food must be good to have that many people on a Wednesday afternoon. We entered and were welcomed by the hostess and seated quickly. The restaurant is clean, organized and seems to run smooth. The staff is dressed in a comfortable clean attire, they all seemed happy and relaxed working together. I always seem to analyze the staff's chemistry and they all seemingly enjoy working together. We had a wonderful waitress, I regretfully didn't ask her name, she was professional and gave us a little history on the restaurant, the owners the food and the menu. She was soooo patient with me because I was unsure what my tastebuds wanted. My wireless phone service was poor and wasn't getting the best service to see all of the yelp reviews. I ordered the most delicious, carefully crafted salmon tartar! Topping my lists of the best salmon tartar! My husband ordered the chicken biscuit with truffle fries WOW! The best value here is the wagu burger for about 18 bucks, there are a handful of other items on the dinner menu but they are limited for my taste. But my daughter enjoyed the fried chicken and my wife's always happy with her plate. We eat here a few times a year and I always enjoy wine and cheese tray. The fryes are the thin stringy type which I don't like. But they offer several great salads to make up for this. It had a lot of avocado, sometimes less is more. Also had crispy onion strings, sprouts & pickled relish, had an overall great flavor, bread was soft, not toasted. The wild prawns and grits with a mushroom Ragu was very good. Portion size on the polenta was a tad small, but it came with 6 large shrimp that was perfectly cooked. Thankfully - due to the restaurant across the street butchering our reservations for our wedding anniversary dinner - we ended up walking over to Social Bird who happily welcomed us with open arms (wings?) and fit us in - even when they were packed with diners on a Sunday evening. I love this place. It is such a great addition to the Lamorinda area. It's so good I went here four times over the course of 2 months! Because of this, I got to sample a number of dishes: my favorites are the Crispy Cauliflower, Salmon tartar, grilled octopus, shrimp risotto, and short ribs. I'm a very big Moscow Mule fan and seeing that it's their signature drink I had to try their versions. I've tried their original, Mexican, and Kentucky Mules. My partner and I have been here for dinner 3 times, and every dish we've ordered has been consistently delicious. On our most recent trip we got the steak frites and pork chop entrees - both were amazing. The meat was so flavorful and juicy, and the truffle fries were perfection. Previously we also got the roasted half chicken and the slow braised short rib and those were incredibly tasty as well. If it's your first time there, I recommend the short rib. I was also SO excited to see a dairy free coconut milk panna cotta on the dessert menu during my last visit on 5/30! I'm lactose intolerant and was so happy to see a dairy free panna cotta - something I've never seen offered before. And it was DELICIOUS. I would have happily ordered 2 more. read more

We came here for our first INDOOR DINING experience in over a year! I'm glad it was at Social Bird, a contemporary (or "New") American restaurant that has a solid selection of craft beers, hearty mains and plenty of sharing options. SocialBird is set in the Lafayette Mercantile building, which houses a collection of various businesses including a spa, and Philz coffee, and has plenty of parking in a public lot situated behind the building. They have a spacious outdoor patio to the side of the restaurant (and in-front too, if I remember correctly), and a mixture of booths, bar seating, and bar height tables. The two of us came in without a reservation at 7pm on a Friday evening and were able to get bar seating, which was a little noisy but not too over the top - which was a relief because I do badly in conversation with ambient noise! I drank a raspberry and lemon (I think) sour beer, which was perfectly tart. The melted sheep's cheese we ordered on recommendation of the server was a little intense for my liking but, hey, it was a new experience. The lamb sliders I had were each individually as big as a burger outside of the US, and we had enough fries on that plate for the two of us! My wife's risotto and salmon was perfectly cooked, We ended up taking a box full of carbs (AKA leftover risotto and fries) home with us! A decent experience all around, we'll be back! FRIED CHICKEN BISCUIT SANDWICH - SIMPLE ITEM THAT CAN BE COOKED POORLY With the exception of breakfast sandwiches, fried chicken biscuit sandwiches have the most misses for me. Either the biscuit is too hard or the chicken is dry. I will admit most of the chicken biscuit sandwiches I have ordered were from fast food chains. I came to Social Bird for brunch about a couple of Sundays ago. My friend who has eaten here recommended the buttermilk chicken breast biscuit sliders. Besides the sliders we ordered the seared rare ahi tostadas as appetizers. I like tostadas but sometimes they can be too wet for me. The tostadas at Social Bird weren't too wet as the roughly chopped vegetables added texture. Eating the tostadas was similar to having a small salad. Next was the main entrée for brunch - the chicken biscuit sliders. I don't see sliders as a main dish. However I had some expectation for this dish as my friend recommended it. Instead of chips we both substituted for truffle fries. The fries weren't oily and had a slight crisp on the outside. How was the fried chicken biscuit sandwich? The soft, flaky, buttered biscuits melt in your mouth. I don't know if the chicken breasts were brined but they were moist. The worst thing in a fried chicken sandwich is if the meat is dry and stringy. My friend was correct with the recommendation of the fried chicken biscuit sliders. After eating the tostadas and chicken biscuit sliders I was full enough that I did not order dessert. If you come to Social Bird to eat I recommend the buttermilk fried chicken breast sliders.
