I've become a frequent flyer of this cute little coffee shop. It's conveniently located about half a mile from UF Health, a hospital that also houses distance campuses for UF College of Pharmacy and UF College of Nursing. As a student, I was so excited to find a coffee shop that was so close to my school. A new place to study? Yesss. With instagram-worthy hand poured lattes? Double yessss. And multiple places to plug in your electronics? YESSSS. This is what grad student dreams are made of. This coffee shop embodies the growth and character of historic downtown Jacksonville. I'm so happy to see businesses like Social Grounds thriving in the Springfield area. We definitely need it. When I came in with a group of friends, we were greeted by a gentleman (I think he is the owner) who gave us a little bit of background info about how the shop came to fruition. First of all, it's owned and operated by veterans, but not just any veterans. These veterans care about their community and are actively providing support to veterans transitioning out of homelessness. Part of your purchase goes towards helping amazing causes such as the Wounded Warrior Project, K9's for Warriors, and Homeless Service Providers. Why go to Starbucks and give your money to a large corporation when you can support a local business that gives right back to the community? I ship this place so hard. One last note, their coffee shop playlist is always on point. read more

Today I got to come to social grounds for a networking meeting for a local non profit called Vets on T.A.P. I had no idea what this place stood for until I started talking to some of the other attendees. First off French press coffee??? What? Yes! Amazing tasty carefully made French press coffee with steamed milk. I feel like I died and went to Seattle! (Home town whoot whoot) well done ! I also had their Hash stack, which essentially is a hash brown casserole with some delicious veggies and fluffy eggs. It was great alone but absolutely superb after I added some tapatio! The atmosphere was minimalistic and very clean! The place was busy and full of other veteran owned business owners and they held up to the demand of all of us! With plenty of seating! Top it off that this place supports veteran transitioning from homelessness---TAKE.MY.MONEY LOL All in all a great place to get an amazing cup of coffee and serves such an amazing cause! Quaint little coffee shop with good tasting coffee. The atmosphere is very hip which is consistent with the upcoming neighborhood. I am a coffee aficionado and I look at every detail when I walk into a new coffee shop. They have a beautiful Slayer high end espresso machine and professional grade grinders, which is certainly a good sign. The coffee was fresh and flavorful. I had a macchiato. One common mistake that is happening in all hipster shops is the preparation of some of the drinks. I may be nitpicking here but in a macchiato the espresso is poured over the milk and no coffee art is needed, but nevertheless the drink was flavorful and well presented. As I said this is a common thing with US trained baristas, but hey we are in Jacksonville Florida after all, not Milan or Rome. I will certainly be back to social grounds. I stopped into Social Grounds today to kill some time and enjoy a latte and I'm happy that I did. The staff was friendly and the shop itself was very clean and organized. It wasn't very busy at all. I sat at a table near the front with a friend and to start we both enjoyed a yummy 12oz latte. The flavor of mine was on point, which says a lot because I order a very particular espresso beverage. My single complaint was that the milk should have been steamed just a little bit hotter. After sitting for a while my friend and I decided to share a French press, which was the highlight of my visit. The dark brew they used was awesome and it was very flavorful. It was served on a cute little tray with two mugs and some cream on the side for my friend who doesn't know how to correctly drink coffee (haha). I want to come back earlier in the day so I can try their assortment of baked goods. There weren't many to choose from because they sell out quickly and I showed up after lunchtime. Tucked away off of Main Street in the Springfield area of Jacksonville, you'll find THE coffee shop where you needed to focus on that work you've been putting off. The ambience is like something you would get out of a city/urban coffee shop but without the hustle and the rush to work. I have been wanting to try Social Grounds for a few months now and I FINALLY did. It's in the historic Springfield neighborhood of Jax which is kinda far from me just to grab good joe but it was worth the hike. When I arrived, Springfield was POPPIN so parking was scarce. I had to circle the block a couple of times to find a parking spot. After going into Social Grounds, I immediately loved the urban yet rustic atheistic. I was greeted by a friendly gentleman behind the counter who made me an awesome almond milk latte. The coffee was smooth and delicious. I always get the same thing when I try coffees at different places to eliminate variables when comparing. Brew has been my favorite coffee in town but Social Grounds may soon take that over that spot. Unfortunately I could not stay at Social Grounds to savor my latte also I had to take it to go. I love their logo as well (I mean, it matches the tattoo on my wrist lol). I look forward to going back when I have more time! read more

My first visit and it was a nice break from Starbucks. To me the coffee was comparable and the service was awesome. I really appreciate the additional parking behind the building. Inside is clean and welcoming with enough plugs and free Wi-Fi to enjoy some down time if necessary. I visited on a Sunday and their hours are from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. regular hours are from 7 until 5:30 Monday through Saturday as an added treat, pastries are delivered daily from the Springfield Blu Chocolat Bakery. I loved my first visit to the brand new social grounds! It's definitely a coffee shop to hunker down with old friends in and talk away the day. Which is what I did! While I was there I had the affogato (my first time) and it was AMAZING. I had to pause the conversation I was in and rave about it. I knew it would probably be good (ice cream and espresso? Yes pls) but was not prepared for this perfect combo. The espresso was so smooth and the vanilla cut through any acidity. I also got a little snacky later and had a croissant (from Motion Sweets) which was deliciouuuuuus. Perfect amount of flakiness. Just wished it was bigger! read more

Their coffee and pound cake were tasty. Their chai is fairly standard (nobody does chai like Three Layers). I liked the simple decor. They can use a bit of artwork on their walls to dampen the sound though (went during soft grand opening so there were a bunch of people and it got pretty loud). Went on a Sunday for change of pace brunch. Was packed. Parking was adventure but got great spot. Ordered and found spot at bar that was just vacated by other customers. Lady behind counter just moved their mugs to side wiped counter and left mugs off to the side. Asked another lady to remove those mugs but was weird you wipe a area but leva dirty dishes. Food came it was good and so was the coffee. As we ate it seemed to be a shift change and then I realized why the young lady had half way cleaned the area was she was ready to go. Overall food was good hot and fresh. Service was the just good and the young lady making the coffe close the where we sat gave us good service despite being busy making drinks. Would be a 3 and 1/2 stars I just don't know how to do it. read more

I tend to just have my coffee at home, but my sons like their fancy coffee and I noticed they were stopping by Social Grounds on the way to visit me. They told me it is a gem in my own neighborhood, so finally I walked over there with them recently. I had my dog with me so thought I would wait outside. But right inside was a doggie bowl of water so clearly the pups are welcome. I walked in and, wow have I been missing out on this cute little coffee shop just a few blocks away. Sweet people and amazing coffee. I got the peppermint mocha and I am hooked. Even the hot chocolate is a designer drink without the designer price. So many great blends and all the coffees are good hot or cold. The pastry case looks tempting so going to indulge this weekend. I have put this coffee shop on my morning walking route. I even bought some great coffee beans for both my son's stocking stuffers (cause you are never too old to get great gifts) I know they will love being able to make good coffee at home but now when they stop on the way to my house for a visit, they have to pick up a coffee for me too. read more

And he's very engaged in service work within Jacksonville. I make it a point to have coffee here just because of their compassionate practices. But it is almost always uncrowded and quiet, and open early for people that prefer meetings at 6:30am (oh, wait, you don't wake up at 5am? You don't know what you are missing! What a great new coffee shop in Town, and it's in Springfield. I'll be honest, I haven't been to Springfield in forever but I forget how lovely the neighborhood is. When I have time I for sure need to visit more often, especially if I can have coffee in hand. Social Grounds has a greater vision in mind than just coffee, it's just coffee is the way they're getting their vision done. It's about giving back and being a part of the community. Their mission statement is very large on their wall when you walk in through their front doors. The place is beautiful and I love the history behind details. The wooden bar was actually a Springfield houses flooring. There's the beautiful exposed brick and a ton of natural light. They roast their own coffee and have a wide selection of specialty drinks. They have food to offer but it's baked by another local Jacksonville shop. The service is sweet and kind! We love when people serve with a genuine attitude! There is parking on the street and there's a small lot out back with an entrance. Why I knock a star? They don't make their syrups in house. It's so easy and they make drinks taste so much better! The design of the place is very pretty but you can tell that there's someone there that really likes that kitschy stuff. Just head to the bathroom to see what I mean. Great place to bring friends or get some work done. This area is starting to have some life to it because of Social Grounds. :) They also offer military discounts!
