My wife and I visit SomiSomi almost every week these days - mostly for the taiyaki and once in awhile for the soft-serve ice-cream when she sees a flavor she likes. This SomiSomi location in Frisco is much smaller than the Carrollton one; there is no place to sit, but the tall tables provide an option for customers to eat on the spot. As for service, the SomiSomi staff are always friendly and super helpful, and patient in explaining when there is a new flavor too. Since we both prefer something that is less sweet, my wife would always request her taiyaki to have less fillings. There is one particular young lady in the weekday afternoon shift who always makes perfect-shaped taiyaki. It can be hit and miss depending on who makes them thou.; the attached picture is a not so good looking batch (they all taste good, but if you are ever giving them as gifts, let the cashier know ahead of time). I am in love with this place! So glad they opened here! The soft serve here is nothing like your typical chocolate and vanilla, and no waffle cones here. This location has 6 flavors, you can get an individual flavor, or try one of their weekly swirls! The flavors are black sesame, ube, milk, milk tea, matcha, & Oreo. My favorite flavors are ube, black sesame, & milk! Ube is a must try, and swirled with black sesame is the best! Also the milk and black sesame swirl is killer! I love that the swirls update weekly, so you can always try something new! The taiyaki is the game changer here! There are 3 ways you can order your soft serve. In a cup, in a cup with a taiyaki fish on top (ah-boong upside down), or in the taiyaki fish served like a cone (ah-boong right side up). Taiyaki taste similar to a pancake, and it is poured in a fish shaped mold, with an opening at the mouth for filling and soft serve. Getting the soft serve without taiyaki, is just empty, cause they compliment each other so well. The taiyaki gets lined with a filling before the soft serve goes in, my favorite is taro, 2nd best is custard. I found the Nutella to be over powering and didn't go with the other flavors very well. Ordering is super simple, you pick your cup or cone style, pick a filling for your taiyaki, then pick your soft serve flavor. Once you get served, so can pick toppings like macrons, strawberries or sprinkles. The shop is pretty small, and when they get busy and can be hard to tell where the line starts, ends, and who is just waiting for their soft serve. But it is kept really nice and minimalist, and very clean. It's close by other shops, so you can walk around once you get your soft serve, or find a table outside. I was pleasantly surprised how the mango was not overpowering with its flavor. Everything was delicately sweet. Pretty solid, you order on a screen which is different compared to the last time I went to the carrollton location. Got the custard filled taiyaki in a 2 pack and it came out steaming hot and very yummy. I love their tayaki's. I apologize for not taking pictures of them so you know what they are but they're just puff pasteries that come in a shape of a fish filled with a wide variety of fillings. I only like mine stuffed with the red beans fillings so yeah. That's the Korean version of boonguhbbangs right there. We were visiting the Dallas area and stopped here on the way to our Airbnb in Little Elm. We were looking for ice cream options in the area and this did not disappoint! The ice cream was so smooth and creamy, and the flavors were terrific. I had read other reviews about the ice cream flavors being too subtle but the matcha and cookie butter stood out strong in mine.
