I experienced absolute disappointment with Solartech due to their outright job abandonment. While they swiftly installed the system, the project was left hanging, neglected. Despite my relentless attempts to obtain information on the RMA installation by SDGE, they remained shockingly unresponsive for weeks. I had to take charge and contact SDGE myself to ensure any progress. Out of nowhere, Solartech unexpectedly appeared for a city inspection after two months, even though the project wasn't close to being ready. This forced the inspection to be canceled. In a conference call with their VP of Operations, I learned that they blamed an employee's departure for the chaos. But internal issues should never justify their neglect of duty and customer care. We chose Solartech despite their not being the cheapest option, assuming we'd receive top-notch service. However, they massively let us down. Their offer of a mere $500 discount feels like a slap in the face for the hassle and inconvenience we've faced. And to add insult to injury, they left unsealed holes on our property, a clear sign of substandard workmanship that only amplified our dissatisfaction. Another significant issue was their failure to explain the solar panels and battery system, despite numerous inquiries. Promises were made time and again to provide crucial details, but they were never followed through. Solartech's negligence and false promises not only fell short but created a complete inconvenience and headache. Their inability to navigate internal changes without adversely impacting their clients is alarming. Considering the hefty price tag we paid, expecting quality service, we didn't even receive a deal. Pros - SunPower makes a good product - Installer did a pretty nice looking job on our sub-panel install - Installers were generally nice Cons - Install initially quoted at 3-5 days, and took almost 3 weeks - Our sales/PD guy was great, when he could be reached. Most of the time was "out of office" and "on vacation" with no one else taking his calls and emails, making us reach out to the main office which was hit and miss - Installers were almost always late and always left early - Their company is VERY far from us, which probably led to multiple issues, but for some reason SunPower allows them to book jobs 2-3 hours away - Project managers either didn't exist or didn't know what they were doing, sometimes they'd send 3 or 4 guys out and only one guy would be working for most of the day - Tools and personal items left at our home multiple times, technicians asking to come by on weekends to pick them up - Refused to guarantee work on multiple roof surfaces due to state of roof material. Three separate roofing companies said we didn't need to re-roof but they'd take our money if we really wanted to. We ended up having to sign SolarTech's agreement that they wouldn't guarantee their work - Installers used my personal tools from my garage without asking (yes. for real. it's hard to overstate how unbelievable this all was) - Rewired our main breaker box, leaving part of our home without power, including AC unit (during a heat wave), and then left - It took multiple return visits over 3 or 4 days from technicians to regain power to our entire home - They didn't label the new breaker box. Senior installers or managers would act disappointed, even talk trash on their coworkers, but then not really fix things (I ultimately labeled it myself because I didn't want to have them in my home any longer) - They left exterior wiring conduits unpainted (i.e. no one came out to verify the install was completed properly) - After the install was finished they never followed up with the county to complete the inspections, so we sat there for a month for no reason (it took another month after that until we could actually use them). 1/6 of a year sat not generating power for no reason other than SolarTech forgot about us - A year after this nightmare concluded, they're finally balancing their books and realized we still owe them for a sub-panel that wasn't included in the loan. That's how they're running things there. In short: I would absolutely get a SunPower system again, from a different installer. read more

Excellent choice for solar, but careful with the financing! In my research on solar panels in late 2020, the choice really came down to two OEMs: LG and SunPower. They were the only two that had inverters built into each panel. The idea is that if your panel get shaded or otherwise disrupted, only the affected panel loses AC charging capacity rather than all of them feeding a single, master inverter. Ace sales guy Mark Albano explained all of this to me and was patient with all of my other questions and my eventual re-quote for more panels. We had a few factors working against us to size the system correctly. We were new in our house, so we had no real baseline usage. Our previous house had no A/C. We would be charging on EV, might buy another one, I was COVID working at home, so my commuting miles were artificially low. In other words, sizing was going to be a bit of a guessing game. The good news is that we seemed to get it right: my SDGE true-up bill was about -$200 in 2021 and 2022. When the day came, installation on my concrete tile roof was quick and efficient. The crew was polite and professional. I was concerned about tile breakage and leaks, and had researched a special mount designed to reduce that risk. I shared it with Mark and he told me that's what the normally use...excellent! The bad part was the financing. Interest rates were at historic lows when I bought, yet my rate with Technology Credit Union (of San Jose!) was 5.49%. I'm sure it's more in 2023. I expect that Solar Tech made a point or so on the loan itself. The rate still penciled, as my payment for my 14 panel 6.5 kW system is $180, less than what my SDG&E bills were even with no A/C or EVs. What Tech CU *doesn't* tell you is that once you get a loan with them, they put a lien on your house like a second mortgage!!! This is VERY problematic when you go to re-fi. Each time, you have to go to Tech CU, pay a $250 "Subordination Fee" then wait about a week. Anyone who's refinanced knows that you normally don't have a spare week if you want to lock in a good rate. So I lost out on my first re-fi in 2021. I'm sure you can imagine how pissed I was. I even spoke to a few different attorneys about damages due to the financial impact and of course the lack of disclosure in the initial contract! I would normally say "read the fine print," but that's hard to do when the objectionable language is completely MISSING! The lawyers said that the best I could do would be to just pay off the loan and get rid of them, which I'm just about to do. My advice with Solar Tech is to pay cash, get your own loan or put it on a credit card that gets you lots of points. Anything but Technology Credit Union! read more

SolarTech installed my panels in January of this year, the installation crew was very polite. I am satisfied with the installation process and the operation of the system. I have one complaint, when the boxes where installed next to the electrical panel, one of the boxes was placed to close to the box below which makes it hard to open and close the box that was installed above. I made a call to my project manager and informed him of my problem, he said that he would forward this to the service department. I waited. then called again and left a message, no response. I called a third time and talked to receptionist who transferred me to the message machine again. I thought maybe they are busy but they should have the decency to call back. My friend told me that he got a bid from Renova and SolarTech and went with SolarTech because they were the best price out of everyone who quoted and they had a GREAT experience with the install and every aspect of the sale. My friends words: "They did an amazing job - quick, clean, efficient, and the best price we got quoted out of all the companies." SO...I contacted Eric at SolarTech and I have to say...I was impressed. It seems lately, home improvement companies are ghosting everyone and just acting rude. Eric was a class act and a great resource even after he knew we were not going to hire him. His words: "You are very welcome, I just want what's best for you and if that means going with another Company then I have no problem telling you that. If you have any other questions or want me to look at the [other] quote when you get it, just let me know. I'm here to help!" After contacting SolarTech with what I was looking to do and sending them all the info I have on our solar system and our last years bills, etc., Eric wrote me a lengthy email with why he did not think I really needed them. Instead, he took the time to leave me with valuable info in case I wanted to go ahead with one of his competitors AND he offered to evaluate any quote that I got to make sure it seemed fair. I took him up on that offer, sending him 2 quotes and he (again) took the time to look through those and point out that he thought the quotes seemed fair and why and a few extra bits of analysis. Really, truly a great business I would be happy to engage with, so I am a little bummed we won't be going with Eric, but I HIGHLY recommend throwing SolarTech in the mix with any other quotes you get. Everything went great. When I did an addition in 2020, they installed 11 SunPower panels and a battery backup. I used them again in 2023 to add 3 additional SunPower panels and replace a roof over my detached garage. For both installations the process was straightforward and smoothly executed. Imagine the perfect solar solution to your electric bills - SolarTech has put that together. The salesman explained everything clearly and answered all my questions. SolarTech engineers put the plan together, did all the permitting work with the city and worked through my HOA approval process. The arrived when they said they would, installed on my tile roof, even noting the type of tile in case they ever had to replace it. My HOA required a thin 1/2 inch diameter pipe to be painted the same color as the house and that was done the same day too. Every bit of debris was removed. The crew was nice and easy to work with and respectful of my property. My plan is a 20 year lease, assumable if I ever sell my house. My electric costs are now fixed with a very minimal escalation clause each year. My plan included batteries that automatically switch on to use stored energy when the grid goes down and slightly excess capacity now to cover the possibility of charging an all electric car in the future. We had solar tech come out for an installation. They never tighten the screw in the junction box that controls adding power to the home and back to the grid. Every day this solar box shorted out. We emailed and called for over 2 months to get someone out to troubleshoot. I had to fight with the tech to get them to come out and fix it. I was told there is no way it is a system issue. I escalated to sunpower and they finally came out. The first tech did not find the problem. I had to go through the calling and emailing again until they sent a better tech. He checked the box and found the screw was never tightened and causing a daily short. Our power bills were large due to summer rates and no solar. Also, they told us everything was fine when it was not. Now, they will do nothing to compensate us and ignore emails and calls. Don't use this company read more

Solar Tech did reach out to me finally - the day I posted my review. Their explanation for the lack of response after so many months was because of workflow issues and Covid. If they were backlogged and having staffing issues all they needed to do was just return my call and let me know they were behind and I would have understood. I was tempted to go with another company but decided to have Solar Tech do my repair because they were already familiar with my pool solar system. They purchase the company who originally installed it and they expanded our system several years ago. They did send a crew out to do the repairs very quickly after they finally reached out to me. The crew was very polite and they did a good job. I also received several follow up calls from their management who were very concerned about my 1 star review. I am updating my review from 1 to 3 stars because they did finally respond, apologize and did a good job on the repair. We bought a home in Santaluz where the previous owner had a solar heating system installed on top of the patio cover. We wanted to change the patio cover and had Solartech come out and dismantle the system. They returned after the patio cover was replaced and reinstalled the solar pool heating system perfectly! Earl and Grant did a great job, and the price was reasonable. The schedule coordination was professional, timely and courteous! If you have solar panels and a pool, get solar heating! We got ours installed this past Tuesday, the water temp went from 77 degrees Tuesday to now at 92 today (Sun. It's 77 degrees outside and the pump is spitting out 94 degree water. We didn't have a gas line to our pool equipment so this was our best and only option but I wouldn't have it any other way since the only cost is the install. Pump runs during the sunniest/warmest part of the day but since we have solar panels, no additional electric costs for us. Win, win! Kevin and his crew did a good job with the install. It's been almost 4 months since I installed the panels, and I haven't received the permission to operate from SDGE. I haven't received the sunPower rebate either, which was supposed to arrive within 2 months of installation. I've been paying Both SDGE bill and panel loan payments for 3 months and don't know how much longer I need to wait. The agent wasnt helping. No one seems to care about this. Long story short, after calling SDGE twice, city 3 times, and contact sunPower Myself, I have a better understanding of the situation and hopefully problem will be solved soon (finger crossed). The city lady should have pass the inspection release to SDGE, but somehow didt. The solartech agent should have submitted the rebate or provided me with the code but didn't. With all this happened, I can't rate the company highly. It feels like those hospital bill thing. All they do is asking money from customers. And all insurance companies does is denying bills. It becomes patient's/customer's responsibility to troubleshoot, take the time to call multiple parties to make sure people do the right thing. That's not a good service. read more

I received competing quotes from multiple solar contractors including the big names like Baker and Sunrun. Competitor's panels, warranty and production fall behind the SunPower panels SolarTech install and their quotes for the same KW system (a 13kW system in my instance) were twice as expensive. I've used SolarTech three times for house and pool solar and the service seems to have progressively gotten worse. 1. First installation was good, they reached out ahead of install date and installed within the time per the contract for both house and pool solar. I did notice the solar output wasn't as much as expected so I followed up a few times until someone came out and said the panels weren't all fully connected, which should have been identified by their team (per them). Resulted in 3-4 months of missed output during peak months, no compensation or discount for future purchases for missed savings based on their mistake. But, based on their responsiveness and superior product, I referred multiple people. 2. Second install was okay, but not nearly as good. I reached out a few days after not hearing from anyone until the beginning of my installation period. It was clear they forgot about my project as I got a permit submission email after I reached out. This caused a delay from the contract installation dates. 3. Most recently, the service has been the worst. -Approximate start date of 4/7/23, approximate completion date of 4/23/23, actual installation date TBD (late August/early September last I heard). - I had to follow up multiple times from a week before install date for about two months, most of the time not receiving any response to my inquiries from their team. But, I understand permit delays so didn't decide to update my review given all of these issues to date. We finally got an installation date almost two months past the contract date (June 2023). - Only a few days after they schedule an installation date, I get an email from a separate SolarTech employee saying there is a logistics delay with the panels in my contract and would not get my panels until late August/early September. Based on my email conversation it seemed apparent they knew about the delays in the panels for some time. However, I had not been notified at any step in this process: contract signing, follow ups about permit, and even scheduled installation date. It's quite unfortunate that I have referred many to this Company as there appears to be a pattern vs just a few mistakes since signing the first contract. If you're paying higher than the average, which Sunpower panels are, you would expect better service. I have gone back to them three times and I've only been rewarded with worsening customer service and treatment. read more

So far the panels I purchased have been nothing but problems. SolarTech just blames SunPower for the issue and does little to fix the problem. I have lost MONTHS of production and still the answer I get is that it will be fixed next week and next week NEVER comes. I have never had a worse experience with a product or customer service. When we made the decision to do solar, we obtained multiple bids from vendors. Dispute SolarTech being $10k more than other bids, we went with them based on their promise of continuity of customer service and ease of warranty work in the future. I am beyond frustrated with SolarTech. The communication and attention to detail has been extremely poor. I was told a tech would be coming to finish the install today between 5-6am, which I verified by repeating back to you when you called me back Friday. The tech did not show. I waited until 6:30am before going to work LATE. I start work at 6am. A call, a text or an email could have been sent. However, nobody called me to say they were not coming or needed to reschedule due to the weather. This is unacceptable. This is not the only issue I have had. On the initial install it was not communicated to me that my install was not complete due to parts being unavailable. Apparently it was on the install notes and an inspection never should have been scheduled but I was told the next step is the inspection with the county. The inspection was scheduled for March 17. I took the day off of work to be there only to find out I was going to fail the inspection. Imagine my frustration today again waiting for a tech that never showed up or communicated that they would not be coming by. At this point I have taken 3 days off of work (2 for the install, 1 for the failed inspection), had to go into work late today and will have to burn another day at work for a second inspection whenever that is scheduled. My solar had a tentative install as Jan 26 but was not installed until the end of February, which I understand was likely delayed due to weather. However, I had to reach out to Solar Tech to see when the install would happen, nobody called to let me know my project was delayed. Then when I finally did have an install date there was an atmospheric river predicted in the weather forecast. I called two days before the scheduled install to see if my install was going to be rescheduled so I could plan whether or not I needed to take days off of work. The person I spoke to seemed to have no idea that it was supposed to rain like cats and dogs for multiple days. She told me my project was still on. Then called me later on to let me know it would be rescheduled the next day. At this point I have little confidence in this company. I am a reasonable person. If the above issues were communicated I wouldn't be sitting here frustrated wondering why did I go with this company. While this may not seem like a big deal,it is when I have to schedule time off of work , paid a lot more for their service (based on customer service sales pitch) compared to the other vendors that bid, and am paying both a solar loan and an electricity bill to the tune of over $800/mo. We will continue to update this post , good or bad, based on actions taken by SolarTech. We don't enjoy blasting folks, it's not our nature, but we also feel that when you make a commitment or promise, you keep it. when you mess up or make a mistake, you make it right. Just don't want others to have to go thru these same struggles. The price of solar and the decision to move forward is big.
