Sofi'z is easily one of the best restaurants in Chico. We eat here regularly and are always thrilled with the food and the service. Sofi truly loves to connect with her guests and provide the best experience. We love getting the paratha and different sauces to go with our meals, the meat is always SO fresh and tender, and everything is so flavorful. We love trying a new desert every time we visit too. Food was so delicious and made fresh! The service was wonderful, she was super helpful in explaining menu items and giving suggestions.

This was my first time at Sofi'z Kitchen and Bar, where I was welcomed and seated immediately by the owner. When the gentleman who brought me my glass of water, was next to my table, I asked him what his favorite thing on the menu was, he immediately responded "Butter Chicken" so that is what I ordered when the owner came to take my order. She also suggested naan bread and asked if I would like tea as well, which I did order. I figured the first time I'm in a new restaurant with food that I'm not familiar with, I would rely on the restaurant for their suggestions. The tea, served in what I called "English" style with milk/cream came almost immediately. The freshly baked naan bread was fantastic to dip in my butter chicken, which was just as exquisite. The restaurant would be a nice place to take your date. My only complaint, I voiced at the register as I was leaving, "there was one big problem, it was all so good, I ate it all and now, I will have to go jogging." Highly recommended! read more

I stopped by here for lunch today since I heard great things about it. I was not at all disappointed. The ambiance was great when I initially came in. The air was perfumed with incense and the restaurant's decor was authentic and charming, all things that make the experience inviting and relaxing. The owner was extremely personable as well and made me feel welcome. As for the food, it was the best Pakistani food I've had. The tea and naan were fantastic. The rice was delicious. I also got to try the kebab curry and lamb curry and they were incredible. They had the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and spicy. This place was great the cook is a 1 person cook and she also takes people orders. When I went, I got the veggie samosas with mint sauce, mango milkshake, butter chicken with plain rice (yellow rice), with regular Naan and Garlic naan gulab jamun But the mint sauce was just too minty, and the garlic Naan didn't really taste the garlic, and the sauce on the butter chicken tastes weird. First off, I arrived earliest to meet 3 friends for our lunch bunch - at Sofi'z, so we got to sit in the plush pink seats in the window. The owner/chef gave us a warm welcome and was perfection herself. I ordered a Chai which was delish on its own but it comes with a melt-away cookie - yum. Then, unknowingly, we all ordered the same thing - Vegetable Biryani. So generous portions, we could have split between 2 people, but we loved taking home another meal. The best one I've had yet of one of my fave dishes. And I shared Gulab Jamun dessert with another friend. I've had these cold - but here they are hot and also the best ever. One friend took appetizers, another entree, and dessert home to her hub, so we expect to hear his take, too. So, obviously, I highly recommend Sofi'z. read more

The butter chicken is AWFUL compared to Taj and Priya and you get WAY less for the price. 7 dollars just for rice because the dish doesn't come with it and the cucumber salad is described as cucumber, tomato, onion, cilantro, lemon tossed in a a tangy sauce but it's just dry cucumber and tomato with some pepper sprinkled on top. But everything we tried was exceptional. Sofie was our waitress and she is hilarious. We had the fish Pakora, samosas, goat curry, and raita and took our desserts home. But wait! There's more! Loved the ambiance of the restaurant. Ordered a mystery box, so didn't get a choice of what I got. However, I really enjoyed the food that was given to me. One plate had a huge portion of basmati rice, a serving of goat curry, a serving of mixed vegetables and an order of the fish pakora. My husband and I tried Sofi'z for the first time last night and it was incredible! The restaurant has a cool zen vibe and the staff is incredibly welcoming. Most importantly, the food is amazing! We purposefully over ordered so we could try a variety of dishes and would have leftovers. The samosas were the best we've ever had...light and flaky with a velvety potato filling. Next we had goat biryani, butter chicken, basmati rice and garlic naan. It was all delicious, but my favorite was the butter chicken! It had the perfect amount of spice and was creamy without being too heavy on the tomato flavor like so many other versions. I could drink that sauce through a straw!! When one dish came back a bit bland, she reworked it right away to make it much more interesting. And that would be my one comment to diners, is that because the food can be tailored to your spice level, you're advised to communicate that ahead of time. I am a little late leaving a review. My daughter-in-law is from Houston and is of Indian descent. Both of her parents are from India and her mother is a fantastic cook. She also travels a lot and considers herself a critic of Indian cuisine. When I suggested we get take-out from Sofi'z she scoffed. She said that she was sure that it would be "good for Chico" but that it would not compare to Houston or where she visits in India. She was amazed - we ordered a bit of everything so we had a lot of left-overs. She went back to the fridge for breakfast, lunch and dinner the next day. My parents are moving to town in a month. They have been to a number of Chico restaurants over the years but not here. This will be the first place I take them out to when they settle in. read more

Love this place! I came with my daughter from out of town and enjoyed very friendly service, excellent food in an uplifting atmosphere. We had samosas for apps followed by chicken biriyani (so flavorful and a good amount of spicy zing) and warm flat bread with a chickory root infusion drink and donut balls for dessert.
