We arrived around 2pm for brunch. looked like the busy time was over because it was not busy. 2 people left the bar and we sat down rt in front were the ice was for the 2 bartenders would get ice to make drinks. We sat down when 2 people finished eating. Neither of the 2 bartenders wiped the counter or removed the dirty plates. So I made reservations to sit outside, but it was blazing that day so I just grabbed a seat at the bar. My bartender was very friendly and social. I was there on a Saturday afternoon, so I wanted to order some brunch. Usually, I would go for bottomless mimosas of course, but I was taking medication that advised against it. So I asked the bartender if she had any mocktails she could whip up. She made me a lovely looking drink that included orange juice and club soda. It was very yummy and I appreciated it. I already knew I wanted to order the Chicken and French Toast before I came here, but the Chicken and Dumplings starter item stood out to me, so I had that come out first. I'll be honest, my bartender was so incredibly nice and so excited about me ordering it that I lied when I said it was just ok. The smell of the gravy alone was off-putting. I hoped that it was just one of those dishes that taste better than it smells, but the taste wasn't much better. Something about it was not agreeing with me. But that's just my opinion, it's probably a fan favorite. The Chicken and French Toast was much better. I tell restaurants all the time that if they're gunna serve this dish with syrup already on the food, but the syrup first and place the food on top so that it doesn't disintegrate too fast. I'm glad this restaurant understood the assignment, it left my food looking fresh longer. The chicken was very juicy and flavorful, and perfectly crisp. The French toast was ok, a little too buttery for my taste but if you like butter you'll love this. We've been here before and it's always good. This was our first time having brunch here, it's a great place to eat on a Sunday and enjoy the farmer's market next door for a nice afternoon. First, I would recommend a reservation, we just walked in and we're told without a reservation the only option is at the bar top, which isn't a bad thing at all. The bartenders are great, friendly, and helpful. We had a seat at the bar and started with drinks, a strawberry fields, vodka, strawberry, vanilla and basil. Wonderful, refreshing for a beautiful day. I had the early bird old fashioned with bacon garnish. All I can say is it tastes like breakfast. We started with the bbq pork belly and biscuits, holy moly, amazing. Definitely getting that again. My wife got the avocado toast with cured salmon, amazing presentation and taste. Nice and handheld with tons of flavor. Definitely recommend. I was pretty basic and had the BEG meal, applewood smoked bacon eggs and grits. I came here for brunch on a Saturday with 2 of my girl friends and the food was AMAZING! Soco is a made from scratch kitchen and you can really taste it in the quality and flavor of the food!! I had the Chicken & French toast and I absolutely loved it. It came with a homemade granola and the syrup that was drizzled over everything was served warm and was very unique and yummy. We enjoyed bottomless mimosas as well! (Unfortunately their online menu is outdated and their prices of just about everything have increased... So we were a little upset to find out that their bottomless mimosas were actually $18 and not $15 as we were led to believe). But we found it to still be worth it because the servers are constantly coming by and refilling your glasses. You can choose from a variety of juices: orange, pineapple, or cranberry. I will say though, I wasn't I love with the inside of the restaurant. It gave me "hotel lobby restaurant" vibes. The colors, decor, and ambiance just didn't match the uniqueness of the food in my opinion. They do have outdoor porch seating and I wish we could've sat there when we came but it was unfortunately raining when we came and although there are parts that are covered, we didn't want to risk getting wet. It's always a good time at Soco for brunch! 4 of us went recently and had a blast! We arrived around 11-11:30am and initially had a reservation for us to sit outside. It ended up being a cold and rainy day, so we had asked to be seated inside. The hostess (not the most welcoming or friendly, but hey, maybe she was just having a bad morning, or perhaps we were one of many asking for an accommodation due to the weather) said they had no seats available, and our only option was to sit at the bar. They had high top seating near the bar, but she said that was for reservations only and again, they couldn't move our reservation request to sit inside. This was a little disappointing because the restaurant didn't start to get busy until about 45 minutes later, so I guess I wish they had a better plan in place for being a little flexible on reservations. Regardless, the 4 of us are pretty flexible and took the 4 bar seats available - best.decision.ever. We had such a fun time with our bartenders and really enjoyed the food and drinks. Super happy this place does bottomless mimosas, which we never had to ask for juices and the champagne never ended. We started with several appetizers: Cured Salmon and biscuit platter, deviled eggs, and fried green tomatoes, Mac and cheese - all amazing! For entrees, the guys ordered steak and eggs, and my friend and I shared the shrimp and grits (we were pretty full from the apps and champagne). Everything was SO GOOD. Seasoned perfectly, warm, and just tasty! I literally could've ate the mac and cheese as an entree but was forced to share. We were venturing at the farmers market on Sunday and decided to get brunch. I have always enjoyed going to Soco but it's been awhile. It was still early so we walked over and got in at 10:35, the hostess asked if we had a reservation. We said no, she stated can't accommodate since we don't have a reservation. The restaurant was at 30% capacity and it was really slow to get anyone to acknowledge us. We were completely ignored at many points of our evening. First was the front desk receptionist who must've been having a bad day. She ignored us as we stood in the doorway to be placed on a list. After a few minutes we used hand sanitizer that's provided and had our temperature checked. Since we didn't have a reservation, i was ok with waiting as they were enforcing social distancing protocols. After 7 minutes of cluelessly standing at the front desk, she tells us that there's only room at the high tops in the bar area. I quickly agreed letting her know that it was actually perfect for us. Once at the high top, we sat there for 15 minutes with no acknowledgement. Other patrons looked at us as if we were strange. After 18 minutes, the bar tender tells us that she doesn't serve the high tops and that we won't have a server since that table is not assigned. I walked back to the lobby area where the young girl is too confused to find us a table. After 5 minutes more of uncertainty, I thanked her and left. The manager was aimlessly walking around greeting patrons, he saw the confusion at the front desk but made no effort to find a solution. Came for some brunch, this place is usually busy so make sure you have a reservation! The host was rude- I understand it was busy but she did not acknowledge anybody, everybody had to approach her to give details of their party... We were seated about 15 mins after... the service here is SLOW but our waiter was doing as best as she could. As for the food the biscuits and gravy was very salty in my opinion, the pork belly was always perfect but that's the only part I ate from the dish. PLEASE MAKE RESERVATION FOR THE WEEKENDS. I completely forgot to make reservation and tried to get one last minute on a Saturday morning which the next opening was at 2 pm. I did walk in for first come first serve at the bar, which still couldn't get seating for about a hour or so. Thankful there was a pop up event at the local park which I was able to tour prior to going. First of all, I got the bottomless mimosa for only $15 with entree. I got the shrimp and grits which I would say is a smaller portion but I am so happy with it because the plate is generous with the SHRIMP! Drool. I would most definitely come again. In a different city with "new-norm" restrictions doesn't really allow for you to take chances on new places by just walking in and grabbing a table. Thankfully, with just a few hours to spare I was able to make an outdoor reservation with Alyssa for seven to this wonderful gem in Thornton Park. First off, what a great area! Away from the touristy side, Soco is located on the corner of Central and Eola. We were seated immediately with our lovely waitress, Morgan. Out come the menus and out come the eyes trying to figure out what to eat. The group decided, let's just get them all! Boiled Peanut Hummus - not "peanutty", but soft, whipped hummus paired with light bread. A great light option. Since being plant-based (for now, maybe), I didn't have the opportunity of tasting everything else but what I can say is that all these plates were completely cleaned! Onto main course - my dish was the "chicken-fried cauliflower steak". I used to be one of those that judged a book by it's cover so I would have read this and said pass. Thankfully, I grew up ! This dish is probably the best plant-based dish I've ever tasted. The tomato gravy was rich yet didn't overpower the cauliflower or the mash that was tucked in underneath. I really loved coming here to celebrate a going away brunch with my friends. The food was top notch and not overpriced at all. I am a celiac so always have to order something gluten free. I initially ordered a salad and unfortunately it was brought out with fried onions (even though I had already told the waitress that I had a gluten allergy), but they took the dish and corrected their mistake. Both were delicious but the pork belly biscuits were tiny for $6 in our opinion, probably would skip next time. Upon checking the reviews on yelp; Soco ended up being our choice since they are highly recommended. Our server was Michael who had a smile on his face and happy go lucky attitude. They didn't seem full but I did hear the host say they were fully booked inside. So I would recommend making a reservation! Started off with the pork belly biscuits which was bursting with flavor we nearly licked the plate clean. The biscuits were fresh, hot and flaky. I wish I could give this a 6/5 stars. So good. So. Good. Atmosphere: trendy, cozy, casual, bright. There are two main indoor seating areas and one large outdoor area with overhead cover. The staff are extra kind and very attentive. Parking: this is one of those tricky Thornton park locations where I just recommend doing the parking garage, it's not very expensive. If you can find street that is awesome but I am impatient! Food (brunch): wow. Just wow. The options had all of us tempted to order family style one of everything because the menu items just seemed so delicious. I ordered (don't judge): everything biscuit salmon small plate, bacon Mac and cheese, and the meatloaf skillet hash. The salmon biscuit was one of the best things I've ever eaten. The arugula caper salad was fresh and tangy, the chive cream cheese was the perfect amount of sharp and creamy...I'm honestly thinking about it right now and I want to go back this weekend to get it.... The Mac and cheese was delicious but I certainly couldn't finish it after the biscuit. The hash was also delicious, comes with chunks of potato and crispy meatloaf bites. I did try the lobster dumpling and that was absolutely fantastic. I'm pretty certain that the menu changes but I am sure that anything any season here is good. We also did the endless mimosas and they definitely come by often to where the deal is worth it. Price: very VERY reasonable. I was really excited to eat here after going through their Instagram and Yelp reviews but I gotta say...I was disappointed in the food. I'll preface this by saying the staff was a delight, and my cocktail was absolutely delicious, but that's the end of my wholehearted compliments. I ordered a lot, to get a true taste of the menu, and while each plate was aesthetically GORGEOUS, the food was consistently bland but somehow still salty and frankly not worth the price point. I appreciated the originality in the menu and cuisine (southern/asian fusion?¿) but it fell flat for me. What I got: *socco style chicken and dumplings--this was one of their famous menu options and while it wasn't terrible it was still...meh. Giving Asian style dumpling with boiled Turkey, edamame, and gravy on top. So salty. The Turkey was so overcooked I took it off. 6/10 *Beet and Avocado Salad--while aesthetically beautiful (I mean a STUNNER on camera) it was the worst thing I ordered. Tiny cubed beets and an avocado purée with something that tasted like...oats? I dunno what was happening here. It was not seasoned at all, and overall...pretty gross. 1/10 *Southern Style Tacos--best thing I ordered. I thought making a biscuit into a taco shell was very creative and I enjoyed this dish. Was also impressed to hear they churn their own butter for these biscuits. Overall, my favorite part of this restaurant was the friendly staff! I visited on New Years Eve and from the moment we walked in everyone was very welcoming. I was very excited reading the menu because there were so many options! I ordered a Moscow Mule which was my favorite item that I ordered! It was a perfect balance of vodka vs ginger beer & lime. Super tasty. We then started our meal off with the biscuits and they were delicious. They come with raspberry, orange, and apple jam + butter which were all very yummy (the apple jam was by far my favorite!). I ordered the fried chicken (1/2 a chicken) as my entrée and I was pleasantly surprised that it was an Asian fusion plate! I was a bit underwhelmed as it was just served with coleslaw. Went here for brunch, and It was 110 degrees outside so I won't fault them for me sweating to death. We had a reservation and they seated us immediately, the entire staff was very friendly. From host to all the servers. Our server greeted us almost instantaneously from us being seated and inquired on what we wanted to drink. If you like mimosas this is the spot for you, they bring the champagne in a glass and the orange juice on the side for you add as much or as little OJ to you champagne. They also offer a variety of juices, cranberry, pineapple and grapefruit. In case Orange juice isn't your thing, they definitely have you covered. The food was really good and filling, the pork belly biscuits were amazing. Something I have to order again for myself, lol sharing something so small wasn't ok when it tasted so good. Dinner at SoCo was great. Apparently it's a popular brunch spot but we decided to try out dinner for my girlfriends birthday. Our table ordered a total of four starters: fried green tomatoes, the "other KFC", crispy oysters, and the SoCo style Chicken and Dumplings. all of them were great but I'll give a slight heads up: small plate means small. I believe there was only three oysters to an order although the dumplings were a little more generous. All of our entrees were great. Most of us went with the grilled meatloaf I uploaded but someone ordered the shrimp and grits which they raves about. The chef also was able to accommodate a member of our party who was vegetarian by making a simple substitution to a menu item. Thyey also have a great happy hour here! Last but not least, our server Grant was awesome. Hope he gets some recognition from this review because he was a delight. Regarding COVID protocol: it's everything it should be.
