The food was ok. The mushroom cabbage spring rolls were crunchy/somewhat overcooked. The crispy shrimp tastes better warm. The taro tea was perfect. I'd come back to try other options. I called to order take out and the order was ready in good time.

Tofu Tod - fried tofu. Decent.

I wrote a review about this place six years ago, and since then have come here many times. The food is amazing and so is the ambience. Let me write about some of the new things I've tried: - Fried Tofu : this is bland and just ok. - Roti : delicious. It's a side and so yummy. - Spring Rolls : so crispy and delicious. - Massaman Curry : this is by far one of my favorite curries here. The flavor is outstanding. It's got the perfect spice and seasoning. I get it with veggies. Love it. Easily one of my go-to Thai restaurants in DC. There is something for everyone. Definitely try it out.

As we prepared for a weekend in DC, this was the first stop upon arrival. We made a reservation to be safe. The time we entered was not busy, but as we started to wrap up more people were coming. It was also a holiday weekend so I would suggest making a reservation. The interior is very grown and relaxed. Perfect for a date night, wink wink! Service was excellent as well. We were seated and cared for quickly. Now the food.... WOW! So flavorful. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and there's care and love in the cooking. While it was all delicious the dipping sauce with the peanuts ! Definitely going back!

Stylish Thai restaurant, but food and service have room to grow We stopped by Soi 38 for lunch with a friend in June 2025. The interior was very nice, but the food quality was mixed. The Tom Kha soup was excellent. The duck salad had a strong, weird aftertaste, so we left most of it. The green curry was ok, not five-star though, as something seemed missing from the flavor palette. The noodles were excellent. The "crispy" duck entrée was ok but wasn't crispy at all and tasted more like a Chinese dish than Thai. Service was fast but not customer-focused. I explicitly asked not to bring entrées before we finished our appetizers and soup - common issue in Thai restaurants. Still, the entrees arrived just minutes after the appetizers and soup, leaving us to choose what to eat before it got cold. The interior and ambience were stylish and pleasant - not like a typical hole-in-the-wall Thai spots you often find in NYC. I'm giving this restaurant 4 stars and hope they read this review and improve. It felt like the potential was there, and they could elevate both the food and the service. Food ordered Yum Ped Yang (Roasted duck salad) - passable. It had a strong, weird aftertaste, so we left most of it. Tom Ka Gai (Tom Ka soup with chicken) - excellent, flavorful, having right thickness and spice level. Gaeng Kiew Wan (Green curry with chicken) - good, but something was missing from its flavor. Ped Krob Kra Prow (Crispy roasted duck) - not crispy really and tasted more like a Chinese dish than Thai. Pad See Eew (Stir-fried wide rice noodles with chicken) - excellent.

We walked in for dinner on a Friday night and, after hearing this place gets packed, surprisingly were able to get a table without a reservation. I got the lemongrass yuzu fizz and pineapple fried rice (served in a pineapple!). The food and drinks were solid and service was good.

I've gotten the Hang Lay curry with sticky rice twice, and I've had the Khao Soi here. I love this place. The ambiance is modern and nice. Service is fine. Prices are average for the area. I'm glad this place is here because the other food establishments around Foggy Bottom are uninspiring.

After having a dinner salad at the hotel where I was staying, I was famished not long after. I pulled up Uber Eats and found Soi38, offering noodles from various countries around the world. Win! I ordered the Malay style Char Kway Teow and enjoyed it. It was a little on the sweet side, but I prefer that to the same dish that has only wok char, and no sweetness or unami.

Very nice atmosphere and helpful staff. The food came out pretty fast as well. Duck roti: 5/5 very good. The favors were on point and complimented the taste of duck. Some crispiness that balances the texture profile. Shrimp Panang: 5/5 very good curry. Well balanced and not shy on the spice level. Sirloin: 1/5 very dry so obviously more on the tougher side. The sauce was ok butt there is no saving the dry sirloin. Seafood drunken noodle: 4/5 a solid pick. Great savory and spicy flavors with perfectly cooked noodles. Crispy Shrimp Entree: 5/5 absolutely must get. Eat it as soon as you can cause the crispiness goes away really fast. The flavors fight a fierce battle between spicy and tiny sweetness and savoriness. Love it. All in all 4/5. Mostly good but that sirloin was disappointing.

Went back to grab a quick meal before a play at a nearby theater. The food has always been consistent every visit. This visit we had the pad Thai, ground chicken kra prow, Tom yum soup and ginger chicken. Service was quick and friendly. It was super busy but not overly busy considering the weekend.

great for large parties. service is efficient and cordial. the menu has wide variety of thai classics as well as more unique signature dishes and hotpots plenty of seafood options, so it can accommodate dietary restrictions recommend chive dumplings and pad see ew

Sometimes you wonder what some other Yelpers are thinking. Because this place is a five star place. I stopped in for lunch. Cool vibe and sat near the bar area. Service was quick and friendly with water glasses refilled quickly. I just ordered the Kai prow and it came just as I love this dish with just enough spice to make the minced chicken shine. And not too heavy on the sauce too. A winner.

This is the best Thai food I've had outside of Thailand! The flavors are amazing and the food is soooo good. The decor just adds to the experience with giant golden designs painted on the walls both in the dining room and the bathrooms. The service was very attentive and receptive to changes in the spice level. There's a reason this restaurant is recommended by Michelin... and it's well earned!

I've ordered takeout, delivery, and dined in and the quality is always good and the food is really tasty. I'm generally not a seafood person but their Tom Yum Seafood soup is legit sooo good. Idk how mama is able to make the squid not chewy but she is a wizard. The chicken Panang curry is my go to. It's got a good little kick to it but is full of flavor. The calamari is also really delicious, the batter is so light and crispy. The pad see ew is also solid, as is the pad Thai. Basically everything I've ever had is delicious because Mama is really cooking up some magic back in the kitchen.

After walking around for an hour, we came back, but the receptionist informed us that no tables were available yet. Despite the heavy wind, they made us wait outside again. We were finally seated after a total wait of an hour and a half, while some other walk-ins got tables instantly. The terrible service continued inside. The table next to us had ordered 15 minutes before us and was still waiting for their food. It took another 45 minutes for our food to arrive--and that was only because I nudged the staff after 30 minutes of waiting. I've been to many American, European, and Asian restaurants, but none have ever been this slow. Price-wise, the portions were small and the flavor fell short compared to standard Thai restaurants. My husband and I had Pad Thai, seafood Tom Yum, and a platter of boiled vegetables with spicy dipping sauce and sticky rice. The vegetables were overcooked. The Tom Yum cost $30 for a small bowl that could barely feed one person (usually enough for two elsewhere), and it tasted like clam soup with zero lime leaf aroma. The tofu in the Pad Thai was bone-dry and crumbly. To top it all off, the restroom floor was soaking wet due to a leak. On top of that, the restroom was not only soaking wet but also inexplicably freezing, making me feel like I was using the toilet in the middle of a windy ocean. Will definitely not be back.

We had major indecision because there's SO many things on the menu we wanted to try but ended up getting: Naem khao: 4/5 probably better with the sour pork, but loved how fresh this was. It was a large portion too, so we got kind of full from finishing it before our mains even arrived. Shrimp pad see ew: 5/5 the best pad see ew I've had in the DMV. So much wok fire flavor. You can really taste the caramelization. And the large shrimp were velveted which was made it extra satisfying to eat. Also a good shareable portion size! Muu Som: 4/5 this was super rich and heavy. Would get this again only to share with a larger group. Loved that it came with sticky rice. Mango sticky rice: 4/5 delicious but in my opinion didn't need the ice cream on top (my boyfriend thinks otherwise though). Very large portion as well. The cocktails were a little pricy ($15) for what they were but I did love the tamarind margarita. Just wish it was a larger drink or a smaller price tag. Service was very attentive!

I was a bit indecisive as the menu is pretty extensive, and I've never eaten Laotian food before. Luckily, it was happy hour, so I was able to sample a couple of their appetizers and their daiquiri which was quite strong. I had the Tam Sum, papaya salad and that was very good with a hint of spice and lime. Then, I also had Chuenh Peek Gai, which was tamarind glazed wings. Omg they were savory and crispy! I loved these. For the entree, the bartender recommended some great options, but I finally settled on Kee Mao, which is flattened rice noodles with stir fry beef and vegetables. It was also a very savory dish, with a sweetness to it. Laotian food is very similar to Thai food and I love Thai food. I will not sleep on this restaurant and will be back soon!!

Corn coated in a thin layer of tempura batter, fried until crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, showcasing its natural sweetness and slightly chewy texture. It was somewhat like a Chinese yumi-lao玉米烙 but more moist. The most surprising thing was that despite being entirely vegetarian food, it has the sweetness and meaty texture of fried shrimp paste. The sweet and sour sauce is similar to the Thai sweet chili sauce commonly found in China, but thinner. Served in a small cup, it looked like a cup of black tea, making it more refreshing. Grilled Pork Neck: Very different from pork neck in Chinese Thai cuisine; it's more like Cantonese char-siu叉燒. The pork neck was very well marinated and grilled to a very tender perfection, with a rich and smooth honey aroma, and a subtle wine aftertaste, but it was slightly too sweet for me. Nam Jin Jaew was primarily composed of the tangy kick of lime and the savory saltiness of fish sauce, complemented by the mild spiciness of bird's eye chili, the special fragrance of cilantro, and the sweetness of palm sugar, with a subtle hint of smokiness. It was refreshing on the whole, and incredibly layered - I fell in love with it instantly. Tom Saab Soup: It looked light, but it was surprisingly spicy and sour! The ribs were very fresh, all marbled with fat and lean meat, stewed until incredibly tender, allowing you to taste the natural aroma of the meat. The sourness was subtle, clear, and mild, with a base of lemongrass fragrance that added even more depth. My friend thoughtfully ordered it mildly spicy, but in the end, it just felt like it lacked a kick. Mango Sticky Rice: The best mango sticky rice I've ever had! The sticky rice was cooked to perfect texture and warmth, absorbing the coconut milk flawlessly - neither too watery nor too dry. The first taste was the fragrance of glutinous rice, followed by the sweetness of coconut milk, and a refreshing, slightly tart mango to cut through the richness. Thai Iced Tea: Too much condensed milk, excessively sweet. My friend said it was much sweeter than the last time she had it. Was this a change in the recipe, or did the quality control need improvement? The restaurant's introduction states: "When she left for the US, Boom didn't know she wouldn't get to see her home again for many years - and she still hasn't. Donsak is a way around that."
