After attending a YEE catered by Sofra Grill, I had to come back because everything was so delicious. We picked up dinner to go since they were packed on a Friday night. Even though they were busy handing tables, our order still came out fairly quick. We picked up a salmon skewer plate, chicken skewer plate and a mixed grill for my daughter and boyfriend to share, along with some hummus and baklava. Wow, we probably could have just ordered the mixed grill for all of us because it was so much food! I did like the salmon and chicken shawarma the most, and the rice is so delicious. Their hummus has a light texture with I enjoyed. Even their salad and flatbread was perfect. I'm looking forward to returning and hopefully eating at their place so I can try their lamb shank next. Such a good spot to get your Mediterranean food fix! I'm so glad I decided to give it a try after searching for a lunch spot in the area. I came on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30pm and there was a wait (probably about 15 minutes). There's a handful of tables inside and two outside. The only downside is that the tables are so large (made for group of 4-6) and won't split, so a party of two would be taking up a table when two different parties can be using it. Tried the steak shawarma and Adana kebab (spicy minced lamb & beef). Both were seasoned well and flavorful, paired well with the fluffy rice. The pita was warm and fluffy -- you gotta dip it in the white sauce. Salad was a nice balance to have on the side, the pineapples and strawberries added a nice touch to it. Both plates were devoured! I definitely want to try the mixed grill during my next visit. It's a large plate with a variety of the proteins (beef, steak, chicken, etc.) on a bed of rice. I saw a few tables sharing it! Small, clean 'hole in the wall' with easy street parking, nice staff and good service. I asked to be seated away from the door to be warmer, but it turned out it was cool by the kitchen. We noticed a table with the SOFRA bread. It arrived warm with tum. It was really tasty. We both ordered the Adana kabab which is a lamb beef combo. They say it's spicy. It's well seasoned and moist, but not spicy as in packed with spicy peppers. They do give you a nice spicy red sauce to put on your food. The rice was fragrant and it came with a little iceberg and tomato side salad. While the salad was fresh, the dressing had me wondering if I wasn't a bottled Italian dressing. My friend had the kanufa which is quite large for one, crispy, chewy, sweet...it was great. The table next to us had ordered the mezza platter which looked amazing. That alone could have been enough lunch, but they had ordered a wrap and the lahmacum so they ended up taking a lot home for their dinner. If you're waiting to pick up or drop off at SFO, this is THE spot. We came while waiting to pick up a friend whose flight was unexpectedly landing early. The service and staff here were incredibly friendly and helped us dine and pay quickly so that we could make our pickup. While the location looks unassuming, don't be fooled. The food is AMAZING. There was such a "home-y" vibe through the menu. Simple and not overcomplicated, the dishes were perfect to hit the spot for a Mediterranean fill. We particularly loved the baked feta dish as a shared group appetizer. The interior is not very large but most orders that I saw were for to-go on a Saturday afternoon. I think this spot is best suited for a group of 3-4. Larger groups might need to wait. Prices were incredibly fair and we left feeling so full. This was a return visit to SOFRA GRILL after my introduction to them from a prior Yelp Elite event. Parking is a challenge in that neighborhood but I parked in the Smart & Final lot across the street. Have no idea if that's okay but that's what I did. Sofra grill, also known as Sofra Bakery & Cafe, where they proudly offer their signature Sofra bread to accompany their entrees, baked with sesame and Nigella seeds. Service is always warm and welcoming. Ambiance light, bright and cozy. I had to invite my friend along to try Sofra Grill's famous LAMB SHANK, tender braised lamb shank over rice, but uniquely wrapped in homemade dough baked. Usually brought to the table whole, it's a nice little show when they cut open the bread and the steam and aroma of the lamb shanks bursts forth and we go "ooooooooh!" Paired with the MEZZA PLATTER of falafel, hummus, muhammara, baba ganoush, dolma & labneh. And their housemade MIXED PICKLES. We were happy, and promptly demolished every morsel set before us! Sofra Grill is also equally pleased with their tender BEEF SHANK but that will have to wait until next time! P.S. Tried this place yesterday while waiting for someone to land at SFO. Not a lot of seating! And no small tables. I was sat alone at a table for 4, and there was another solo diner sitting at a table for 6. I almost thought the might ask us to sit together. People were waiting outside to be seated. Parking also isnt great, I parked across the street by the goodwill/smart and final. My guess is that's not allowed... but I didn't intend on being there long. I ordered a chicken shawarma wrap, only $11. Pretty reasonable price for the amount of food. I also ordered a mixed grill to go to split with family. It says for 2 people but I comfortably fed 4 adults with it, with a little rice to spare for some other protein we have cooked. White sauce was nice and garlicky, my fave, and the red sauce had a nice kick to it. The food was decent, I can't fairly judge the mixed grill entree since I didn't eat it fresh, but I didn't see any problems with it. I noticed a few people around me were ordering something like a pizza. Maybe a beef kofte flatbread? Not sure. I want to order it next time. They also have steak fries on the menu. The toom is addictive and elevates the wrap to another level. The steak shawarma is good too, but I find that it is a little chewy sometimes, so I opt for the chicken. First time I ordered the combo mezza platter with falafel, hummus, muhammara, baba ganoush, dolma & labneh. I don't like dolma in general but the rest of it was yummy. I've tried the Beyti: beef & lamb wrapped in flatbread topped w/ tomato sauce/yogurt. This was also really good! Baklava: it's good but super sweet. Sofra Grill is a hole in the wall restaurant with very limited seats. I was craving hummus and decided to give this place a try and I am so glad I did. Staff here are very nice and accommodating. Hummus (5/5)- the creaminess is unmatched and went perfectly with each bite of rice. I love how smooth the consistency is here. Mixed grill meat platter (2/5)- most of the meats were tough and felt grainy. I really enjoyed one of the meats but everything else was unfortunately not to my palette. Beyti (5/5)- the meat here is succulent unlike the meat platter and I recommend asking for their garlic white sauce because it pairs so well with this dish. We has a work reunion here on a Sunday evening. There was a small wait but not too long. We were served very quickly and our orders were taken with great attention. We got the mezza platter to share and it was soooo good. This was such a nice dish to sample all the different flavors. I loved that each component had it's own little compartment on the tray. We started with the mezza platter, which was perfect for sharing. I enjoyed all the dips, but my faves were the baba ganoush and the muhammara. Even my dad commented that the hummus was very good and tasted different than other places! That's saying a lot since he's usually a complainer. The pita bread must have been freshly baked as it was super soft and piping hot! We ordered a variety of dishes, including the steak shawarma plate, lamb chops, adana kebab wrap, adana kebab salad, and chicken shawarma. Not only was the food delicious, but the portions were very generous and prices were reasonable. I tried my daughter's lamb chops and they were excellent! The saffron rice is also seasoned perfectly and so tasty. It's a good thing we came when we did because the restaurant was packed and people were waiting when we left. This has easily become one of my go-to spots for dinner because of their fresh and flavorful ingredients, generous portion, and somewhat healthy-ish options. I feel like I'm getting all my daily recommended carbs, protein, veggies every time I eat here haha - My go to's are the chicken shawarma and lentil soup if its cold out. We've also tried the mixed meat plate which they list as feeds 2, but we fed 4 people perfectly and two of them have big appetites. The service here is great too, they checked in on us and filled our waters when requested. We decided to try this palace based off of reviews and people we know who have also tried it. Unfortunately this place fell short of our expectations- we were looking for traditional cuisine and were disappointed. Imsakhan was chicken and rice this is not authentic as expected. Imsakhan is a traditional Palestinian dish with onions and sumac on bread. This came on a place of rice, no spices and had a dome of bread on top. We went to this cozy neighborhood restaurant around noon on a Tuesday and got the last seat (I hear they will be expanding). The service is friendly and efficient. The noise level is pretty high when the place is full so it's difficult to hold a conversation without raising your voice. There are a couple of tables outdoor but don't have any covering so you're at the mercy of the sun's location. The food is AMAZING. Our table ordered the salmon skewers (actually a salmon filet, not skewers), falafel plate, beef skewers, and chicken skewers. They all come with a small salad, and a lot of rice. The rice is wonderful. The beef was tender and flavorful as was the chicken. The salmon was a bit dry but fine with the provide lemon and sauces. The falafels which came with hummus and babaganoush (both smashing) were a bit overdone but still good. Our neighboring table ordered the lamb shank which comes baked in a pita-like shell. They said it was very tasty. We'll order that the next time we come. For dessert, we shared the ice cream with baklava pieces on top. Unfortunately when we got there they were full, something I was happy to see as last time they were newer to the area and didn't have much business. FIrst heard about this spot through a Yelp event that I unfortunately did not attend. However, the food looked so incredible that I knew I had to try it out. I convinced a friend to join me, and we shared a pot of tea along with the lamb shank. The menu noted that the lamb shank was available in limited quantities, which they did run out on the day we visited. Luckily, they were able to substitute the lamb with beef instead. The food came out quick! So I was amazed that the dish was so well prepared, with tender beef, flavorful rice and a thin, crispy dough baked on top that paired perfectly with toum (garlic sauce). The side salad was a delightful surprise, a fresh spring mix filled with white beans, carrots, cabbage, and a zesty lemon olive oil dressing. Overall, the food was cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully. They offered a Turkish Delight on the house which was a nice sweet ending. Didn't realize Sofra Grill has been here more than two years -- and I regret the lost time because it's really, really good! And, they're very nice people. And, they make one of the best Mediterranean wraps anywhere. At first I wanted a chicken wrap and they actually have two chicken options -- however -- they are made from dark meat chicken and I only eat chicken breast. Well (and I hope they don't mind me saying this but) I asked if there was any way they could make a wrap out of their chicken kebabs, which are chicken breast -- they checked with either the owner or the chef and said YES. However, that would be a special off-the-menu item so instead of the $11.95 they charge for either of their regular chicken wraps, they charged me the same price as their salmon wrap, $14.95 -- no problem! (And I also asked for no onions.) Folks, this was one of the freshest, creamiest, most delicious chicken wraps I've ever had. I could barely put it down, it was so good and I just wanted to keep eating it. They also have drinks behind the counter like lemonade with another fruit juice added in, or apricot juice, and more, which are very good. And I'd like to try some of their other proteins like kofte (ground beef kebab), and the aforementioned salmon. One thing I didn't love is their dessert called Kunafa, as, although, it's sweet, it is also made with cheese and, other than maybe cheesecake, not a fan of desserts with cheese, especially melted cheese -- but if that's your thing, the preparation is beautiful. There are more than a few Mediterranean restaurants on the Upper Peninsula that just do the usual standard fare, with no creativity put into the food. But Sofra puts heart, soul and love into theirs and, for that, I will keep coming back. read more
