First time there and had a smoked salmon schmear bagel which was very good although a trifle small. I also ordered a couple of bakery items to go including one of their famous cinnamon buns with icing. I was hugely disappointed when I got home and opened the box to discover my cinnamon bun did not have any icing. For the longest time, I came to Solly's solely for the incredible cinnamon buns. Family get-togethers are the perfect excuse to buy 2 dozen and "accidentally" forget a dozen at home. The key is to get there early, however, or else they be all gone! With a recent Groupon voucher, I finally tried the bagels. And because I got the last dozen bagels (yes, I broke my rule about getting there early), I also got a few muffins to make up the voucher value. The bagels: meh. They're good, but I prefer Siegel's bagels. But those muffins? OMG!! They were cottage cheese muffins; the most sublime, chewy, not too sweet pieces of yummy deliciousness! I am so happy that they ran out of bagels that day! I can't really comment on the service because I always take my stuff to go. There is always a line up when I visit though. And I will gladly line up for more cinnamon buns and cottage cheese muffins in the near future. read more

One of the best cinnamon buns I've had. Its so gooey that I actually had to scrape hardened sugar off my teeth. A pain in the butt to eat but the pastry was very soft. Definitely worth stopping at if you're in the area. read more

Much more than bagels! I was intrigued by Solly's after passing the giant fluorescent lit bagel on several occasions. I don't generally fancy bagels, I maybe eat one a year. Yet, the bagel phenomenon has always interested me, most notably the traditional style boiled and baked variety. When you enter Solly's you become immersed in a world of traditional Jewish baking. The sweet smells of their outstanding cinnamon buns, the savory smells of their homemade soups, and the essence of the fresh baked bagels fill the air. It's cozy inside, loose tables and chairs and a stool bar make it easy to find a seat (mind you we visited on a Sunday mid afternoon). The ordering process is totally confusing- split counters never work! You have to order sandwiches and bagels from the right, then take your order info to the left, where you can pay and order the other menu items. Because of this mess, they missed our hotdoggle on the order. But after passing the cinnamon buns we were happy it was forgotten, and opted for one of them instead. We shared a pumpkin bagel with (a MOUND of) cream cheese and the cinnamon bun. The cream cheese was a little much, and next time I think I'd opt for straight up butter so the bagel doesn't get lost. The cinnamon bun was out of this world! You know the disappointment you get when you order a cinnamon bun and it's a sad, bland coil of dry pastry lost under some crusty old icing? Not these puppies. They are fresh, soft, delicate and buttery, and a caramelized topping replaces the standard crusty white icing top. The prices are decent, $3 for the sweet buns, $6-$12 for a sandwich. Now that I've seen the process I'll be prepared for the chaos and order like a pro. read more

The fresh bagels are delicious! However we got a bag of the half off cinnamon buns that apparently just are buns that weren't sold and frozen right away but we do not recommended! Pay full price for the fresh ones as these pre frozen buns weren't even edible with a strange freezer burnt taste/staleness. read more

Food is decent but the manager is not really competent in the customer service. Made a order for a breakfast bagel unfortunately they charge me and made the wrong one. I understand mistakes happen. When I asked for a correction, I automatically assume to have made the order wrong. When I tried to explain that i literally pointed to the menu item I wanted and ask details about the ingredients, she cutting me off. She was clearly annoyed with me asking for my correct menu item. She did refund me back the money they owned and charged me for the menu item that I received. I surprised that she didn't compensate the extra cream charge that was like $1.50 just for their mistake. Solly's is a terrible place to eat. I have PERSONALLY EATEN THERE three times and each time I was very disappointed by the shocking level of disorganization and chaos. I've witnessed with my own eyes the owner berating her staff in front of customers. I urge people to read the reviews of this place from other people echoing the same things I'm saying: the owner is a bully, the food is whatever, and the cleanliness is a disturbing factor. Don't be fooled by people giving this place 5 stars, it's because they have a vested interest in the company (you do the math). If you can look past the filthy sandwich bar and nonexistent customer service, the menu looks pretty delicious. After walking up the counter where you are supposed to order and being ignored, I asked if I was in the right place. The girl behind the counter said "ya hold on" I got the veggie sandwich on bagel and spicy black bean soup. The soup was delicious. The sandwich looked really yummy, until I found tuna all over the bottom. As a vegetarian, I wasn't too impressed. I decided to to pick that part off and continue, having spent $13 for a sandwich and small cup of soup. Then I found the mouldy cucumber. At that point I went to the counter and let them know. They were not terribly concerned but did offer to remake the sandwich which I declined, having lost my appetite. Did I mention the girl making the sandwiches wasn't wearing a hair net or gloves? Good bagels, not good enough to justify the bad service. Been in here quite a bit and service has never been great. Ordered 2 bagels and never had my order called out, I figured they were just really busy. After seeing many people eating who were far behind me in line 20-25 minutes later I look and my order has been sitting my the register (hidden from my sight) for God knows how long (never called my name or order or anything). I ask the girl how long my bagels have been sitting there and she said she didn't know. They are ice cold. Never offered to make me new ones or a refund, she just gave me a blank stare. Alright, I told myself I was done with Solly's after a not-so-great visit to their main location. But this was years ago and as luck would have it, I was by their 7th ave location near lunchtime. We ordered the latke special and the vegetarian bagel sandwich & soup combo (borscht). And, I gotta hand it to them, it was all delicious and totally hit the spot. The cafe was so busy but they kept up the pace and our order didn't take long at all. One small thing, my partner said one of the staff members was giving me the stink eye while we waited in line? I laughed when they told me this because I have no idea what I could have done to earn such disdain. But hey, sometimes people are just having a rough day at their job so who knows. In any event, I will absolutely return to this location again if I'm in the area. Oh and my biggest gripe with the main st location was cleanliness. I'll give the 7th avenue location a 3.5/5 for cleanliness. Heaps better but still room for improvement. read more

I love Solly's bagels. It's got that nice home cooked feel you don't find much anymore. The only issue I have is I like whole grain breads and they whole grain is VERY grainy, it's got all sorts of shit in it that make it a bit much. This is a tough one, as Vancouver is not a Mecca (ha ha) for Bagels. In a town that offers so little in terms of Bagels this is one of your best bets. The problem is not with the Bagel or the food but with pricing and service. The place has new (and always unsmiling) faces every time we go. Coffee is surprisingly overpriced and the bagels are a tad bit on the expensive side. The service is all over the map - we have had our orders messed up a few times and they are just very nonchalant about the hole thing. Solly's has some delicious bagels. My personal favourite is the Veggie Sammie. The sprouts, the avocado, the cucumber, and that dill shmear! Get in my belly you delicious thing you. This is a great place to grab some lunch, or just a coffee and treat. They have lots of Jewish comfort foods and some lovely baked treats as well. When my sweet tooth is nagging me I order a tasty chocolate babka....mmmm.... It can be very crowded - especially at lunch time on the weekends. Usually I'm able to grab a seat, but be warned that it can be a challenge on the weekends! read more

(not a mushroom fan) My friend and I are hooked on the potato leek and potato and onion, however there are days where I have popped in and they're all sold out! Pretty great. Actually super yummy got the eggel lox which was delicious, the egg lox and cream cheese was all in one side, and served open, really should have cream cheese on the other side as it's served open with nothing on it. My partner had the chicken soup, larger was not really large. Even walking by, OUTSIDE, you get the great aroma of their cinnamon rolls. Every muscle in my body demands warm carb-loaded food. Perhaps this solves the problem of shopping on an empty stomach? Come in Solly's and eat a wonderful and warm cinnamon roll first. The ambiance reminds me somewhat of a Tim Horton's. So you won't feel too inclined to linger. Twice in one week! That rarely happens for me ANYWHERE! but we had seen those eggels and wanted to eat them for lunch so back here we came! Loved their variety of bagels and since i can never make up my mind, I just chose the mish mash, to complement my regular eggel. Served fresh and hot, the egg seemed a little overcooked, but I was very happy with the cheesiness and paprika added. My mish mash bagel had loads of different flavours, with the onion being the most prominent, but I didn't mind. You may not think that the bagel is very filling, but beware.... you will get full! Bough an apple strudel slice to take home and was very happy with the overall quality and the amount of filling. The crust was not overly thick and the apples were tart and just the amount of ripeness, while still holding crunch to them. Not too too sweet and I enjoyed every single bite of this delicious dessert. Now that Im part of the Eggel lover's club (stamps for ordering eggels), I will be back for more!!!! read more

I came here for lunch one day and I didn't even know where to start. Solly's Bagelry is part lunch counter, part store, part cafe and it is cute beyond words! I ordered their salmon and cream cheese bagel to satisfy a craving and it was sure delicious. The capers served with it wasn't too salty or overpowering. Yum! They were quite generous with the smoked salmon too (and they better be! The bagel came to $10). I got it on a sesame bagel and there was a slight hint of sesame in every bite (unlike the bagels you get at Timmy's). The price was a bit steep for just a bagel, but for an occasional treat, its definitely worth it. I was so tempted to get one of their cinnamon buns - they looked so delicious! But that will be saved for my next visit. Definitely will be back for more baked goodness. read more

Decent Bagelry just off Cambie on 7th. Living right next to this bagel joint I probably get more Bagels than I deserve, I know I certainly get more Cinnamon buns than I need. They're damn good. With service being somewhat slow and the likelihood of being overcrowded at lunch (especially on weekends) you should get here early. The Cinnamon buns are tasty, and the bagels... well are bagely. Solly's has a great selection of yummy Jewish deli food, but I was a wee bit disapointed. I really liked their amazing bagels, great veggie meatballs (made of tofu, nuts and cheese) and really good knishes. However, the lox was really, really fishy (bordering on rank) and the cheese blintzes were a bit greasy and overwhelmingly sweet. The service was friendly, but I had to wait over 20 minutes for my takeaway egg bagel. They were busy, but that seemed a tad excessive for a counter service cafe. I cannot stress how good the bagels are, though. It is worth getting a dozen for the freezer! read more

Excellent brunch choice!! Their bagels are prepared right in front of you and looks so delicious. The eggels are delicious. Must try their cheese muffins which are so fluffy and melt in your mouth heaven. The potato laktas are something to try if you love hash browns. Solly's Jewish Bakery! The best I know (although it's also the only one I know... not that that's a bad thing they goods!) Solly's has great beagles and soup! I have a Jewish friend whose mom has been kind enough to make me that chicken meatball soup and Solly's comes to close to that home cookin! The yellow splite pea soup is also super tasty and their turkey sandwiches are pretty hefty. The bad? Well nothing's really outstanding. I loved their cottage cheese muffins, but i've noticed they've gradually shrunk in size and now... well its not the same! Overalll a good place to check out and eat for soup and sandwich! read more

Had an amazing tasting adventure with the pastries I got from Sollys. Five star for the cinnamon buns, the hot doggle and the knish. I'm salivating thinking of them right now. The hot doggle - pastry wrapped around a fresh big sausage - had garlic taste in it and it was just amazing. Try that if you like garlic. Why not five stars then? The service was lacking. The young male cashier that served me never smiled once, rushed to take my order and looked like he was having the worst time of his life taking my order. He also barked orders to those around him, which I didn't really like. Cool homely neighborhood spot , great Jewish pastries and bagels, but not great service. They seem to hire a team of young students that look pretty bewildered and unorganized. As a result food orders take time and I've seen them often done incorrectly. On my most recent trip I ordered the regular Eggel, but when I got it the scrambled egg portion looked almost green, and tasted like a salt lick. I'm not sure if they can clean the pan before frying or not. The bagel itself was pretty good though. I think this place could tighten up a bit and be better. Well... I found out that their bagels are pretty soft and warm NOW!! Like 10x then before... But I'm not too impress with their egg-bagel breakfast. They warm-it up properly the stuff. No doubt. But I don't know... The eggs was warm in up well... But... In a plastic container I believe... Anyway... The eggs was GOOD and FRESH... So I will come back for trying their veggies meat balls.
