For a county with an increasing number of micro brews, you'd think a brewery would have to really nail down its recipes prior to opening. I stopped by for a Crowler of the IIPA on my way home from work, and since it was my first time in there, was impressed and excited to have a brewery so close to home. Upon first tasting the IIPA at home, I was immediately put off by it. Barely hoppy, I don't even know what I'd call it. Hopefully their other beers are decent, but this was a poor first showing. I enjoyed the beer I selected, but that is all I enjoyed. My wife found the bartenders to be less than customer friendly and we both found the fenced in family area to be extremely off-putting. We have been to almost 600 breweries (and 250 with my son), and have never once encountered such a thing. We felt like animals in a cage, and were not wanted there. There were no games, and no televisions (except for the ones all the way on the other side of the building) in the segregated area. I'd rather them just say it is a 21+ establishment. We will never visit this brewery again, even without our son. read more

Great place to enjoy company and friends! Awesome beers. However, please put some restrictions on the animals unless they are trained. Too many folks show up with pets. Amendment: not 30 minutes after I wrote this review 2 people walked in with 4 dogs. Then another two people walked in with 2 dogs. I love dogs but this is a bit much. There was more barking than conversation. The ownership should get this under control. I also don't understand how an establishment that serves beverages allows animals to walk in off the street. Solace is one of our favorite breweries to visit. They are always busy but it doesn't stop the staff from being amazing and outgoing. I am NOT a beer person but their beer is great- love the Lucy Juicy and Beach Bod and always come home with full growlers. The food trucks they have are always great and we really enjoy our visits and usually bring/recruit friends to come. Definitely a must-stop. I am a proud owner of their merch and I have to say I usually do not advertise places but their long sleeve tee shirt is one of my favorite, most comfortable shirts and their Ugly Christmas Sweater sweatshirts won my wife and I party awards while keeping us warm, stylish and comfy. We also love St. Paddy's Day here because of the green beer and beads. Good beer, food fun atmosphere and nice clothes- can't ask for more! read more

Made the trip out from DC to check this place out on a Friday early evening. Beautiful weather, minimal traffic and plenty of space to sit and enjoy the great beer options made for a perfect visit. I enjoyed my Black Friday at Solace! There's plenty of seating (and probably room for a lot more if necessary) and a nice selection of beers. I probably ended up being here for about 3 hours, and during that time frame I tried a few of the stouts and wheat beers--all were pretty tasty. I personally do not like IPAs so I didn't try theirs but my friends seemed to enjoy them. Another cool thing they had was a catered bbq stand over by the bar. I forget the name of the restaurant but they are also local. The food and prices were great so no complaints there. I don't live too close to this place but if I'm ever back in the area. i,d definitely stop by in a heartbeat read more

I was a Solace mug club member pre-COVID during the first year they offered membership. My wife and I live less than three miles from the Brewery and enjoyed the beers, location and at that time, the staff. However, during a visit at Halloween years ago with friends who had never been to Solace, one of the beer tenders was visibly "put out" because we had our dogs in the brewery--which by the way is permitted. After a number of dirty looks we got, we decided that Solace was not worthy of our business and stopped patronizing a once "favorite spot." On Mon Jan 2, we decided to give Solace another try. It was a warm day and we stopped in right after they opened, so it wasn't that busy. I waited in line to grab our beers and I noticed how rude the beer tender was to the patrons who were in front of me in line, noting that the patrons even said thank you to her, and she didn't even respond with a simple "you're welcome." When my wife went to purchase our second round, with the same beer tender, who's customer service was so poor, I wondered how she could even be in the "people business" since customer experience at breweries is paramount. As we sat outside on the deck, we overheard the table next to us mention how much attitude this same beer tender gave them when placing their order--the sad part about it was that these folks were obviously from out of the area as they ordered flights and commented that they'd never been to Solace before. We really want to frequent this place since it's so close to home, but the attitude is just too much and I can take my business to so many other places and not feel like I'm doing the establishment a favor. This is also particularly bad for Solace with Honor Brewing being established across the street which is where we'll be spending our hard-earned cash as we've received nothing but top shelf treatment during our visits to Honor. Drew, John and the Solace management team, you're losing customers and business. So disappointed, we won't be back! read more

All around outstanding beer selection, and at least as important, quality. I had heard of this place from a coworker but often came up with a reason to not make the long (45 mins +) drive, especially with other very good breweries closer to me. Finally made it recently, and I am glad I did - the hype was worth it. I felt their IPAs were on par with those of Ocelot (i.e. excellent) with the session IPA and double (Lucy Juicy) being standouts. And their other beers that I tried (coffee stout and Wit) were also very good. Their large space was well designed with a separate families only space which was welcome for us as it was also somewhat quieter. Expect food trucks on the weekend (the BBQ one the day we went was very good). We will have to put this on our rotation to make it out on the occasional Saturday, and try the rest and any specials/seasonals. read more

This large brewery taproom has some obvious advantages, including a very good NE IPA, a nice wit, clever beer names, high end glassware, huge TV's with sports rolling, separate large kids' area, and awesome fusbol table. Really good beer selection, especially the IPAs. I love hops so this place is great for me. We went on Mothers dAy Sunday. Had the ResQ BBQ, which was really good too. the only part that was weird was there were many more kids than adults. There is a kids designated section, but many parents decided that the bar was a better place for the kids. I don't mind it so much, just gets to be a little too much after awhile. Had no idea they were there until we saw them partnered with Ocelot so we stopped on our way home from there. So glad we did. Most places I try a flight from have 2 or 3 I'd drink a full pint of, but these guys went 5 for 5. I went there last week and ordered a flight - not a single remarkable beer in the bunch (6). It has lots of room, but nothing going on other than people talking with friends and you can do that at any brewery (and probably find a better beer). The beer is pretty good but the service is questionable. I tried two beers and bought one of those. On my next go round I wanted to try something different to see if I would order something else or stick to the same beer. The woman working told me I couldn't sample more than one ounce. That doesn't seem like a real rule and if it is it's a poor one. I decided to go to mustang sally because I've never had an issue tasting a beer there. For a brewery in an industrial park this place was really good. Yes I know that a lot of these breweries in NoVA are in these types of areas for many a reason. I just liked the vibe here. Excellent bbq menu. The food came up quick and was fantastic. I thought the way you serve yourself was ingenious, not to mention convenient for patrons. I also thought the taps were a bit of a social area. A place to talk to people you otherwise would not have. I only saw a small place for outside seating so I'm hoping they can expand in the future. Wish I could give this place 0 stars. They say dog friendly. I don't buy it for a second. I personally watched a dog get kicked out because the dog wanted to be pet. The dog was being so well behaved! Also, I think their beer is subprime at best. Better beer to be found in the Sterling area for sure. Take your business to Ono, Mustang Sally, Honor (coming 2019), or Twinpanzee. The beer is bad and the "dog friendly" ploy is just that.... a ploy. read more
